Sorry, I forgot to post my review from 2 weeks ago! This place is just like the one over Round Rock. I loved happy hour, even though the choices of margaritas for happy hour is slim pickins! They were delicious and affordable, not too strong and not too weak! My favorite part was the nacho car bar! Who needs to order a meal, when you can fill up on tostadas, salsa, carne molida, & chile con queso? But I decided to order dinner! I went for what I like, tacos de beef, you get 2 flour tortilla tacos filled with brisket, not carne asada, like the menu stated, and a side of frijoles charros, which were nice and spicy! I would order this again, but would go back just for the happy hour! Now I gave this place a 4 star rating, but it's not their fault they had a sassy, smart ass, pregnant waitress, otherwise I would have given them 3, because of her. She gave my friend attitude big time, which was uncalled for! And if I want to order a drink from the hot bartender, because you're too busy socializing with your Co-workers, then it's my perrogative, and my right, which you have no reason to flip your wig over that! read more

I've known about chuys since I was in high school in Austin tx. Was not a fan of it then and am still not a fan today. The only thing it has going for it is their jalapeño ranch sauce and their queso was pretty good. Anywho, ordered a quesadilla with chicken and it arrived with literally a couple tiny pieces of chicken and maybe a sprinkle of shredded cheese. I was so disappointed, this was not a quesadilla , they are supposed to be creamy and chewy with cheese. I sent it back and the GM said they would remake it. So it turned out, fixing the quesadilla included adding more chicken and NO cheese! I did not eat the dish and thankfully was comped. I mean there is never not an eventful time at Chuy's. The hostess was nice when we walked in and immediately sat us. There was so much going on when we sat down---a customer brought her dog in a stroller, waitresses dropping the table cleaning cloth on the ground and still picking them up to use and clean the table, waiters sliding across the back (due to greasy floor). I could go on about the things saw, but I won't lol. I'll just say it may only be safe to drink alky and a scoop of chips here. I tried the mango frozen mango margarita first but it had a very citrusy taste. When I let the waitress know, she tried to make me think it was that way due to it being sour mix. The place appears to be clean and bright. The service here was sort of average, my server seemed like she had something on her mind or just wasn't as pleasant. Might be that she seems to be one of the two servers for the bar area inside and outside. I didn't really see the other guy that often so not sure if he was even working in the bar area. just outside the bar area is a covered outdoor sitting area, which is good for nice days. There is also a nacho bar where you can get your tostadas and top it with the variety of toppings they have which is nice. This location is not on par with other Chuy's I have been to. My Chicka Chicka Boom Boom barely had any chicken. My large tortilla soup was not as tasty as usual. My husband had the beef fajitas and the beef was mushy. I found the ingredients at the location did not taste as good as other Chuy's. They use tap and not filter water. This was my first time here and let me tell you the ambience was great, staff was friendly, and attentive, our server however wasn't very good at explaining the menu. I ordered the Tacos al carbon I chose beef.. I wanted rancheros but was given refried beans (she brought the ranchero beans later) the rice was red I guess it was cold & had a weird after taste. Tacos weren't that great the tortilla was flour it got super soggy. idk I really wanted to like the place.. will definitely be back but just to drink.. like I said ambience was great they have a beautiful patio area that's just delightful to be in.! read more

Despite ample opportunities in multiple cities, I finally managed to eat at Chuys. Despite it being busy, we got seated in about 10 minutes which was pretty fast. It looks like each room has a different theme. We got seated in the far room which had a vintage care theme (hubcaps on ceiling, photos of cars everywhere). The bar had photos of people's dogs (maybe cats too I dunno, the cat photos prolly wander off like the solitary brats they are). Cool idea. I couldn't help but notice how much STUFF they squeeze on to the walls. Like seriously, there's maybe a couple inches between the various stuff and it fills the walls throughout the entire restaurant. Chuy's definitely has personality (like 6 personalities. All clashing, crazy style). Anyways. Sadly, the service was lacking throughout the evening, but it was a Friday night at prime time so whaddya expect. Drinks took a while, getting the salsas took a while, getting the check took a while. Yada yada you get the idea. I was pretty excited to try the salsas and my gf and I were craving some Mexican drinks (of the alcoholic variety...is there any other kind??). She got the skinny margarita and I started off with the sangria. She enjoyed the margarita and from the sip I had I thought it was pretty good too. My sangria was also delicious. My only complaint was there was soo much ice I pretty much drank the entire thing in a few slurps. I tried the house margarita next and it was ok. The salsas were fun to try and were definitely made from fresh ingredients. I thought the jalapeno ranch salsa was the best (but pretty salty). The house salsa that came out on default had a lot going on. I found it almost too tangy but there was no faulting the fresh ingredients. I got the comida deluxe and enjoyed my meal. The chicken flautas and the beef taco were my favorite parts. The meat was tender, the flauta crispy and fresh. The refried beans and the green chile rice a hit. The cheese enchilada was solid as well if not mindblowing (But seriously its really hard for a cheese enchilada to stand out). I didn't really understand the allure of the giant chip covered in queso. Eating two basketfuls of chips and salsa probably numbed me to yet another 2 chips on my plate. The queso on the chips was good though. The gf got chicken fajitas and she