Great food, great service and great ambiance. This is the go-to spot in Thibodaux for a nice, casual dinner with a great bar too. We'll be back.

    "grits and grillades" appetizer

we went with high hopes after rave reviews from friends & we're let down. Unsure if it was a diff chef or just because it was 2 days after christmas. Appetizer: Pork belly was very dry (like they fried it more than 2x), crab fat salad was different but delicious. Entree: Broccoli Salad was sub par ; i love this stuff but maybe the chili oil is that's threw it off. Hanger steak was cooked well, but it was served cold. Fish & oyster dressing was well enjoyed by my spouse. Dessert: sweet chili cream cheese brownies were definitely not a brownie, it was more of the consistency of the fudge you'd find at a mall fudge factory. major let down there. Overall, it was a no from us; however, we will be back to try it again, eventually...

Do yourself a favor and visit this great restaurant in Thibodaux. We were attending a football camp and spent the week in the area. We are from Nashville, and have quite the selection of restaurants and did not know what to expect. Seriously, the service and food was unmatched by anyone else in the area. Reservations were quick and easy thru Resy. The staff truly cares about your experience. They were always prompt to ask if we needed anything. The bar drinks were spot on, and the food is absolutely amazing - everything we tasted melted in our mouths. We had the Duck Confit Birria Tacos, which were a perfect appetizer. We shared the Crab Alio e Olio, because it was amazing, as well as a special cut ribeye that our server described perfectly. Our complements to the Chef, the bar manager, and to the owner, Michael Dalmau who we had the pleasure of meeting that evening. Absolutely the best meal we had while in Thibodaux. Highly recommend! Easily 5 Stars!

    Dry, flavorless meatball

Recent visit to this restaurant. After looking at reviews, thought wow must be good. I guess most reviews are from the cocktails because the food was insulting. Alligator Rangoon- cream cheese, no Alligator ( if there was some it was drowned by the amount of cream cheese) the craw fish sauce was good. Sea gulf fish.. fish was old and dirty and the rice too sweet. Too many elements fighting and none were good. Meatballs 2nd dish. Noodles -salt them give them flavor, meatball dry and over cooked - again sauce them up and maybe they would not be dry. But fix the sauce first- flavor. Not a complex dish but if you make a simple dish then make it worth the price. All around bad.

This place is an absolute gem! My boyfriend and I came out for the Black Bayou airboat tour (also great), but weren't expecting a fancier dining experience. The alligator Rangoon was better than other crab rangoons I've had; full of stuffing and not overly sweet. I really liked the brussel sprouts with halloumi cheese and the cocktail list was imaginative and delicious. Our waiter was delightful, attentive, and professional. It sounds like their menu changes regularly, so definitely worth checking out.

Words simply cannot express how much I continue to be blown away by the exquisite quality of food,…read morebeverage, service, and uncommon hospitality demonstrated and perfectly executed by this New Orleans establishment. My wife and I visited on our first NoLa trip together about 4 years ago and make it a point to go every time now. Our first time we stopped in for lunch at the bar and had an excellent experience, and decided to return. We came back on the next trip just to grab a drink and a snack before heading down for dinner in the Bywater. The bartender (Chris) gave a bunch of recommendations for places to visit that way, all of which we have done in the past few trips and have loved. But it's this past trip where we were truly blown away. We were in town for JazzFest and after walking back to the French Quarter, we were thinking about food options and decided to take a gamble to see if we could get a seat at the bar or maybe grab a drink for the road before getting food somewhere else. The bar was full when we got there around 8/8:15, but they had a no show and could serve us, as long as we ordered quickly and were ok with the check hitting the table right at 9PM. Given our slightly (perhaps generous) inebriated state from being at the festival all day and being slightly underdressed, we felt this was quite a kind accommodation. With the clear expectations of needing to get our orders in quickly, we wasted no time making a decision on our drinks and a few food options. Despite this need for a quick turn around, at no time did we feel rushed. The food and drinks were absolutely perfect, as they always are. But what impressed us most was the staff. At no point did the hostess or wait staff seem annoyed by us, despite us parachuting in from a music festival and looking like sunburn and poor decisions. By managing expectations on the front end, we never felt rushed despite the need for a quick turn around. They were all lovely, professional, and as cordial as if we were regulars with standing reservations once a week. In terms of atmosphere, it is always perfect: lively and fun for a date night, dinner with friends/family, or just a nice drink before a night out and about. I truly cannot begin to explain how much I love this restaurant and every experience I've had there. The awards and accolades this establishment (a sincere and lofty term Jewel of the South truly deserves) have been awarded are beyond well earned. Restaurants around the country should aspire to provide the quality of food, service, and overall hospitality Jewel of the South provides on a regular basis. It will continue to be our first and foremost recommendation to anyone we know who is going to New Orleans. Bravo! We shall return!

