Corporate America failed in their endeavor to bring Mexican food, actually Tex-Mex, to El Paso. First off, they didn't have salsa! Seriously, they were out of salsa. I've been to Chuys all over TX and even in Kentucky. I used to frequent the original in Austin and it was my favorite. I recently moved to El Paso and needed a creamy jalapeño fix so my wife and I drove to Chuys. We expected an average experience but we're very pleasantly surprised at how amazing Chuys could be. Why? Our server Desiree was probably the best waitress we've ever had. So responsive and friendly. The food was great and she brought us all the chips and salsas we wanted. When we asked for a box for our leftovers, she asked if we wanted some chips and salsa to go. What?!?! Of course! She gave us a big bag of chips and a couple things of creamy jalapeño and salsa fresca. We will definitely be visiting over and over again! read more

We found ourselves at The Fountains and decided to give this Tex-Mex chain a try. Well, why anyone would want to open a Mexican food chain in El Paso is beyond me....but here we are. First, the salsa they serve to the table and their salsa bar is really good. Right amount of heat but the chili con queso is yellow water with bits and pieces of chopped chili...just plain awful. You have a choice of either ranchero or refried beans...the taste EXACTLY the same. I assume the ranchero beans are emulsified to make the refried bean. They have good flavor though. The Spanish rice is good some of the best around but then the green chili rice is off...something missing...like taste maybe? The strangest thing was the chili relleno. First, the batter is thick and crunchy...cornmeal and flour mix instead of egg whites? That's bad enough but the worst part is the chili wasn't peeled. They leave that thick course skin which makes eating it difficult. Rookie mistake? This can't possible be the way they do their chilies all they time. The chicken used in the soft tacos has good flavor but the chicken appeared to have died from dehydration and the steak used for the soft tacos seems like it too was on a holding table way too long. My table partners had flan that the raved about. Our server was attentive but it took a LONG time to get our food and the place wasn't that busy. No reason to go back. Been there, done that, checked the box. Too many local legit places to go instead. read more

This place has always been one of my favorites. Their steak burrito is delicious with the boom boom sauce. The queso compuesto that they serve doesnt have too much meat which sometimes makes the queso salty so I love to order it as an appetizer. Not much attention to customer service. This place is good...very good. And that creates a problem all in itself. I went on Tuesday at around 6 and the place was packed and on a wait...unusual for a Tuesday. Went back on Friday at around 430pm and it was even more crowded. Portion sizes are good, atmosphere is casual / fiesta-like and the food is very nummy. If I could rate the food I would but we were sat down and waited 15mins to get our drink order, then were told it takes 45mins to get our food. So we just decided to pay our drinks. I give three stars mostly because the service was good. We ordered the deluxe quesadilla and the meat in it was burned and there was barely any cheese. The creamy jalapeño sauce was a weird tasting ranch, I wouldn't recommend it. I ordered the nachos. They were decent, but I wouldn't come back for them. I came to this restaurant hoping to get a different experience, unfortunately I had the worst. I went in a party of 3 on a Saturday around 1PM and the service was horrible. I can't imagine going any time in the evenings. The waitress took forever to get our order, even longer to come back to our table and see if we needed anything. I asked to modify their quesadillas and add sirloin, just to find out that when it was brought to me that it was ground sirloin, something the waitress failed to mention to me. Initially I didn't even get my food with the rest of my group, I had asked for onions on the side and I guess the waitress noticed the onions when she was bringing it out so I had to wait even longer just to get something that I wouldn't be happy with anyways. The waitress offered to exchange it out but told me it would take more time, I wanted to give it a shot so decided to hold off on sending it back. I took one bite, and the flavor was definitely not something I wanted to eat. To be fair it may have tasted good on its own, but when you're expecting strips of sirloin and they bring you something that looks like ground beef, you're not going to be happy right? After that one bite, I couldn't even get a hold of the waitress, the next time she came back to our table to check on us the rest of my group had already finished their meals. At which point I decided to just give up and send the meal back completely. At some point I ordered a Strawberry Mojito and must give a thanks to the bartender because it was the only thing keeping me from losing my patience. The mojito tasted great, but then again it did cost me about $7 bucks. To make the experience worse, when we asked for our checks to be separate, the waitress asked us to tell her what we had order (food, drinks and all). If that didn't annoy me enough, when we gave her the 3 credit cards to pay with (each with the appropriate tab) she went and charged one member for 2 of the meals and we had to wait another 10 minutes to get that fixed. What should have been a quick hour, hour and a half lunch turned into a 3 hour fiasco. It will be a heck of a long time before I decide to put up with their waitresses again. I really think the food may have been a good experience but if the service is going to be horrible then it's not worth it. read more

