Beautiful decor, great service and delicious food - true trifecta of dining. Our group started with the Verdi salad, fresh and tasty, and the meatballs, savoury and delicious. Then came the short-rib papardelle, pepperoni pizza, gnocchi al tartufo and funghi pizza. We loved each one! We were all full but couldn't resist dessert. Imagine a toddler made pizza dough, then made a pizza and cooked it, all by themself. Look what I made, Mommy, PIZZA! I thought I would change it up and try a couple of pizzas from CIMA. I looked at insta, FB and here on Yelp before deciding to order. I was honestly expecting artisan Italian food. What I received was surprisingly bad. The crust was paper thin and burnt. It tasted like whole wheat flour and was extremely tough, as though it was kneaded for an hour to make it as thin as possible. Then there was the pizza sauce, which tasted more like plum sauce than anything else. So if you aren't wanting a pizza that flops like a soggy napkin and tastes like burnt paper smothered in plum sauce, find another pizza. I thought of ordering their pasta because of the reviews and the expertly culinary presentation, thinking it must be amazing but if they are able to mess up a pizza this badly, they could potentially ruin pasta for the rest of my life. Just because you buy a restaurant on Locke Street and dress it up like a Michelin rated restaurant you saw on insta, doesn't mean you are suddenly good at this. Nice dining room dimly lit with sleek lines and comfortable chairs. The pizza and pasta dishes are all well done. I enjoyed a basic pasta with mildly flavored tomato sauce and lots of fresh parmesan . Service was friendly and we were pleased with the timing of our courses and presentation of the bill. Had a lovely first meal in Hamilton. We arrived around 7pm on a Saturday evening. They told us it would be a 1.5 hour wait unless we were willing to sit three people on one side of a table, which was totally fine with us. We each tried out a different pasta. I ordered the short rib papperdelle. I liked the short rib, but the pasta could've been a little softer. Overall a good dish. Our group was probably a little underdressed for this atmosphere, but I especially appreciated the decor elements in this restaurant. There was a different rose gold light piece on each marble table, and christmas-y touches throughout the rest of the place. We happened to be seated right in front of the (open) kitchen, which proved to have great lighting (and can't complain about the transparency). Prices are just average to slightly higher than expected, but I do think CIMA is worth a visit if you're in town. read more

my friends and i came here to celebrate the end of our first year at mcmaster, and we had a great time! the arancini was amazing; perfectly cheesy, crispy, and a really good appetizer to share. it took a while for us to get our main meals, but that was understandable since it was quite busy when we went. i got the rigatoni al pomodoro and even though it was "simple", it was some of the best pasta i've ever had! the rigatoni was perfectly al dente and the sauce was SO GOOD and stuck to the pasta so well. i'd 100% come again another time :D read more

One of my favorite local pizzas! So glad CIMA came to Locke Street. I love the super fresh fancy oven baked crust. We've stopped in a few times and have been fairly satisfied with our meals. I go there at least once a week - I usually have the margarita as its is incredible (maybe even comparable to pizza I had in Napoli this past summer). We had a 6:15 reservation we were going to be there before the grace period and then they informed us that our reservation was at 6 . i have the email to prove it was at 6:15 . I came here with a party of 5 around 8:30 on a Saturday evening and they quoted us a 25-30 minute wait unless we squished into a 4 person booth, which was available at the time. We opted to squish into the smaller table and we were seated immediately. I wasn't too hungry, so I ordered the Cozze allo Zafferano, which came with an abundance of the most delicious PEI mussels that just melted in my mouth. It was served with 4 slices of house-made focaccia. Everything tasted heavenly. My only complaint would be that the bread was cold - it would've been nice if they had toasted or heated it up a little. My friends ordered their cacio e pepe and La Cima pizza and everyone was happy with their orders. You can also substitute all their pastas with a gluten free penne for an extra $1. read more

Haven't tried everything on the menu but I can say that despite some of the spotty reviews the eggplant gnocchi was very delicious; eggplant tasted like butter sauce was flavourful and the gnocchi were like pillows. My bf had the fungi pizza which was also very good- aromatic and robust in flavour. People have said that the pizza was burnt but it was just nicely charred-pretty authentic to me, not too well done at all. All in all nice atmosphere and fine service. read more

