Average chain restaurant but pretty good for a Tex-Mex place and a good value for the money. Nothing special about the menu - not huge but with all the standard tex-mex items. The chips were, however, outstanding. Crisp and warm with a nice spicy salsa. Tacos were good - nice filling, good cheese, fresh lettuce but needed a bit more zest. Soup was okay but needed more spice and temperature. Good drinks. Excellent smiling service. Comfortable seating. Reasonable sound level. Not expensive and we didn't leave hungry. read more

Okay, the wait was about 45 minutes, which isn't the end of the world, but honestly, it's just tex-mex people! It's good, but not necessarily worth the 45 minute wait. The parking lot was also packed, which complicated things. They had no draft beer, which I found disappointing. My wife liked her margarita (it was one of the fancier ones, not the cheapest). Our server was socially awkward, and had the unfortunate distinction of being present when not needed, and absent when needed. I suspect that this may not be her calling in life. However, the food was tasty. I had a burrito that was huge (enough that I took half home for dinner). My wife had some kind of boom-boom chicken enchiladas. She liked them, but it was VERY spicy. Damn good Tex-Mex chain. Fantastic margaritas. The bar is plastered with pictures of dogs. They have an Elvis shrine. Free nacho bar during happy hour is awesome. Fresh ingredients. The only issue I had was the Hatch sauce. I love heat. Love it. Heat without flavor though is just silly and that's what the house sauce is, flavorless hot sauce. Everything else is fantastic though. Summary: This place has a lot of personality, and a lot of food. Truth be told, the nacho bar brings me to Chuy's. The food is exactly what you might expect from Tex-Mex. Inconsistency with food keeps it from scoring higher in my book, but does not keep me from coming back! I've had birthdays, celebrations, and parties at Chuy's, and it's probably because of the nacho bar. I find myself ordering an entree even though I know I'd never finish it, probably because of the nacho bar. Even if you don't believe in Tex-Mex food, you can probably come to Chuy's for the nacho bar (and a beer). The number of toppings in the nacho bar is what makes it great. You have your crispy light chips, cheese, salsa, meat, etc - can't go wrong there. About half the ingredients that may be on some entrees can be found in the nacho bar. This means two things - first, you can get full off the nacho bar; second, it's makes the entree a little underwhelming when it comes out. The entrees are big. I find myself getting the fajita plates a lot because of some misguided belief that I should try to get best bang-for-buck despite already being 90% full by the time the plate shows up. When next day's lunch finally shows up, I get a mixed reaction. I've gotten dry chicken before. I've had more luck with the beef, but still, consistency is not great. Service is generally friendly and getting a table is never a problem at around 5PM. However, sometimes food gets a little cold by the time they wait for a full table's food to arrive. Went there on a Friday night with family and the wait wasn't that bad. I don't have anything too horrible to report, but I don't have anything amazing to say about it either. The food was nothing special, but they did have a nice salsa bar and our server was friendly. We walked out smelling like horrible Mexican food for at least a week...the smell wouldn't go away - which was gross. We won't be back, as we feel that there wasn't anything amazing that would make us go back...especially when there are better Mexican places to choose from that are close by. read more

We tried this place for the first time and it was all around wonderful! I got a huge 12 inch burrito and you can choose from like 7 different special sauces to put on your burrito for no added charge (if you pick from the burritos bigger than you face) I got the chicken one with the tomatillo sauce. Our waitress Emily was exceptional too. She was very friendly and personable but not overly personal. She always had a smile on her face but wasn't fake either! And she brought everything out in perfect time even though she was busy. She was always there to fill our chips and our waters and our food came out in good time. I didn't feel like I had to wait too long for anything and we went during lunchtime on Sunday on Cinco de Mayo of all the days! So it was a great experience and we will go there again. And it seemed pretty authentic to me but I'm probably not the greatest judge of that!! Also it's Tex-mex I think it just says Mexican on Yelp not that that matters too much. read more