Chuy's is a neat diner style Tex-Mex restaurant that gives a very casual atmosphere yet serves up a variety of flavors. My wife and I came for just a casual date night after a movie and it was our first time here. The service is very prompt and very good our server jaqueline was awesome. They offered a pretty good happy hour specials on margaritas that included a variety of flavors other than lime, we didn't try it this time but many people were ordering them. They serve up the traditional tostada chips and salsa to begin with the salsa was made with fresh tomatoes which made it chunky which I love. Then they brought out another sauce called creamy jalapeño which was very delicious and perfect for those who aren't into very spicy sauces. For dinner I had the chicka-chicka boom boom enchilada plate and my wife had the vegetarian combination plate. Me personally, again the enchilada sauce was on par and had the roasted taste I love, unfortunately I was not a fan of the rice and beans I felt like I received the last part of the rice with the burnt pieces of rice, the refried beans tastes like the ones you buy in a can from the grocery store but all In all the sauce made up for it. The veggie combo plate had a chile relleno-tasty but the batter reminded us of the type of batter on fried chicken (very thick and flakey). For the veggie enchilada, it was nice to see an enchilada that had more than your average cheese, it had squash and spinach and was covered in a roasted pepper tasting sauce and cheese which really tasted like pizza. Okay let's start by getting this out of the way, Chuy's is Tex-Mex. Get it, Teeex-Meeex. Don't go in with the idea that this will be like the local Mexican restaurants here in town. I have been wanting to try this place out since they opened and made plans to go as soon as they opened. As we got there, we were seated right away. The place was already starting to get packed. We were served the traditional chips and salsa. The chips were thin but that was a plus, not greasy at all. The salsa was really good. I am in the few that cant eat cilantro because of the taste. I could taste the cilantro in the salsa, however, it was so light, it didn't bother me. Very good. We also had the jalapeno cream and hatch green chile salsa which were good as well. I was in the mood for tacos so I had the tacos al carbon. They gave me two, I was like "only two", but trust me, two was enough. They served them with the typical side dishes rice and beans. That was good as well, seasoned well. The tacos were great, came with a side of guacamole and pico. Usually I don't like pico because of the cilantro but as with the salsa, the taste was light and didn't bother me. The service was great, no complaints. The server was very attentive and provided us everything we needed. All in all, I would recommend it even if you think Tex-Mex doesn't stand up to our local Mexican flavor. read more

