I went there for breakfast a few Saturdays ago. I ordered the Lechon Hash which has lechon asado, mojo onions, and a fried egg. In reality, the hash was about 75 percent onions which were pretty bland and tasteless. Every bite I took was mostly onions. The prime rib croquetas are super good though. Yum! I was excited to try Chugs! It did not disappoint. I went for lunch and sat at the counter. I asked the server for recommendations. He suggested the Pan con Bistec. The bread was fresh. The meat was tender and flavorful, horseradish aioli was delicious and some sort of crumbled bread topping. It was served with fries and an au jus. I highly recommend this sandwich. The service was pleasant, attentive and knowledgeable. Mask wearing was haphazard and those who wore gloves (including my server) did not change or wash hands between tasks which included food handling, removal of dirty dishes with fingers in glasses and money handling. Had been looking forward to Chug's for sometime and I must say we left extremely disappointed and dissatisfied. For starters, we were a birthday party of 10. We couldn't be accommodated inside so were sat in the courtyard which was fine except it had to have been the coldest day of the year and Chug's was not prepared with any heating lamps for outdoor guests, which included senior citizens. That was fail number one. The following issues included over priced cuban food, mediocre dishes (yuca tots - not what we expected AT ALL) and cold soup. Finally the one thing we were most excited about (as it was cold) was churros and hot chocolate only to learn they had run out of both. Last and final issue was the bathroom which had not been tended to in a whole. No toilet paper or hand towels and a whole lot of paper shreds over the floor. Needless to say, the overall experience was pretty horrible. Staff was pleasant and understanding when I mentioned the bathroom needed servicing. That's all the concern we voiced as it was the final straw. Giving credit where it is due, I will give a thumbs up on inside decor and music. I wish we would've enjoyed the warmth in there too. read more

We had an undesirable experience at Chug's Diner in Coconut Grove. My girlfriend and I decided to try Chug's for the first time late morning/early afternoon on a Saturday. There were many open tables for inside and outside dining but yet the hostess informed us that there would be a 45 minute wait. I politely asked the reason for the wait and she politely responded that the inside tables were reserved for those that come in strictly for service from the coffee bar. It seemed odd to us but we complied and put our names on the list. We received a text confirming that we were on the list but then nothing. After 45 minutes, I approached the hostess to get an update. As I approached her, another couple, with no reservations, were immediately attended to and given an outside table. My husband went in here a while back. Younger guy behind the counter- my husband asked if they had a Cuban sandwich. The younger guy smirked and said no. From the moment we arrived, lots of excuses in this place for bad service. Our family arrived for breakfast on a Monday mid-morning. The hostess was nowhere to be found, we were one of 3 parties waiting in line to be seated, and the employee behind the counter said the hostess was "somewhere." She finally returned and seated us, but no server ever came to our table in the 15 minutes we sat there. No acknowledgement, no "I'll be right with you," no menu, no water. When we asked the hostess if she could send over our server, she pointed to the woman 2 booths behind us and said she was serving another customer. In fact, that man customer had already paid for their meal and the woman server had been chatting him for a nice long time, and never once looked up to see if her other customers needed to order. Chugs was a let down. I don't know what to call this place. It feels like Latin/Cuban fusion but I feel that some items will be a hit and others will simply not impress. The yuca balls impressed but everything went downhill after that. Poor tasting egg salad that was more bread than anything else...and folks eggs and bread are the operative word here, no lettuce, no tomato, no nothing extra except hot sauce if you want it. I went with my mom, she had the pan con lechon. She claimed that it was a touch on the sour side, not sure what they stuck in there. Another surprise was only 3 inside tables of 2 people each, after that it's outside only seating. I'm nervous seeing 5 star ratings here as nothing on that menu would make me feel that it would deserve that. Service on the other hand was friendly and consistent.
