I get that it's on an honor system and can lead to some bad actors, but having your manager serve the six slices got me feeling like a criminal or something. This has to be the most unprofessional customer service I have ever witnessed at a cicis. A poor selection for a manager named Dante (at least that's the name he gave, nobody wears name tags in this establishment) refused to make a BBQ pork pizza because he said that it doesn't sell. After a back and forth about how its policy about making pizza requests, and not wanting a personal pizza like he kept insisting that he was willing to make, he finally decided to follow policy and make the full size pizza. He asked if I wanted the pizza at my table or on the buffet, I told him to put it on the buffet that way other customers can enjoy it too, I took three pieces to not be greedy and left the rest of the pizza on the buffet. Low and behold the rest of the pizza was gone after i finished my three pieces. So i requested another Bbq pulled pork pizza and he told me that he made one and he wasn't gonna make another. Variety is slim when you have two spinach, two pepperoni, and a Bbq chicken pizza that I know sat untouched when the other Bbq pizza was out. He then made the excuse that there isn't room on the buffet, i told him "well I can definitely start piling pizza on plates to make room for the pizza, because there's obviously a demand for something you refuse to make, or you can just make another pizza as requested". He told me that if I do that then he will make me leave. Poor customer service in the service industry is not the best business model, so i just requested my money back for refusal of service. Hands down the best cici's pizza I've been too in decades. Reminded me of when I was a kid. Quality pizzas, made to order, hot, fresh and with courtesy. The restaurant and restrooms were clean and orderly and staff kept pace with rush. You can tell the managers have put together quality staff that care and it shows. Excellent job. read more

So about a week later we order from here and it was kind of blah. We ordered 4 pizza to try. Just your standard stuff like pepperoni, beef, cheese stuffed crust and even a Mac and cheese. The pizza is definitely low quality. It's not bad but nothing there encourages me to want to go back. A friend of my son said the Mac and cheese pizza was the bomb. Me and my posse were exploring Denton this weekend. For lunch, we decided to try out a CiCis here. From the get go, we see a nice unique buffet set up with a wide selection of pizzas. The staff there was very courteous and friendly. They even offer a better drink selection. The only thing missing from their salad bar was the bacon bits, but other than that, their food was delicious overall. Just goes to show that every CiCis location varies. When I was in high school I used to love Cici's. At some point this love has gone away. The only reason that I'm giving Cici's 2 stars is for price, but it's probably ironic that the price affects the quality, which affects my overall rating much more. Call me a Pizza Snob (Pizza Snob is actually a great pizza place!), but all the pizza at Cici's tastes the same. Not sure how that is possible, but it is. You can tell that the ingredients are not fresh and they are just poping them out as quickly as they can. If you are more concerned with quantity over quality than you might enjoy their pizza. In addition to the pizza there is pasta and a salad bar. When I visited, the pasta was hard from sitting there forever and the alfredo sauce had developed some type of outer layer of brownness. I can't comment on the taste bc I didn't feel like going to the hospital. Staff wasn't rude, but not exactly friendly. There were multiple tables that were not bussed and had mounds of uneaten crust on plates. My kids did like the dessert, but it just tasted like overly sweetened bread. All the food is covered so an employee must get the food for you, which I think is very smart. It's much better than it was over 17 years ago or so when I last tried it but the pizza is still not very good, the chicken on the chipotle chicken pizza I had was cold. Really friendly staff and definitely helpful though. The pizza is less greasy than it used to be, the restaurant is far more clean and kept up with than it previously was, and the staff seems more pleasant as well. There are many bad reviews about this cicis but people forget that almost everyone in the town of denton come here especially on weekends and they expect the best quality all the time. Do you ever stop to notice how busy it is? I have been here so many times and especially on busier nights, you can see the workers trying hard to keep up with Denton customers. Needless to say there's always a bunch of fat people/ fat families who basically eat the whole buffet on their first trip to the hot line. Well of course there's gonna be less and less pizza. I have seen countless people every time I go, take almost half of the pizza and stacking it all on their plates just to see that they leave most of their food uneaten and many many crusts. How inconsiderate to waste so much food like that. What a shame. Also, i have noticed that management is a tad bit better than about a year ago, when Michael was GM, he was very rude at every visit I made to the front. I haven't been here in a couple of years. Needless to say, this Cicis location is not the same anymore despite having been remodeled. Employees used to greet you with a smile when you walked in. Now we were greeted by the long face of the cashier who looked extremely tired and uninterested in the customers. I asked her if they offered student discounts, and she managed to just nod her head without speaking a word. When I asked her how much the discount was she responded "a dollar": the first and final words she had spoken to us since we arrived. Now to the food: no cherry tomatoes for the salad, chicken noodle was cold