devoured them. I thought the chicken was a little tough but it was well seasoned and tasty. We both thought the guacamole was a little lacking in the zest department and I thought the texture was a little gummy. All in all, I can see why Chuy's is popular. The food is good. It's got a fun vibe. Any other place and I would easily say Chuy's is 4 stars, but there are a lot of other really good tex-mex places in town that I think top it and after trying Chuy's I'll prolly only go if a group really wants to go. Chuy's will always and forever have a special place in my heart and I am thrilled to have a little bit of my beloved Austin here in El Paso. The Tex-Mex scene isn't very strong in El Paso (because we focus on authentic Mexican), so Chuy's quickly ranks near the top of that category. The food is very good, beginning with the chips and salsas, which are complimentary and pose a very real danger of filling you up! I had the stacked enchiladas with the tomatillo deluxe sauce, and though they don't really look like enchiladas, I really liked them. I haven't been here for happy hour yet, but we learned they have $5 margaritas and a nacho bar, so they'll be seeing me again soon! I really dug the patio area, the atmosphere is relaxes, but the patio is even more relaxed, and they have those awesome mist fans that will keep you comfy. Like any new place, there's a wait to get a table, I waited about 30 minutes for one during lunch, however once you are seated our servers were very attentive and friendly. After running some errands, my boyfriend, his daughter and I were all pretty hungry and we probably would've settled for a PB&J at home because we were also all pretty lazy, but the Food God's answered a prayer we hadn't even prayed yet. An angel sent forth a message of Chuy's. That angel was Albert K. Albert got there way before us so we didn't have to actually wait to be seated, but there definitely is a wait. And when we arrived the line was outside. Like anything shiny and new that comes to El Paso, this kind of wait is normal for the first few months. But Albert did say the wait was only thirty minutes so that's not too bad for a place at lunch during opening week. We found Albert out on the patio and I really liked it. I think every restaurant at The Fountains has done a phenomenal job of constructing patios that provide shade and the proper temperature to enjoy a meal outside in the El Paso heat. The whole enclosure and decorations on the patio are metal. The roof has these fun designs cut into it that lets the sunlight in without blinding you or giving you a serious case of sunburn. I thought the metal palm trees were pretty cool too and there were colorful lights hanging that I'm sure make for a pretty sight at night. All around great job with the patio! And to be honest, when I did go inside for a bit to just check it out, I kind of prefer the patio. Nothing against the interior of Chuy's (which was nice and just as well-executed), but the breeze and the design outside was just perfect for a lunch. I wouldn't say that the food took an unusually long amount of time (especially considering how packed they were), but we did finish two baskets of the chips... most of that may or may have not been eaten by me. Either way, I liked the chips. They're better than Chili's! *GASP* I just really like super thin chips with a heavenly amount of salt that somehow never gives me cottonmouth. They originally brought out a single salsa which might be safe to assume that on a normal not opening week day would be the only thing served with your chips. It was good. All the usual players... tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, a little cilantro. But before we were about to order our server let us know that they had a variety of sauces that could be put on your enchiladas so he was bringing over samples so we could give them a whirl with our chips. The queso is my jam! Pretty sure they serve chips with queso as an app so that's definitely what I'll be starting with next time. Since we were tardy to the party, Albert ordered some guac to start. Okay, I like this guacamole, but it's not the super smooth variety where someone spent a good ten minutes smooching an avocado with a fork, it's the kind where someone used a spoon to scoop out the avocado, mixed in some tomatoes and onions, maybe a little lime, and then took a cookie dough scooper and plopped them in a bowl. I'm not mad at this guac, in fact, I like it. I'm just saying it can be a little tough to scoop out with chips. My recommendation is to fortify your chip with more delicious chips or just use a spoon and plant it delicately on top of a single chip. Everyone at the table got some form of enchiladas except for me. I went with the pork tacos, crispy. I like them. Instead of the tortilla being deep fried, I think it was actually baked... very Tex-Mex. The pork was shredded and had a little heat, but there were some jalapenos on the side in case I needed more heat. I did not. I liked these and I'd probably order them again, but next time I think I want to try the stacked enchiladas with the queso because it looked bomb. The rice was different than what you typically get in El Paso and I really enjoyed it because of that. The beans are what had my taste-buds going crazy. Now, I couldn't convince anyone else of this, but while these looked like regular beans you normally get from a Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurant they didn't taste like them. They were only subtly different... they were sweeter. But not in a someone-just-added-a-cup-of-sugar-to-the-beans kind of way. I'm pretty positive they use a healthy dose of paprika in their beans. I'm like 72% sure of this. Regardless, they were absolutely yum. Service was great. Refills were quick. And we were never became an abandoned table. Chuy's Pancho nachos are delicious! Especially the fajita steak ones, served with guacamole, they are to die for! They also have specials for during the week, we dined in on a Monday and had their special fried ! Which was sooo good! I've never had a fried avocado before! I believe this restaurant opened up about a few months ago, and it's always packed whenever I stroll by the fountains. We went here for a late lunch and