I was pleased with the products that I ordered in this Church's today. This location has ample seating inside, with practically no one around, very quiet. The bulk of the business comes to the drive-through to place orders. I prefer to go dine inside. The store was very clean and the Customer service from the staff members was stellar. No complaints. I was very stoked about trying the pineapple pie, the seasonal summer flavor. Hot, sweet, crispy, and yummy. My only wish was that it would've been larger. I finished it quite quickly. First, I was greeted with what appeared to be an automated representative asking if I was going to order with an app. (I wasn't) Then another question or two and I was speaking to a live person. Interesting and to be honest, a bit off-putting. I ordered the classic chicken sandwich and a large okra, along with a large Diet Coke. The okra pieces were tiny, perhaps the smallest I have ever seen in a fast food or other restaurant. They tasted fine but smaller meant the proportion of batter to volume, well, underwhelming again. I've never eaten at a Church's Chicken so I didn't know what to expect. I ended up getting four of their special meals which came with either tenders or two pieces of chicken two sides and a biscuit. As far as price go it certainly measures up to or Beats other chicken places. I had the tenders, and they were delicious! A good piece of meat nicely breaded, fresh and hot! The biscuit was delicious I wish I had about a dozen more. The coleslaw was good, not a ton of sauce on it but it was still good. The only flaw I could see was that we didn't get any sauce with our meal. We did get silverware, but no dipping sauce or anything like that. Quite honestly I probably wouldn't have used it as the tenders stood alone.. but I was expecting them. The drink (Diet Coke) was really sweet and didn't taste good, I opened the food at home and only had 2 pieces of chicken. Crispy skin but no flavor. The fries were cooked perfectly and crunchy. As far as fast food goes, this place is right up there with Popeyes. Churches Texas fried chicken is new to Modesto, but have it in Stockton and the Bay area around here. I really enjoyed the fried chicken. The wraps were good, just a little small, in my opinion. The mash potatoes I would compare to KFC. My only grippe would be that they serve the mash potatoes and gravy in the same container. So, if you are sharing, the first person can end up taking all the gravy. The coleslaw was a nice surprise. I usually only like KFC coleslaw. Churches Coleslaw is a strong second, which is a good thing because I don't even want to eat Popeyes coleslaw for free, haha. The fried okra I got for my dad, he didn't care for it. I loved the honey glazed biscuits. Pro tip: the apple pies are a better deal getting a 4 pack. And your going to want 4 haha. I could have ate a dozen of them. I can't see a time I don't order the pies when I go. Glad to have another good fried chicken place in town. This place just opened up on 08/24/2024, where BurgerKing used to be. Same building on Standiford and Prescott. I recommend waiting a few weeks to allow for the newness and crowds to die down. If you do go, pack your patience and wallet because they are not fast and not cheap. They offer the standard fried chicken and sides fare that Popeyes and KFC offer. I ordered (2) 2pc spicy combos, which include small sides biscuits and a drink. I also made substitution for breasts only in the two-piece combos. The breasts were GINORMOUS, at least Double D's. I also ordered 3pc chicken strip combo original recipe, and 6 extra honey biscuits. Order came to $60 and change. All-in-all, it is like Popeyes with a little bit different flavor. I probably like Church's slightly better. Oh, and they did screw up my order, so I had to come back. I waited so long to get through the drive-thru and then had to pull to front and wait another twenty minutes because they were out of spicy, so I just wanted to get home. My bad for not checking order before leaving. I think they will be fine once they get the kinks worked out. My 3 stars is for the long ass drive-thru wait and the messing up the order. The food is your standard fare like I said, so really not something you rate. You either like it or you don't. Rating places like this is more about service and accuracy IMO. What a disappointment. I would never go back. The quality of the chicken was so bad. I love chicken and have wanted to try this place forever but this is a one and done. The server was very nice in the drive thru but they are understaffed. I only saw two people working and the quality shows. They were so slow but it was because you had two people doing everything. The chicken was scorching hot. This was fresh out of the deep fryer type of hot. I can deal with that but the rubbery chewy texture of it was not good. If I hadn't been halfway home I would have went back in. Honestly, it tasted like frozen chug that was dropped in a scorching hot oil and cooked fast. I don't know how else to describe it. We had churches when it was on coffee rd (so long ago). So we were excited to try it! The restaurant itself is very minimalist. Very warm in the lobby. Bathroom was too bare. You have to ask for sauces/refills/utensils etc, which can be a hassle esp if it's busy. I still prefer Popeyes sandwich better. Although the okra and the bombers were delicious. I have to say, this place did me right. I placed my order on the app on my way home on Friday and evidently they forgot to include the mashed potato and the coleslaw. By the time I got home, I didn't realize until my family pointed out that they had forgotten my coleslaw and my mashed potato. I spoke to one of their shift supervisors and made up for my missing sides. They took care of me, unlike other restaurants or fast food places or even yet fried chicken places. I don't see how this place has such low rating with yelp. The staff are very courteous... Knowledgeable and no what to do when something goes wrong. The price is pretty comparable to other fried chicken restaurants, and after having their fried chicken, the quality is above average in my opinion. It's been over 40 years since I had churches fried chicken (in the East Coast). I am definitely coming back here the next time my family decides to have fried chicken for dinner. We are from out of town and traveled specifically to this church's to have the fried chicken. We were a larger group so we bought several family meals, mixed bone in, chicken tenders, most of the sides, drinks, and their amazing new pineapple pies. Everything was hot and fresh, we were warned about the pies needing sometime to make but for us it was not a problem waiting 10-15 minutes extra. The food was sooooo delicious, juicy chicken, piping hot fries and sides. It was so yumz that we just had to take some home with us. The staff was incredibly friendly, talkative, and willing to assist us with all our needs from refills, to packets of honey each one of the team members were there to greet us with a smile and ready to help. I was also curious about the FIFA soccer balls and was looking for a specific one so they went above and beyond and called the other church's to see if they had the soccer ball we were looking for and they did! I don't know what happened with all those negative reviews and their dining experience but ours was faaaaab! The only thing good here is the drive-thru experience-- it's quite a line but they are relatively quick. Forget about the chicken- the regular is bland, and the spicy tastes strange. The spicy chicken's batter seems to be one that doesnt crisp up but they fry it to high heavens hoping it does, so it feels like a thin hard bread around a juicy chicken. There is also something off-putting about the spicy chicken's taste...either they fried it in rancid oil or the marinade/batter has anchovy or fish sauce. The fries are soggy and tasteless. They served me old food both times I went. I'll never go again. The first time , my fries were so cold and stiff that I requested fresh fries. The kid at the window disappeared and reappeared in a few minutes and handed me my fries back. They were still horrible. I think they just threw them back into hot oil. Pretty foolish move.
