So I ordered take out...walked inside and didn't have high expectations. Wasn't a fancy place at all. Ordered the spinach, eggplant, sausage, ricotta personal size and the clam, white, add tomatoes. I think they forgot my sausage on the first but it really didn't matter. This was some of the best pizza I've ever had. Brick oven, plenty of topping and great ingredients. Crust was awesome....cooked just right. If I could give six stars I would've. This place is right around the corner from where I live and I feel dumb for never stopping here before. Chunky Tomato is a nice little pizza place in Bristol, standing out in a town full of the standard Greek-style joints that all seem to blur together (no offense to any particular one of those places, by the way). So far I've had their pepperoni and buffalo chicken pizzas, and I can safely say their pepperoni is the best I can remember eating from a place in Bristol. I'm personally a fan of the tiny pepperonis that tend to curl up when cooking over the larger, thinner slices most pizza places use. Another plus for me is their style of buffalo chicken, mainly for what they DON'T use - marinara sauce. I some places will essentially make a regular pizza topped with pieces of cut-up buffalo chicken, and those always taste "off" to me. Luckily, chunky tomato uses hot sauce and blue cheese as their sauce base, and it produces a much better taste (at least for me). read more

Hands down best pizza in Bristol. A little more expensive then average but worth it. The first pizza I ordered from here was bacon and onion- it was just okay, not spectacular. The next time I ordered a plain cheese and it was the worst cheese pizza I have ever had. Honestly, I've had frozen pizzas that tasted better. They make customers wait outside because of COVID, which is good, but the employees making the food were only wearing face shields and no masks. Additionally, the two kids wearing the face shields had them tipped up so much that there was no way there was any protection. I brought this to the attention of the hostess and she promptly told them to put their shields down. At my second trip to Chunky Tomato, plastic sheeting had been put up to block the view into the kitchen. My guess is that they got more complaints about mask wearing. After my bad pizza experience and the lack of attention to COVID precautions I decided that I won't be visiting this place anymore. West End and Wolcott Pizza are my new favorites. read more

Love the speediness and the consistent quality of each pie! We ordered a small goat for two of us this weekend. I was really happy at how good this pie was and the price was excellent. We also got a chop salad and cannoli to complete our dinner. The salad was a decent size that both of us split and had left overs. Chunky Tomato definitely has the best pizza in Bristol and probably the surrounding areas as well. Every time I pick it up it is always fresh and hot out of the oven, being boxed as I walk in! They also make homemade canolies here...to die for!! Definitely try them for a perfect after-pizza dessert. On this particular trip it was late and my coworker and I were not up for driving down, so we decided to explore Yelp for alternative closer options since we were still in the mood for pizza. Chunky Tomato popped up with top notch reviews, and since it was also billed as Italian style, we decided to check it out. We almost missed it when driving, as it is a fairly unobtrusive storefront in a sleepy small strip. The place is obviously geared more toward take out, but since there was one table, we decided to eat in. Thursday nights are personal pizza night, meaning the personal size is discounted. We ordered 3 to get a range of flavors: Meat Lover, White Clam, and the Spinach, Eggplant & Ricotta. Each pizza was fantastic and full of flavor, and the spread across the 3 was different enough that there were lots of flavors to experience. The Meat Lover was hearty and a great all meat option. The White Clam's flavor was delicious and, even more importantly, not fishy, which ironically enough is a problem I have had with white clam pizzas at some of the New Haven style places. Our favorite, however, was the Sausage Eggplant & Ricotta. The melding of flavor and texture on this pie was delightful and much better than I expected. The pies here are true Italian style, the ingredients are top notch, and the preparation is fantastic. I don't think you can go wrong here on a pizza, and I hear their sandwiches are great too! They even do pizza by the slice, so I am envisioning picking up lunch here at some point in the future when I am back in town. The owner was super personable and even offered us a free t shirt (granted kids size) if we ate all the pizza we ordered. We of course couldn't bend to that challenge, and we not only ate all the pizza but even got some mini pumpkin cannolis which were also quite tasty. The prices are very good for what you get, and of course the food as already mentioned is fantastic. As I mentioned earlier, the place is tiny and is mostly suited for takeout, which they apparently do a ton of. One of the most fun aspects of sitting and eating in the restaurant was seeing and conversing with all the local regulars who came in to pick up their To Go orders (and they thought it was cool that the restaurant had some out of town visitors from Seattle!). I do LOVE their pizza, however, frequently when I am only buying a meal for myself, I get the steak sandwich!!! their rolls are PERFECTION and this is REAL STEAK, not that chopped up crap!!! Steak, caramelized onions, Provolone, and a little salt & pepper and it is perfect. It does not even need mayo or ANY kind of dressing of any kind. the pizza is wonderful, and you have to try their Pizza Margarita, especially in the summer months with local, sweet tomatoes and the fresh basil. PERFECTION!!! Try the cannolis too!! EVERYTHING is excellent and fresh! Ohhhhh how their business would increase if they offered delivery. That is the ONE INGREDIENT that it's missing. read more

We ordered take out from here last. We were pleasantly surprised. The pizza was tasty and fresh. The sauce does live up to its name, chunky, which I really enjoyed. We also ordered the Chicken Parmesan dinner. There was a plethora if pasta but not enough sauce to cover. The chicken was tasty and perfectly cooked. The ratio of sauce to cheese and chicken here was spot on. My only comment would be there was way too much pasta to the amount of chicken you get. Overall our first experience was great. My friend and I ordered a pizza, caesar salad, buffalo wings, and cannolis. The pizza was pepperoni, bacon, olives, and onions. The onions were a bit of a mistake as they were long and stringy and made eating the slices a bit of a challenge, but the quality was good overall. 4/5 The wings were a bit too vein-y for my friend's taste, and while I didn't mind them too much, she couldn't continue to eat them.2.5/5 The caesar salad was very plain, the croutons were very hard and again a bit of a deterrent for my friend 1.5/5 The cannolis were good.3.5/5 I'd definitely try them again read more

I had my hopes super high, but unfortunately I was a bit let down. They advertised their chicken cutlet sandwich as "made to order" - but the chicken sadly was a frozen cutlet which I try to stay away from. My family and I have been buying pizza from the Vita family for at least a decade. We were heartbroken when Vita's closed on Farmington Avenue a few years ago, but then Chunky Tomato opened! During the interim while Vita's was closed and before we discovered Chunky Tomato, we tried different pizza places in Bristol and Terryville but could not find anything we liked. We ordered a large buffalo chicken pizza and added bacon. A plum meatball and chicken parm sandwich. As well as a personal meatball calzone. All items were very good, the pizza was excellent. There are a lot of pizza places in Bristol. All of relatively the same. This one is a bit different in that it's a thinner crust pizza with some more creative pizza styles. I would certainly take out from here again next time we are looking to order pizza. If you're into buffalo chicken pizza, get it and add bacon. It really was excellent. Very impressed. read more
