Outstanding Service, Great Food, and Fantastic Hospitality!…read more Dining at Koi on La Cienega is always a treat, but this visit truly stood out because of the top-tier management and staff. A huge thank you to the manager on duty, who handled a situation with other disruptive guests so smoothly and attentively. He went out of his way to relocate us to a better available area so we could fully enjoy our dinner without missing a beat--that level of care and hospitality deeply appreciated! Beyond the stellar management, the food and drinks were absolute perfection: * Sashimi & Appetizers: The yellowtail jalapeño and seared albacore carpaccio were exceptionally fresh, dressed with rich ponzu sauces and delicate toppings. The shishito peppers and avocado dishes were incredible starters as well. * Craft Cocktails: The signature martini garnished with a fresh orchid flower was bright, balanced, and perfectly crafted. * Dessert: We ended the meal with their warm crêpes topped with caramelized apples, candied pecans, and vanilla ice cream--it was decadent, delicious, and beautifully presented. The beautiful ambiance, high-quality sushi, and above-and-beyond hospitality make Koi a classic La Cienega staple.

The place was quiet on a Friday after 1:00, and we were able to park right in front and grab a table in a mostly empty restaurant. The space was pleasant, small and homey, with art on the walls. Service was fast and super friendly. Our server was helpful and sweet with Wade, who behaved himself, mostly because he was occupied with udon. He got a plain kid's udon, just the noodles and soup, and he slurped it right up. It came with a side salad of mixed greens with fried onion in a gingery Japanese dressing. He didn't touch it, but I thought it was quite tasty. I got the mentai combo, a $25 lunch special with a small bowl of mentaiko udon and choice of beef or spicy tuna bowl. The udon was delicious, slippery and chewy in a creamy, slightly spicy mentaiko broth, finished with more mentaiko and kizami nori. I opted for the spicy tuna bowl, and this hit the spot, a heap of spicy tuna over rice, served with soy sauce. Blanca got the deluxe curry udon, a massive bowl of udon in curry broth with chicken katsu, shrimp tempura, poached egg, and cheese. I tried some, and it was really good. Kochi isn't just an udon place. There are lots of homestyle Japanese dishes on the menu, as well as sushi. Udon does seem to be the specialty, though, and it's what I'd go back for, especially if I'm hanging with Wade.

Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills offers an unforgettable Japanese curry experience that stands out for both its flavor and presentation. Situated about a 10-minute walk from the shopping mecca of Rodeo Drive, the location is convenient for an after-shopping meal. Street parking can be tricky, but there are nearby paid options. I dined here on a Saturday night and found it pleasantly uncrowded. Food: The food at Chubby Curry is not only delicious but also generous in portion size and fairly priced. Here's a rundown of what I tried: 1) Dry-Aged Roast Duck Curry ($59): An absolute highlight! The dish arrived with a dramatic presentation, complete with smoke billowing out as the lid was lifted. The duck, reminiscent of Chinese Beijing duck, was perfectly cooked with a flavorful, non-fatty skin. The accompanying sides, including mustard sauce, cucumbers, red pickled Fukujinzuke (relish), and scallions, added a delightful variety to the plate. Make sure to order this early because it takes 20-30 minutes to prepare. 2) Wagyu Dumpling ($9): These 6 dumplings were a standout. Served with a tangy, savory scallion sauce, they were addictive. The presentation was as impressive as the taste, making this my favorite part of the meal. 3) Chubby Curry ($23): A hearty bowl of thick curry with tender beef, carrots, and potatoes. It was accompanied by charred broccoli over rice, topped with sesame seeds and red pickled Fukujinzuke (relish). The curry had a robust flavor that was comforting and satisfying. Atmosphere: The restaurant's interior is quirky and engaging, with anime posters and figurine displays creating a unique vibe. The tables are equipped with games like Connect 4 and Uno, adding a playful touch to the dining experience. However, the open-front design of the restaurant meant our meal was constantly interrupted by flies, which was a bit of a downside. Be sure to sit in the very inside of the restaurant to avoid the flies. Service: The service at Chubby Curry was exceptional. Jason, in particular, deserves a shoutout for his warm hospitality and attentive service. He made us feel welcome and took great care to ensure we had an enjoyable dining experience. His friendly conversation and prompt attention enhanced our visit. Overall, Chubby Curry provides a delightful dining experience with its unique dishes and engaging atmosphere. While the open-front layout can attract flies, the fantastic food and excellent service more than make up for it. If you're in Beverly Hills and looking for a place that offers something different from the typical upscale dining, Chubby Curry is definitely worth a visit. read more

