First time there, and I was so impressed. They have a free happy hour nacho bar mon-fri 4-7. Everything was delicious and impressively flavorful! I got the steak and chicken fajitas and my girlfriend got a beef burrito (which was huge) and we snacked on the nacho bar too. I wish I had taken pictures of our food for this review but we scarfed. Just found my new favorite tex mex joint! Every room is decorated different too. The room we were in had a bamboo ceiling and on my way out I saw another ceiling covered in shiny tire rims. The food is really yummy but the service is what stands out! The food is really delicious and more than you would expect from a chain tex-mex restaurant. A ton of options but not overwhelming. Bobby our server was the bomb dot com. What a fun friendly knowledgeable lovely man. His service was fast friendly and upbeat. When I was asking questions and took a minute to decide on my beer choice he didn't make me feel rushed or like I was wasting his time even though I was. He took the time to ask if we needed more chips and salsa instead of waiting until we ran out and just bringing more. I love that he didn't waste them. If you go to this location I'd highly recommend sitting in his station! What a fun experience! The decor is also beautiful and bright and fun. Just like Bobby!! I really enjoyed dinner tonight! All around bad service, from the moment we walked in the door and the hostess ignored us for a good five minutes. It was a Wednesday night so they weren't too busy but like my husband said, not one person working there had a smile on their face. It was like they would have rather been anywhere else. The margarita I ordered was good. As well as the chicken quesadilla (although it looked more like soft tacos). My husband said his steak fajitas were OK. Doubt we will be going back due to the poor service which is unfortunate as we live in the area and are always looking for new places. read more

My wife and I like going to Chuy's every so often. There are some good vegetarian options, the service is prompt, and the complementary salsa is delicious. Addendum: the creamy jalapeno dip is awesome, and the best part is- that it is complementary. I also feel grateful that they always accommodate our vegetarian modifications to their menu items. read more

Ordered Chilli Rellenos with shrimp. Could not wait for that soft, luscious, cheesy soft pepper. Standard cooking method is to roast the skin and remove it before batter & fry. When it arrived I had to use a knife to cut it. Skin on that barely cooked pepper. In addition, there was dried food/dirt from prior diners in the aluminum table top rim. I judge Mexican restaurants on their chile relleno preparation....chuy's fails major. It was like a Ky fried chicken, crispy, the chile was undercooked and tough and still had the skin it had unmelted cheese.. just very under cooked. and the crust was not a relleno , there was no egg in the batter for it to rise, very bad read more

Starting chronologically I was actually a really big fan of their (thin, crispy) chips and salsa and some sort of creamy jalapeño dip. Service was extremely quick so much so that it seemed the food was prepared in advance and perhaps simple assembled. Rice and beans were good. Guac had very little flavor and I'm a big quac person. Tacos (I got fajita chicken) were just ok at best. Not sure why it's fajita chicken when it was literally only chicken in the tacos other than the provided pico, lettuce, etc on the side. Perhaps fajita was supposed to have to do more with the flavor but that also didn't hold true as it was entirely flavorless. read more

Yes it's a chain and many of their dishes seem like generic Mexican food - reminiscent of Don Pablo's but they do have notable exceptions: their fried chicken is amazing. We are both in the service industry and were shocked that he wasn't offered a comped meal or even a free drink - very disappointed with a restaurant that usually impresses. Great service from the moment we walked in. Very friendly staff. Food was excellent and tasted better than all the other "authentic" Mexican Restaurants I have gone to over the years, which I do not enjoy. The chips/salsa are delicious. The chips are thin and fresh. The salsa is a tad watery, but is greatness. Has a bit of a kick to it. My wife and I got the "big as your face" burritos. They are huge and the fried beans inside are very creamy. Which is a big plus. The chicken tasted fresh and cooked like Chipotle cooks their chicken. The sauce we got was the Deluxe Tomatillo and was recommended by our server. Very good proportion of sauce and tasted excellent with the chicken. We got there right before Happy Hour and right before a huge rush of people. Our server was the only one working and ended up having 7-8 tables he had to manage by himself, but you wouldn't be able to tell as he was on point the entire time. read more

It pains me so much to rate Chuy's as 3 stars, but your experience 100% depends on your waiter/waitress. Chuy's is hands down the best Tex-Mex in Cincinnati. Multitudes of menu options, delicious drinks and bright, colorful decor. The first time I went for lunch, our waitress was extremely accommodating, sweet and conversational. Our food was cooked to perfection, our waitress got us more to take home, free of charge, and the atmosphere was electric. The second time around for lunch, our waiter was too busy to check in, didn't get our orders right and the restaurant was almost empty. If you do give it a chance, substitute the queso for the creamy jalapeño dip, you will not be disappointed; my mom takes it home to eat for the week it's so addicting. I hope they clear up the staffing issues because this place has the opportunity to be the best chain in Cincinnati. read more

