I loved this place in Austin so I was happy to see it come to Arlington since I'm up here pretty often. The actual dishes themselves are quite good, and the servings are very big. Don't forget to order the queso--one of the best around. I rarely can finish my plate when I go to Chuy's and I have a pretty large appetite; so if you're on a date (and you two have already passed the I have to impress her stage), one appetizer and one entree between the both of you should be plenty of food. Also, the dishes here are just a tad more spicy than other Tex Mex chains, so don't order water if you don't want to show weakness. Eat up! read more

Oh snap. New Tex-Mex joint for me. :D Adios On the Border. Adios El Fenix. Hola Chuy, mi amor. My family and Paul H. had family dinner last night and it was surprisingly great. Their complementary chips were thin and crispy (barely salted -huge plus for me!) and the salsa had a lovely bite to it. Most salsas requires extra heat for for me but this one had enough bite to bite me back. Mmmm sexy. The queso was great. It was the familiar kind. Not all gourmet and weird. Simple queso that resembled freaking queso. Oh and their guac. I would gladly eat that with a spoon with a side of chips. That guac alone was the star appetizer. My entree was alright. It was exactly what I was imagining. I had ordered the vegetarian enchilada. I was hoping the roasted/grilled veggies would stand out more but it was a little outdone by the cheese. Regardless of my complaints, I finished my plate. I'm not super crazy about their refried beans but I would definitely go with the charro beans. I didn't want to be too musical that night so I left my beans half eaten. ;) Everything else looked really good. The fajitas smelled wonderful. The quesadillas were cute. And the margaritas were strong. I didn't have a taste but after one goblet, my dad was quite buzzed. The service was awesome. They were efficient without seeming pushy and they were very attentive. My first Tex Mex and my first time in Texas with Elite Yelper Tiffany D and her family. Service: After we were sat down, the server brought out chips before taking our drink orders. After our bringing out our drinks, he took 8 orders all by memory and made no mistakes. He also refilled our drinks when they were only half full. Service gets +1 star. Food: The tortilla chips were perfect and exactly how I like them: thin, crispy and not salty. The guac and queso dip were fantastic. I ordered the deluxe quesadilla while Tiffany D. ordered the veggie enchilada (see photos). The quesadilla had a bit too much cheese but overall great. The veggie quesadilla had plenty of flavor and wrapped in blue tortilla. Food gets +1 star. Environment: We went on a Tuesday night so there was plenty of tables available. The noise level was not too loud where we had to yell to place our order. Plenty of parking spaces too and there's a Pinkberry nearby! Overall the restaurant appeared tidy and clean. +1 star. So Ive been here multiple times. Its a really cool place. The servers are usually real fun and dont seem all depressed and soulless and without personality. I think personalty is a requirement to work here. My daughter works here. Shes cool. I love a place that allows you to wear jeans, thirsts, tattoos and piercings and blue hair. Anyways, the food isnt all that great but its certainly edible. I usually only go here if Im planning to have margaritas. Theyre good for some dranks! They have this creamy jalapeno ranch dip that makes ya wanna slap ya mama. Your OWN mama. Only the super secret cool people know of this so youll have to request it. Your welcome. Basically, the food is meh but its a fantastic spot for happy hour. I think my favortie meal is the steak burrito with hatch sauce. That sauce is hauuuuuuuuuuuuut!~ get it on anything. I do not recomend the grand ma margaraita. That shit was horrid and looked like straight up urine. Dont get that. I've been going to CHUY'S regularly for to many years to count. If you are looking for a quick nibble try the NACHO CAR bar (open m-f 4-7 and free) I know lots of people that will go in and get drinks at the bar while enjoying the NACHO CAR bar station. But I have to say I enjoy starting with the NACHO CAR bar and then ordering from the menu. Me and my family enjoy it so much we are known by name by severs and they even know or orders because we are such regulars. The food at Chuy's always seems to be pretty good, I haven't had anything bad here. You can sit in the bar area if you don't mind tiny tables to avoid a wait, and there you refill your own chips/salsa, but both are pretty good. I actually like it more like 4-stars worth but we had a bad experience while trying to feed my brother: On the phone they claimed to have a gluten-free menu but when we got there, the "gluten free menu" had two entrees: Veggie enchiladas with no sauce and a chicken salad minus the chicken (and maybe dressing? I forget). So if you're some kind of strange human who doesn't need protein in their supper, maybe it's ok, but my brother isn't. They won't even vouch for their corn chips, which have no reason to contain wheat flour. So if you are looking for a Celiac's Disease-friendly place, don't believe the guy on the phone that says that there's a GF menu, there isn't. read more

