We were in Florence for 5 days and we ate here twice. Very friendly, great service, and some of the best gluten free pizza. Crust has great texture and mouthfeel, just the right amount of chew. Our favorite place. Not sure why it's listed as having high prices. A personal pizza ranges from 8 -12 euros so depending what you order you won't need a whole paycheck. Our group went to Ciro and Sons so I could eat Gluten free pasta. It was very tasty although the pasta was molto al dente. Loved this restaurant! It was right up there as one of my favorite meals in Florence. Had a late lunch and family had a multitude of dishes. All fresh and flavorful! I had a steak with arugula, citrus, etc. I can't remember the name, but it was by far my favorite steak dish of the trip. This restaurant was everything that I love about Italy and the food - fresh, clear flavors...just true to the food. Nothing crazy, just delicious. Honestly, I do not understand the great ratings here. This was the worst meal we've had in Italy so far (one month in). The gnocchi was soggy and buried in cheese. The seafood pasta was inedible. The best thing we ate was the salad. The restaurant was packed - mostly with people taking photos and talking on the phone. The tables are so close together that we saw two different waiters knock over glasses of wine while trying to serve the diners. After 3 days in Rome, my husband and I stumbled upon Ciro & Sons on our way to our hotel. The menu and the items we could see on people's tables looked good, so we decided to drop our bags off at the hotel and go back for lunch. We ordered the 4 Formaggi pizza and the penne all'arrabbiata. I don't know if we just picked duds in Rome or if this was really THAT much better, but WOW...we both immediately realized what we had been missing out on. After experiencing a wonderful lunch and great service, we decided that we didn't want to risk picking another blah place, and so we ending up eating at Ciro & Sons THREE more times in just our few days in Florence (during which we also saw several other people who were eating there multiple times). Other entrees we had included the caprese salad, lasagna, diavola pizza, and chicken fettuccine alfredo (our personal favorite)! During our third visit, Ciro himself was there for his grandson's 18th birthday. We introduced ourselves to Ciro and told him how much we enjoyed his restaurant and the wonderful people working there. Several minutes later after a hugeee two layer tiramisu birthday cake was brought out for his grandson, Ciro ended up bringing us a big slice of the cake! What a perfect representation of how wonderful this restaurant is. Overall, we could not have been more pleased with our experiences at Ciro & Sons! It was definitely one of our highlights in Florence (honesty, the trip as a whole). If we ever make it back to Florence, we will eat there without a doubt! read more

This was not the best meal we ate in Florence. We had the spaghetti alla carbonara and the gnocchi alla sorrentina. They were ok. The sauce for the gnocchi was tasty, but the carbonara was really mediocre. I understand that pasta carbonara isn't a specialty in Florence, but if you're going to put it on your menu, it better be decent! The pasta tasted like it was from a box. This place was recommended to my brother. We came here at around 1900. There was no line and we immediately sat outside. It was a rainy day in Florence and thankfully there was a glass ceiling to protect us from the rain. We ordered the antipasto Toscano with had a conbo of meat, cheeses, and bruchetta with mushrooms. It was a good appetizer to start with; very flavorful. I ordered the lasagna alla bolgnese & he ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with truffle. Both dishes were very good and very flavorful. you can taste the truffle and you can even smell the truffle which is amazing. We had to order dessert. we had the tiramisu and creme brûlée. Both very delicious. I'm very picky and scared to try tiramisu but this place made me happy to try it. It wasn't too strong but just the right amount of flavor to make me fall in love with the dessert again. Definitely would come back if I ever come back to Florence and id definitely recommend it. The staff is amazing and it was crowded half way thru our course. There was a line of people waiting so it's worth it to come early. read more

I'm also pretty sure they forgot about our food because they came by after a long time and double checked what we ordered as other tables were getting their food. My wife and I stopped here while in Florence because so many people noted that they had great gluten free food. A lot of folks were thrilled with the pizza but we choose to go a different way so if you are looking for pizza skip my review. We started with a insalata caprese which was very good. Not the best one we had in Italy but far better then others. I ordered the Tagliatelle al pesto fresco fatto in casa which was not very good. I thought the pesto sauce was really oily and kind of bland. My wife got the gluten free gnocchi. She really enjoyed it and I tasted it as well and agreed. It was tasty and very close to non-gluten free. The place is beautiful and is in a very good location however we less than thrilled with service. It was a little slow and disjointed. Overall if you are gluten free this place is worth a stop in Florence. read more

My wife and I just had an early dinner at Ciro and Sons. Our first impressions were excellent. We chose to sit inside to get away from the crowd and noise that is Florence. Nice ambiance, great waiter, excellent menu, so far so good. We order . . . fantastic wine (Modus 2013 - 35 Euro), good food, all is looking like a nice relaxing evening . . . . then a German Tour of teenagers comes in and invades the dining room. We went from 4+ star evening to "Il Conto Per Favore" within a few minutes. Looking around at the other folks still early on in their meals, they were to a one disappointed with the change in events. We asked does this happen often and the busboy nodded squeamishly. Overall this could have been a 4+ star rating, but they appear to value tours more than street customers. Out of the 15 or so meals we've had in Florence, this is by far our worst experience. Finally, make sure to check your bill as they charge a 15% service charge, not the standard 2-3 Euro PP. read more

We ate here twice while in Florence and had pizza both times, so can't speak to the quality or 'authenticity' of their pasta, etc. dishes but I've certainly never had gluten free pizza like this at home in the States. If you're dining with someone who is not GF, expect that your dishes might come out a couple minutes apart. They warn you about this when you order, so not a problem, especially if it means they keep GF and non-GF prep areas separate. Definitely a must for any celiac in Florence! read more

We stumbled across this restaurant on a rainy evening while looking for a place with vegan options. We spoke with a waiter who was very friendly and helped us pick out dishes. Everything we ate was delicious: bruschetta, Greek salad, minestrone soup, penne all'arrabbiata, and a pesto pasta. The servers were all helpful, the wine was perfect and it was nice to eat outside under the tarps while it was pouring rain. It's a family run business and we were served by two of the brothers. Recommended by a tour guide, we came here around 6 pm on a weekday and the restaurant was almost empty. The waiter was very friendly and recommended the Portfina pizza and the calamari pasta. Both were delicious, especially the pizza. The bf wanted another pasta since everything was so good and got the penne. Turns out the penne wasnt as special as the other dishes we ordered and the person next to us who ordered the same thing had a larger plate. Other tables around us also got bread in the beginning. INCREDIBLE food!! The service was also outstanding. My wife is gluten free and has barely been able to eat while in Italy due to her severe allergy (and most places we go).
