We really wanted to like this place and it was one of the Mexican places that didn't have an extensive wait time due to it being Cinco de Mayo. However, too many things went wrong here. For starters, my parnter fajitas came out very bland and flavorless and how can ANYONE forget the warm tortillas to go with the fajitas?!?! How else can you eat fajitas?! We had to wait to receive them! The food in general was very average at best. I ordered the bean & cheese burrito, which was pretty decent and was massive and you get to choose from a variety of sauces to top it. The sauces were all featured as in-house made. The salsa tasted freshly prepared as well as the guac. But here is what went terribly wrong with our visit here: 1(and only 1): POOR SERVICE!! No one seems to care about putting the customer first and providing exceptional service. Our food took forever and our server struggled to keep up with the demands of her tables. She constantly forgot many of the items we asked for, such as refills! And every 5 minutes or so, a server would stop by random tables and ask, "did you order this?". No one seemed to "know" their tables and what was ordered there. It was just a bad night for us. Needless to say, NO we will not be returning and I would NOT recommend coming here. First time here. Never again! I expected something a little better. The atmosphere isn't what i expected. The host walks faster than the actual definition of speed walking to sit you down. This place is definitely the definition of "TEX-MEX." Nothing feels, looks, or tastes authentic. Most tex-mex places have a somewhat Mexican atmosphere. Don't let the menu fool you! Chuy's was an overall pleasant experience. Our carless group of 8 wanted to eat dinner and I was thankful that it wasn't just another American place - Dunwoody has plenty of those. Getting a table was pretty easy and I asked the waiter right away if we could split checks and he said no problem. Great, so awesome when the accodomate large groups with the check. We all ordered margaritas that took suprisingly awhile to take.. about 25 minutes.. our food came out about another 25 minutes as well after ordered. I wasn't feel too hungry so I got the #8 which was just a taco with some guacamole and a cheese sauce. I thought this was on the pricier side for $7 but oh well. It was worth it with all the complimentary chips I'd say. There was a birthday in the group so the waiter so nicely snuck in some fried dough and a honey syrup which was a nice touch. My bf has been talking about this place ever since I met him. I still classify myself as "new" to atlanta because I don't get out as much as I should. I finally made my way here after my gym work out. Yes... after the gym. I exercise so I can justify being a fat kid. They provide complimentary chips and salsa as do many mexican restaurants. However, I was intrigued by their various signature sauces that are available upon request (Tex-Mex, Ranchero, Hatch-Green Chile, Green Chile, Tomatillo, Deluxe Tomatillo, Creamy Jalepeno). My favorite sauces are probably the Deluxe Tomatillo and Creamy Jalepeno. Their chips are rather thin and breaks at almost every attempt to scoop up some of your salsa or sauce. I ordered their Chika Chika Boom Boom Enchilada ($10.99) and my bf ordered their #2 Elvis Presley Memorial Combo ($11.69). Both of these are served with your choice of Mexican rice or Green Chile rice & refried or charro beans. Portion size is pretty big and generous. You won't be left hungry especially with the complimentary chips and salsa. I think my biggest disappointment with Chuy's is how salty everything is. Okay.. maybe not EVERYTHING. Their enchiladas aren't bad but their sauces and their seasoned ground sirloin taco that comes with the #2 combo plate got pretty salty for my preference. You can find Chuy's at 118 Perimeter Center W., Atlanta, GA 30346 in the same shopping center anchored by Barnes and Noble Books - it's a standalone building that formerly was a Brazilian steakhouse called Fires of Brazil. Parking is anywhere around the restaurant with overflow stretching to the right side behind the building. Alternatively you can park in the large lot in front of the B&N Books. I've been meaning to update my review for some time as I've been coming to this location consistently several times a month since it opened. Initially I had given it a rather poor review but I've felt for some time that my initial take needed to be updated. This is that time. Chuy's is a chain that comes out of Austin Texas and as such qualifies well as Tex-Mex, however I find the flavors more like those I found while visiting New Mexico - mostly in the use of Hatch Chiles (sometimes called New Mexico Chiles) - these are really special chiles that deliver more of a back-heat punch and have a smokey flavor you don't typically find in green chiles like jalapenos (you do get a hint of what I'm talking about in a chipotle). The very special flavors these impart provide a not-so-subtle difference that you will enjoy immensely, if you like Mexican food. While in Albuquerque I especially liked the Hatch Chile and Posole soups (especially the red) - make sure you try one if you're ever out that way. Chuy's has several uses of the Hatch Green Chile - my favorite is the Steak Buritto. I'm also a big fan of their salsa - it's a handmade salsa cruda or salsa fresca that, along with the hand rolled tortillas places Chuy's way above the curve, in my opinion, transforming the common into the special. The exterior of Chuy's makes great use of the former Fires of Brazil, but adds stucco, a pastel Mexican color scheme and a lanai-like patio covered in natural palm-leaf fronds. The patio is a bit hot during the summer but is very enjoyable in the Spring/Fall