Have been dying to try this place since I live about 6 mins away. Finally decided to go last night (my bf and I and another couple). We arrived around 7:30pm and told there would be about a 30 minute wait. So we put our names down and then decided to walk Locke St while we waited. We came back after 30 minutes and the hostess (who wasn't the most friendly) didn't recognize us -sure no big deal, I understand there's a lot of faces. I asked about time and she said we were the next table to be seated and we could wait near the bar (which we did). About 20 minutes later I got a call from the hostess who was literally 3 feet away from me and clearly forgot about us again ...it was a little awkward and unprofessional. We were seated near the open kitchen. The decor of the restaurant is really nice but the glaring white lights from the kitchen really kill the ambiance you get from the dim candlelight type of vibe they strive for! Drinks are pricey. Menu is decently priced. We ended up getting warm bread and olives to start served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It was good! My partner and I decided to split a pizza (the Cima) and a pasta dish (bucatini all'amatriciana). The pizza was good but not great. We asked for additional chilli flakes or chilli sauce since the pizza was lacking in some way. They brought a roasted pepper sauce that had a bite to it and it was quite good. Definitely made the pizza eating more memorable. The other couple did the same. If you are truly looking for authentic Italian pizza like in Napoli definitely take a trip to Niagara on the Lake and check out Pieza Pizzaria... 10 Times better! As for the pasta dish ...bucatini all'amatriciana is a pasta dish with a spicy red sauce, cured pork cheek that Italians call "guanciale", pecorino cheese, chili peppers and garlic. It's a staple dish in Rome and you can get it at any restaurant there! (I had it numerous times while in Rome and being half Italian myself, my family makes this dish a lot! I guess I had high expectations going in) Anyways ...Cima's version was SO over salted that we could barely get it down. Guanciale is naturally salty because it is a cured meat... I have a feeling the cooks added more salt to the dish without realizing this (but at an Italian restaurant... this is a rookie mistake). Italian cuisine is one where the food really does need to be cooked with love and excitement. The cooks behind the counter in the open kitchen did not look happy or enthused... it looked like a major chore to them and merely a job. I'd suggest finding some cooks who truly know Italian cooking and have a passion for it. It may shine through in the food more. The worst part of this review is the experience post dinner and the next day. As soon as we left the restaurant, both my partner and I felt very uneasy and our stomachs were bothering us. We both ate the exact same thing as we shared everything. We got back to our place and took pepto straight away. We felt a little better until the next day. Both of us have been glued to the toilet non stop today. The other couple were fine ... we had the exact same thing except for the pasta dish... so we're guessing it had something to do with that. Be aware. I would like to add that our waitress was definitely very nice and that was the only plus. All in all, there are far better Italian restaurants to check out and after feeling so sick, we will definitely not give it another chance. read more

I don't mean to sound harsh but this was the worst Italian restaurant I've ever been to. We'll start off with the environment. Walked in and was greeted by a friendly hostess who sat us right away. The lighting was excellent as it set the vibe nicely. Table setup was fantastic! Kudos to the interior designer! It's the only reason why this review has a star. Now, for the food and service. The waitress was pretty friendly and even though she bragged about her Italian roots, she had no idea about the Italian food that was on the menu. I've been to quite a few high quality Italian restaurants (Buca, terroni, cibo, etc.) and would consider myself pretty knowledgeable in Italian dishes. I realized it's a new spot, new staff, so I'll keep it simple. I was sceptical of the food after meeting the waitress so we decided to order as the night went on. Appetizer, calamari. To my surprise, one of the best calamari. Great balance of flavours and good portion size. We ate it all but it was only downhill from there. We ordered a pizza shortly after and it took so long to make! After waiting around 25 minutes for a pizza, we realized she served us the wrong one! It looked great but once we saw the bottom of the pizza we knew what we were in for. They were nice enough to let us eat the funghi while we wait for calabrese but wow was it disgusting. The funghi toppings tasted like it came straight out of the can (not surprised if it did since they use primo tomato sauce shown in their open kitchen). The crust had burnt edges and overpowered most of the flavour. My friend and I couldn't bare more than 3 bites so we told them to take it away. Another 10-15 minutes passed before the calabrese came out and again, toppings weren't flavourful, burnt edges overpowered the taste and the texture made our jaws hurt after a few bites. Our white napkins was turning a charcoal colour from holding the burnt outer layer of the pizza. Pasta, couldn't even risk another disappointment so we ended our night of entrees there. The dessert was mediocre, looked and had the texture like it was premade in the morning. You can tell because the dessert was the same temperature as the plate. Portion of the dessert was disappointing. I get the vibe you're trying to accomplish but I don't think it's working. The prices are comparable to places with actual high quality food. Definitely won't be returning, it's not worth it. Save your money and go somewhere else. Stop trying so hard and focus on how to cook a pizza and increase the QUALITY of food. read more

