I will never come to this hardware store ever again. While being locked in the house during the…read morepandemic I decided to do some home improvements. One of those improvements was changing the color of my living room wall so I came here to get paint, brushes etc. While I was waiting a woman came in asking how much the face masks were. Granted these were not surgical grade masks she was asking about. They were regular thin, flimsy masks that you would wear when you paint. There was a handwritten sign clearly pre Covid19 that said "Masks 1.99 each." Despite the sign the woman behind the counter told the lady $18 each, despicable. To price gouge on what is now a basic necessity should be criminal. Sadly the lady obliged and paid $36 for two piece of crap masks. I don't respect that and I will never support this "neighborhood business." This place is NOT for the people of it's neighborhood. Price gouging 9x the price shame on you Ovington Hardware!!! FYI: I really never liked coming here to begin with because they will follow you around the store. I am not sure if it is because I am a minority but be prepared for that as well if you choose to come here. Never again!

I really do want to shop locally. This one is close to home…read more One guy was on the phone, the other one was with a customer and while I was waiting for him to finish up, they awkwardly blocked me into a corner of the store, while looking at those chains you use to pull lights on and off. I patiently waited and was unable to move to go anywhere else in the store. For one second, I was able to pick something up from the shelf but they came back, so I moved back into the corner - again, waiting to ask my question. When they were done, the guy walked away from me, went and asked someone else in front of the store, who came in after me, what he needed. I don't know why he thought I was standing there. These are the incidents that make me feel invisible. The whole incident was awkward and weird. I can order what I need on Amazon or go to another hardware store in the neighborhood and I can get the answer that I need using google.

My visit on 1/30/24 was unsuccessful and unpleasant. This is a local shop that I hoped would carry…read morepaint (gold color) that I needed for a small project. The owner?/man led me to the back of the store and plucked a small can of gold paint from the shelf and returned to the front. I remained in the back to browse for another color before returning to the front with a can of red paint. The man then presented me with a screwdriver coated in the gold paint, but the color seemed diluted: gold flecks suspended in a clear liquid, like it had been mixed with thinner or solvent. I asked if he could open the red can also, so I could see whether the 2 went well together. He said he would be glad to, once I paid for it. I declined the purchase of both cans, not understanding why he had opened the gold can (and even dipped a screwdriver into it, unasked) but refused to pry open the lid of the red one. Perhaps, I surmise, this can was also old and "expired"? Then he said he could tell I was like all other Chinese people who entered his shop, peppered him with questions, wasting his time and never making a purchase. I promptly removed myself, not wanting to take up another second of his time.

Hate to be a dealbreaker about this place's perfect track record, but it is what it is…read more So, first the pro's: - great choice, no doubt about it - cozy and old school place, perfect for all your hardware needs. Now, the cons, unfortunately: - I came in to buy a lamp for my fridge and a bottle of glue - total was 6 dollars ($3 each) and I wanted to pay with my debit card, the shop assistant then proceeded to tell me its going to be $4 extra because I'm paying with card. I asked "beg your pardon?", and he immediately responded "ok, 2 dollars". I was a little distraught (on the phone), so I just said ok, and ended up paying $8.50 for $6 worth of items because of the card. Don't get me wrong, the dude was the nicest, thus 4 stars. But seriously, figure out your financial policies. Even an ATM of another bank takes $1.75 for cashing out. Doesn't sound reasonable, really.
