My friend and I were looking for a cool place to eat after a long Saturday of yard sale hopping. The restaurant was easy to get to, except parking wasn't fun. Once we got inside we were sat pretty quickly. The restaurant is really nice inside, we felt under dressed but definitely were not treated as such. Our waitress give us a great recommendation for an appetizer that would help cool us off, bruschetta, so refreshing I had the Avocado BLT off the brunch menu and my friend had the Monte Cristo (brunch is until 3p). The bruschetta was really popular in the reviews, which made me want to try it. Older menus mentioned it was on focaccia, but the new one said it was on crostinis. It was pretty tasty as I liked the texture of the shredded mozzarella cheese with the chopped tomatoes, green onion, parsley, basil, and garlic with olive oil and balsamic drizzle. I was craving a fish taco, so I chose the Shrimp Tejas Taco (sub with blackened cod). The cod was flaky. The texture of fried versus panfried cod is always puzzling to me, so it seemed a little too stiff and not plump for me. It comes with (2) flour or corn tortillas filled with shredded cabbage, cilantro ranch, and queso fresco, which all tasted wonderful. The dish comes with one side and lime slices. The peppered green beans looked really good and turned out really well. I tried a few bites of the grits and thought it had a thicker polenta-like texture, which I was a fan of. Wednesday before Thanksgiving, we ate an early dinner here. My out of town guests and I were expecting a nice meal as we've always had here. My Tortilla soup was a dark brown color and a bit "off" ~ the shrimp risotto was completely cold as was the blackened salmon. My soup was served with a HALF piece if Texas toast. When I asked server if I could have another, he quickly tapped his order tablet and then charged $2 for the small half. He didn't bring my guest his wine, but a waitress who we hailed did. I actually dine here pretty often. The food is great and the staff delivers great friendly service especially Kathy and Andi. I most recently had the fried shrimp with coleslaw and onion rings. Cooked perfectly and portions generous. Their salads are all fresh and I especially enjoy their wedge salad. I get the dressing on the side because they tend to use too much for my taste. I ate from here twice on my 9 day trip, it is very convenient to my family's houses. The first was after I flew into Houston so was just a quick pickup order- a plain cheeseburger and side of mashed potatoes. The burger was juicy and the bun was yummy. Mashed potatoes thumbs up as well but the price of 12.99$ makes that the best part. Second time I came with my sister and brother in law and sat at the bar. It was a fairly empty restaurant on a Wednesday night so they changed the channel to baseball game we asked about, thanks! I believe our bartender may have been Andrew per the nice hostess. He made a yummy raspberry lemon drop I really liked (I'm pretty sensitive to the taste of liquor) he made my sister a passion fruit one not on the menu but recommend asking for it! I ordered the shrimp pasta which came in a white wine sauce with sautéed spinach topped w/Parmesan cheese, capers side of garlic bread. I got no capers just cause I don't think they add anything! This dish was really really good. I enjoyed it very much and had enough for leftover lunch the next day. It was only like 19$ The food wasn't anything super out of this world, it was very good, a good drink (extremely hard for me to find) and the atmosphere seemed pretty cool (Friday night was busy and Wednesday was nicely quiet). Had my first visit to Citizens Grill last night for my birthday and we had a solid visit. Service was fast and friendly, and the restaurant's ambiance had me feeling elevated American pub vibes. We didn't order anything super -- fish and chips, cup of tomato basil soup + 1/2 grilled cheese, & tenderloin beef tips -- but each person enjoyed their menu selection. My middle daughter really enjoyed the tomato basil soup & shared some with me, but I'd pass on it if presented with my own chance to order. The tenderloin beef tips entree was very tasty and the mashed potatoes covered in jalapeño cream gravy with grilled green beans were solid sides. I asked for my steak to be cooked medium and it came out medium well, though, so that was a small miss. Also, I tasted zero jalapeño in the jalapeño cream gravy. Probably the most negative thing about Citizens Grill is access into and out of the restaurant. It shares a parking lot with a large apartment complex & sits next to a busy highway, so we had to sit through 3 red lights to turn in & then wait a long time to exit the parking lot in the direction we needed to go due to road congestion. Would I return? Yep! Is it going to become a destination for dining out for my family? Probably not. read more