Let's just say this, this might be some of the best curry I have had in a while since I got back from Japan. The curry's flavor is quite unique so I asked the store associate and was told they use onion to extract the flavor instead of soy sauce, the natural flavor of the curry does taste more flavorful and is seasoned just perfect. I can tell that the chicken and pork they used are obviously high grade meat, they are juicy and tender, not dry at all. The crispy shell with the sauce just made the combination much more flavorful. I also love how they combine the wagyu with different curry dishes and I was told that they have their own ranch and has multiple other restaurants in LA and Vegas that uses the same premium wagyu. That is just incredible, I mean I'm spending just 20 something dollars for wagyu? The service is amazing. All friendly and hustle free service style really gets me, water refills are pretty timely, they would also bus my table frequently just so I have more rooms. You don't get this a lot in other fast paced restaurants (yeah, they are packed during peak hours and the service is still spot on with only 2 servers, that's something worth mentioning). Last, I'm not a big fan of anime and I can only name a few of the characters they have on the shelf and wall, but I can tell that the store owner put the effort in to design the store, loved the personal touch. The restaurant is small but clean and neat, I think it's something worth mentioning, and I've been here a couple times, the hygiene and service standards have not gone down at all. Will be coming back regularly and would love to see they have more locations in the city so I faint have to drive 20+ minutes to be here (sometimes wait in line to just get a table). Overall, 5 star well deserved read more

TRY THE WAGYU BURGER! AND ADD CHEESE! I have never been here after they reopened (previously string ramen), but I have been seeing some social media posts recently and seems like they are pretty popular in the area so I decided to drive down here from DTLA to give it a try. Tonight was not busy, must have something to do with the weather today and it might be after rush hours, but the server Wassol (forgive me if I got it wrong lol) did gave a pretty detailed intro to the menu, and I got the Wagyu burger with mozzarella cheese crisps, and made it a combo with some fries and miso soup. Gotta say the portions size is very decent and generous, the meat patty is made with Wagyu and cooked to medium rare (don't ask for well done ppls, that's Wagyu!) and it tastes just spot on, not chewy not too raw, and it's very flavorful, not sure if they pre marinated the meat or not. The dipping sauce for the fries is nothing out of the ordinary either, it's curry Aioli sauce. It's a lot of food and I could not finish them so asked for to go box for the rest do the food, Wassol was nice enough to get me some extra sauce. FYI, keep the bag, use it for your work lunch box or some, it's pretty nice looking and you can seal it. They also have the duck curry but it's a portion for two so I'll have to wait for the next time and come with my fam or friends I guess. Overall, the food and ambiance are pretty good for their pricing, even more than what I would expect. read more

I visited Chubby Curry on a weekday for lunch and opted for a combo meal, which included miso soup, curry fries, and a main dish. I chose the Chubby Curry, featuring their premium beef as the base of the Japanese curry. While I don't frequently eat Japanese curry at restaurants, I often make it at home using instant packs for a quick, rich, and hearty meal. Overall, I found the Japanese curry at Chubby Curry to be good, but I didn't notice a significant difference from what I can make at home. So I'm not sure if this is a testament to how excellent Japanese curry instant packs are or to the restaurant's mediocrity. Considering the price, I'm unsure if it's worth dining out for Japanese curry, although I understand the higher cost given the Beverly Hills location. That said, I am open to returning to try their other curry options to see if they offer more distinctive flavors. I also had the curry fries included in the combo which was a pleasant surprise--crispy with a unique curry taste, blending American fast food with Japanese flavors in an appealing way. The service was friendly and prompt, and the ambiance was excellent. The restaurant's dark wood design creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, and its open-door setup adds a charming touch when the weather is nice outside. Overall, Chubby Curry offers a unique fusion dining experience with a pleasant atmosphere, though the value may depend on one's familiarity with Japanese curry. read more

After seeing their burger featured on Eater LA, I had to come try this place. Run by a Michelin star chef, this curry spot is definitely one of the most unique places that I've ever been. Walking in, you are able to see the unique interior that is filled with lots of anime figures and posters. It has an open kitchen concept, so you can see the chefs diligently working right in front of you. I tried a few of their items: Stone Pot Wagyu Hambagu - A Hamburg Steak with a sweeter curry with rice and veggies underneath. This one is quite delicious as the rice gets crunchy while the hot stone is actively cooking it. Wagyu Burger - A wagyu patty with a light curry sauce. I can see why this was featured, as all the ingredients put into this were just top quality. The curry was a very nice compliment to the fattiness of the wagyu patty. Roasted Duck Curry - IF THEY HAVE THIS AVAILABLE, GET IT. This is probably one of the best ducks that I've had in LA. I believe it is dry aged for 10 days, so it is only available on certain days. The curry used for this dish is slightly different than the other dishes, and I think it is absolutely perfect. Value wise, I think this place is probably one of the best especially located in a place like Beverly Hills. All the ingredient used are top notch, and the service and interaction with the chefs are great. Shoutout to our server Blair who was extremely patient with all of our questions about the menu. read more