I visited Chuy's for the first time yesterday. I went to the Kenwood location. The seats in the interior were not the cleanest so I decided to order to go. I did like how colorful and playful the interior design was. Anyway, I ordered the vegetarian combo meal to go which took 40 minutes to come out. After 30 minutes a young man asked if I wanted a drink while I waited, he didn't specify if it was on the house or not so I declined. Finally, after the long wait for my 2 item to go order I placed the bag of food in my passenger seat and as soon as I did salsa was everywhere. I was already a bit frustrated for the long wait so that was the icing on the cake for me. Nevertheless, I went back in to get napkins and cleaned out the salsa. Once I got home and tried the food I was very underwhelmed. I LOVE Mexican food and very recently went to Mexico and the food was not up to par with other restaurants I've visited that serve similar food. I could not finish the platter with the mini burrito *i forget the formal name* but the fried stuffed pepper with cheese was okay. All in all I did like the interior design, I just with the place was cleaner. It was a few families in the restaurant so that may account for the messy seats. The customer service was okay. And the food was just okay too. I would not go back to this restaurant. read more

It's loud in noise and decoration. Kind of like the Friday's of Mexican food. It promises a lot, but seems to fall short for me. I find it to be rather forgettable and it sinks into the background of chain Mexican blah for me. It might be a notch above the typical El Rio Ranche Grande whatever type place that slops pre-made, warmed up, non-descript food onto your plate. I was hoping this would elevate itself at least on the margarita front, but I was let down. Strangely when I was at a Chuy's in Texas, I actually enjoyed the food and experience. I guess it just doesn't translate well to Cincinnati, or the bar for Mexican food is much lower here. read more

I've been here three times and been disappointed three times. The food is OK. Tortillas are good and the chips are light (but not sturdy enough for dipping). Salsa is watery and everything else is bland. Service has always been pleasant enough, but came with a group for lunch and it took two hours. I ate here for the first time, with a large group with a reservation on a Tuesday night. I loved the decor, the ceiling with the hubcaps on it was unique! Our waiter Elliott did a great job serving 27 women with separate checks!! The chips & salsa & cheese dips were good, my quesadilla was OK - not much in it. We often go to the Hosbrook Road location in Cincinnati, and while we do enjoy some menu items (particularly the chips, salsa & creamy jalepeno dip), we have noticed a deterioration in the quality of service. In fact, we just found out that our favorite server, Leon, has even left! We also have 2 young children, so when we do attempt to dine out, we know there's a shelf life. Unfortunately, on our last visit the food took much longer than usual and when it finally did arrive, my crispy tacos were broken to the extent that I should've just ordered a taco salad instead! We realize things do happen, but since this isn't the first time, they just seem to happen way too frequently at this location. If you are on a time limit and expect good service, then this probably isn't your place. read more

This is first time I've been to the Chuy's in Cincinnati, and it was great! The food - while not the best I've ever had - wasn't bad at all. I really like the queso and guacamole. What really wowed us was our server. She was so outgoing and friendly! She completely made our Chuy's experience great. There are very few times that you have a server that really makes such a positive impact on your dining experience, and both Chuy's I've been to (Cincinnati and Nashville) I've had servers that were some of the best I've ever had. I first visited Chuy's in Houston Texas and I thought it was very good Tex-mex food, especially the ranch jalapeno dipping sauce. When they opened one on Montgomery road, I took my wife and she also thought the food was better than most Americanized Mexican restaurants.that seem to come and go, on an all too frequent basis. On Saturday I thought I might have to write off Chuy's because the service, which is normally excellent, was terrible. We placed our drink order and food order and then our Waitress disappeared for 25 minutes. People around us were seated and served so I decided to pay for.the drinks and leave. The bartender asked us to stay while he got the Manager. Rubin the Manager was outstanding in how he handled the situation by personally taking care of us. It ended up that our Server had a health issue and she did return to explain what happened. I was very happy we did not leave and that we gave Rubin and Chuy's a second chance. I will go back to Chuy's because the food and service and management are all top notch. read more

