Based on the last two delivery orders.. #1 - Attached is a photo of $9 worth of tortilla soup. Note the two microscopic avocado slices, if you can't see them - don't panic, your eyes are fine they are that small. Soup was about as meh as it gets. I added an obscene amount of hot sauce and it was much less "bleh".. there wasn't very much chicken at all. I was irritated by this order, and was going to leave this review - but I was sick at the time with a sore throat and had high hopes for some tortilla soup, and was in a bad mood so I thought maybe it was me not them, until this next order... #2 - Food came almost an hour late past the recommended delivery time, parts of the order were incorrect (it was just the side orders so not the biggest deal but annoying nonetheless), and all the food was cold!! The chicken floutas were about the same quality as frozen grocery store ones. The cheese enchiladas tasted bland and the tortillas tasted like they were 5 years old and were dry.. maybe that's because they were cold though. Cheese enchiladas are one of those foods that is just barely tolerable when cold, so that could play into it. (Not to mention in every delivery we've done - they food just comes in their containers, they don't give you a bag. So the poor delivery guy has to hand you each container by hand and it's super awkward and hard to carry. When you have like 4 large containers per order because it's divided up, plus the bags of chips, salsa, sauces, beans on the side and all that, you have to do a weird balancing act with this stack of food - why can't they put all that in a bag? Dropped in for a quick lunch while in Tulsa and have to admit I can't wait for them to come to OKC. Great hospitality, great environment and the food was incredible. A little pressed for time but it was no problem being seated and waited on promptly. Chips and fresh salsa werebrought to the table but they do not offer "complimentary" tortillas or queso. It is however available. The menu is loaded with options and includes daily lunch specials, even on the weekends. I picked the green chili pork tacos. They came with a side of retried beans and rice. The tacos were slightly on the dry side, which was surprising. Pork tends to dry out if cooked to long or left to simmer for an extended period of time. I'll let you draw your own conclusion there... The rice and beans were ok, what you would expect. My dad ordered a tostada like plate that did not include a side but had a very generous amount of food. The chicken in his dish was very good and well seasoned. Even though the pork was on the dry side, I hope to have another opportunity to revisit Chuys in the future. I've eaten at a few Chuy's in the states but Tulsa's location even beats out the original in Austin!!! Food is fresh, tasty and innovative! I have fallen in love with their sauces! The roasted shredded chicken was savory and perfectly cooked. I like how the corn tortilla chips are not extra thick and greasy. I enjoy both types of their rice & beans. Everything I've eaten at Tulsa's Chuy's has been truly delicious. I'm dreaming of eating their veggie/chicka-boom enchiladas and customizable stuffed Chile relleno again. I definitely vibe the quirky ambiance. I even love the outdoor patio landscape! I'm not sure why the food at this Chuy's tastes sooooo far superior then the other Chuy's but if I had to guess you got an amazing Chef working on Thursday nights. Keep up the great work! Tulsa's 71/169 location: Menu seemed to have been scaled down to reflect the recent pandemic. It is missing A LOT of their once favorite entrees. Waitstaff was limited, but was doing her best under the circumstances of a failihng A/C system and there was a lot of food splatter in the cubicles in the bar not to mention the wall decor was starting to fall off the walls. read more

