We stopped here during a hurricane evacuation and I was shocked we had randomly found such a gem! The place was packed but the owner tried his absolute best to find us a table. The atmosphere was nice, perfect for a date night. The food was absolutely delicious! I had a the TNT roll which is a little on the pricey side for sushi and I don't regret a dime. The sushi was simple but that's what made it so good. The flavors were made to complement each other and you could taste the freshness of the fish. Had a 7:15 reservation for my spouse's birthday, actually arrived early and was seated. This was my second visit with first visit being "ok", nothing spectacular. Restaurant was relatively busy. First of all, this place is in an old building with brick walls, concrete floor and a high hard ceiling. When even half full, the acoustics are horrible and it gets very loud. Menu is good, but prices are moderately high-but I don't so much mind that if experience and meal is top notch. We ordered and our food arrived at 8:50. One item ordered was "Uptown Shrimp", described as Panko fried with Asian slaw and some type of drizzle. Shrimp were small-probably frozen and imported-not the kind of shrimp you expect from the Gulf in this seafood producing city-appearing batter fried and smothered in a sweet Asian sauce. The "slaw" was shredded cabbage only, no seasoning or dressing. Rather than being crispy and light coating, it was thick and soggy. Reminded me of a $6.95 dish from a Chinese take out, but this was $18. The fresh fish was tasty, but portion hardly worth the $40 price. As far as ambiance, we had to basically yell at each other to talk. Waitress was very friendly, not sure if the 1.5 hour wait on food was her or the kitchen. I would say Chuck's, part of a large restaurant group both in Mobile and at least 3 other cities, mostly delivers the goods. I have now been there back to back Saturday nights, once with my wife for a date night dinner and theater outing and the next solo for a burger at the bar and a concert afterward. The first evening I requested upstairs seating which felt less harried than the downstairs bar scene centric experience. If you want a more quiet or low key dinner DO NOT sit downstairs on a busy night. Back to the meal. We started with the spring rolls, which if you're truly in the know about spring rolls will unequivocally be a disappointment. There are closer to a chinese style egg roll, deep fried and significantly lacking in ingredients inside. Our entrees however were spot-on. I had the grouper, the fish of the day at $34. I nice portion which shared the plate with a broccoli infused risotto and asparagus properly - meaning al dente - cooked. My wife had the chicken piccata accompanied by a rice pilaf and the aforementioned asparagus. All good. Made me want to come back. Also, Chuck's offers a corkage fee option, and for that reason alone we will be back. So, come back I did. Walked in looking for a burger. Sometimes you're in the mood for something before you even walk into a restaurant. Perused the beer list because while I am more so a wine guy the burger/beer combo never fails as long as the have a good burger and good beer. Unfortunately that didn't happen. The beer selection here, all cans or botttles, will disappoint most discerning, knowledgeable (isn't that almost everyone these days?) beer drinkers. I had a Haint IPA that was serviceable but I had only one. I wanted more but wasn't parting with my $$ with that selection. Then came the $14 burger, overpriced by somewhere between $4-6. A respectable 8oz portion with cheddar, l&t, 2 small pickles and fresh onion slices & a bun that was fresh but boring. Allow me to take you to Sunset Point in Fairhope, where the $13.50 burger comes with a double patty, cheese, carmelized onion, 2 large strips of bacon, & l&t. I do not recommend the burger here unless underwhelming is what you want. For $14, you need to upgrade your burger Chris. There is a movement these days in the restaurant biz to really underdeliver with the burger while charging totally ridiculous prices. Add this restaurant to the list. Caveat emptor on the burger. Couple of additional points...every server I've had here has been great. The bartender with the glasses, dark hair, petite, was totally professional and quietly nice. read more

