I don't know if it's me, or if things here aren't as good as they used to be. We stopped by last night because Casa de Albertos is closed on Tuesdays (sadface) and this was the best nearby option. The interior is still really pretty, but things are looking a bit scuffed/chipped in some places. The Mister commented that he didn't feel like things were as clean as in days past. In any case, it's always good to see a place filled with mostly Mexican-Americans and families, which was the case last night. The food? Pretty decent - I went with my standby chicken tacos (taco truck style, naturally) and they were good for sure. The salsa we were given was pretty boring though - I remember it being better/fresher tasting. Portions are very large for the price and food comes out lightning fast. On this trip, I tried a margarita ($5) and just...no...never again. It was the worst kind of mix-y gross - cloyingly syrupy sweet and terribly sour all at once, like someone liquefied a Sour Patch Kid, and barely any tequila at all. I know - it was $5 so what's my problem? I'd love to see an option to upgrade to something drinkable - I don't mind paying a bit extra. Finally, service was just plain bad which was surprising considering there were just a few tables. Our server took our order, delivered a round of beverages and much later, our check. Never checked in with us, never refilled anything - and we definitely were looking for refills. After dining here well over a hundred times (likely well over 200), I figured it's time to give them a good Yelp! review. I have worked one block away from this place for nearly eight years. In my first year of employment, I seldom visited, but since then, I'd say I average one visit every two weeks with a few long breaks every so often (darn diets!). What keeps me returning? Efficient service, good value, and GREAT pork! For example, I ate there this afternoon. Within seconds of being seated, my drink order was taken, house chips and salsa were served, and a menu was presented. In 7 years, never can I recall a grumpy waiter or waitress (actually, I can't remember a waiter of any sort -- only waitresses!) and today was no different. Two waitresses greeted me and took my order with pleasant smiles. Within minutes, my order was served -- fresh, hot, and delicious as always. When dining here, unless one is politically opposed or religiously restricted, the pork must be tried. It is their specialty. I don't know how it is prepared, but I assume it is cubed and simmered for many hours in a cauldron of red sauce goodness. It always rocks and I've had none like it anywhere else in Milwaukee. I have taken many of our company's visitors there over the years and when they ask what's good, I always tell 'em: pork. They try it and always agree: nom, nom, nom ... pork. My favorite is the two taco lunch plate special. Today's price only $5.49. I always get them house style: corn flour tortillas, cilantro, and onions. For no charge, if you want to let your Gringo fly, they'll put some queso on it if you ask. Crisp corn chips and lively fresh pico de gallo and unlimited soft drinks round out the perfect visit. I can't say Cielito Lindo is the best Mexican restaurant in Milwaukee -- there's far too many places I haven't tried to say that -- but I can tell you it is my favorite in the Walker's Point / Latin Quarter area, and if you're familiar with all of the Mexican restaurants in this area, that's saying quite a lot! read more

I loved this place. We decided to try it based only on the reviews and we won a $20 GC last year. It is a cute place on the inside, decorated like many other Mexican restaurants and it was well kept. The service was very good. We probably had 3 waitresses attending to us. I ordered the #17 which was steak, peppers with cheese. It came with beans and rice. It was so good. The steak was cooked perfect and the poblano peppers were just enough to give it a good texture and taste. The chips and salsa on the table was good and they give you some homemade hot sauce. That is the key, it is really tasty. We poured and mixed some in our salsa. The people at my table got the ground beef chimichanga and the pork sirloin in red sauce. Both were really good. Our food was out in probably less than 5 minutes after we ordered. I will be back and would definitely suggest to a friend. read more

I went to Cielito Lindo with a friend who wanted to share the shimp, chicken and beef served in a heated molcajete for two and came with warm tortilla's we asked for corn and flour a side of rice, beans sour cream and guacamole was included for each of us. It was wonderful, the meat was tender and tasty and it had onions and peppers all mixed in, I loved it. When I lived in New Jersey and I'd come out to Milwaukee I was starving for good Mexican food which at the time was sorely lacking out there. Now I live in CA and good Mexican food there is easy to find my expectation of what is good just got kicked up a notch. I've tried them all out here over many years and I go back for specific dished in each one. For me at Celito Lindo it will be for this dish for sure. read more

