Much better for dine in than for take out!! It was Friday night, and we decided on Mexican for dinner but since my cousin couldn't get a nanny we settled with take out. She placed the order, ordering a little bit of everything for everyone to share and I was in charge of picking up the food. I kid you not, I almost sat down to eat at the restaurant; it was alive, fun and full of energy! I contemplated having dinner and then delivering what she had ordered. The food took a little long for take out, we did however order a good amount. The disappointing part was the food, it wasn't all that bad but lacked a bit of flavor; it could have been the fact that we took it to go and everything got a little moist or whatever, but I feel the quality of this place doesn't have to improve much if the restaurant is as happening as it seemed to be. read more

First time here and it was very good. They gave us a sample of 4 of their sauces. All were quite good. Salsa has a spiciness to it, fresh. We've been looking for a nice Mexican restaurant with good food and good service. So far, the best we can do is the lower-end Los Bravos chain. We have never had a bad experience there, and I am getting tired of trying to find something nice to please my spouse. I think going forward, I'll just head to Los Bravos no matter how sketchy the neighborhood is. Last night, we tried Chuy's. The place is very inviting looking, and the decor is nice. I love the patterned tile floors, bright walls, and artwork. There were no crowds on this Saturday evening, so we were hoping for an enjoyable meal. We were seated quickly. However, we got the "screeching baby section." That hasn't happened in ages, so I don't know how our luck ran out. We were bookended by clueless parents with grown kids and crying babies. I emphasize the grown children so you know this was not the first rodeo for the clueless parents. When you kid is screaming, take Junior OUTSIDE. I can't blame the restaurant for the patron's behavior, but am I going to have to ASK not to be seated in the crying baby section? Our harried server flitted by like a bird introducing herself before dashing off to who knows where. She came back with chips and salsa before dashing off again. Chuy's gives you chips, salsa, and ranch dip of some sort, and their chips and salsa are quite good. High marks there. Harried waitress came back for our order. We got the drink order in but before we could order food, she dashed off again. It was several minutes before she came back with water but not the bar order. We were finally able to order our entrees. I had planned to get one of the Elvis specials, but after repeated refills of the chips, I felt I couldn't squeeze the Elvis special in, so I settled on something else. My son ordered chicken nuggets and fries. Yep...Mexican restaurant, and he gets chicken nuggets.... sigh. Wife got pork tacos. The drinks were fine if on the small size. I got a "large" margarita, but it was disappointingly small IMHO, It was, however, well made and very tasty. I'd get one again. My wife's tacos were very food. I had a cheese enchilada and ground sirloin taco. The enchilada was great. The taco was good, but the shell was so thin it crumbled as I tried to eat it. The beans and rice were good too. My son's chicken nuggets somehow turned into chicken fingers, and the server never caught on though I made one or two comments about "my how nuggets have changed." The food was good but overall the service was subpar, and there was no reason for it. The place was not busy. Maybe they were short staffed, but it made no sense whatsoever. The server seemed to always be running, so maybe they do a very poor job of assigning tables so servers are always running to and fro. I waited tables in grad school, so I know what that's like. We'll give Chuy's one more try, but if the service is subpar again, they will be off the list. read more

Ordered take out for a business meeting today and was very disappointed. They forgot the guacamole, queso and one of the meals we had ordered. I took advantage of their curbside service so didn't check the bags like I should have. When I drove back to retrieve the missing items, they threw in a free Tres Leches for dessert, which was delicious. I will give them another chance due to the recovery service, but my advice to you is to check your take-out orders thoroughly before leaving the lot. read more