I've been to Chuy's in other cities before so I came in already knowing the food would be good. We sat on the patio and had the most amazing service from Alexis. He is the main reason for the 5 star rating. He kept our chip bowl full, glasses full, knew the menu and made great recommendations. His service was seriously outstanding and made outer lunch that much more enjoyable. Our margaritas were delicious, especially the lime and strawberry swirl one. My shrimp Baja tacos were so good that I couldn't even offer my husband a bite because I only had two and wanted to eat them all. He had a chicken chimichanga which he enjoyed also. Ok so where do I begin? First of all this is the BEST Mexican I've had in all the southwest! Wow on Wow! We arrived on Saturday around 7pm and didn't have a wait. The manager sat us and share with us what makes Chuy's special. The chips are light and fresh, perfectly made. The salsa is Amazing- fresh of course. That white jalapeño salsa is to die for and fresh. Starting to see a pattern? Everything is made Fresh everyday and throughout the day. The don't have a walkin Freezer and this shows. ( only a little freezer for ice cream) Had a Delicious margarita with blood orange flavor our waiter recommended. Spot on! Now the main course, tacos made carne guisada which was a scrumptious stew like beef and Husband had a combo plate of enchiladas, taco and a chalupa that he basically licked the plate clean. We finished with a tres leches for dessert that was out of this world Good! Everything was Fresh and every bite of everything you could definitely tell. When your new to the area and people tell you to go to Chicos Tacos skip this recommendation and head straight for Chuy's!!! Oh and the manager came and talked to us a lot throughout our time there and even talked us into dessert. She was Awesome as well as our server- Michael! Great place!! My husband and I stopped here while he was in town for a work conference, and never having been to the area before, we stumbled upon this place and decided to give it a try. Upon walking into the restaurant, we were greeted with a friendly, smiling hostess, and really fun atmosphere inside. Since it was so nice out, we decided to dine out on their patio, which was nicely decorated and also had a fun vibe. The free chips and salsa were amazing. The salsa had a bit of a bite to it for us, but the flavor was great. Our food did not disappoint. Both our dishes were served very hot and tasted great! Our waitress was nice and attentive, and the only complaint we have was that we were not told about the salsa bar we later saw inside, after finishing our meals. Also, just wish this place had a citrus-flavored soda, such as Mountain Dew. But overall-Fun place with flavorful food and a great atmosphere! read more

I'm here in El Paso visiting family and my daughter says we've got to go eat at Chuy's before you leave. I loved the ambiance of this place the colors and themes they have going on puts you in a happy mood. We went for dinner on a Wednesday night and it wasn't too busy most tables were occupied but there was no wait to be seated. Our waitress Brittani was friendly and provided excellent service. The food was delicious I love how they use Hatch chiles in many of their dishes. I ordered the chicka boom enchiladas and the flavor and spicy factor were amazing also had a margarita that was awesome! I live in Los Angeles and we need a Chuy's out here!! read more

Wow! This place certainly hit the spot for me and my co-workers. We enjoyed a nice lunch here on someone's recommendation. This place did not disappoint. We were seated right away for lunch in the outdoor patio area. Nice outdoor set-up, plenty of shade and a nice cool breeze. I skipped the margarita for lunch since this was during work hours... but I will definitely be back to try them. The chips were served with a salsa as well as some type of jalapeno ranch dip. Both were great and complimented the chips well. We also ordered the queso compuesto to go with the chips which was delicious! The service was okay... nothing exceptional. We had to wave down our waitress a few times for chip refills. Seems they would have given a table of four hungry patrons more than one basket of chips. I ordered the Friday special- pork enchiladas. The rice and beans were noticeably different from what I've had at other Tex-Mex places.... but it was a good different. Much more spices and flavors to enjoy with the enchiladas. Let me start off by letting people know that this is Tex-Mex. Mexican food is completely different. Tex-Mex was created for a completely different palate and people comparing the two are really comparing apples to oranges. Ok, with that out of the way, I want to point out that this is also a national chain that does not put forth nearly the same effort as a locally owned restaurant in terms of the quality of food. I, personally can say that this place has great service as everyone is beyond polite and professional but as far as the food goes, it is immensely overpriced and unimpressive. Really good TexMex menu. Everything we had was delicious. Pretty good mixed drinks at a decent price. Really enjoyed the various sauces. Unfortunately the waiter was awful. To the point where at one point we thought he had left or forgot he even had a table. Good experience at the restaurant, and waiters can be hit or miss, but they can also ruin a meal. There are other good restaurants that have consistently good service, and those are the places I'll go next time. read more
