Selection: On paper it looks like there's plenty, but in practice it felt mismatched and suspicious. Things didn't line up with what you'd expect for a business of this size. Value: Honestly questionable. For a storefront that supposedly pulls in big revenue, the customer traffic and overall quality don't add up. It makes you wonder what's really going on behind the scenes. Other notes: The building setup itself feels off -- housing units crammed right above the storefront, which doesn't exactly inspire confidence in safety or standards. I came when they were busy and understaffed. So they didn't take the time to help me get what I needed. Then I had to travel all around town finding the right paint, and I have to beg my contractor to fix the horrible paint choice I made (it's truly, awfully bad). The worst place I have shopped. I wished other store carry the product that I was buying and I never have come here again. They called me pick my paint and I came to pick up before 5 and they are close. When I spoke to them they say said the store close and come tomorrow to complain to the owner!!!!! Going to Home Depot on Lexington Avenue was a mistake. I had to knock items off of shelves to get a human to appear and beg for help. Spent too much money on stuff I didn't love. Never again. No need. I must have walked by this small mom and pop neighborhood store a million times. It has been servicing Kensington for over 4 decades. The moment you step into the store, you are offered help. If you don't accept it, and they find you scratching your head, they approach you, again. Can we help you find anything? Yes, please. I will never go to another store to purchase paint. They have EVERYTHING (Items Home Depot did not have) and the entire store is smaller than my apartment. Neat and clean and organized and nicely stocked. If you want it and they don't have it, they will order it for you. Metallics, glazes, faux finishes, leather look treatments, tints, glitters, shellacs, wood stains, vanishes, spray paints, samples of them all and they answer the hard questions. "This variety has less toxic fumes for painting indoors". "A gallon saves you money because you will need three coats and 2 quarts cost more than a gallon". "You can apply the pearl glaze over it and it won't change the base color". "Nah, no need to prime". "Use this 99 cent plastic lip to pour paint and avoid mucking up the rim so your lids won't stick". They matched the glaze I needed from a sipping straw. "I want THIS purple", I said, handing him the straw. "No problem". They took the straw and gave me perfect mystic violet. Tears. While the paint mixed, we chatted about the best curry in the neighborhood and where we were from. I wanted to cook them all dinner. As I left, "Take care, Jennifer". But how do you know my name? I never told you? Oh, that's right. You read it off my credit card and remembered it, because that is how these gentleman do business. And that is why they are still here after 45 years. The color appear differently on my wall then I thought it would, and when I brought it back to paints by George they were so extremely helpful! They went above and beyond to help me. So, I was hesitant to go - even though I was there 2-3 years ago and had had a good experience. I'd forgotten this was the place I'd been, and when I saw the reviews that say they were disrespectful to women, I'll admit I didn't want to deal. But my painter (a professional and a woman) recommended them (now for the second time), I decided to go. I'll admit - I steeled myself on the way there for any misogynistic nonsense. There was no need. Chris and the 3-5 other men working there were LOVELY. They were solicitous, polite, and otherwise completely respectful. I didn't have to fight for their attention, even with other people in the store. They talked me through the different brands and types of paint, making suggestions, but not pressuring me. Everything they said checked out with my painter. Nobody cut me in line, nobody spoke to me in a condescending way, or anything like that. I picked paint cards for the colors I was deciding between, took them home, and went back later to buy pint-samples. Same during the 2nd visit -- I met some of the other employees, who were also nice and kind. I took the samples home and used them on the walls and then went back for a 3rd time today to buy the ones I'd chosen for the project. Once again, they were great (met an additional one or two employees). I should add that I'm in my late 40s and while I clean up pretty well, I'm nothing to write home about. I say that not to self-denigrate but rather to head-off any ideas about my looks or appearance being a reason they might have treated me so nicely. I'm certainly not negating any experiences that women have posted about. I'm just saying that my visits were issue-free and respectful, and that I had a good experience. I will say that I let the men know in no uncertain terms (individually and then together) at the END of my time with them about the issues people have posted about relating to disrespect toward women. They seemed to take it very seriously. At the very least, they are forewarned that women are talking about this issue with respect to their store and they're now fully aware. At the risk of suggesting that anyone put themselves in an uncomfortable position, I'd give them a try. And I'd NAME that you read this review along with the negative ones before it and then give them feedback about how they did. read more

Benjamin More is professional quality paints. They last decades if applied to manufacture recommendations. Home Depot, Lowe's or corner hardware store out of comparison. You are paying what you getting. I'm 58 and paint house myself. It last 12 -15 years. I preferred professional tool. and maintain it. Chip choppers are looking for 0.99 cents brushes and rollers. After coming here for years, I'm left with a bad taste in my mouth. I bought 3 cans of paint here and one was the incorrect color. I didn't notice until I poured it out. They refused to accept the paint back and charged me full price for a new can. This was your mistake and a little consideration should have been taken to make a long time customer happy.