Words cannot express how excited I was when I heard Chuck's was opening up in my neighborhood. During undergrad, the Chuck's location in Tuscaloosa was mine and my friends go-to spot for special occasions or when our parents replenished our bank accounts. Since the Mobile location has opened, I've become become a more frequent patron and honestly, it's the only place I go when I'm craving sushi! The way Chuck's is set up is really great. If you're just ordering sushi, the hostess will try to seat you upstairs over downstairs, however both the dinner menu and sushi menu are available on both floors. I have never tried the dinner menu at this location, only because the sushi at Chuck's is too fresh and too delicious to pass up. Some of my favorites are the Rainbow roll, the Kenji roll, and the Amazon roll. Another favorite is the Donkey on Crack roll. It's not on the menu, but be sure to ask your waiter about it to see if you would like it! Tuesday nights are Ladies Night at Chuck's featuring $2 off all rolls and drink specials. When my girlfriends and I go, we love sitting outside on the patio while enjoying the view of the RSA tower. Chuck's is also a great place for a date night, special occasion, or even for just a dinner with friends. Now that I'm out of my college years, I'm glad that I can frequent a Chuck's location more often, and sometimes I'll even splurge and get one of their amazing blondies for dessert! read more

My mom and I we're trying to go somewhere different so I decided to try Chucks. It was a nice venue- downstairs and upstairs. If you want sushi, you have to be seated upstairs (make reservations if you can). There is also a balcony/terrace if you wish to sit outside & a private room if you want a party. We had the crack fries, edamame, stuffed shrimp (highly recommended), and two sushi rolls shown in the picture. Very delicious! I will definitely be back. read more

I've had the opportunity to dine at the Birmingham and Tuscaloosa locations, however, Mobile's staff is a bit too causal in demeanor and in dress. The jeans and button down or t-shirt dress is great but I don't want to see management in daisy dukes and waiters in sheer like Yoga pants when I'm paying $80 for a full course dining experience. Also, worth mentioning, taking an Alcoholic drink from one table to another after sitting at the wrong table for ten minutes is a BIG no no. Sushi, the fresher the better! I haven't eaten many of the regular menu items at Chuck's, however the sushi is by far the best in town, and possibly some of the best I have eaten! Located on Dauphin street, you kinda have to look for it, its at the corner of Cedar and Dauphin, but there's only one small sign outside of the door, trust me its worth the hunt. There's ample street parking so, just kinda look around but it's there. The decor is really cool, dark hardwoods, soft lighting, repurposed surfaces, and don't miss the art, the picture hanging over the bar is hand drawn with colored pencils and is one of the cooler pieces I have seen! We frequent Chuck's during the week as this location doesn't accept reservations, but you can use the No Wait application to find out what the wait is and get on the list ahead of time! If you're gonna eat sushi they try and sit your party upstairs as thats where the sushi bar is located. They typically have 2 or three sushi chefs so there's not usually a long wait from the time you order till its delivered. We always start the meal with either the Seaweed Salad, which is a good size, fresh and set on a ring of cucumber, or the Crack fries in a bag, which they describe as "crack seasoning and parmesan" covered fries. For dinner I typically I order the Rainbow roll which is made up of shrimp, cucumber, wasabi, and then pieces of tuna, yellowtail & fresh salmon on top. First of all, its always super fresh and tastes absolutely phenomenal but from the pictures you can see it's also colorful. She orders whatever roll she wants which was on this occasion was the Amazon roll. The Amazon roll consists of tuna, green onions,cream cheese, tempura, spicy sauce, topped in avocado & crab salad. For dessert, we finished off with the Blondie Sundae! Its made of a brown sugar brownie topped in Cammie's Old Dutch vanilla ice cream and caramel! Our servers are always fabulous. Attentive without being all over you, never really having to wait for a refill, knowledgeable about the menu and the options available to all the diners. The staff also seems to take personal ownership of how your meal tastes and how the experience has been! I would like them to start doing reservations but the No wait option is a game changer! All in all, Chuck's is the place to eat sushi in downtown Mobile and in my humble opinion the best in the city! read more