I had forgotten about the suburban weekend wait at Chuy's. The crowds come out in masses, and you can sometimes barely breath in the "waiting" area. I knew there was a Chuy's in Plano, but it wasn't until we were making a drive out to Mansfield, that we saw this Chuy's and decided to stop. We hadn't been to one in almost 2 years since we left Austin. While we waited on a table, we enjoyed free chips and salsa from the self-serve bar. I will always love Chuy's for the free queso and other goodies that they put out during happy hour. What an awesome deal. For dinner we had fajitas- they were excellent, but didn't have as many bell peppers as I would have liked. I had a Texas Martini with dinner, and it was even better than I remembered. Chuy's is not the best Tex-Mex in the world, but it can hold its own. read more

Don't sit in the bar to eat unless you want to hear all the negative stories about the restaurant and the wait staff! Bartenders should be schooled on proper wait/bartender etiquette!! This is 1 of my fav Tex Mex places. All the locations are good but super busy. My fav is the Elvis green chili chicken. It's a tad spicy for me but its delish. The appetizer sampler is great. I love the taquitos and nachos. I just shake off the jalapenos. read more

Yesterday, Chuy's was PACKED for the happy hour. So packed that we couldn't even get a seat in the bar area. Somewhat depressing. We ended up sitting in the dining area, and still managed to have a good time. The margaritas for happy hour are $4.25 and they are delicious, especially for the price :) . The tortilla soup is great here. It has avocado which is unlike tortilla soup i've traditionally had. The free nacho bar is great during happy hour, and it typically will serve as a dinner substitute. I'll continue to come back here!! read more

Usually I go here and never have issues, however, I went this evening and sat in the open patio. After waiting 20 mins, making eye contact with the waiter multiple times, and seeing the waiter make multiple stops at surrounding tables, I still was never able to order drinks or food. I was hungry, so I just got up and left. I called and spoke with the manager who gave me a weak apology and then asked if I wanted to come back and eat. When I replied, "No thanks", he said Ok and immediately hung up. I gave one star since I didn't even get to eat. read more

I was disappointed on my first visit to Chuy's. Coming in on a Friday night while it was slammed might not have been the brightest idea, but still - the food wasn't "Wow!" enough to make up for the awkward and inconsistent service. In rough chronological order: - We were asked to wait half an hour for a table, which I felt was reasonable. Took a quick walk around the Highlands and came back twenty minutes later, asked if our party was nearly ready. Got a "We *told* you it'd be ready in thirty minutes" as a response. Uh... yes, right, but sometimes parties leave early and lines move a bit quicker than expected. Anyway. - Seated, given chips. Chips good, and menu offers a lot of options. I ordered Chuy's Lite Plate, and filled up on that mixed in with chips. All the food I tried tasted fresh. - A friend's order of guacamole never came, water was filled up every once in a while by different waiters and our chips were re-filled exactly once. Our server bid us farewell with a "Have a good night, I guess, if you can." I... don't think we stiffed him on tips, and I know I generally try to be pretty pleasant. Maybe we didn't look like big spenders? Maybe he was handling a ton of tables, and was stressed? I don't know what it was, but it marred an otherwise fine meal. Eh. read more