As good as it gets for Tex Mex. The thin tortilla chips and salsa are probably my favorite in any restaurant. Far and away my favorite thing on the menu is the steak burrito under specials. The rest of the main courses are average and I would advise against ever trying the Lay's potato chip fried chicken. The desserts are above average. My wife and I tend go for the flan since the tres leches is usually too big for two people. Expect to leave satisfied and occasionally miserably full (in a good way). The main reason we bring people here is the atmosphere... and the service. Its a comically tacky and even includes a velvet Elvis, a hub cap ceiling and people making fresh tortillas. It's one of those places kids don't scream, I guess its because they're busy looking around. Even I get distracted from time to time in this restaurant. It would be a four star if the rest of the main courses were a bit better and they renovated the room leading to the patio. If your hostess starts to go that way and you didn't ask for the patio, ask to sit at the bar. read more

Maybe because I hadn't eaten for a while, but man was this good last night! I had the regular cheese quesadillas. AWESOME! The portion was large, and I was almost full just from that. I also had the fajita chicken big burrito with hatch chile sauce, and the green chili rice. The rice was undercooked (or almost burnt - couldn't tell) but it was too crunch, so I had maybe one bite of that. The burrito was soooo good! My favorite place in the area for a casual dinner. I usually get the crispy tacos with chicken, my SO usually gets one of the enchiladas or the #1combo! I love that we can both eat, have leftovers, and enjoy great service and spend around $20-25. I will certainly have to update with pictures on my next visit. My ultimate fav is the creamy jalepeno dip! I sometimes drop by just to get some! At one time, I would have given this Chuy's four stars, but something has gone wrong here. My last two meals here were major disappointments. The food quality has dropped considerably. I noted on my last visit that the staff was rather slovenly in their dress. If the staff can't be bothered to dress well, they certainly aren't going to care about the food or your dining experience. Count me among the Texas transplants who were very excited to see Chuy's opening in Atlanta. We don't have enough GOOD Tex-Mex in this town. I made it to Chuy's for lunch a few days ago and really enjoyed it. The queso to start was perfect - just spicy enough for everyone at the table to enjoy. My signature enchiladas were tasty. Looking around the table, everyone enjoyed their meals - enchiladas, taco, chalupa, BIG burrito, etc. I think we had a good representation of the menu. Prices were very fair - most items are around $8-$10 with fajitas and a few combos priced higher. Service was a little harried, but we were there right at noon and the place was hopping. Lots of parking around the restaurant and into the strip center parking lot. No margaritas for me at lunch, but I will be back to check those out. read more

This place rocks! Living in the Dunwoody area, I've always considered it a mexican culinary wasteland. Chuy's is a breath of fresh air. My favorite items on the menu are: chicken quesadillas, the Baja fish tacos, the cheese dip, the chicken tortilla soup. They have homemade flour tortillas which makesthis Mexican food taste soooo much better. You can see the ladies in the back hand patting and browning the fresh tortillas. They go on and on about the creamy jalapeno dip - - -not sure what the craze is. I think it's good, but not THAT good. It's not very spicy, for a jalapeno dip. I'm just sayin. And best of all, THE MARGARITA's. Fresh squeezed lime juice makes all the difference. I had the Patrone margarita with sugar around the rim, and I was in a VERY happy place. The place is SUPER cheesy - - but that's their schtick. The staff is very friendly, no attitude and very accommodating. I've eaten at Chuys 5 times since it opened - - only once did I had a cold fish taco plate, and they immediately replaced it, no questions asked. Very quick to remedy. Go to Chuy's!! read more

