The next visit was the cleaning. Both the assistant taking my x-rays and the hygienist doing the cleaning were very nice. The hygienist went out of his way to make me feel at ease. I have one sensitive tooth and he was very careful to wait until the end to clean that tooth. What I like the most is that the dentist don't try to push additional services on you or make you feel like you have to do everything suggested. They were also very up front with cost, so no surprises. Highly recommen!

I went to them at least 6 times, getting extensive work done, and I was never informed that they do not take HMO plans from my insurance. I had to contact THEM for them to tell me this, after I saw a letter from my insurance that I owed over 3k for work I had already paid the "copay" for. I had received payment reminders through text messages from an unfamiliar number multiple times, but with no business attached to it (I googled the number to be sure), I had thought it was some kind of scam. It wasn't until I received the same message from Swish through my email on Jan 20th that I realized what it was. I had been seeing them for about a year by this point. Part Two: I worked out a payment plan with Swish and was told that I could text them monthly with the script "This is [my name]. I'd like to make a payment of [$$$] on my account, with the card on file ending in [####]." So I've been doing this every month around the 4th since January. It is now May. Since I was getting help from my parents to pay this bill, I did not have access to the account information to confirm the charges went through. At the beginning of this month (May 7th), I texted them asking for an updated bill, and got no response. So I went onto their website and saw that the phone # to text has changed. So I texted the new # with the same request about an updated bill. No response. I also emailed them. Still no response. Then today, I got a letter in the mail from a debt collector where it looks as though the only charge that went through was the first one (which I did over during the same phone call where I was told I could text their number with the script above). I was receiving payment reminders from Swish through my emails as recently as March, with the debt going down with each payment. But if my debt with them was already sold, then what was I paying them for?

Melody walked me through my care options and was able to give me referrals as well. They made this dental experience so smooth. It's been a long time since I've…read morebeen absolutely scammed, but it seems this so-called dental clinic has perfected their complete scamming of patients. After reading other reviews, unfortunately post visit, my experience was almost identical. Having returned to Austin after a 16-year absence, I was looking for a new dentist. Both of my previous dentists had retired. Trails Dental was convenient, and since I only needed preventive maintenance and cleaning, I thought why not. DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE. I had given my insurance # to them in advance of the appointment and again at checkin. They had ample time to confirm coverage. ALSO, a sign at the entrance to the office promoted a $79 x-rays and cleaning offer. Wonder how many people have been scammed by that false advertising. After having a panoramic x-ray, followed by bitewings, then the hygienist (I presume, as 4 different women floated in and out during my time in the chair) proceeded to perform a 2D photographic image by placing a small hand-held wand like instrument in my mouth. Next came torture. A second person entered and began to aggressively poke my gums with a sharp instrument until I could taste nothing but blood. Rarely do my gums bleed. Not only was I gagging from the metallic taste, but no one ever offered water for me to wash out the blood. Then entered the dentist, Dr. Jessica Cicone, to explain everything. Not only did she tell me that I needed 3 crowns but that I also needed a deep cleaning. Keeping in mind that when I left my wonderful dentist in New Orleans, my teeth and gums were fine with her only keeping a watch on an old filling in one tooth, which ironically wasn't among the teeth that Trails wanted to crown. Cicone departed and in walked the 4th different person, this one to explain the costs. According to her, after insurance, my portion of the bill would be about $3,600. AGAIN, all I came in for was preventive maintenance and cleaning....covered 100% by my insurance. Declining to have the deep cleaning that day as I did not have a credit card with me, I asked for a routine cleaning. They REFUSED. That's like taking your car in for an oil change and the repairman finds a dozen other things. Even if you decline extra repairs, they still change the oil!! Insult on top of injury, the billing person detailed my portion of the crowns after insurance. Another big red flag, as I knew my policy didn't cover crowns. In the end, I left and immediately called my dental insurance company to confirm that they did not cover crowns. Nor does my policy cover deep cleaning or the 2D imaging--for which I've now received a bill for $408. At this point, my teeth still need cleaning, yet I have to either wait another 6-months to be covered by my insurance or pay out of pocket to see another dentist for x-rays and maintenance.