I don't get down to 20 that often (usually when I need to stop by Fry's and I'm heading that direction,) but a few weeks ago, I saw that a bunch of new restaurants had opened up in the Arlington Highlands. At first I thought my eyes were deceiving me, but I blinked, rubbed, and cleared them until they were raw, but more importantly, until I was 100% sure that they were not deceiving me -- There was a CHUY'S in there. I've been going to Chuy's since back when there were only 3 (Barton Springs, N. Lamar, and Breaker Ln) in Austin (I think.) Now they are a semi-huge chain all over TX. Somewhat paradoxically, my wife, who had lived in Austin longer than me had NEVER been to Chuy's (or Hula Hut, or Shady Grove, or any of the other Chuy's family restaurants.).....and she bugs me about it every time Chuy's gets brought up in a conversation. So, today was a chance to kill two birds with one stone -- fulfill my wife's longtime desire just for her hubby to take her out to Chuy's, and for me to get some good Tex-Mex. Now that it is a big chain, I was skeptical of Chuy's. However, when we were seated, everything was as it should be: The decor, the silverware in the individually wrapped packets, Jenna Bush drinking heavily at the bar (just kidding.) But, most importantly, the food is just as awesome as ever. I got the Chuy's specialty enchiladas minus the sour cream. We waited about 15 minutes for our order and then BAM -- I had some of the best enchiladas that I've ever had. The blue tortillas, gimmicky as they are, are also puffy, flavorful, and just plain yummy. The chicken and tomatillo sauce were excellent. A great lunch was had by all at Chuy's (my wife said her burrito was everything she had ever hoped for after almost 20 years of NOT going to Chuy's.) (5 star rating reserved until I can ascertain consistency.) I never remember being blown away by Chuy's as much as I was today. If they can do it 1-2 more times, this is easily 5 star Tex-Mex. read more

Oh dang I'm now a big fan of this place! It's full of kitchy Elvis-themed stuff but the food is pretty solid. I loved the super fresh tasting salsa that came to the table. We also tried the queso with ground sirloin, pico, and guac - delicious! I tried a bit without stirring it up and thought it was only okay... after I stirred all the luciousness together... it was great! The margaritas were good with a nice tart flavor and pretty potent. Two of those babies and I was flying! I decided to brave the Elvis green chile fried chicken. A bonless chicken breast pounded out with Lays chips coating it with green chile sauce and cheese. The rice also had green chiles and was actually pretty spicy. If you've read any of my other mexi-reviews you'd know what a flour tortilla fanatic I am. The tortillas here do not disappoint! You know they're good when they leave a delicate flour dusting on your hands once you touch them. They are hand-made by a couple of ladies on a griddle towards the back. One of my dining partners had the chicken tortilla soup and said it was the best of her life. So, I look forward to having that next time (if I can just get over that way more often!) read more

There are lots of TexMex places in Texas, and Chuy's is the best (at least for vegetarians). All the veggie items get little "no cow" symbols on the menu. The best item by far is the special nachos: they have a type of tortilla chip (really, half a small tortilla) that's especially thick just for their nachos (which are covered with vegetarian refried beans, real cheddar cheese, and tons of other toppings). I often order the special nachos as an entree; they're that good. The staff is always nice and generally funny. It's an eclectic place and proud of it. Expect things like a framed pet photo room, a salsa bar in a car, and a disturbing Elvis obsession throughout the place. The lines are often long at mealtimes (I've waited 45 minutes before) but it's worth it. Spend your waiting time at the bar or browsing the bizarre/hilarious t-shirts. This is a very inexpensive place (at least for the veggie items) and frankly, should charge more. read more

Being in Texas for the weekend i was craving some true Tex Mex so my brother and I checked out Chuy's and the food was great. The service was exemplary and staff was very friendly so definitely have to give credit where due. If you like the Americanized Tex-Mex style of Mexican food, then you will LOVE this place. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, drive past. (But then if you were looking for authentic, you wouldn't be looking for your Mexican food in a ubiquitous suburban strip mall with the AMC theater, Lowes hardware and Gap/Old Navy shops) The food portions are more than ample, the quality and taste is just as tasty and satisfying as you'd expect. They have some unique dishes and GREAT sauces - especially the Creamy Jalapeno (sort of a ranch dressing with a spiced up kick). I put this on everything and almost licked the bowl clean. Nice margaritas too. Between Chuy's and Chevy's, I still give Chevy's 1 point more because the Chevy's margarita is better, but all in all, if this is what you are hankering to eat tonight, I will recommend my friends go here. read more