I recently took my family there and had reservations for 6 but later I found out that all could go so I needed seating for 10, the gentleman I spoke to explained that he couldn't add more so we were offered outside on the upstairs patio, it was a little warm but that was because one of the oscillating fans didn't move. The food was fair but to my opinion VERY overpriced and very small portions. My youngest granddaughter wanted some scallops because she wasn't happy with her burger so they charged her $20. for 2 scallops, sorry but that's just a bit much. I guess that id rate it as mediocre and not sure I will go back. There is lots of potential there but to my opinion they haven't found their grove. Drinks were nothing great and higher than other restaurants. Hopefully you will listen to my review and not just pass it by. read more

So I've been hearing all the hype of Chuck's Fish House for the last 3 weeks and wanted to go check it out myself. I have to say, I am incredibly impressed. My friend and I went last night after getting off of work (Chuck's is open til 11- YAYYY!) at about 10 pm, and we found them still with quite a few tables downstairs -- and even still on a wait for the upstairs sushi. (One thing to note, the signage on the building is only a tiny "kitch-ily" painted wooden sign on the Cedar Street side of the building of a man (I'm assuming Chuck), and it says Chuck's fish -- ALSO -- the door is on the Cedar St side as well). We wanted to go for sushi so we put our name down and saw some friends and chatted with them a bit before we were able to go upstairs and get two prime seats at the sushi bar. All the hostesses, sushi chefs and servers we encountered were incredibly sweet and welcoming. Downstairs has a more formal white tablecloth vibe, while upstairs is more hip and chic with wooden tables and very hip more upbeat music. Both Yoshi (absolutely wonderful little vibrant Japanese lady sushi chef) and Raze/Rais/Rays the gentleman sushi chef were very welcoming and positive with their engagement of us, while still having the vast majority of tables still full. Ok, to the menu and food. Upstairs you have sushi on one side of the menu and cooked kitchen offerings on the other. There were so many choices we wanted to try that I KNOW we will be back. We decided on a CUCUMBER SALAD (simply done, and delicious) SALMON SASHIMI -- beautifully presented and good quality -- and with shiso leaf and both shredded (beet soaked) daikon and regular. :) that made me very happy. FRIED OYSTERS -- with the sweet soy glaze drizzled on them and their sambal chili sauce on the side, served on a bed of mixed greens - these succulent, plentiful and perfectly fried oysters were the bomb. I think there were probably 7-8 in the dish, seriously a good value. AMAZON ROLL -- topped with crab salad and has tuna, cream cheese, and a few other ingredients -- I was extremely impressed with the flavor combination and the fact that you don't need soy with it at all! OH PAPI -- another roll with tuna inside, avocado, bacon, as well as jalapeño on top -- another one that both of us were incredibly happy with. One of my big things with sushi is sushi rice -- you have to have the right balance of moisture in the rice and the right amount of rice vinegar. Let me say, I was very happy with both. Everything we had was not only good, but I would venture to say Great. Apparently there are special rolls or "hidden menu" items -- and I know of one friend who requested an omakase roll from one of the chefs and was VERY happy with what she got. My mouth is watering and tummy is grumbling because I'm already ready to go back! I usually get more pictures of what I get but I was so hungry and excited that I only took one. I also have to note that our handsome male server (I missed his name) was very knowledgeable and helpful with narrowing down our sushi roll choices. Chuck's Fish House is great. I'm sure they'll be busy for months and years to come. I will certainly be a repeat patron, and bring ALL my fish and sushi and just GOOD FOOD loving friends. Two big thumbs up. read more

We are visiting from out of town and were given the suggestion to try this out. I had the chicken pancetta and my boyfriend got the catch of the day. The food was excellent but the service really needed some help. The waitress was very nice but we waited about 20 minutes for her to take our order and our food ended up coming out before our drinks (which was another 20-30 minutes.)