Can't believe I haven't tried this place before. Had a gift certificate for here and decided to go for dinner. Chips and salsa were good. They also brought over some hot sauce in a bottle that had a good bite to it. I ordered the pork plate, my wife the #17 (steak, poblano peppers, cheese) and our friend had the chimichangas. All dinners came with rice and beans. When I ordered the pork plate with red sauce the waitress stated that it's spicy and suggested I order it with a mix of red sauces. I'm glad I did because I was still sweating. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The steak was tender and had a good flavor. The chimichangas were pretty big. The food comes out quick and there is a lot of it. Service was also good. Several staff checked on us periodically. Also there are plenty of items on the menu. This was my first time here and I have to say it was a mediocre experience. We ordered the queso fundido con rajas de poblano, which although tasty, I was disappointed by the serving size. It was smaller than I thought and for three people it is not enough. I ordered the steak burrito dinner, which was good, however I felt the steak was a little bland. I'll just say that it wasn't the best burrito in the world and leave it at that. As far as atmosphere goes it resembles your typical Mexican restaurant with artistic murals and bright colors, which I enjoyed. The reason I rated this three stars was due to the service. After the drink order was taken, I felt that our server neglected us. Once we they came back we were able to put in our app, but then again we were left waiting a while to see our waitress to put in the order. Then once we were served, our waitress never came to check in on us. It came to the point that we had to go to someone else to close out our tab and pay the bill. That all being said it was a Tuesday, so I'm not sure why we were left hanging in the wind. You won't be disappointed! We were in the neighborhood looking for breakfast and happened upon este restaurante. Stepping in, it feels like we're back in Texas! The ceiling and walls are brightly painted to reflect "cielito lindo". They have a huge menu. Everything looks delicious-- but we went for our standard Mexican breakfast-- migas and chorizo con huevos! So delicious. Also tried a chimichanga and their queso. Complementary chips and salsa. Salsa tastes bright and fresh. They also have a red sauce in a squeeze bottle-- can't skip that one. It's not the best salsa ever, but definitely delicious. Excellent service. I was shocked by the treatment we received during a recent visit. We called and made reservations for 10 people and they said they could accommodate us. When we got there a lady manager got a HUGE attitude because she said she didn't know about a party of 10. There was also a feeling of racism like they didn't want to accommodate people of my race but I tried to let that go. Then she said like three times that they would NOT divide the check. After a few questions we realized that they had a mixup on their end. There was clearly a big table set up in the restaurant for a large party but I'm not sure why they were so angry that they had 10 paying customers. I will never go there again. When my sister and I dropped here we were ravenous and wanted to try some good food in Milwaukee. Lo' and behond Cielito Lindo had wonderful reviews and it was right downtown. The food? Was bomb. Amazing, large generous portions (more than we can stomache), with excellent service and amazing art walls for you to enjoy. I loved everything about this place -- except its distance from where I live ;( That said, I ordered the burrito with rice and beans and my sister had a bowl of yumminess filled with guac, vegies, protein, rice and beans. Absolutely authentic amazing Mexican food. We were a fan immediately. If we drop my Milwaukee again, this will be my first restaurant to hit up again =D read more

Cielito Lindo is a very good choice when you need a quick lunch break. They have their own parking that is nicely fenced, giving you better first impression compared to other Mexican options in the area. Service was quick and courteous. My group ordered the lunch platter (rice, beans, tortillas, with a choice of chicken/steak/pastor pork) and they were served in less than 10 minutes after we ordered! The price is very good ($6.49/platter) and the portion was pretty generous for the price- I was so full that I struggled to stay awake once I got back to my office. The beans and rice were decent, the meat was flavorful, and the chips and salsa are pretty good as well. Went in for lunch today with four friends. We all had something different. Two of the guys had been here before and liked it allot. I was not impressed. from the start the décor was pretty Generic Mexican , but that doesn't really matter very much to me. . ] Service is fast and polite enough. Normally its an amazing best place for Mexican food. But we all have a bad day... told the lady I'm not in a rush. Boom less than 5 minutes I had my meal.. I pushed it away and a younger woman came over and asked what's wrong. She tried to say it's the cook's fault and I said No it's Not.She didn't understand what I said, it's all on her.. A gentleman (manager idk) even asked.. As a native Arizonan in the Midwest, I'm hesitant to try Mexican food, and when I stumbled upon Cielito Lindo last night I was pleasantly surprised! This place is super authentic. The indicator of good Mexican food is the rice and bean quality, and Cielito Lindo has it down! My friends enjoyed their enchiladas and quesadilla. I felt my tostadas were a little lackluster, but still hit the spot. Like I said, I'm happy with really authentic rice and beans. The staff was ultra friendly and attentive and our mango margaritas were delicious. Fair prices and a happy family environment. Plus, Cielito Lindo serves food pretty late which is a perk. Surprisingly the atmosphere and music jams compliment the overall experience. I love having my own bottle of hot sauce to kick it up a few notches. Monstrous portions will leave you carrying out your leftovers. Great prices for the quality of food. Plus, they have their own parking lot. Five stars for this Walkers Point hot spot. I'll be back... Stopped in on a Tuesday night around 6-6:30. Place wasn't busy and we were sat immediately and our drinks came in quick order. The complementary chips were made on site, and very good. The salsa was tasty too. They only offer the first basket for free, but that's not a problem for me because otherwise I tend to fill up on that before my meal even arrives. My girlfriend and I decided to split the molcajete and we were not disappointed. It came out piping hot in a stone bowl and it was one of the tastiest things I've ever had at a Mexican joint. It was definitely enough for 4 meals and we ended up enjoying it for lunch the next day as well. I will have no problem coming back here and trying the rest of their menu... that is, if I hold myself back from ordering the molcajete again! read more