A group of 7 went here for dinner Friday night.. 30 minute wait.. but so worth it! Nothing on the menu is over 10 bucks (except the fajitas) and the portions are huge. Everyone got something different -- Big As Yo' Face Burrito, Rellenos, Enchiladas, Chicken Tortilla soup, Elvis Presley Memorial combo (5 items!), and fajitas for two. Sopapillas and tres leches for dessert.. omg we were so stuffed we all went home and forgot about catching a movie! I had their 'famous' margaritas while we waited and although it was pretty good I'm not sure I would quite call it famous. The chips were better than a lot of restaraunt's, very thin and crispy but some of the chips were showered in salt (and I actually like salty food). I got the enchilada (roasted chicken & cheese with deluxe tomatillo sauce) and chicken chalupa combo: deeelish. Be warned though, the chalupa is not like Taco Bell's ;) -- side note: I only recently started enjoying mexican food lol! The tres leches for dessert was sooooo moist , I've never had one before and now I feel like I've been missing out on so much in life haha. Date night venue! Brought TB (Teddy Bear) here for date-night since he's never been and he LOVED it! He had the burrito w/the "boom boom" sauce and I had enchiladas w/the "boom boom" sauce and a margarita... Needless to say, everything was AWESOME! Even though it was a Saturday evening (before Easter Sunday) the service was really quick and the atmosphere was cool. We waited for a table for all of .2seconds. What I can say? I love kitschy, and Chuy's fits that to a tee. My coworkers took me to Chuy's for my first delve into some Tex Mex. One of my coworkers says that Chuy's is a place of legend down in Texas and something about the quesos here is what it was ALL about. The quesos are different types of cheese sauce that they slather on some of their dishes. This restaurant is located in an area of urban sprawl which I learned is synonymous in Texas and filled with several chain restaurants, clothing stores, and anything else that I may have been looking for. As I walked-in, there was a shrine to the king himself -- Elvis. That's right you Californians reading this, this place had a place of honor for Elvis, and their mascot is also, well, the King. Awesome, huh? We were seated, and our nice waitress brought out some pretty tasty, freshly fried tortilla chips, and some great salsas. I ended-up ordering a chimichanga that was filled to the hilt of white chicken meat, and topped with a great queso sauce that lived up to what my coworker had gushed love about. The service was super friendly, and she brought out ice tea faster than I could even come close to finishing it, and came back several times to check on how our meal was going. So polite ... so not Californian, I DEFINITELY was in Texas. This place is definitely something that the King himself would love, and in such a good way. They do sell t-shirts with their Elvis mascot on it, so definitely worth a stop by if you are an Elvis fan. read more

Came here with my family on my birthday. I was incredibly impressed with the service and all around dining experience I had here. Alex, our server was so attentive, informative and made us feel incredibly welcomed and like we were the only people she had to serve. All attributes of a GREAT server! I had the chicken enchiladas with salsa verde. So good. One thing I liked about this place is they offered various options of salsas in a variety of heat levels. We got 3 salsas ranging from hot to ketchup! The one I like the best was the creamy jalapeno salsa, which to me was like a chopped up jalapeno in ranch dressing....how bad can that be! The margaritas here are excellent too! But again, the service and friendliness is what really impressed me with this place. Way to go Alex!! read more