Tonight we came in to have dinner with friends and their kids at 6 p.m. Chuy's is pretty much the same aesthetically from place to place (I have been in Nashville too) - it is what it is - a Mexican food chain. But, I must say that this location is a bit nicer and brighter inside. Eric was our server and he was great - helpful, accurate, helped make recommendations, and helped us benefit from the 'happy hour' and free queso! The food was really good and the kitchen was fast. The server really did a great job, especially for a big group. My only complaint was the hostess (Reagan) gave some attitude when we told her we had a party of 8 people and slapped menus down and gave a look. Later when we asked her for a spoon, she said we would need to ask our waiter...? What? Not really the kind of service we experienced with the rest of the staff - so, I wouldn't judge it on one employee. Likely, one off. Everyone enjoyed their meal, including half-priced margaritas, and pretty tasty queso. If you go, ask for Eric (great server) and go at happy hour - good stuff happens then and makes the experience more affordable. read more

I've been to Chuy's several times now and it's always been a good experience! My absolute favorite dishes are the Mexi-cobb salad with the jalapeno ranch dressing and the chicka chicka boom boom! Their margaritas have been good so far! I've tried the traditional margarita and the strawberry. Both quite tasty. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating. I'm indifferent about the bright and crazy decor, it's not my style. Although, I can appreciate any business that brings Elvis Presley into the picture. The only negative (for me) was the wait staff always offers queso. Either I missed it on the price list or it's simply not listed, but the queso was more expensive than I expected. read more

So after 2 completely mediocre meals with my wife, and then 2 fine Tex-Mex meals with others, I was thinking to myself: hey, this Chuy's is really better than the prison food/swill that literally ALL the greater Cincy low-rent Mexican chains offer up. The Tex-Mex/ Americanized Mexican food available in this town by all these poseur chains and their cheap, inferior ingredients is frankly, an insult to the taste buds. I was so convinced Chuy's had eclipsed the low bar set in this town, that I insisted we go back for a date lunch late one afternoon last week, and we were rewarded with an almost empty restaurant to enjoy. Unfortunately, that elbow room and a cold Pacifico were the highlights. The Good: Chuy's homemade chips are the BOMB, light and airy and thin, literally perfect. And their salsa is the best of any of the chains by far. The Bad: We both ordered enchiladas with a red sauce, and ironically they don't make a red sauce that has any semblance of a traditional enchilada sauce, i.e., tomato based with some salt and garlic and a little fresh peppers or tomatillo blended in. The Ugly: Our lunches were pre-made enchiladas and sat under a heat lamp; we were served within 5 minutes of ordering and the sauce (a strange semi-mole concoction) was burnt onto the tortilla and dried to a crust--- unappetizing. I was caught so off guard by this switch back to Crappy Chuy's that I lost my way and did not even complain or ask for the manager to discuss the situation. Not sure that I ever want to go back to this Chuy's again, or for that matter, any of them.... I'm going to give it 3 stars for 2 prior good meals and the free salsa and chips that are admittedly excellent ---but---the bar for decent Tex-Mex in Cincinnati is set very low, once again. read more

I love chuys. Their margaritas are the best around. I've had many things off of their menu and it's hard to pick one that stands out because they're all good. I really love the flour tortillas. I think they are made in house and they actually have flavor and are a little thicker than any I've had before. I usually get the fajitas or one of their big ass burritos. When I get a burrito it's either grilled chicken or grilled steak. The chicken is very flavorful as its marinated in beer and never too dry. The atmosphere is pretty cool and we usually sit at the bar. If you bring in a picture of your dog or cat you get a free appetizer! The way the building is built they were unable to have anything on tap so all you can get is bottled beer but I'd go for the margaritas before the beer here. I love Tex Mex, and this is some of the best I've had in Cincinnati and the service is WAY above great with friendly helpful staff. (We had the pleasure of being served by a young woman named Amy) The enchiladas were great, with pulled white meat chicken that tasted definitely fresh, not frozen and covered with a really great queso, which I chose from a wide selection of sauces. The sides of refried beans and Mexican rice were so far above expectations that I cleaned my plate despite the large portions. Left there definitely having overeaten but it was so good I couldn't stop. There were lots of interesting entrees to choose from, so don't mistake my choice of chicken enchiladas as indicative of a limited menu. I just love enchiladas Definitely going back again read more

