This is definitely a store for the people! The owners and employees were so friendly to all the residents that came in to shop. I'm not a resident of this particular area but they were friendly to me all the same. We were able to get the really hard to find 2 gallon buckets we were looking for and the concrete to finish R DIY project of baking Umbrella weights for arbeech umbrellas. The store is pretty large and has all different types of materials for your home improvement needs. This is a great place to go if you need to do any projects that you may go to one of the big names stores for. You can get personalized service and pretty good prices as well. read more

Rude and abusive staff especially to women!!! Avoid this place its a disaster they are very nasty and unhelpful. Went in and asked a simple question and they very pushy man would not answer just shouted at me and was even more abusive and threatening to the woman before me. This is an excellent neighborhood hardware store, stocking a variety of items, especially the hard to find USG Diamond Plaster, which I use for frequently plastering jobs. I also order a variety of Benjamin Moore paints here, too, and call Shiplu, an assistant store manager, who can setup payment via phone for convenient pickup later in the day or week. An outstanding quality of Citi General is that they are friendly, always willing to help, and especially, they have a home delivery service that will deliver any order regardless of size directly to the customer. Honestly, most hardware stores eschew this type of service unless the customer orders a significant quantity of materials, charge an exorbitant price, or flat out refuse to deliver, not Citi General: any order can be delivered to a residential or commercial address no matter what the size. In my humble opinion, the home delivery service makes it easy for customers to purcmake purchases without having to drive or commute to the Franklin Avenue store. Delivery can be either same day (within a specific time window) or any day mutually agreeable to Citi General and the customer. A home delivery service is a tremendous asset to shopping at Citi General because it makes ordering Sheetrock and other heavy miscellaneous building supplies stress free in an already stress laden city. Currently, Home Depot and Lowes do not have a home delivery service for heavy material orders, which compels the customer to commute to the store location and acquire what she needs. Another distinct advantage of City general is that the home service eliminates the need of a client carrying Sheetrock panels on top of one's car, which is a laborious task for DIY'ers, who do not own a utility truck. The store is clean, well managed, and is well stocked with almost everything a DIYer homeowner or contractor would need. Although I have not yet confirmed this, if one needs a particular item that is currently not stocked, one can call Citi, have it ordered, then pickup later. Yes, the store is busy, especially on Mondays, but this is not unusual for a Brooklyn hardware Store. Store hours (store opens at 7am EST M-F) are convenient for early risers, so one can shop early, then commute to work in little time. As a busy, life long New Yorker, I do not have hours to commute to a hardware store, find parking, buy what I want, then leave. Citi General has a good gig going on, and I hope they remain in business indefinitely. Fully stocked store, probably had lots of great stuff.. however extremely rude to women and I am a Black woman at that..don't need to show my educational degrees to patronize a store.. but they were very disrespectful. I needed a can of Mapp gas and was immediately told they didn't have it. Another worker who was Black said we do have it. Showed me exactly where it was then gave it to me. I needed a striker and the first worker didn't know what the heck I was talking about.. again said they didn't have it...the same Black male worker gave the item I needed to me. I stand on line and no masks were being enforced..multiple dudes walking around..no social distancing.. finally I get waited on and got charged 40 cents for a paper bag. I purchased but let it be known I knew it was unacceptable.. got other important things to do with my time.. I have been here twice, its in my neighborhood .. easy to walk but I will not purchase here again.. don't like to call the Race card but when it looks and quacks like a duck.. it's probably a duck! After several visits here, these guys are perfectly average. Your average corner store with random items you find yourself needing for you apartment. Friendly enough staff, though there's not a ton of expertise or a ton of product choice. I don't know, they let me bring my dog in while I look for paint brushes, so that's cool I guess. read more

The first time I came to this store was when I moved into an apartment in the area. We needed an extra set of keys and this little shop was just a few easy blocks away. It was quiet, friendly and efficient. I think i was in an out in under 5 minutes with a shiny new key set in my pocket. Since then I have used this little shop for many home needs. I know that there is a home depot a few blocks away but there is something about a little store with a few aisles in the neighborhood. Go grab a cup of coffee from Bedford Hill Coffee bar and you're set to tackle any home improvement. read more

Horrible. They gave us one price one day on paint. We told them we were coming back the next day for more after we looked at the colors at home. We asked if we would get the same deal as the day before when we came back the next day, before they mixed the paint. They said yes, and then they tried to charge us and extra five dollars a gallon. We walked out. They could have sold us ten more gallons for our protect over the next week. I don't get it. read more
