Had reservations for 6:30 for Valentine's Day. Date night with my husband. Got all dressed up looking forward to the night. We got there no one came to seat us. The people waiting behind us went to the bar and they sat them. So we did the same. Waited a long time finally got a drink order in 30-45 min. later. 2 hr. 45 min. later still no food. The waiter told us they can box our food to take home!Really!!! We were pretty livid by that point. Well they brought our food right after and it was cold. Took couple bites, left the rest and went home hungry. Thanks for ruining our night. read more

Title: A Time Capsule of Culinary Confusion--Now with Extra Disappointment Walking into this restaurant felt like stepping into a museum exhibit titled "The 1960s: Mold Edition." The décor hasn't been updated since bell-bottoms were in style, and the smell of old mold was so strong I half expected to see spores on the menu. Every chair had a gray smudge where countless hands have pushed off over the decades--think of it as their version of "patina," but less charming. I understand the original owner, Melvin, has passed away, and since his children have taken over, the standards have apparently gone the way of rotary phones. Appetizers: The Oysters Bienville were a mystery--mainly because I'm not sure an oyster was involved in their creation. The mixture was cold, flavorless, and could have doubled as wallpaper paste. Next came the honey-glazed pork belly, which was 90% fat and topped with what tasted like microwaved Sweet Baby Ray's mixed with honey. If you're into culinary plot twists, this was one. Salad & Soup: The Melvin's Salad was decent--nothing to write home about, but at least it didn't fight back. The shrimp corn soup was also passable, though I had to call in reinforcements (Tabasco) to give it a pulse. Entrées: The hamburger with onion gravy? Let's just say McCormick's gravy mix would have been an upgrade. The meat fell apart like my willpower at a dessert buffet. Then came the Chicken Francaise, which is supposed to be a delicate, lemon-butter masterpiece. What arrived looked like a chicken breast that had been seasoned in a lawnmower bag and required a samurai sword to cut. Chewy doesn't even begin to cover it. Sides: The creamed spinach was the grand finale--a dish so confusing it deserves its own Netflix documentary. The top layer looked like someone attacked it with a blowtorch set to "industrial," and the watery spinach beneath had me scanning for koi fish. Verdict: If you're nostalgic for the '60s and enjoy culinary surprises (the kind that make you question your life choices), this is your spot. Otherwise, bring a snack for the ride home. read more

Came here for a special occasion and they didn't disappoint! There have been times in the past where so couldn't have written such a glowing review but they've really stepped up. Wonderful friendly and attentive service (wasn't extremely busy). We were sat by the window, our favorite spot. The food was excellent; the newest chef has really stepped up and owned their place! Location is great, for Houma. Go when it is cool out or later in the evening so you can truly enjoy the garden. Save room for the Cheesecake and have them add the homemade blackberry sauce. Yummy! Good salads with toppings like fried shrimp or oysters. Would be an awesome place for a small wedding or formal party! read more

The owner is now deceased, so perhaps you won't have to feel as though you've invaded his space when you arrive. The food is good, not "great", and the service is always a plus. the menu options need to include less cream sauces and more healthier option. Overall, a nice place, away from a t.v in the center of a room. Go to Walk-ons if that's what you're after. This place could be a mega dining experience, but it needs some serious attention to the dilapidated areas. Come on, guys! You have a hidden jewel here..... read more

We waited for over an hour and a half to get our food which we never received. The table next to us came an hour after us and ordered the same meal as us and received their food. The wait staff only offered to compt a Coca Cola for us; so they didn't really do anything to smooth the situation over. Was really looking forward to this meal all week and it was going to be our early Valentine's Day dinner. I will probably never try here again and I will be telling my friends and family the same. read more

For whatever reason, a lot of the restaurants in Houma appear to look like deserted houses. But then when you enter them, they are full of people and nicely decorated. I'm tempted to just walk up to random houses and see if they are restaurants. Seeing as how I was in Louisiana and have never had real jambalaya, I figured I'd give it a go. The jambalaya here was with pork and sausage (possibly being redundant here) served with a side of peas and a dinner roll. The jambalaya itself was pretty good, very flavorful but lacked a good spice level. However, nothing that a good heaping dose of hot sauce couldn't fix. Also, it's worth noting that they serve Coke by the glass bottle. Score. Any real Coke drinker knows that glass bottle Coke is the real way to drink Coke. The real star of the menu is the myriad of desserts. I tried the peanut butter pie and it was delicious. It was essentially peanut butter filling with a cookie crust topped with fresh whipped cream. I'm told that it exceeds 800 calories per serving. Those of you familiar with my look of indifference...picture that now. Service was good. The restaurant appears to be off a back road and honestly, I wouldn't be able to find this place again if my life depended on it. Definitely worth checking out. It's a little on the dressier side given that the clientele was older, but I don't think they'd turn you away if you were dressed casually. read more

