This is the closest I've had to modern Chinese cuisine in Boston so far. Swing Pork Belly 晾衣白肉: My first time trying Lizhuang pork belly, I'd heard so much about it! The pork belly was sliced very thinly, chilled to perfection, and served with refreshing cucumber slices--not greasy at all. The minced fresh garlic was a bit too spicy for me, but the chili oil was very fragrant, making it very flavorful overall. Yibin Style Ran Noodles 宜賓燃麵: Another first time trying this, how could noodles be so delicious... The alkaline noodles were thin and firm, with a great texture; the flavor was oily, savory, and slightly spicy, with a delightful sweet aftertaste--fragrant but not greasy. The cucumber shreds added to the overall refreshing taste. Green Pepper Mao Xue Wang 青一色毛血旺: My first time trying Maoxuewang with green peppers, and it was surprisingly fresh and clean, with a medicinal aroma. The spiciness was only mild, and it wasn't oily at all. The ingredients were good: the pig's blood and konjac were smooth and chewy, the pork aorta was crisp and springy, the celtuce were crisp, and the eel shreds were chewy and crunchy--a very rich selection. Spicy Frog Lover 舌尖上的蛙跳: Relatively average. It had the classic Sichuan boiling flavor, but the broth was almost like it had been thickened with cornstarch; the frog meat was a bit firm, not tender; and the pickled vegetables were too acidic.

Everything came out flavorful, spicy, and packed with that numbing Sichuan peppercorn kick. The spicy chicken was probably my favorite crispy, well seasoned, and loaded with dried chilies. The boiled beef had a rich, spicy broth and was great with rice. The beef and tripe appetizer was also really good and had a nice balance of chili oil, sesame, peanuts, and that signature mala flavor. Portions were generous and the food definitely delivered if you're looking for authentic, bold Sichuan flavors. Overall, a very good meal and somewhere I'd come back to.

One for the lap and at least 2 more to mop sweat from my head. The food was so perfectly spiced, peppery, tasty, with a lip tingling afterglow. This time? The napkin never left my lap and there was not even a bead of sweat on my brow. No lips tingling. This food was, in a word, boring. OK food, but not the drive out of my way good that it used to be. The portion proportions have also changed for the worse. Much less bacon. Much more rice. I feel like there should have been more meat for the money. I probably will not be back, and after more than 15 years of patronage, I'm sad.

Simple, straightforward, no BS kinda casual spot…read morewith decently priced lunch specials and an acceptable culinary repertoire to back it all up. In fact, ever since the other Chinese spot changed ownership, I entirely switched to eating here whenever I want a quick sit down Chinese meal. The food is good. It comes out pretty fast. It's done pretty well. And the best part, it just doesn't remotely hurt the wallet. Even being a regular, I'm still amused at how the service is so stereotypical Chinese in the way that I'm just another soul coming in to be fed and not remembered or acknowledged. Mind you, I'm here a LOT and am usually the only one sitting there eating while delivery people repeatedly come and go. Anyways, two reasons why I'm unable to give them 5 stars. First, the tap water they serve...tastes like @#$%. I don't know what it is but I've actually started bringing my own water bottle (or just ordered a soda). Two, the steamed rice is inconsistent. Half the time, it's perfect. The other half...is wet and mushy (I want to say a reheat but isn't that just such a faux pax in Chinese cuisine?). Nonetheless, this is one of the few four and less starred places on my list that I will still continue to frequent and recommend to anyone in the area wanting a quick and decent meal for cheap!

I really enjoyed the Twice Cooked Pork and the Chong Qing Dry Hot Chicken; the quality and flavor made this genuinely one of the best Sichuan restaurants in the entire Boston area. But I would skip the Sichuan Pork Dumplings with Chili Vinaigrette. The drinks were also good; I particularly liked the cocktail called Into the Melon Patch. However, the experience was held back by two key factors: the cost and the service. The dinner was expensive for this type of cuisine. Furthermore, the service was subpar. For example, we asked for white rice, and it took two staff members and about 10 minutes for us to get the additional rice. The high quality of the dishes and drinks made the meal worthwhile, but be prepared for a higher cost and service that does not match the kitchen's standards.

The pro…read moreis the the decor and atmosphere is better than most mom and pop chinese spots but honestly the food was just ok. Some of the dishes we got were kung pao chicken, stir fried cauliflower, string beans, mustard green pork belly and sichuan fish fillet. We typically don't eat much spicy food so got everything mild and while the flavors were ok, I thought the fish was too mushy and the pork belly was kind of bland. Everything felt too covered in oil without the punch of flavor the dishes needed. In addition, while the service was fine, the waitress/waiters were quite loud clanking dishes and opening and closing drawers that it disturbed our meal. It's one thing to be in a bustling restaurant but there weren't that many people so the noise was a bit bothersome and really stood out. Overallt not that bad but I'd skip as I've been to better sichuan restaurants in the Boston area.

Service was quick and not a bad deal for $14 after tax. It is busy in there and if you aren't a spice fan make sure to ask for modifications. The cashew chicken is not spicy.

I'm also not sure if it was because I got them delivered, but they were rlly lacking soup. They were frankly a bit dry. The entire order didn't come with any sauces either so I had to use what I had at home. The chili pork dumplings made up for the soup ones. Super solid. They have their dough down to a science. I wasn't sure abotu the dan dan based on appearance being just the meat and noodles but the meat was seasoned very well, so it was super flavorful. I wanted something different for dinner and this place has been on my list to visit for a while…read more There were plenty of parking spaces to choose from. When we went inside, there was only one other party there and no music, so just whispers and the sounds of utensils against plates. There are about 4-5 booths and 1-2 regular tables to choose from. Since l am not familiar with Sichuan cuisine, I had Al help me choose my dishes. I went with the dumplings in chili sauce, fried rice, eggplant in garlic sauce, and chongquin chicken. While we waited, we were given water. The dishes came out at different times. They first served us the dumplings which were really good. The sauce they were in did have some chili sauce, but it was mostly like a sweet soy sauce and really tasty. It came with about 6 dumplings with a perfectly cooked wrapper and filled with flavorful pork - simple but delicious. Next was the eggplant. I was expecting a heavy garlic presence, but it was more like a sweet and sour sauce. The eggplant was very tender, but really hot so we had to wait to let it cool down a bit. The rice came after. I honestly think this was one of my favorite dishes since it was perfectly cooked, great flavor, and good portion. Lastly, the chicken came out. There was a large pile of chicken, but half of it was peppers. The chicken was cut into little bite sized pieces, each fried perfectly. Some pieces were more tongue numbing than others but it was nothing aggressive; very gentle and comfortable numb. I would have liked if there were music, but the no music was fine too; an escape from chaotic reality. Our total was around $50, which wasn't bad for the amount of food we got. I would come back to try other items.
