I went four times as I couldn't get enough and wish I had gone more! I had the robalo (sea bass) and dourada (golden bream) and the churrasquino de porco preto (twice) - all grilled of course. Both fishes were amazing (but especially the dourada). If you're not familiar with "porco preto," black Iberian pigs, you should definitely introduce yourself as this pork is in a league of its own. I paired each dish with a glass of vinho verde. Ilena served me each dinner and she was a wonderful server and made laugh. I made a point to express my gratitude to the kitchen. The restaurant is in the heart of the Cascais historic district and has beautiful photos of old Cascais on the wall. This is a must-do spot for dinner. It was served simply, with rice and French fries. The flan was house made, the perfect texture with a hint of orange and a caramel sauce with just the right sweetness. As we were travelers and do not know much Portuguese at all, they still made us feel welcome and had good English language skills.

The "couvert" was fish pate from a tin, not made in-house, but it's Portugal, so the tinned fish was still great, obviously. The olives with it were just ok, but the bread was great. I was also happy that they did, indeed, understand that we were going to share it, but only wanted a couvert plate serving for one (I hadn't been sure.) I was a little sad my wife really wanted red meat that day, so we couldn't get the seafood sampler platter for 2, but her pork chop was also great, I know because it was also huge, so I ended up eating like a third of it. Also perfectly cooked and seasoned, and it did go great with fries. The fries were also great, too, super freshly made and perfectly crispy, though the one downside, everything else but the fries were ready super quickly, then the fries showed up after we were about halfway done eating the rest of it. Definitely freshly cooked, though! Also unlike the place the previous day that served us exceptionally mediocre squid the previous day, they also sell very affordable wines here. They have a good number of extremely reasonably priced half-bottles of all types, but we didn't need a whole half-bottle of wine, so I just got a glass of the house white, which was, at least as of a couple months ago, only 2.5 euros! The restaurant is much larger than anticipated, spanning across a few floors. Servers were friendly and gave amazing recommendations, even stopping us from ordering too much. The sangria was one of the best we've had and the bread was excellent with the butter the cheese. They do charge for these starters, but it's listed on the menu. I made the mistake of eating too much bread before our mains came. We enjoyed the clams and grouper head with a side of greens and potatoes. everything was delicious! It's big enough to share for two, and we still couldn't manage to finish all the food. We wanted to try dessert as it was our last meal in Lisbon, but unfortunately ate way too much and couldn't stomach anything else. Would highly, highly recommend this restaurant! They also gave all the ladies a parting gift (a single flower), which I thought was a cute touch. Paid via credit card and they didn't ask for us to leave a tip.

They took away part of it and left the rest. We just decided what the hell and ate some of it. The cured meat (I forget what kind) left a strange film under my tongue I've never experienced eating similar meat so I didn't eat much of it. The cod was very bony. Parts of it were cooked beautifully and parts were very overcooked and chewy. The potatoes were too salty but well cooked. The greens had grit in them and crunched uncomfortably in my teeth. The steak was lovely but the accompanying rice was hard and bland. It was the only place I've eaten in Portugal (and I've tried a pretty large variety of types) where the sever held the credit card machine in front of me asking if I wanted to enter a tip as I was in the process of looking at the bill and paying. I would have tipped anyway but it was definitely off-putting. Maybe the hype is just residue from a bygone era?