Supposedly…read morereservations were hard to get, but that is because they allot most of the place for walk-ins, so you don't need to put in the effort that I did to book a time a month in advance. We were seated in the upstairs area and tried some of their drinks. We got the Brandy Crusta which is their most popular drink and the Pouvez-Vous Poulet which is a seasonal cocktail. The Brandy Crusta has the cup dipped in sugar with a fairly strong cocktail within. Definitely get this when you are here as that is one of the best Brandy Crustas and is historical. The Pouvez-Vous Poulet is a duck fat washed rum cocktail and is also very delicious. You cannot really go wrong with any cocktail, but definitely order the Brandy Crusta for the true experience here. Though, honestly, while the cocktails are good, it was not as memorable as the other Top 50 Best Bars in the World that I have been to, but I won't dock a star off because of this, since the cocktails and overall experience otherwise were fantastic. Service is good but can be a bit slow, but it is an acceptable tradeoff for a more quiet ambience compared to downstairs.

We specifically found this restaurant because we searched online for gluten free restaurants, so we were excited to see that you offered a separate gluten free menu. However, there are some serious issues with the accuracy of that menu that need to be addressed. When we asked about the pork rinds brought to the table, we were told they are fried in the same oil as everything else. That in itself is your choice as a restaurant, and we understand cross contamination can happen. We were also told the french fries are cooked in beef tallow in a separate fryer, but they are not considered gluten free, which is why they are not listed on the gluten free menu. Again, that is completely understandable. What is not acceptable is having items listed on the gluten free menu that are not actually gluten free due to cross contamination. The pork rinds and cheddar filled tater tots were both listed on the gluten free menu despite being fried in shared oil with gluten containing foods. For someone with celiac disease, this is not a small mistake or a dietary preference issue. My husband has celiac disease, and if he had eaten the pork rinds based on trusting the gluten free menu, he could have become extremely ill and potentially needed hospital care. Our daughter has gluten sensitivity, and she would have been sick for the rest of the night as well. Many people still treat gluten free as if it is just a fad diet, but for people with celiac disease, it is a serious autoimmune condition that causes real physical harm. To the OWNER: please educate your staff and kitchen on what gluten free truly means, and update the menu so customers can trust it. People with celiac disease should not have to risk getting sick because menu items are mislabeled.

For our fourth wedding anniversary, we chose the four-course menu and had a true five-star experience. Restaurant August excels at hospitality, and the dining room's warm tones create an inviting atmosphere, especially after sunset when the chandeliers and candlelight begin to glow. The setting is stunning. A beautiful open dining room inside a historic building. While we waited in the bar for our guests to arrive, it was clear this was a polished operation. The service team carried themselves with a level of sophistication you don't see everywhere. We chose the four course tasting menu, where each course offers three options. With four of us dining, we ordered every option and doubled up on one we thought deserved a larger portion. First Course Tuna Crudo Wagyu Beef Tartare Grilled Gulf Shrimp Second Course Gnocchi "Black and Blue" Crawfish Tartlet Diver Scallop Third Course Irodori Wagyu Manhattan Strip Snapper Pontchartrain Dry-Aged Duck Breast Fourth Course Tarte à la Bouille Hummingbird Cake After Dinner Mint Course after course, the food was outstanding. Creative, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. The only item we would not order again was the After Dinner Mint dessert. It leaned a bit too heavily on the mint. The wine list is impressive. We ended up ordering three bottles over the course of the evening and enjoyed each one. One issue kept this from being a perfect experience. The third course, our entrée, took 46 minutes to arrive, compared to about 15 minutes between the earlier and later courses. There was no proactive communication from our server. I had to flag her down to ask, and was told it was on the way. That delay stretched our evening by close to 30 minutes, and there was no acknowledgment or effort to make up for it. If I'm scoring it, the food is a 5 out of 5 without question. The service, because of that lapse, was closer to a 3. I'll meet in the middle and give Restaurant August a 4 overall. Even with that hiccup, this was one of the best meals we've ever had in New Orleans.

You may have driven past this place a hundred times, I know I have. There isn't even a sign…read more What? No sign... Yep! There's no sign. When it was being built I thought, why build a gas station across from a gas station? Tucked in what appears to the naked eye as a simple gas station/convenience store is Donuts & Deli. It's no secret I'm from California as I reminiscence often of cool balmy beach weather as I swelter in the humid heat of Southern Louisiana. Louisianians love their snowballs, but we Californians LOVE us some donuts. We have as many donut joints as you have snowball stands, maybe even more. After hearing about this place ( from darling Alexis), I was eager to get my hands on some donuts. They serve a selection of classic donuts, glazed, chocolate, Bavarian cream, jelly filled and sprinkles. But then.......a wide grin as big a the Cheshire Cat creeped across my face as I eye spied a cinnamon roll as big as my head. The little Alice in Wonderland within me jumped for joy as I drooled over the various donut holes and miniature apple fritters, perfect for any mad hatter tea party. We order the giant cinnamon roll, chocolate covered donuts and jelly filled holes, all delicious! I thought I'd try their original potato, filled with the yumminess of bacon bits, cheese, butter, sour cream and green onions for a whopping $3.29 ....their menu includes sandwiches, burgers and smoked meat lunch plates....it's was obvious that some knew about this place as a dozen or so worker guys were chowing down at tables located inside..... And I was assured that the sign is coming soon....... What I discovered, even though my name isn't Alice nor did I follow a white rabbit down a hole....is that I won't have to travel far to grab delicious donuts or a bite for lunch.......Donuts & Deli gets the California stamp of approval, I'm a fan!