I came here twice in the last few days. The 1st time this week the service AMAZING. My waitress name was Ashley and she was on top of things. She did everything exceedingly well. This second visit the waitress didn't smile upon walking to the table. She basically walked up and asked if we were ready to order brought the food back and that's it. We didn't get napkins, never came back to check on us and I practically had to Flag her down for a refill. She smiled when she brought my ticket by then we were through eating. I guess that smile was for a tip but I didn't feel she deserved one and I always tip when I get good service. I hate going places spending money and getting poor service. This won't stop me from coming to Chuys I'll just remember her face and will request another waitress if I ever get her again. The food was great as always but The Queso was too salty so we had to send that back. Got another bowl and didn't eat it because it was too salty as well. I'll come back to this location but I wouldn't allow this girl to wait on our table anymore. I shouldn't have to flag anyone down for ONE refill. read more

I ate at Chuy's restaurant because I heard good things about it, and because it looked like a fairly upstanding place from the outside, nice decor, etc. Unfortunately I was a victim of some Texans thinking that Tex-Mex=Mexican food, which is unfortunately not the case. The salsa was bland and not very hot, the chips were thin and broke easily (I know some people like these, I do not) and I have had better refried beans out of a can. Not only was this not authentic Mexican food (it was Tex-Mex), but it just wasn't very good food, period. I would definitely not pay to eat there, although I would probably go back if someone was offering a free lunch and I was very hungry and could not convince them to go somewhere else. read more

The Arlington location - while technically a "chain" location - is the best Chuy's that I have been to outside of the original in Austin. There is nothing that can touch the Austin original - but it's a lot easier for me to get to Arlington. Make sure you ask your server for a bowl of the creamy jalapeno - I was introduced to this in Austin and can't eat at Chuy's without it any more. All their salsa blends are fun, and make you appreciate the margarita that you should be enjoying. Service is always friendly, and there is nothing on the menu that has not been very good. Start with a bowl of queso with their spicy taco meat. Both the enchiladas and the burritos are good choices - and the fajitas are my wife's favorite. read more

We attempted to have lunch at this establishment but left dissapointed... While walking up to the restaurant, we noticed the noise coming from inside so we knew it was going to be a busy lunch crowd, no problem. However we did notice the patio was less crowded and seemed available. Once we walked in, we were asked where we wld like to be seated. Well of course we said the patio. After which, we were told there wasn't any more tables available outside (even though we had just seen at least three). So we agreed to sit inside. Not three minutes later, we witnessed a couple being escorted to the patio. Well... I went back to the podium to inform them we wld like to be seated on the patio only to be given dirty looks. Needless to say, we left and enjoyed our time at a more appreciative establishment. It'll be a while for us to give them another try... read more

Texas doesn't have Mexican food like California does. Texas has Tex-Mex and if you want good Tex-Mex; I'd recommend you stop in at Chuy's I ate there twice in the last 2 weeks while visiting family and not being a fan of Mexican food, I really liked their food. Regardless of the night you go on, Chuy's is always busy, the nosy level can be a little loud but don't let that scare you away. It's a big restaurant and on both occasions the most we had to wait was 10min during peak dinner hours. I would highly recommend the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom as it was very good. Follow that up with a Swirl Margrarita (2 margaritas swirled together in one glass) and you'll be on cloud nine. I'd also recommend trying their Tres Leches Cake. I had never tried it before but after having it I will now be looking for it on other restaurants menu. I never knew how moist a cake could be until I tried it. It was in short heaven in my mouth and Chuy's gives you a pretty big piece so make sure you have someone there to help you eat it. If I'm ever to even pass through Texas, I know where I am eating. read more

If you like tex-mex, this is a pretty good choice. The chips & salsa are good, although I like salsa to be a little more runny and a little less pico-like. I always get a side of the green chile sauce for the chips and it's delicious. The "big as yo face" burrito is just as described. Lots of refried beans, cheese, and chicken. I can't ever finish it in one sitting, probably because I'm too full of chips and green chile sauce. The service was great, especially with the after church rush that a Sunday morning brings. Every time we've been here our service has been good. The margaritas are just OK, I don't really come here to drink. A 5 star rating would be in order if the margaritas were awesome.