months and even in winter through the use of tall propane heaters. The interior is very eclectic, starting with a really chopped up space that Chuy's has taken to a new level by covering every surface in some interesting thematic and kitchie artifacts. Each room has some special focal point based on an aspect of, supposedly Austin or Tex-Mex life. There's a car room covered in hubcaps, a room full of mysterious Mexican art by a surrealist painting his dreams, accompanied by Nelson bubble lamps. There's even a tribute to Elvis in one area and really, there's no lack of stuff to capture your (buzzed) attention. I've now eaten at this location dozens (yes you've read that right) times, have held two holiday parties here (they are great for this as they have several rooms that can be used), hosted several lunches for ProductCamp Atlanta and have catered many, many times from Chuy's. It's located across the street from my old office location so it's been a great spot to hit after work. They have an awesome happy hour that includes discounted drink prices and a free nacho bar. Of course now that my office has moved to Northpark, I'm not visiting quite so often, but still manage to come in a couple of times a month. For food, these are my favorites: Grilled Chicken Salad - get the jalapeno parmesan dressing. Fajita Chicken or Fajita Beef Burrito Tacos Al Carbon with beef or chicken Baja Tacos with Grilled Fish or Shrimp Steak Burrito with hatch green chile sauce (what I mostly order) Chicka-chicka Boom Boom - chicken and green chile encheladas (another that I get when I'm not in the mood for the Steak Burrito) Chicken or Steak Fajitas Elvis Presley Memorial Combo - only get this if you're extremely hungry or willing to split it. When you get your chips and salsa, they'll generally bring a side of the jalapeno parmesan dressing as a dip - if they don't make sure you ask for it. It's good on everything! You can also get pitchers of margaritas here or 420s from the bar - something to keep in mind when you're ordering. Service here can be hit-or-miss sometimes, especially when they're busy. Generally it's very good but it keeps me from giving them a 5/5 rating - it's still a solid 4-4.5/5. Prices can be less than $10 without tip but generally is more. I've been to Chuy's quite a few times (this location and another location in Nashville). It's the kind of place I'd give 3.5 stars if possible- solid, but nothing spectacular. Even though it's from Texas, it's not an authentic Mexican place. The chain was actually started by 3 former execs from the O'Charleys chain. Not surprising because the place is full of "flair". Even on the ceiling. Their signature item is the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom sauce. You can substitute this sauce for pretty much anything on the menu. It's a creamy sauce, and pretty good. Enchiladas are probably your best bet. The tacos are not great and you're better off going to Buford Highway if you are craving tacos. I will give it up for their chips and salsa. The chips are very thin, which is my preference. And the salsa has much more of a kick to it than standard Mexican places. Weekday happy hour is a nice deal (4-7 pm). You can half off beers and a free make-your-own nacho bar. One more tip- avoid the parking spots in the back if you can. For some reason the spots are really skinny and you're asking for door dings if you park there. read more

We had prompt beverages, chips and spicy salsa. Our kids appreciated having Creamy cheese and peppers for their chips. The fajitas, steak, chicken and a side of grilled shrimp filled me up. Fresh and plentiful shredded cheeses, crispy lettuce, flavorful guacamole with cool sour cream and the freshness of the tortillas was the best. My granddaughters ordered from the kids menu and actually ate their food!! Very impressive for finicky eaters. Only two things kept this from a five star. Loud music( I am hoarse from trying to speak up to be heard. Finally the restroom needs a complete cleaning. A little air freshener and a quick hourly check would bring it up to par. The thing is, the food doesn't match the over the top chain-feeling decor. You see, it's good. Really good. The ambiance feels a little Chili's but the food is straight up quality Tex Mex. My tortilla soup was delicious and my fajitas were HUGE and quite tasty. I loved that they gave you tons of grilled veggies (my favorite part) and all sorts of toppings from pico to guac to fresh lettuce. Also, be sure to nosh on the jalapeno cream sauce: it is seriously divine. The chips were thin and the salsa was fresh and I, as usual, could (and should) have made a meal just off of that. Instead I left overfull with a huge to-go container. Worse things have happened. It seems like this place is constantly packed to the gills, so be prepared for kind of a crazy atmosphere. I could have had a second bowl and been done, but I had already ordered an entree. It was warm and spicy and full of flavor with chunks of avocado and it was heavenly. They were only missing a wedge of lime to squeeze in at service. As for my entree, I went for the #1 combo - enchiladas, flautas (think taquitos) and a taco. A lot of food, but everything was delicious. I ended up having to take half of it home with me after the chips and the soup, but the waitress did not seem a bit surprised. This restaurant far exceeded my expectations. We went here to send off one of our co-workers/my friend Melissa M. It was a beautiful Thursday afternoon and we got seated in the patio area for lunch. Their patio area is super colorful and festive. Heck, the entire restaurant is "loud" with bright colors throughout so the décor alone might put you in a good mood. Their complimentary salsa and chips