My husband and I found ourselves out this direction over the weekend (around 1 on Saturday) and decided to give "the new Chuy's" a try. It was busy, but thankfully no wait. The staff was attentive and the food came out fast. The hostess stand had like 5 people working up there so I guess they were expecting a rush pretty soon. They asked if we wanted to sit in the bar to watch the game (no thanks) or if we wanted to sit outside (the patio didn't look covered, and i'm fair, so no thank you). After hearing "no thank you" 2 times the hostess looked a little offended - we just wanted a 2 person table INSIDE in the regular area. Sorry to be such a pain. Thankfully that was the only downside of the experience. We were sat in the "chandelier room" in a 2 person booth. This location seems to be chopped up a little more than the other Tulsa one, but maybe i'm wrong. I saw a large waiting area inside and out (bonus!), a bar, chandelier room, tortilla/palm tree room, hubcap room...not sure if there is a private room, didn't make the full tour. Our server came over and introduced herself and sped off to get our drinks. Another server delivered chips and salsa immediately after the first one left. Hubby and I both ordered the same thing: Fajita Chicken Soft Tacos. They came out good and stuffed, with guacamole and shredded cheese on the side. TONS of refried beans and rice, the portions looked so much bigger than the one near Cinemark. Everything tasted fresh, we were both highly satisfied with our meals. Our server brought us several refills, before we were even finished with the first ones, and a to-go cup for me. Side note - there is a family bathroom for those with little ones, or anyone that needs assistance. Overall, friendly and fast service, and really good food. This is our first time dining here. The ambiance looks really cool. Elvis memorial right when you enter and just an overall, funky vibe. We got seated in the bar, which has plenty of seating and is very colorful. Explaining that it is our first visit, our server, Elizabeth, has been a rock star, explaining the menu and flavors and even going as far as to explain be sauces and bring out a platter that let us sample the tastes and heat levels for our sauces. I love funky and cool and this location certainly fits the vibe. Think Tex mex meets hippie is how it feels to me. Haha. This is my new favorite for Mexican food. Yes, I know it's a chain, but IT'S SO GOOD!!! The salsa is amazing, chips are thin and crispy, and the drinks are strong. Also, ask for the creamy avocado ranch to dip your chips in, it's heavenly and good on almost anything. My favorite dish is the Baja Tacos. When she arrived she went in to get order and stood around for awhile because a host never did show up. She finally walked back and found a server to ask for the order and first thing out of his mouth with a rude attitude was to tell her "patience is a virtue". And still didn't offer any help, only to tell her she had to go back to her car and call in and wait. For no hostess to answer the phone. By this time she could see the order in the window and asked the manager who finally came out, but he refused telling her she had to go back to the front and wait, when they were both standing there while he was talking down to her and looking at her like she was stupid or something. Also cloth napkins people....the cost isn't too much considering what paper waste does to our planet and cloth napkins are just better, classier, more upscale. $20 for a couple of bites could use the cloth napkins to wipe the egg from my face. Food & service was good. Why they didn't get 5 Stars from me, was the hostess was sitting on the bench when we arrived then jumped to quickly get to the stand when we opened the door. Instead of acknowledging us immediately she just looked at her sitting chart like she was doing something really important. So my recommendation to this restaurant would be, if it is slow the staff should be cleaning. When guests arrive greet them immediately with a smile and a welcoming statement. We ordered takeout here that was the same as our regular order for dine in. They charged us $15 for queso the take out worker wanted to charge more for the chips. We usually get fajitas for two and queso, total is well under $50 before the tip. We were floored when the takeout total come to $76 and we didn't even get the full order of fajitas. The girl that brought the food out was awful to say the least and held her hand out and waited to indicate she wanted a tip. I visited Chuy's with some colleagues. I was told they had a good vegetarian/vegan menu. When I asked the waitress, she said it didn't exist. I ordered the guacamole tacos without cheese. I almost broke a tooth twice when biting into the soft tacos because fragments of the avocado seed somehow ended up in the guac within the taco. Saturday lunch in south (west) Tulsa. Barely an available seat. Our first visit to Chuy's. It's almost overwhelming. The menu is huge, the place was way noisy. So many sauces, so little time! Our salvation was our awesome waiter, Grant. And he was one busy guy. But he gave us a brief history of the chain (in their 35th year) and brought us a "first timers" rainbow plate which is a circle of their various sauces. There were six or seven as queso was offered as well. Quite helpful. Hubby ordered the usual fajitas. He said they were good, complimented the chicken. He wasn't crazy about their fresh tortillas, but said he'd give them another try. They are thicker than what is usually served. I had one around the cheese of my enchilada and I liked it. Grant suggested I get my enchilada smothered in BoomBoom sauce for an up charge and it was a good choice over the Tex-Mex sauce on my combo plate #3. I enjoyed the ground sirloin taco but my crispy shell was a tad soggy from resting on the rice which I found to be a mushy mess. (We were not offered the green rice.) My taco, however, was enhanced w/ hubby's guac' from his condiments. I also snagged some of his pico which had a couple pieces of much needed cilantro. Otherwise I guess it was pretty plain. My charro beans were tasty with bacon and some cilantro. But they were barely warm. Cilantro was completely missing in the complimentary salsa which I'd describe as blender zapped pico. But the jalapeño in it was flavorful and spicy. I thought the house margarita was just fine. By 1:30 the place had fairly well cleared out. And the manager visited w/ us to give us our frequent customer cards; buy five entrees, get one free. And complimentary lunch queso cards. The staff was on point. Most plates were $9-$11, fajitas $13-$15 for one. Or you can add shrimp for $2. Three stars instead of two based on atmosphere, service and attitude. We'll go back with knowledge and try things from all those choices. read more