Happy hour is M - F from 4 to 7, and I was pleased to be able to find a seat at the bar on the 2nd day after they first opened in Kenwood. The service was very fast for the drinks and the food, so that's a plus. The bartender was very helpful. However, when I first sat down, I smelled something unpleasant, as if the bar top had just been wiped with a sour rag. I can't stand that smell. Really kills the appetite. I stayed anyway, and reviewed the menu. Not as many choices as traditional Mex places, but decent choices for Tex Mex. None of the servers or bartenders were Mexican. Not sure if they had any in the kitchen. The size and price of the happy hr house margaritas was a little disappointing compared to a few other places I've been, and very weak. $4.25 for a 16 oz glass completely full of ice of course. I really liked the guacamole. Very fresh, and big chunks of avocado and not too much tomato, and not spicy or heavy with cilantro, which is perfect for me. I paid about $9 for a 4" tostada with a few small things pilled on top of it (they called it a chalupa), and a chicken soft taco, which was served a tiny scoop of guac, and no rice or beans. This seems quite expensive to me, compared to other ala carte menus I've seen at traditional Mexican restaurants. The chicken tasted fresh, but the whole meal was nothing spectacular. The decor was very colorful and fun and the place is very loud. Unfortunately, the number of stools at the bar was not numerous, so that means you constantly have servers and customers squeezing in and getting under your elbows, trying to put stuff on the counter and order drinks while you're trying to enjoy your dinner. I hate that. Reminds me of Don Pablos. The only other odd thing, which some people may really like -- instead of bringing chips and salsa to your table or bar location when you sit down, they have a free "nacho bar" during happy hour time Mon - Fri. You have to leave your coveted seat, and go over and stand in line at the nacho bar with other customers to sample it. They had some greasy ground beef, some salsa, and other sauces, and lots of chips. Problem is, the chips are so thin, they break every time you try to dip something, and they got soggy very fast. It's a novel idea, which some people and kids probably like, but I would rather just have thick chips brought to my table, lol. read more

Full disclosure: I went to college in Austin, TX so Chuy's is a big part of my cultural food identity. So I may be a little biased when I say that they are THE BEST Tex-Mex restaurant in Cincinnati (hands down). First of all, this restaurant is legit. If you are in Austin, and you go to Chuy's, this place has like an hour long wait all the time. It is crazy popular. And the one here, for some inexplicable reason, is relatively undiscovered so you can just walk right in and get a table! The atmosphere is so "Austin-y" and by that I mean that they stay true to their roots and keep it weird on the inside...bright colors, funny artwork, etc. The guacamole is no joke and the tortilla chips are crunchy, light, and not greasy like most chips are at Mexican restaurants in Cincinnati. I always get enchiladas, but honestly I've never had anything bad here. My best advice is to make sure you order a Shiner beer with your lunch or dinner so you get the full Austin, TX experience! read more

We went when it was national margarita day, and that was mistake #1. It is a big mexican restaurant, yet it was so packed that our group had to split up and evidentally didnt take reservations. When we did actually get food. It was just ok.And I thought that it was weird that they didnt have any white cheese. Everybody has white cheese??? It wasnt very memorable, although the decor definitely is! It has dogs doing all sorts of things. From working out as people to doing regular jobs and real pics of real dogs. The whole experience was a trip I couldve missed. It was my first time there, so I am glad that I went to say that i have gone. I plan on visiting every restaurant in Cincy, so check this one off my list. read more

My partner had been raving about Chuy's and their queso bar as he grew up with Chuy's in Texas and I was craving queso. We got there and were told that the queso bar was only on the weekends, bummer but oh well. Our server brought us salsa and it was white and frothy with bubbles, I'm pregnant and didn't even risk trying it. We told our waiter that the salsa didn't look right and instead of taking it off of our table she just left it. We ordered queso and our meals. I had the shrimp tacos and was under the impression the shrimp would be grilled (didn't state on the menu) and when I received my meal my shrimp were fried. I should have asked and it should have been clarified on the menu. Our server also never bothered to refill our drinks or ask us how our meal was until we were finished. I love Chuy's! First experience at Chuy's was a few years ago in Austin where it originated and I remember specifically being jealous that Cincy didn't have any establishments with the energy and great food this place offered. So excited that we got our own! I will get negatives out of the way first- their chips are fantastic, but can be a bit too salty after awhile and their margaritas are off somehow (not sure how they change the recipe, but it doesn't work for me). Other than that, I love their salsa, pico de gallo, creamy jalapeno sauce and fantastic enchiladas- Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is the Bomb! Great spice, great flavor, tender chicken. Superb! Husband loves the Steak Burrito. Savory and a huge portion. The vibe is lively and energetic. Servers are casual, friendly and attentive. It's a small place and can get noisy, but that kinda goes with the territory. There are booths in the bar that are comfortable and on a busy night, this is a good option versus a long wait for a table. It's generally not as noisy in the bar believe it or not. All in all, it's a really fun spot with great, consistent food that everyone who loves Mexican should try at least once!! read more