and bland, pizza was dry and they wouldn't make more until the ones on the counter ran out. It is more on the greasy side, but you got to love the variety of pizzas and cicis ability to create custom orders too. I love that this particular cicis in denton has brownies, cinnamon rolls, and the apple and Bavarian pizza ( some places don't have all of these options). If you are student organization too, they will hook you up with a fundraiser! It's been YEARS since I have been to this location. It looked very different than from when I was in High School, LOL. The place was clean and somewhat busy when I brought my kids here for dinner on Wed, 1/18. We were greeted quickly, and nicely. I took my kids through the buffet letting them pick and choose what they wanted. The salad bar was stocked and fresh, and clean, and the pizza's and pasta's were fresh as well. I did notice this location had soup next to their pasta's which was a huge win for my daughter as that seems to be all she eats. (she's 5) For $5.99 to feed myself, and $2.99 to feed each of my kids I felt like that was a heck of a deal. After reading some of the other reviews that seemed to be more negative I felt led to share some positive feedback. I met another mother/friend of mine here with her two children as well. We had to visit the restrooms a couple of times, and even those were clean. I cannot complain about the taste of the pizza either. I didn't eat one bad slice. The Jalapeno pepperoni was my personal favorite. My son and his friend asked for a special pizza and they made it right up for them. (Macaroni and cheese pizza! Came in today with my friend. Me and him usually go to other pizza joints in the area but this Cici's prove to be my favorite for its price. The manager (think his name was TJ?) checked up on all the tables and made sure everything tasted great - and it did. Cici's Pizza in Denton today was definitely a "meh" to "alright" experience for the average person, but I would definitely not recommend it to someone who has been in the foodservice industry for longer than 20 minutes, as there are things you may witness that would horrify you. I'll start off by saying the hot food was kept hot, and with the high output of food, was always fresh. This is about their own saving grace compared to the rest of the visit. As we walked in, a good portion (at least 75%) of the unoccupied tables still had dirty plates and cups on them. I was slightly miffed at the idea that I may have to clean off a table for my family to sit, but thankfully there was one where we wanted to sit that was clean. After we received our drink cups, a busser came out, and slowly started to work his way around the dining room. There was no ice in the fountain, so I had to inform the staff of this. Around 10 minutes later, someone finally came out to refill the machine. I understand that sometimes, back-of-the-house operations can be hectic, but with about 4 hours before closing time, and the front not being busy (about 20% full), this was questionable on the part of the staff. Considering this has been rainy season #2 for the area, with the off-bands of torrential rain from Hurricane Patricia, I wasn't entirely surprised that the ceiling would be leaking, as it was tonight. There was a ceiling leak right above the salad bar, as evidenced by the vegetable inserts (round metal pans used commonly to house soup or other liquid food items) sitting on the bar to catch the drips. What's the problem with that? Well, nothing, if there wasn't any food in the salad bar, and especially not any open items that could be contaminated by who-knows-what coming from the ceiling leak. Yet, lo and behold, one side was kept empty save for the packets of crackers, then the squeeze bottles of dressings, and right on the corner nearest the drip (in the splash zone) was the black olives. The drips were in more than one spot as evidenced by the salad bar sneeze guard, and some were right above the black olives. Who knows how far the leak dripped onto the rest of the cold bar over the course of the day? A food service manager would have definitely closed down the cold bar. That's a hazard for the health of the customers. One of the gals working there was doing some cleaning of the hot line, including picking up the dropped silverware from the floor, wiping down the customer side of the hot line, and tidying up the back side. I did not see her wash her hands from the time she picked up the silverware off the floor to the time she continued wiping the line (you know, where people GET THEIR FOOD?!?). There isn't a handwashing sink anywhere to be seen behind the cold and hot lines. Where is it in the back? I don't know, but I know she didn't go there. I've also witnessed this same gal playing with the back of her shirt (looked like she was picking a wedgie at first, but was not the case) before continuing her task of wiping down. I lost my appetite afterwards. If you mess with your clothes, your hair, touch your face, *anything* like that, you wash your hands. This is one of the cardinal rules of the foodservice industry, and something that was blatantly violated tonight. Half of the games worked, which is unfortunate because that's a big draw for folks with kids. The hallway to the bathrooms were flooded. I am unsure if this was due to the rain or an issue with one of the restrooms, but the manager seemed to be taking on this issue by himself, with mopping the hallway. He really needs to understand delegation of tasks. The gal who was not washing her hands could have done this job, then afterwards, he could have tasked her to wash her hands for 30 seconds with hot water and soap. Overall, it was a disturbing experience. If the front of the house had these issues, I am afraid of what the back of the house looks like. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone until some serious retraining of the staff takes place. Wash your hands, kids. read more