From start to finish I had a fabulous dinner at CIMA with six friends. They easily accommodated us and promptly set us up at the bar while we waited for a table (only 15 minutes or so). I ordered an Aperol spritz while we waited and it was beautifully presented and garnished by an enthusiastic bartender. I ordered the calamari fritti to start, the short-rib pappardelle, and the tiramisu. All courses were lovely with the pappardelle being my favourite (decadent, flavourful, and a sizeable portion). The tiramisu was fabulous too -- I particularly liked the tiny meringues that garnished it. Espresso after dinner was rich and reasonably priced. Highly recommend for a special dinner or a group. read more

We heard good things about food at Cima Enoteca and I called to book a table for our friend's birthday. A reply came through an automated message saying that the restaurant doesn't take reservations. Therefore, I assumed they served people on first come first served basis. We were ok with that, and ready to wait to get a table, and we showed up at the door around 7.30 pm. There was no line, and we did not see anyone waiting in front of us. We also saw at least three empty tables in the main dining area only. To our great surprise and disappointment, a greeter told us that the place is full and the waiting time is around an hour. When I pointed at empty tables, the greeter offered a confusing explanation about people who are waiting for the seats but are not in the restaurant yet. She offered to put uson a waiting list and wait once a table is open. We found this very confusing (not taking reservations, but also not serving on first come first serve basis!) and utterly disrespectful, because we had a feeling that we were turned away purely for no good reason. We had a supper in a very nice nearby restaurant, and we certainly won't go back to CIMA Enoteca until they give an option to book a table or start serving customers on first come first serve basis. I just want to add that we were not even offered to wait for a table at the bar. This is totally unacceptable and I hope this review will help to change these ridiculous rules. read more

I would give 0 stars if possible. Here is why (families be warned): Tried CIMA at Locke and Melbourne for the first time about a month and a half ago with my wife. Arrived late in the evening. The decor was nice and the food was obviously freshly prepared. Returned yesterday on a Tuesday afternoon at 4:30pm with a party of 5, plus 2 infants, 1 stroller (in case one fell asleep), and 1 diaper bag. There were no other patrons in the restaurant. Completely empty. The hostess/waitress was kind enough to push a table for 2 together with a table for 4, which left an empty space where the smaller table had been. Things quickly turned. We presumed wrongly that the empty spot would be perfect for our stroller. We were told that all strollers had to be left at the front of the restaurant near the entrance/exit. The reason given was that for safety or some liability regulation, traffic had to be free flowing. Odd considering you would think that all restaurants would have to comply with the same, but somehow manage to accommodate families nonetheless. We were also informed that the restaurant had no booster seats available. The hostess left for a moment, either to allow us an opportunity to prepare to move our stroller or to discuss whether or not to stay. We wanted to stay, so when the hostess returned, we mentioned that there were no other guests looking to eat at 4:30pm and that there was plenty of room to ensure that the stroller would not impede their staff. We were informed again that was not permitted, and we took another moment to discuss our options. Not wanting to inconvenience ourselves to access and benefit an uninclusive, inflexible "establishment", we left. Something stunk Hamilton and it wasn't my kid's diaper. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. Come on CIMA! Be better. I will never return and will not recommend to friends (nor enemies for that matter). Moments later, at 4:40pm, we called a different restaurant at Dundurn and Aberdeen (the Aberdeen Tavern) for a 5:00pm reservation that same day. We obtained the reservation, were welcomed immediately when arrived, were provided a table for 8 (2 seats being boosters), hot water to warm bottles, and the staff did not even mind when one of the 6-month olds fell asleep on their plush leather-backed bench seating. We enjoyed the 2-hour experience of drinks, appetizers, mains, desserts and coffee. It was worth it. All fantastic. Bravo to a real restaurant that values its customers and welcomes doing its job to the highest standard. Come on CIMA! Learn how it is done. Be better. read more