After more than 10 years with this practice, I'm incredibly disappointed to be writing this…read more I'm autistic, and like many neurodivergent people, I struggle with scheduling and making it to appointments. I want to be clear: I am already deeply aware of this, and I feel embarrassed and awful when it happens. Nothing feels worse than standing at the garage door with my keys in hand, frozen, shaking, overwhelmed, and filled with guilt. This isn't carelessness or laziness, it's something I actively work to manage. I also understand that missed appointments affect a business, and I am willing to accept financial penalties when appropriate. I appreciate that Pecan Park Dental has waived some missed appointment fees for me in the past. However, my most recent experience felt shaming and dismissive of my disability, and I left in tears. The morning of a scheduled appointment, I was called and told my insurance would not cover the visit because I had hit my maximum. I was told I would need to pay $540 out of pocket for a routine cleaning. I could not afford that and chose to reschedule for a future date when my insurance would cover it. At that time, I was told I would still be charged a $100 late cancellation fee, even though this cost was only communicated to me the morning of the appointment. When I returned months later for the rescheduled visit, I tried to explain that this situation resulted from an insurance and communication issue. Instead of working with me, I was repeatedly pressured in the waiting room to pay the $100 fee. I explained multiple times that I did not have the money that day. I was asked for credit card information over and over, in front of my daughter and other patients. It was humiliating. I ended up crying in the office while still being asked for payment. When I later tried to explain the situation, I was sent a chart of my missed appointments. It felt less like an attempt to understand and more like an effort to reinforce guilt. That approach isn't helpful, it adds to the shame and makes it even harder to access care. Experiences like this are exactly why many neurodivergent people avoid healthcare altogether. It becomes easier to avoid appointments than to face anxiety, shame, and financial penalties. I don't believe this is about bad intent, but it reflects a system that prioritizes policies and revenue over patient-centered care and basic compassion. After more than a decade as a loyal patient, and bringing multiple family members to this practice, I expected more understanding and professionalism. Because of this experience, I will be moving my care, along with my family's care, to a different provider. I hope this practice reflects on how it communicates with and supports patients, especially those with anxiety, autism, or other neurodivergent needs. No patient should be made to feel this way while seeking care

I have had some discomfort with a molar. Not pain, but pressure when I chewed. It's only been in the last week or two that I've noticed it. Turned out I had a cavity under my crown. So after my cleaning, I went home for a little bit, and went back for the extraction. The little sucker didn't want to come out, but in the end, the dentist won that battle. I was numbed I think 3 times. Usually I can be pretty chill at the dentist, but this time I was crying, and extremely jittery. The assistant got me a blanket and rubbed my arm as the needle went in with the novocain. Once the numbing and needle part was over I was feeling a little more relaxed. It did take some tugging but it came out. I did see it after it was pulled out, molars are big, I can't believe it came out all in one piece. Happy it's over with. But this will be a long process of healing, and then an implant. They are saying about 6 months.

My review is limited exclusively to Dr. Evan John, so take from that what you will. I had no idea going in who I would see, and for that reason, I felt obligated to warn others. I found Dr. Evan John to be incredibly unprofessional and lacking in bedside manner. Further, he was not thorough and incredibly awkward, which only added to my anxiety. I have since learned (from social media, no less) that he is a brand new dentist, and maybe that explains it. Even other professionals I have spoken to have acknowledged that the bedside manner was inappropriate. I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt, I cannot excuse the experience I had. Dentist experience aside, the hygienist was fabulous, one of the best I've ever had, but it couldn't salvage the mess of my visit and the unnecessarily anxious aftermath.

Also the front desk staff made some comments about my age and appearance that were unprofessional and made me very uncomfortable. My real question is where did all of the positive ratings for this office come from? I feel very let down.

The staff is hospitable and make appointments flexible. The Dentists are beyond amazing at what they do and couldn't be anymore professional at their jobs. I've avoided dental work for several years even with excruciating pain from a broken tooth. After my wonderful experience at Groovy Dental I've been back several times, I've brought my son ,daughter and my wife because of the stress free approach they offer. Groovy Dental has an outstandingly clean office. The procedure rooms are bright and airy and they always have upbeat music playing or an option to watch something on screens they have conveniently placed above the procedure chairs. The office feels very comfortable and welcoming plus smells great. They work hard to make you feel at ease no matter how nervous you are. Billing has also been a breeze in my experience here and they always give you plenty of options when it comes to getting a procedure that fits your budget yet still gives you the best quality of life. Meaning they won't leave you with unnecessary complications or do anything that will compromise quality and comfort. They don't suggest dental work that is unnecessary and execute their procedures timely and effectively. If you squirm and scream or move a lot keep in mind that's on you no one is going to strap you down and force you to cooperate. But if you relax and listen everything will go well and you'll be out sooner. Since coming to Groovy dental I've had a deep cleaning , a tooth pulled and several fillings. I've never felt as comfortable as I do here. I hope that if your thinking about coming back to the dentist after a long time transferring from another office or moving to the area from out of town you can trust that you will not be disappointed with my recommendation.