the wait was about 15 - 20 minutes. The patio/bar outside looked great and the inside interior was colorful and clean. For a really busy restaurant, it was well kept. I can see it was a great family restaurant too. The servers are so nice. Especially, Jesse he had great customer service. Always checking on us and having great enthusiasm. The chips and salsa was awesome. The chips were thin and crispy, lightly salted. I ordered chicken flautas and tortilla soup (since it was super cold that day). This was the most soft chicken flautas I've had. The outside was crunchy, but the chicken was finely shredded. Interesting. It wasn't drowned in sauce, which was great for me cause I like to enjoy it. The soup was all right. But I was in love with their salsas. We've tried a variety on their appetizer menu. The atmosphere was great. Customer service was good. And their food was awesome. I'm glad I tried this place out and I'll be coming back. :) But yes, there is a wait. I will touch on three topics, those being: hospitality, food quality, and restaurant environment. The employees were very kind and helpful with questions. They were timely when checking on the table for refills, more chips, checking the satisfaction of the customers, etc. Customer service rating is a 4/5 The food itself was actually rather good. My expectations are relatively high because I have had quality Mexican food many times before. The texture and taste of their chips and tortillas are what really grabbed my attention. They were light and almost fluffy with the perfect amount of salt. Aside from that, the food in general was above satisfactory, but not the best I've had. Overall good receives a 3.5/5 The environment of the restaurant was my favorite aspect. It resembled a 50's/60's diner with semi-traditional decorations for a Mexican restaurant. In case you wanted to know...Chuy is an acronym for Christo hijo unico de Yahweh. This translates to Christ, the only son of God. Guys who are named Jesus are usually nicknamed Chuy. Anyway... Chuy's was very loud and busy! It was a Friday night so I'm sure that's typical. I was with good company, Elite Judy B. and her husband. I had chicken fajita tacos. To me, they were more like burritos because they were on a flour tortilla. They were good! The rice and beans were good too. I really liked the tortilla chips with the jalapeno dip. The dip is very flavorful. It was happy hour so I also had a frozen strawberry margarita. Yum! The service was fast. The waiter was ok. He was super busy and brought the food out quick. Chuy's is El Paso newest incarnation of Mexican food. Their claim to fame is a fresh menu - one small freezer here for kids ice cream. They make a good impression from the outside with nice outdoor dining and a bar that transitions inside, The restaurant is decorated and has more of a Baja style than most Mexican joints around. We were seated quickly and had drinks, chips, and four types of fresh salsa at the table in less than 5 minutes. I ordered the enchilada / flauta combo, my wife ordered the vegetarian enchilada. I always say you can judge Mexican restaurants off three things- tortillas, rice, and beans. I think Chuy's knocks them first two outta the park, I mean delicious! We went as soon as they opened, since as with any new place here in town, this restaurant has been packed since they opened for business. Very nice atmosphere (if you get cold, wear long sleeves. The temperature inside is perfect for this 100+ degree weather we are having right now). Our server was friendly and courteous and brought to our table a sample of each of their sauces. All of them were delicious. I love how they keep an eye out for the chips and bring you more without having to ask. I got the Elvis Green Chile Fried chicken, and my two companions ordered the southwestern enchiladas and chicken flautas. All three plates were generously served and came with beans and rice (in my case it was the green chile rice). I ordered my dish with Deluxe Tomatillo sauce instead of green chile, and when it came they overlooked this change, but replaced my order within seconds. Everything was hot and flavorful. I took half my dish home it was so well-served. The only con was that our server charged us twice for my dish, which generated a mischarge on our bill. However, the friendliness of the staff, speedy service and overall quality of food and atmosphere won us over. I will definitely return, especially after the hype has died down a bit. read more

My family was in town this weekend and my sister In law wanted Mexican food. While walking around the fountains we saw this place and decided to try it out and boy are we glad we did! Our waitress was courteous and easy going. The food was a 10/10! Highly recommend the chimichanga. My mother in law got the chimichanga on Friday and Saturday night I had to have one too so she ordered it to go and picked it up for me. Although I am Hispanic and a lover of super spicy Mexican food and not much of a Tex-Mex fan. Chuy's is the only exception to the rule. All of their food is freaking amazing. The shrimp tacos light and delicious and extremely flavorful. The burritos are larger than life are delicious as well. The margaritas are always on point and the servers are beyond exceptional. Does el paso really need a chain tex mex restaurant? This place is by no means terrible but it doesn't even come close to having a "top contender" anything on its menu. I could understand coming here if you're already at the fountains and craving tex-mex but if you're smart (which I'm sure you are because you're reading reviews) and not shy about ordering something from someone who doesn't speak English very well do your stomach a solid and find something within a mile or two that offers better food. read more

I have been to quite a few different locations throughout Texas and Chuy's maintains quality at all of them. The boom boom sauce is so good! They have special plates every day of the week, and Friday they have pork boom boom enchiladas. The pork is juicy and tender. It comes with cilantro rice which is very flavorful as well. You have to try the creamy jalapeño ranch dip with the chips. Their chips are thin and crispy and they're unlimited as it should always be!