The even nicer part is that even in this economy, it's cost friendly and only about $15 per person for dinner. Came here with some friends to try it out as they recommended it. We were greeted and seated rather quickly and provided the menus. Our friends did say that the menu has gotten smaller since the last time you were there so it is more refined and limited to American Style meals including such things as burgers and comfort foods. They were quick to bring us our drinks, brought us our menus and we're able to take our order. My guest and I ordered the all-American hamburger and the chopped salad. Tje All American burger is a really savory burger, made with a couple different meats and topped with fresh veggies, bacon and served with fries. The chopped salad was excellent and was a good-sized portion that came with a lot of chopped chicken breast, which is great since you're not just being stuffed up with vegetables. The dressing was really good and not too strong or salty and it really complemented the salad. The tables were kept clean and maintained. The staff was good, however I will say our waitress was a little bit lofty and not really paying attention on maintaining our drinks. But, I was able to find other staff to refill drinks and answer questions. Overall, I give the Citizens Grill two big thumbs up for great food and good service! First off, the coconut shrimp is amazing and a must have when visiting! Everytime I come here, I'll get some coconut shrimp. It's perfectly crispy on the outside, cooked perfect inside, right amount of coconut breading, and the mango jalapeño sauce was sweet which provided the perfect pairing. I asked for a side of cocktail sauce in case I wouldn't like the mango sauce because I'm not a fan of mango but ended up loving the sauce. Their cocktail sauce is really good to though. I had the fettucini citizens which was big, creamy, and delicious. My boyfriend had the ribeye with Mac n cheese and baked potato. He loved his dish too! I looked and agreed - there were many items on the menu that looked appealing. We arrived, and she was heavily debating between the Lobster Pasta and the Chicken Fried Steak. Being the generous and wonderful husband that I am 24/7, I volunteered to order the lobster pasta, so that she could enjoy both. And the thing about selfless people is, they never have to tell you about their selfless acts. Like the time I ordered lobster pasta, even though it probably wasn't even top 7 on my list of choices. It turned out, the lobster pasta was probably the best thing we ordered (see, good things come to those who give). But the calamari and the chicken fried steak were just okay. We will probably come back again because it's close to our house, and we'd still like to try some other items on the menu, but we weren't overly impressed with visit #1. read more

I have been here multiple times. Wonderful staff, dog friendly, food is always on point and priced fairly. Outdoor patio seating for you and your fur babies. Indoor family dining on one side, and the bar side is adults only and always quieter (I love this option for date night). I recommend the Calamari for appetizer because they don't overcook it, just get the lemon butter on the side (ask for the Chipotle Aioli to dip as well). But the food here is very average and honestly not any better than what you can make yourself. The bruschetta is tasty, but very simple. It's bread toasted with tomatoes, cheese, greens, and balsamic glaze. Could easily make at home, but nonetheless I ate it all. The side of jalapeño bacon mac and cheese needs some improvement. It's basically the same taste and texture as the Kraft mac and cheese, but with some bacon bits thrown in. The sauce is too liquidy and overall not very seasoned. The shrimp and grits, oddly, tastes like an Asian dish with the ginger and other flavors. Overall it doesn't taste bad, but not what I would expect from a traditionally southern dish. Lobster pasta is cheesy and hot, but lobster flavor is very weak and the whole dish needs to be seasoned more. Overall, the food here is not a good enough reason to come. It's more about the vibes and the patio space, which is nice for group gatherings. Plenty of parking available in this plaza. read more

I've been here a few times and would say they're consistently good. I started with a lavender lemonade martini which was a unique and well blended adult beverage. We had Mac and cheese balls and the calamari for appetizers. Both were good. I had the BBQ jumbo wings for my meal. They were indeed jumbo and I liked that they were a dry rub with a little sauce. We had my nieces birthday here and when we started singing happy birthday the entire restaurant chimed in which great! Citizens Grill is the place you go to when you got fussy eaters in your party; there's a little something for everyone! Especially if they have pets. Went here with family, some of whom have culinary opinions :-) I noticed that everyone found a few things with which they were comfortable and with which they were thrilled! The steak brochets, medium rare, were tasty bits of really good steak, not some lesser pieces of meat whacked onto a skewer. The sides are varied, from grilled asparagus to jalapeno mac and cheese to mushroom risotto. It was a mix and match feast! There's a pastry chef who comes in daily and does sweet wonders. That's why the dessert menu is a separate document, updated daily. Even those span a wide breath and satisfied even those of us who do not have a sweet tooth .