I recently had the pleasure of dining several times at Chubby Curry, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The food, crafted by a Michelin-starred chef, is nothing short of extraordinary. Each dish bursts with flavor, making it clear that the highest culinary standards are upheld in this kitchen. The standout items on the menu are undoubtedly the wagyu burger and their unique curries. The wagyu burger is a masterpiece, offering a melt-in-your-mouth experience that is unparalleled. The quality of the meat and the innovative blend of spices create a symphony of flavors that left me craving more. As for their curries, they are unlike anything I have ever tried. Each curry has a depth of flavor and complexity that showcases the chef's remarkable talent and dedication to perfection. The service at Chubby Curry is equally commendable. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food they serve. They go above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels welcome and well-cared-for. The ambiance of Chubby Curry adds to the overall delightful experience. The decor is stylish and inviting, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere. I recently visited Chubby Curry and was thoroughly disappointed with the experience. Upon arrival, I noticed a QR code posted at the entrance offering a 10% discount on the first order. However, when I inquired about it, the waiter dismissed it as outdated, claiming they just hadn't removed it and it was valid only for the "soft opening." This felt misleading and unprofessional. The staff overall lacked training and professionalism. The food quality was subpar, with dishes tasting reheated rather than freshly prepared. The service was slow and unresponsive, adding to the frustration. I ordered curry and pork cutlet from this place, and it was quite disappointing. The cutlet was cold at the core and only heated on the surface, like from uneven microwaving. The curry tasted sour, suggesting it wasn't fresh. The carrots and potatoes were overcooked and mushy, as if the dish had been reheated multiple times. Overall, the meal did not seem fresh at all. I won't be ordering from here again. To top it all off, a minimum of 18% tip for a party two was automatically added as default in credit card bill tablet, which seemed audacious given the poor service and food quality. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to others based on my experience. Place was empty and now I understand why. read more

This restaurant truly exceeded my expectations in every way. Every dish I tried was absolutely delicious, showcasing a remarkable attention to flavor and quality. The fried chicken stood out with its perfectly crispy texture, and when paired with their rich, aromatic curry sauce, it was a match made in heaven. The beef was incredibly fresh, offering a tender and juicy bite that was simply delightful. I was particularly impressed by their fries; the combination of seaweed seasoning with the curry sauce created a surprisingly delightful burst of flavors that I couldn't get enough of. What made the experience even more enjoyable was the exceptional service. The staff were incredibly friendly and patient, making sure every guest felt welcome and well taken care of. Additionally, the prices were very reasonable, especially considering the generous portion sizes. Yet another restaurant lying about offering Japanese wagyu. I ordered the wagyu udon (Udon know me) and the wagyu curry (chubby curry). The udon meat is dry and tough which is very unlike wagyu even if it's overcooked. It is most likely just regular beef brisket. The wagyu curry is better in terms of tenderness but for the price you're better off going to a place that is not false advertising. The fish here is so fresh and on a hot summer's day, this dish is absolutely amazing. I felt like it had the perfect variety, while still balancing with the rice ratio and flavor. It's a 3/5...which by Yelp's definition is "OK."…read more It's hard to finesse a "three" on here with little direction up or down, but the meal simply that...OK. Ordered the. Bulgogi bowl, some chicken karaage, the spicy tuna on crispy rice and the chirashi don. Miso soup: not deeply flavorful and rich with umami. Was a bit watered down - but for free, enjoy a couple sips. Spicy tuna on crispy rice: the rice was almost tooth-breaking and flavorless - as was the concoction on top. Except...for a real pop of jalapeno, was was nice and a game-saver for this dish. It's not bad, but certainly not something one returns for even once. Chicken Kaarage: all bread, with perhaps a beak in there somewhere. Felt like a tough dumpling with some sweet sauce on the side. Could have saved the carbs / calories on this one. Chirashi-don: fish didn't pop with flavor or depth. Some was mushi. My friend commented on the best part being the tamago. Thank goodness for the egg. Not offensive, and didn't cause heartburn or food poisoning! So another "3" level plus there. The portion was generous, so if you're cool with the fish here, order away! Finally, the bulgogi bowl. While there wasn't quite enough beef for me (perhaps avoiding second bites of the other items made my hunger grow), the taste was lovely and the beef on the tiny bone was fun to eat. So...while the above may seem a touch harsh, it wasn't bad, just not great for nearly $90 and being left with a yen for something more satisfying on a Friday evening.

I recommend flat meats because they tend to be easiest to crisp up and enjoy. Price point is a bit on the higher end, definitely higher than Gyu Kaku, but the quality makes up for it. This isn't your average Japanese BBQ. Ventilation wasn't stellar, so expect to leave with a bit of an odor on your person - to be expected, to some degree, but some places do a better job than others with clearing the smoke. Our grill also wasn't changed out and it affected the meat toward the end of our meal, so I recommend flagging someone down and proactively asking for a grill change when you notice it's becoming necessary. The interior is cozy and more intimate than I expected. Try to sit at a full booth if possible. Everyone was pretty pleasant here. Service was efficient. Street parking was available out front.

Sushi K s now one of my favorite worth-it spots when it comes to price-to-quality, especially if you're looking for a more casual omakase experience. The nigiri featured fish flown in fresh from Toyosu, and you could taste the freshness in every bite. Both chefs showcased incredible technique, but what stood out most to me was just how pristine the fish was.