Came here somewhat randomly. I won a raffle for a free dinner for two - awesome! The place is tacky - but it's obvious and a choice for the decor. Apparently if you bring in a framed picture of your dog, which I can get behind. Came on a Sunday evening and it was pretty busy. Drinks are overpriced. $4.75 for a bottle of Corona is a bit much and nearly $10 for most margaritas. I had a glass of sangria for $6.79. Made in-house and good. You get ranch along with chips and salsa. Don't see that often, but who can complain about more ranch in the world? Ordered fajitas and chicken tacos. Rice was a bit bland. The steak for the fajitas was delicious! Best part of the meal. Food took a long time to come out but it was hot. Tortillas are handmade in house so that's nice. We sat in the bar area and the bartender was our server. He was very nice and knew what to do with our billing. Happy hour looks interesting - there's a free nacho bar apparently. Good food. I grew up in Texas AND lived in Austin for awhile, and this is authentic. I'm sure some Ohio reviewers won't get it (see below) I have been here twice, and while I enjoy the menu, I see the beginnings of a staff problem. First, the take-out proceedure needs a LOT of work. No one seems quite sure how to direct you. You have to wait by the hostess stand until one of the wait staff comes to take your order. You can't order at the bar. The first week everyone was cheerful and informed. The second, there were 4 kids working the hostess stand and none of them knew what was going on. One of the day managers came out while I was there to admonish them about their drawer being short for the second day in a row. I had been looking forward to Chuy's opening, and I will go back for the food, but please get some trainers in here so the service doesn't start to suffer. read more

The peppers were filled with fresh chicken, cheese and shrimp and coated in a delicious crisp, perfectly cooked batter. The sides of rice and beans could have been stand alone items. I have to eat gluten free and usually mexican food is fairly easy to do. I had a difficult time with the server. I initially asked for a gluten free menu (if one was available). The server told me anything could be made gluten free. So I ordered off the menu. After that he came back and brought the "gluten free" menu. There was such a limited selection it was ridiculous. Basically the corn tortillas, guac, and veggies/lettuce. So, I got guac/lettuce in a soft corn tortilla and veggies plain in a soft corn tortilla. I asked for a substitute of side salad since the rice &beans arent gluten free. The server needed extra reminder to bring it out snd when he did there was no dressing or offer of one. I still was charged regular price for this dried out crap of tortillas and guacamole. Never again! read more

I cannot vouch for the authenticity of this place, and I'm certainly aware that it's a national chain, not a charming family-run taqueria, but the food is delicious (chicken, especially, is of very high quality), the service is professional, and the place is immaculately clean. My friend ordered a skinny girl margarita thinking it was the one she had had before but one taste and she quickly realized it was not. Our waitress Annie was not the least bit friendly. My new go-to place for Mexican in Cincinnati! I have been twice, and the service and food, and atmosphere were exceptional. A great, not too big, Tex-Mex menu, and the decor of a roadside joint. Even for a chain, it's great quality and I haven't had to wait long. Beware on parking, it's fairly limited and there are signs prohibiting Chuy's guests from parking at adjacent businesses. The first time I went, I parked up the hill at the bank (which was closed for the day) at the corner of Kenwood and Hosbrook. Other than that crazy hassle, it's worth doing! read more

My favorite place to eat that's close to home. Make sure to order the creamy jalapeño dip to go with your chips. It is to die for! The steak burrito with tomatillo sauce is amazing. The wait staff is refreshingly nice and knowledgable about the menu. A very colorful and lively atmosphere. My only complaint is the wait time is usually at least an hour to get a table. First time at Chuy's for my family, wont be our last. Enjoyed the fajitas for 2 with my wife. Steak was tender, juicy and flavorful and went very well with all the trimmings (hot Re-fried beans and Spanish rice, a complete cold tray consisting of Guacamole, shredded lettuce, diced tomato/salsa and sour cream all arranged in a beautifully colorful presentation), Walked out fully satisfied. Appetizer Salsa and chips were what you would expect from a superior Mexican themed restaurant, chips were warm and crisp, Salsa was loaded with fresh diced chunks of tomato, not too hot but offered some bite.
