I will never come to this hardware store ever again. While being locked in the house during the pandemic I decided to do some home improvements. One of those improvements was changing the color of my living room wall so I came here to get paint, brushes etc. While I was waiting a woman came in asking how much the face masks were. Granted these were not surgical grade masks she was asking about. They were regular thin, flimsy masks that you would wear when you paint. There was a handwritten sign clearly pre Covid19 that said "Masks 1.99 each." Despite the sign the woman behind the counter told the lady $18 each, despicable. To price gouge on what is now a basic necessity should be criminal. Sadly the lady obliged and paid $36 for two piece of crap masks. I don't respect that and I will never support this "neighborhood business." This place is NOT for the people of it's neighborhood. Price gouging 9x the price shame on you Ovington Hardware!!! FYI: I really never liked coming here to begin with because they will follow you around the store. I am not sure if it is because I am a minority but be prepared for that as well if you choose to come here. Never again! read more

I really do want to shop locally. This one is close to home. One guy was on the phone, the other one was with a customer and while I was waiting for him to finish up, they awkwardly blocked me into a corner of the store, while looking at those chains you use to pull lights on and off. I patiently waited and was unable to move to go anywhere else in the store. For one second, I was able to pick something up from the shelf but they came back, so I moved back into the corner - again, waiting to ask my question. When they were done, the guy walked away from me, went and asked someone else in front of the store, who came in after me, what he needed. I don't know why he thought I was standing there. These are the incidents that make me feel invisible. The whole incident was awkward and weird. I can order what I need on Amazon or go to another hardware store in the neighborhood and I can get the answer that I need using google. read more

I had a leak from top floor that was dripping thru first floor bathroom. Thought it was the tubs trap and overflow. Glad it wasnt that after opening ceiling cause thats a big job. So I needed some tools to replaster the ceiling. So I came in here and they had what I needed. Also they carry Benjamin Moore paints which I like. Its sort of the cadillac of paints. You get what you pay for, like my grand daddy used to say....Buy cheap you get cheap as he smoked his pipe. The prices are a bit higher here but when in a bind costs are not a problem. But I did get other supplies for the repair of plaster ceiling elsewhere cause their stock is limited. They also had these fine mesh screen strainers, I like those when making miso soup at home to strain the shaved bonito for my dashi. Kinda a little bit of everything in here! Service was kind and not patronizing. I really hate places that are overly patronizing glad this place was not like that. read more

I'm renovating my apartment near by and its really nice to have a hardware store around the corner. Although its not my go-to place, they're good for small items, things I forgot to pick up or last minute changes. The guys have been helpful with me picking out the right stuff and were really helpful when doing an exchange when I bought the wrong thing. read more

The people in here are always very nice and helpful. It's one of two neighborhood hardware stores that I go to and I always find what I need. Plus, they sell Benjamin Moore paint, which has been a great thing to have so close while I continually decorate my apartment! read more

The two men that work or possibly own this store are extremely rude and their customer service sucks! They also can not make keys that are functional. Never go here......you will be sorry! read more

Went in here for a quick last-minute need, and they were so nice and so helpful! We moved to Bay Ridge about 6 months ago and have not had great luck with the hardware stores in the neighborhood (my husband is in contracting, so he spends a lot of time at hardware stores), so I wasn't expecting that much. But it was just a really pleasant experience! The woman at the front was so nice and went above and beyond to be helpful. Definitely recommend this place based on customer service! Can't speak to their variety of products, but they had the two things I needed! read more

I'm a neighborhood guy and like to spend my money in the neighborhood but I won't be shopping there again. Went to buy epoxy glue. When I questioned the sales woman if she knew enough about the product too help me. I was immediately jumped on, by who I can only imagine is either an owner or mgr, and summarily given an impromptu lesson on epoxy. Mind you this person never let me explain that I just wanted to be a good consumer and buy the CORRECT glue for my needs, until he was finished being what I would call at the very least VERY DISRESPECTFUL, at which point he gave me the correct product for my needs, which by the way was totally different from what the sales woman gave me originally. So if you want to be treated like your Stupid or S*&T , as a customer, by all means go there if not find another Hardware store, actually the one on 73st & 5th Ave is MUCH better. read more

I went here to make copies of 2 Medeco keys. The lady was extremely nice when assisting me, she took my $10 plus tax and had the male employee make my keys. The copied keys looked thinly cut. Sure enough the first key broke within a week of using it. I didn't bother going back to ask about it. When the second key broke within the month I went to tell them the situation. The lady who was nice at first completely changed her demeanor and told me that her keys could not have broke. The male employee confirmed with her that those keys were not theirs but my original keys. I even showed them my original key along with their broken one side by side and they had the nerve to deny it when clearly my original key was the older and sturdier one with the more visible Medeco logo. Wow seriously? Why would I waste my time to do such a thing and demand a refund while producing my original key for comparison? I couldn't believe the sudden personality change when there was a problem with a service I received from them. They were straight out rude. No refund or apologies and basically called me a liar.