I would give it a BIG FAT 0, but have to give it a 1 Star. Had reservations at 6:30pm for 4 on Valentine's Day. Arrived at 6pm thinking we could get a drink at the bar before, but they decided to sit us early. Put us on the patio which was GREAT, and thought it would be a GREAT night. Well, it went down hill fast. No one talked to us and did not get a glass of water until 30min after sitting. Asked if we had a waitress, hostess says "Let me try to find you one". Stopped a waitress passing by and asked her, "Are you our waitress?". She replied, "I can be if you want me to be?". She took our drink order and served our appetizer, which was terrible. An hour after sitting, we asked if our drinks were ready, and she said "I don't see them out on the bar yet, so no not yet". We looked at the bar and there was no one making drinks. We asked if we owed anything for the water and appetizer, and she said no, so we walked out and left. As we were leaving, we could see the frustration from customers at every table. This is pittiful!!!! We will never go back and I recommend not going for dinner for sure. read more

When we arrived we were in love with this old house hidden away atmosphere, a group of 6 well dressed, beautiful ladies walked in, beautifully decorated. That was the best part of the evening... well, that & the bread.. it was as if we were aliens coming to earth for the first time. Obviously a few tables of "regulars " had all eyes on us , glaring as if we interrupted an important meeting. Feeling very uncomfortable when who I assume to be "Melvin" reluctantly pulls himself up from a table to walk over & grab menus to seat us, made us feel even more unwelcome. We were seated and we complemented him on his beautiful establishment and asked if the window (which had closed blinds) looked out on the water. In a brash way he said yes but the sun would be in your face. Ok.... I get it.... The waitress come and we feel better because she was a complete delight . We place our orders, most came with house salads. We sat nearly an hour and finally asked the waitress about our salads. Her answer was Oh I can't bring them out until he tells me to.. umm ok... We were confused because when we got them, it wasn't some fantastic piece of art salad. We waited an hour for bagged salad slapped on a plate?!? Ohhhh K.... by that time the sun went down & we ourselves opened the blinds and mentioned to the waitress how beautiful the setting was. She said feel free to walk out there anytime. So after we were served our basic, boring but tasty food that was extremely overpriced. Paid for our meals . We decided to walk outside. We heard him say in a very abrupt and aggravated tone "Turn on the lights out there" Not a Thank you ladies, I hoped you enjoyed your visit.... Come again...we got the hint and exited to our vehicle... Obviously lesson learned ... We won't be back... And I know our little opinion won't matter. But this opinion is ours & how we felt. We felt very unwelcome and overpaid for food we could have gotten at any other seafood restaurant in the area and our business appreciated. My husband and I had reservations for 7 for our Valentine's Day Dinner. It took more than 15 minutes for waitress to take our drink order (it was busy, I understood). I wanted the crab cakes and she said they were out. So I opted for the redfish, which is not my favorite, nor were the 2 other choices on the limited menu. My husband ordered the Chateaubriand. When the entree finally came out, my food was barely warm and my husband's food was room temperature. We sent it back with a different waitress because we didn't see ours. She brings it back and half of the plate was hot, however the meal as a whole was not. I asked to speak to the manager, which I found out was Melvin himself. He came to our table with a smug face and attitude and asked "what's the problem?" So I proceeded to tell him that I did not expect them to run out of crab cakes at 7:30 when we ordered and that I had to order something I really did not want and that our entrees were cold. He said unapologetically, "There's only so much crab I can get and I'm gonna tell you what you can do right now, and that's to leave!" and he pointed toward the door. My husband and I had been there a few times in the past for this occasion and were always pleased with the service and food. But NEVER AGAIN! read more

Food was okay. Dishes could be more presentable. Escargot appetizer was good w the sauce it was cooked in, but you can tell the escargot wasn't fresh due to its texture (Too soft and mushy). Steak was good. The broiled seafood was okay, too salty. Service was great. read more