When I first had Chuys on McKinney Ave in the Big-D, I thought it was a revelation. Though it's been a couple years, I feel that the food is 4* there. Unfortunately this chain was not molded equally across all locations. Though Tulsa Hills location is within a mile of home. After 6-8 visits here, I'm afraid I've had better. The highs: - Great tortillas; - Good salsa / Mexi ranch - bomb for dipping; - Happy hour free queso at the bar (including ground beef) helps out ye olde wallet; - Serviceable baja shrimp tacos (but kinda small portion); - Free push pops for the kiddos; and - Overall the hosts/ management aim to please (and gotta give them their due for ushering hundreds of patrons through almost every day). The Lows: - The rest of the food is very hit or miss. Obv Mahogany-chefs are not serving the food. But I've gotten cold plates/ overcooked enchiladas, and *undercooked chicken* on dinner salad. - Disappointed they don't feature more choices: I.e., regular steak menu items (they do feature steak fajitas and 1-2 derivative menu options; also - no slow cooked pork on a regular basis). - Tortilla chips are nothing great; - The crowds, esp. on weekends (not Chuy's fault); - Extremely variable service. May be a reflection of ^ last point above, but two times ago, I got the indignant guy who blew off the items needed for the kids; with a 4 y.o. and a 2 y.o., that makes life really tough on us. - Our usual MO is to come with family, creating the dreaded table for 6-8 (including a highchair). The staff has acted bamboozled trying to figure out how to seat us in the middle of the back dining room. Surely groups is a common problem... but we've had a few head scratching moments standing/ watching the staff try to solve the advanced trigonometry problem of how to make the designated table work. [I'd rather they sort that while we are waiting at the front; *not while holding 1-2 hungry kids and watching them work through it]; I've endured a couple 1* service experiences here. Taken me awhile to work up my gumption and try again, bc hey - it's close and the Mrs. and the kids love Mexican. I'd recommend Los Cabos, Cancun or Calaveras instead. read more

The last time I went to one was probably 5 or 6 years ago after a friend's wedding, and again I thought it was okay. Had tried to go the the Tulsa locations a few times, but the long wait times just weren't worth it. Finally went for an early dinner and was thoroughly unimpressed. It was loud, busy and dirty. Our server was a bit all over the place. I ordered one of their frozen margaritas and got a pretty short poor. The lady who delivered my drink, knew, but placed it right in front of me and left before I could object. By the time our server came around to get our order, it wasn't worth fighting about since I was thirsty and had already drank about half of what I was given. While I appreciate the fact that you can try whatever or how many salsas you want, I didn't think any of the ones we tried were particularly good. Plus our server brought out multiples of the few we requested, crowding our table by the time our meals arrived. I had a combo that included a taco, a chalupa and some enchiladas. By the time we got our food, the meat had soaked through the taco shell making it a bit of a mess. The chalupa was more of a tostada. Used to go to this place pretty regularly and hadn't been there in a couple of years. Probably will not return based off this evening. After deciding to go out to eat, the wife suggested Chuys at tulsa hills and so that's where we went. We arrived and the parking lot was only half full so my family of five was excited not to have to wait long. We walked into the empty lobby and were greeted by two hostesses and told it was going to be a 15 minute or so wait... we said okay and took a seat to wait. Over the next half an hour 15 other party's ranging from 1-4 people each party came in and were seated within minutes. After 20 minutes of watching others get seated I went up and was told they are clearing off a table for you and it should be soon. I figured that they just wanted to put us in a large table rather than pushing smaller tables together... we wait another 10 minutes and finally get to be seated... we walk past multiple tables that are sitting either empty or unbussed all of which would have sat my family easily only to find out that they had pushed multiple tables together for a party of 5, which could have been done half an hour previously. This of course ruined my mood and when we sat down and were sitting for and realized that they have gotten rid of half their menu including the favorite items we used to get. We grumbled a bit about it but decided we were here and were going to eat but they decided that we didn't need silverware and they came to inform us that they were out of napkins. The service was just so terrible that I just left money on the table to pay for the drink and tip the server for their time. Bad service and inattentive management. We went across the street to Abuelos and were seated quickly with attentive service that seemed to actually want us there. This Chuys is now on my do no go there ever list. read more

I really wanted there to be a four star or higher opportunity here but there were just too many things that downgraded the experience. First - the positives. The booth was comfy. My taco salad was pretty good. (I ordered it with grilled chicken). The server was friendly. What kept me this from a great experience was this. First, when bragging on your free queso bar please make it a good experience. The queso was like water and the taste was something reminiscent of smoked burnt cheesy water. And I had to scrape the bottom of the metal tin just to fill the tiny carafe with the liquid. Then the meat (beef) was nothing more than what I could get at Taco Bell. Next, when we got our tab - the waiter never showed us a drink menu so when he suggested a sangria swirl we thought it sounded good. But, we would have NEVER said yes if we knew the 6-8oz swirl was ten dollars!! I assumed the thick specialty glass was a take home gift for that price - but no. We were told to leave the drink glass. Lastly, our server was so busy he didn't really service our table. He was friendly but obviously caught in the weeds. So, end result ... I drive across the river next time I'm in town and get Mexican elsewhere. My advise? Skip it. read more

Could be just this location and the fact that we visited on a busy night around the Christmas holiday but definitely wasn't up to par with my expectations of a normal visit to Chuy's.