All of you tragic Steve Jobbers at Alterra, on Brady Street, or cruising the Third Ward - close your iBooks and point your Spree towards the clock tower - park kitty corner to Steny's (yeah admit it you know where Steny's is). I used to frequent this place in 2001 as a rookie Milwaukeean - back when their bar area was famous for a freak stabbing (don't worry that was LONG ago) and not a single server spoke english - it was TREMENDOUS then...and the food is still the best hand's down Mexican in Milwaukee today - leave the other commercial National Ave Mexican joints to the Marquette students and their Chicago buddies visiting for the weekend - you want to spend you dinero here before heading out for the night. Went there with my girlfriend on 6:30 on a Saturday night and within twenty seconds we were seated. Received our drinks about a minute after placing them with the server and received the food about 10-15 minutes after ordering. Great atmosphere and great food. What a nice restaurant in the Walkers Point area of Milwaukee. I have been eating here for years, at least once a year traveling all the way from Phoenix. So I have had a bit of Mexican food, and can vouch for this place being legit. The service is impeccable, the food is delicious, the drinks are strong. It's just the comfort food fix I need, especially on the road. Had the sour cream enchiladas one day, and the chorizo scramble the other day. I wish I knew how to speak Spanish so I could pronounce this restaurant's name without butchering it when I recommend it to friends. I feel like Ron Burgundy trying to pronounce "jogging" and using a soft j. This place makes me salivate just thinking about it. The prices here are really low, especially considering the portion sizes. I tried the queso fundido appetizer that consisted of cheese, chorizo and peppers cooked together and served with warm tortillas. This was pretty awesome and super greasy. I mean really greasy. There was enough grease there to slick back the hair of all the teenage boys growing up in the 1950's. I also had a super beef burrito. When I picked it up, I thought I was at the gym because it was so heavy. You can snag one of these for around 6 and a half bucks. Don't like cheese or avocado? Save about a buck and go with a regular burrito--but don't worry, they're just as huge. I also tried the chimichangas which were pretty good. I couldn't ask for much more in a chimichanga and I loved the flavor of it too. The dinner comes with beens, spanish rice, sour cream and lettuce on the side. My waiter was pretty good too--he kept a good conversation, checked up on my group, made sure the food was good and was friendly. This place also has free off-street parking! read more

We came from Chicago to visit Milwaukee and we wanted to stop by and eat at a Mexican restaurant. The food was okay. Not the best but it was decent . The waitress who got our order wrong insisted that I ate what she brought me. She told the cook that I didn't like spicy food and came back and said what I ordered was spicy. I never stated I didn't want spicy . She asked me to just taste it and I told her I didn't like chilaquilles rojos and I wanted verde chillaquilles . This review is based on the service I received . Sometimes I don't want to go straight home from work, I want to go to Walker's Point and eat some Mexican food. I first noticed Cielito Lindo on my morning commute one day and came back that evening to try it out. I ordered the lengua en salsa verde (a version with salsa roja is also available.) I pretty much order beef tongue at any Mexican place that looks pretty good and actually has it on the menu. Cowlitz Lindo's didn't disappoint. The portion was good-sized and I also had a couple of tasty and reasonably-priced margaritas. I went back and had the pollo en mole, which is another dish I tend to order when I find it on menus because it's mostly only found at authentic Mexican restaurants and because there are so many different variations on mole. This proved to be a good choice as well, with tender chicken, and the portion was even huger than I remembered. I took half of it home. So many of the dishes are the kind that make good leftovers, though, so that's not a complaint. I know I have some more exploring to do when it comes to Mexican food in Milwaukee, but Cielito Lindo is a standout so far. read more