I fell in love with Chuy's in Austin, TX years ago. Heard they were expanding, and wondered if they would still be funky. Still have a tee shirt from there saying "Keep Austin Weird". Pleased to report that the atmosphere and mood remain true to the original. Each location is a little different, but they're all colorful, and fun. Everyone here has already raved about the chips and salsa, so I'll just add that I love the fact they bring two different dips, one red, and the other green. Both are pretty spicy, but not over-whelming to a gringo. Once or twice when dining alone at lunch, the server only brought one dip, but quickly produced another when asked. Do. All the entrees I've tried have been pretty good, but my favorites are with a seasonal delicacy called "green hatch chilies". If these goodies are offered, in late summer, you gotta' try them. Kind of a southwest thing. I've always been happy with the food and bar servers, and they go out of their way to keep you happy. Most entrees seem to be in the range from $9 to $12. This is my frist time going to the restaurant. My friends kept saying you need to go there so we had chance today so we did and I loved this place! As soon as we entered Chuy's the music was awesome, we were greeted with a smile and asked if wanted to be seated inside or outside we asked if we can be seated outside he they seated as right away Chips and salsa were immediately served, which is my favorite starter and we ordered a beandip, fresh guacamole and fresh tortillas. I ordered there. Chili Rancho with there special source and a side order of there rice and beans. There was 14 of us so it did take a minute but the food was still hot and yummy. This was my first time here on a weekend trip to Atlanta. The food was good. I got a steak burrito and my fiancé ha a chicken fajita. The problem was how long it took to get it. We had a new waiter who want that bad. Our drinks and salsa came quickly. The food took a long time. It took about 30-35 minutes for the food. The excuse for us was they had been filling an order for a large party. However, the excuse we heard give to another table was different. They were told the printer broke for the orders to print out for the cooks and now they were making orders on the fly. Hmmmmm. I would give it another try if I'm back in town again. Thank goodness we finally have an outstanding Mexican restaurant in Atlanta. We have been to the ones in Austin TX many times and recently to the one in Birmingham AL, now we have one here! Would like to get one in the Suwanee area next! This is the best tasting Mexican food this side of Austin. No "wanna bes" here so far above Chili's, Moe's, and any other Mexican food it is in a class by itself. You have to understand the heritage, on the back of the menu, to appreciate the decor and traditions but it is a different atmosphere and excellent food. It opened around December 1st and for one month in operation they are doing very well. The crowds tell you it is worth your trip and unless you want pre-prepared food served from the vat, this is worth the wait. We came here at about 7pm on a Saturday night so it was pretty busy. It didn't start out well when it took quite a bit longer than originally quoted to sit down. Then our waiter was so busy I think he forgot about us a few times. Those two things weren't so much deal breakers since we weren't in a hurry and enjoyed the time chatting. This must be Chuy's worst location when it comes to service. My visit for lunch was horrible. When I ordered my taco, the waitress asked "what protein"? I wasn't quite prepared to answer, so she asked loudly "what's your protein?" It took me a moment then I realized she meant: beef or chicken? Seems like that would have been a nicer way to ask. Anyway, I was enjoying the free chips and dip while I waited for the food. I left the table (I was dining alone) for at most three minutes to use the restroom. When I got back, the busser was at my table. It was totally cleared. No chips , dip, or full glass of water. That kind of annoyed me. So I went to the front and asked the manager what gives. She said "Our bus boy is just too quick!" and kind of shrugged. I sat down again and she brought me more chips and dip, and then my lunch. She promised me a "dessert" to make it right. Then the waitress appeared and said "I heard you were upset." So I started to tell her what happened. She stopped me immediately and said "Oh, you don't need to tell me anything... I just wanted to see if you wanted the manager." So much for sympathy. The dessert arrived and then the check. The price of the dessert was on the bill. That's when I left. read more

All I wanted was some queso... what I got was awful service. We sat at the bar hoping for faster service than a table, but the only 2 seats left hadn't been cleaned yet from the previous patron. There were 2 bartenders working and neither of them greeted us in any way. We sat there in front of the dirty plates for 15 minutes before giving up and leaving. Even if you're in the weeds, the least you can do is say "I'll be with you ASAP" and serve your patrons water and menus. read more

I became a big fan of Chuy's in Austin many years ago. Chuy's in Atlanta...excellent ! It's pretty much the same Tex-Mex here as it was in Austin. My only complaint is that they did not serve the red salsa here. I asked the server for some and he brought me every other sauce in the world except the Texas red salsa. That said, no other complaints. The chic chic boom boom enchiladas are soooooo goooood ! Now I can get my true Tex-Mex fix. Also, it's fun on the patio with a group too.
