First time visiting but definitely will be back when I'm in Valley. Dinning area was clean and the staff was super friendly. I went with the Chunky Pork plate with fries and Cole Slaw. The sandwich was decent, not the best, not the worst, and of a style typical for this area of East Alabama and West Georgia -- pit style with more of a tangy vinegar/mustard sauce. They put slaw on the sandwich if you want it. The price was very reasonable and the service was fine. The place is not fancy, but I would stop in again if hungry when passing through. read more

If you're heading south on I-85 from Atlanta, the Lanett/Valley exit is the first exit you come to in Alabama, even before the Alabama welcome center. It's a great exit to gas up the car and fill your human fuel tank, too, with every fast food joint imaginable in the first three blocks. We landed at Chuck's because it was the first non-fast food or Mexican restaurant we came to. It's a hole in the wall, a plain square cinder block building, but don't let that intimidate you. You order from the counter and we all got the special, which was a chipped sandwich (pork), one side, a bag of Lay's and a drink for $6. The sandwich comes with bbq slaw and pickles on it, but I opted out of the slaw. I chose Brunswick stew as my side. It was decent bbq, moist and juicy, but not spectacular. If you like smoked meat that doesn't require sauce then you'll be pleased with Chuck's. And Chuck's knows Brunswick stew. We also sampled several pieces of homemade pie and dessert that are in a display case on the counter. My strawberry cake was moist and slightly pink and I must have liked it because there was hardly a crumb left. Chuck's is a nice break from fast food. read more

As an out of towner, decided to come to Chuck's BBQ to pick up some Southern BBQ. Chuck's BBQ is a whole in the wall spot that you would know it's there if you're looking for. As the sign says, they specialize in BBQ. You can choose from Ribs, Chicken, and Sandwiches. Most of the stuff here is under $10. One of the bonuses about Chuck's is that you can see the BBQ pit right there behind the counter and can watch the people cut up the Ribs & Chicken. There is nothing like the sweet smell of Hickory to get you hungry. Wasn't hungry enough for the ribs so decided on the Chip Pork Sandwich and a side of fries. Well the Chipped Pork Sandwich didn't live up to expectations, but at $6.00 for a combo meal, it's much better than say McD's, Arby's, and other people. As an outta towner, well versed in barbecue, I found this place to be slightly below average. They cut unnecessary corners with regard to sides, portions, and general quality. This place has a lot of potential to be a unique, go-to destination, especially considering the pit is directly behind the counter and it is 1 min off the highway. I've eaten here several times ant it has always been good. But there drive through is awful! The last three times I went through they got the order wrong. I even tried on the last time to double check to make sure they got it right. I pulled away from the window and stop to get myself organized so I could eat and drive. Meat was good just like it was, stew and b.beans were so hot, you couldn't eat it for about 30 minutes. Must've been heated by chef microwave. Baked beans were good. I'm amazed at the whiney, low-star ratings Chuck's receives. This is an unabashed joint: modest concrete block building, counter service only, a limited menu -- and really good bar-b-que at very fair prices. If you can get a pork chunk bbq sandwich of excellent taste and with what seemed to be about half a pound of meat on it for a whopping $4.09, I'd say you're getting a good deal. This is without a doubt the nastiest bbq that I have ever been served! I tried the chicken/pork plate with the "chipped" pork which was about 75 percent chunks of fat! Do people eat this? The chicken was so bland that it needed some kind of sauce but all that was available was mustard sauce...ok if you like mustard sauce but why not season the chicken? The "baked beans" were just cheap pork n beans warmed up, the tiny portion of brunswick stew was the only thing I could eat . The lady working there was nice and the tea was good but over 14 dollars for something that went into the garbage is not worth even a star. read more