I went to Chuy's with a friend this past Friday evening around 6pm. The wait was about 30 minutes. Despite the large crowd waiting there was plenty of waiting room, plenty of places to sit down and drinks offered during the wait. The atmosphere is upbeat and the service was excellent. We went during happy hour and was surprised to find out there was free queso for their awesome tortilla chips. Seriously the best chips and salsa I have ever had. I crave it. The food, overall, is good too. I enjoyed something new this time - the chicken flautas. The sauce was perfect and the shells fresh. I find that the entire experience itself is what keeps the smile on my face on my way out the door and keeps me wanting to come back for more. read more

Chuy's is awesome, but I am biased because I'm from Austin. This location is very good, although the spiciness is tamed down for Ohioans. The service could be better, its not up to the TX locations standards. But, the food is 10x better than most other Mexican joints in the area (on par with 2 others, none are better). Yeah, the food has, in the words of Ohioans, "a bit of a kick", but there are less spicy options, just ask! (Deluxe tomatillo is an awesome option) Everything here is made fresh daily, the sauces and tortillas are from scratch, the chicken is roasted and pulled. The margaritas are made with actual lime juice, but get the mexican martini instead of the house marg - perfect... and although not a fan of fruity margs, theirs are pretty kick-ass. read more

The best thing here is the chips & salsa. They are made in house. Crispy & satisfying. The salsa is really good, but the best dipping sauce is the creamy jalapeno. I can never stop eating it. We popped in here for dinner / happy hour on Friday. Having never been here, we weren't sure if it would be packed but perhaps because it was Good Friday, we strolled right in. We opted to sit in the bar area, which is open seating. Dave was our waiter, and he was excellent. He steered me away from ordering what I chose initially, even bringing out a sample of the meat later so I could confirm his opinion. He was on top of everything and lots of fun to chat with. We made it in before 7, so we had some of the free nacho bar, a nice perk. We ordered 2 entrees and had plenty of food, could have gotten away with one and the nacho bar. The drinks were excellent as well, we had the house margaritas and the house martinis, both freshly squeezed and quite tasty. We really enjoyed Chuy's and will certainly be back! read more

Chuy's is Mexi-American food... Definitely not authentic, but still pretty yummy! They bring out chips and salsa (salsa is usually really fresh and tasty), but request the Creamy Jalapeño sauce if they don't bring some bc that is delicious w chips. I usually get the chicken fajitas but they are a bit disappointing as the chicken is always really dry. They make their own tortillas and they are really thick... Too thick in my opinion!! With the dry chicken and the thick tortilla, it leaves something to be desired. This past time I switched it up and got the beef burrito. It was good but not great. Ground beef, refried beans and cheese in a big tortilla topped with any of their signature sauces. Their margaritas are tasty and priced well. They just make them in one of those big margarita machines, so don't expect anything life changing, but they have lots of flavors and they are pretty good! read more

At first I was a bit disgruntled for the service, but then I just sort of felt sorry for them. We had a big group and they decided to only let one server for our group. Not a great decision by management. So, service was slow. No one had water and when asked we were given pitchers and glasses to distribute ourselves. The food was good. Came for the first time with my family, my brother lives in Nashville and goes to the one there all the time, so he convinced us to go. The chips and salsa were pretty good, salsa had a little kick, which I like. I got the chicken fajitas and they were very good, couldn't eat them all. My husband got the steak burrito and he said it was amazing and one of the best burritos he has ever had! My 9 year old got the kids burrito which was enormous and he barely ate half of it! I have definitely had better Mexican in the Cincinnati are but I do like the atmosphere of Chuy's and we will be back! read more

Oh chuys!! What am I going to do with you? I really want to like this place so I gave it another shot, but this time at Kenwood. West Chester location has been less than good a few times in a row so I stopped going. Office moved to blue ash so why not try Kenwood location. Same order as always which they can't get the idea of substitution down right apparently. All I want is a big as your face burrito with rice instead of beans.... Inside the burrito!! Like each time in West Chester, the burrito comes out with no beans or rice inside just dry chicken. read more