are a crowd favorite. I like that their chips are super thin and freshly fried. You can definitely hear the "crunch" in every bite. Our server and her helper that day were fantastic. We had a group of 8 or so and everyone was well taken care of. I really enjoyed my steak fajita burrito with the mild salsa. It was HUGE and came with their Mexican rice. The burritos are large enough that it could easily feed two people so be prepared to take half of it home or back to work if you're not super hungry. No. Just don' t do it. I read all the negative comments..but decided to go anyway. I figured people were just expecting too much of a chain restaurant and that it would be just fine. I came here with no expectations. I was going to be okay with it if it wasn't wonderful or super authentic tasting. But MY GOSH....this was bad. Everything tasted stale, bland, and canned. The chips were cold and the chips and salsa came from a "chip bar". What is a "chip bar" you ask? Well, it is a station with chips, salsa, cheese, and ground beef. People can go up to it and refill as needed. It is a pretty cool concept it wasn't for the fact that there were no covers on anything, no shields so that gnats could hover on all of the food. Also, it was set down low, so that people were constantly bending over the food to scoop out cold chili or cheese from one of the buckets. It was just not good. Also, everything was smothered in cheese. I love cheese, but it was hard to swallow my food because there were thick knots of chewy mozzarella on every bite. Bleh. 2 meals and 1 (not good) dessert came out to 26 bucks. Not expensive, but I ended up hitting a drive though afterwards because I was hungry. Solid Tex-Mex that replaces an all you can eat Brazilian steakhouse and delivers good and fresh food and drinks at a reasonable price. Salsa is very good. Service was good. The ingredients are fresh and all the food was tasty. The usual completely disgusting refried beans that most Mexican restaurants serve up actually are tasty here. I was interested in the creamy jalapeno dip since I'd heard about it but I was completely underwhelmed. Maybe I got a bad batch or something. It was ranch dressing with barely any bite. It was a decent ranch dressing but I guess I was thinking it'd be more than that. Prices are reasonable (including for beer). I didn't try any of the margaritas or mixed drinks but the folks at the bar said they were quite good. The bar area has the usual large screen TV array. Combine that with tasty food and reasonably priced beer and margaritas and you have a nice place to watch the game. Although we went at 3 p.m. on a Sunday the place had a solid gathering. Chuy's is one of our go-to family dining spots. We come here primarily for the incredibly fresh (and complementary!) salsa. Like seriously y'all, this is the best salsa EVER. A server here introduced us to their creamy jalapeño ranch (also complementary!) and the combination of ranch, salsa and their crispy chips is seriously tasty! You could easily get full on these starters alone, and I frequently do! I also enjoy their queso combined with their fresh, soft and buttery flour tortillas. I haven't had much luck, unfortunately, in finding my go-to entree here. I've tried a several menu items and nothing really hits the spot. Certainly not in the way that their salsas and dips do. Their fajitas are a very healthy portion and an order for one could easily serve two. I frequently share an individual order of fajitas with my kids and we often have leftovers to take home. The servers here have always been attentive and kind to my family. And during most of our visits a friendly manager comes by to ask us about our meal. I drove past it almost everyday on my way home from the Dunwoody MARTA station but I had never been in to eat. We were seated at 6:59 PM, and happy hour ended at 7. Our server took her time getting to us, and we were scrambling, and begged her to take mercy on our sad Thursday spirits with some happy hour specials. And thank goodness she gave in, and we ordered our margaritas with cheer. After we ordered our burrito to share, the server brought us chips and salsa. My friend had described the salsa as super "fresh" and I didn't really believe him until that first bite, which was, for a lack of a better word, "fresh." The food took a while getting to us, but it finally reappeared split in half, which was amazing, we didn't even ask for our food to be split, but maybe its a common order to share the burrito. Our food was equally portioned on two plates with half a burrito per person. The food was ok, but since we were starving, it definitely hit the spot. We had a really long wait for lunch with 6 people but we also didn't have reservations. I also don't know if they take reservations but if they do, you should use them if you're going to try and get more than four people at the same table. The food was really good. I had the Friday special which was a green chile chicken enchilada. The chicken was tasty and the green chile sauce was pretty spicy. If you're not into hot foods, I wouldn't recommend it but I really liked it. I was warmed up nicely. Wait staff and manager were nice and took care of us when we couldn't get seated quickly. I sat on the bar end at one of the high tables...so the bartender had to play double duty as a waiter too. The best drink to get is the the frozen swirl...everything is watered down. The jalapeño ranch dip is pretty good...but this is the first time I've gotten a refill on chips being brought out to me in an ice cream scooper And if you want anything off the special menu make sure it's on the day you go...I thought (like in most restaurants you couldn't get the specialty price)....nope you can not get the meal.
