I've been dining at this location for a few times and have always ordered the tonkatsu (pork cutlets) by itself. This last time I went they only gave me half a pork cutlets and said to me that it's normal and it's always like that because they serve by size. That's is ridiculous. The waitress must think I'm a fool. She's terrible anyway. I asked her a question about the burger price (I misread the price) and she told me they don't have any burger that is $10 with an attitude. About the food, I finally got to try their duck. It's like they forgot to season the duck. Wasted $59 on that item. The taste wasn't good. Kind of dry too. And their $19 burger, super dry. It doesn't even worth $10. read more

The hubs and I are always on the lookout for good Japanese curry. He found this place on a listicle for Best Curry Places in Los Angeles, and we were both very impressed. He had the AYCE lunch special, I had the chicken katsu kare with charred broccoli, and we shared the curry fries with the side of kare sauce. We started our meal with the curry fries. They were crisp without overbearing flavors, and I was so glad we ordered the side of sauce. The AYCE dish was simple - just a plate of rice with curry. But the flavor of the curry was so complex and delicious! My chicken katsu was perfect - crisp without being greasy, moist, flavorful, tender, and perfectly accompanied by the curry. The broccoli was delicious too - charred to absolute perfection. If I had to - HAD TO - provide a critique, it would be that the food all arrived at different times. We were okay with the fries hitting the table first as an appetizer, but the hubs was nearly finished with his first plate of curry before I subdued the hangry monster and asked them to check on the status of my dish. It took a couple minutes more after that, but with the food tasting so good, I really had no complaints. read more

I recently tried Chubby Curry's Dine LA lunch menu, and while there were some highlights, it didn't fully meet my expectations. The portions were generous, and the flavors were decent, but nothing really stood out as exceptional. The beef curry itself was rich and comforting, but it lacked depth compared to other Japanese curry spots I've tried. The side dishes were we're miso soup and French fries because they were out of dumplings but not particularly memorable. Service was friendly, the restaurant wasn't too busy. Overall, it's a solid option if you're in the area and craving curry, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. A good value for Dine LA, but I expected a bit more in terms of flavor and execution. read more

This place is very mid, nothing special. They have lots of Wagyu but they're ground or cuts of beef round, so it's probably leftovers from the restaurant group's other chains. The Udon Know Me seemed a little small, but the udon was cooked well (not dry) and their curry tastes good. The Wagyu is a lower quality cut so it's not some crazily fatty slice of meat, just normal meat (though again not dry). The maitake mushrooms were in large bunches, and I think a third of that size is more appropriate. The curry fries are yummy. How could you go wrong with that? I was hoping for the waffle fries that I saw in other reviews, but they switched up to curly fries (are they frozen?). The buffalo chicken sando features a massive piece of chicken breast with an amazingly light fry around the exterior. They sauce is also pretty light, but then over all the sandwich ends up a bit dry. read more

Like I usually do, I'd like to start out with the positives... The vibe of this place is fantastic. I love the interior decor and the statues. The music was also on point and had a great Asian lounge vibe to it. The service from the ladies was also quite good. The ordering system is simple to understand and execute with. Unfortunately, things start to get bad when the food is involved. The lens I use to judge Japanese curry is colored by hurry curry and coco ichinanya. These two are favorites of mine. Chubby is located in Beverly hills, so I get the higher costs. However, with a 5 to $7 premium on entrees, the expectations also increase. Let's start with the chicken, the chicken katsu looks beautiful. Sadly, the chicken texture is a bit chewy and not as tender as expected. The sides that came with it were interesting. The eggplant snack? Was quite good. However, the cabbage salad had no dressing to it.... Sorry, but a lemon which squeeze is not nearly enough to add flavor to a bland cabbage. Finally, the star of the show should have been the curry sauce. However problem one was it was not very hot. Hot in the sense of temperature and in the sense of taste. Frankly, there was very little curry flavor to it. It was beyond mild... Again, looking through the lens of the other curry options, I get to choose multiple levels of spice and the curry that comes out is always piping hot. Since this place is close to me, I wanted to love it and make it my go-to place... Even with the higher cost. However, the food is a big miss for me.. read more

Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and couldn't understand why this place doesn't have a waitlist (I think?) and just ask people to wait outside in some self-organized line? Seems ridiculous. But I couldn't even understand what he was directing me to do with a language barrier. That in itself was such a turn off to this restaurant that I have been to once before and can't even recall if the food was actually worth it (speaking from an Asian perspective). Oh well, good luck to those who have no other real options when visiting Beverly Hills. read more

Great location Fast service Food not great Ramen tasted like it was cooked in tomato juice Will try other menu options in the future

We enjoyed a late lunch at a new restaurant today. Really, glad we tried the supreme vegetable curry and the signature Chubby Waygu curry, plus waffle fries and cucumber salad. Everyone was friendly and I liked the open kitchen. Thank you for bringing Chubby Curry to Los Angeles. read more

Ordered their "Wagyu" beef curry on delivery, and it was so bad I'm compelled to leave a review. This place deserves 0 stars. The curry is extremely watery and devoid of any flavor. There is no body to the curry. This is quite possibly the worst Japanese curry I've ever had. Each order of beef curry came with exactly 4 one-inch squares of "wagyu" and 3 small potatoes and 3 small carrots. Lastly, i absolutely hate when restaurants exploit the Wagyu name. This tough piece of beef is clearly does not resemble Wagyu in any way. Do yourself a favor and pick up curry from Tokyo Central and Ninjiya deli. Or better yet just go to CoCo Ichibanya. read more

Yummy but didn't blow me away. It was interesting though because the curry seemed to have more spices than other Japanese curries I've had. Tasted very cinnamony which I can't complain about bc I'm a fiend for cinnamon. A bit overpriced for just being okay. But great place for weebs. read more

There was only one server and one kitchen staff when we walked in during lunch rush hour. It took us about 45 minutes to get our meals (I know because I had to take a business call that ran about 30 minutes while I was waiting). The food is overpriced for not so authentic Japanese restaurant. Would appreciate it if the server atleast acknowledged our wait but that's just another service mishap. I don't recommend this place. Only positive is the Japanese interior but I'm not sure if the owner is Japanese since the ownership changed. read more

Chubby Curry first came on my radar via social media. I tried the chicken katsu curry and the chicken was perfectly fried, crispy, and moist. The curry sauce had a good consistency and looked like a typical Japanese curry sauce with carrots and potatoes, but the flavor was interesting and a bit unusual and hard to describe. The packing containers were unique and the fancy insulated delivery bag helped to keep my order hot upon arrival. I took advantage of the excellent deal on DoorDash of buy one chicken katsu curry, get one free. All in all, the chicken katsu itself was definitely exceptional. read more

I went there during soft opening with my son, my wife, and some friends. This restaurant is located in downtown Covina, there are parking spots in front of the restaurant which I was able to get one, but I think there is also a parking lot in the back. In any case, it felt pretty safe and the area was cozy. As we entered the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by the hostess who quickly led us to our table despite that we were there 30 minutes early. It could be a soft opening thing, but the restaurant is part of Chubby Group which also owns restaurants like Chubby Cattle, The X Pot, Niku X, and Wagyu House. The service is always good in the Chubby restaurants. The restaurant is a little small though, so I can foresee long wait during peak hours. Now the food is great. My favorite is chicken kare - the chicken is the juiciest white meat I have ever tasted and the dish is light (yes there are some heavier dishes like udon know me and wagyu curry. A bit too heavy for me). The sushi offerings are delicious. In terms of the curry, I still prefer the taste of Coco Ichibanya's but it is still good. Note that we have also been to the original Chubby Curry in Hollywood, but we prefer this Covina location because Hollywood doesn't have sushi, and traffic is worse. I also live closer to Covina so I will definitely come back to this location. On a side note, if you have the NFT (see the Chubby group website for info), you will get some extra benefits like discounts, free drink, and exclusive reservations. read more

Hospitality top notch . Blaire is very attentive and helpful to recommend me drinks and questions I have about the menu The curry is very well prepared from scratch . Feels just like the good curry i had in Japan . I ordered the chubby curry and the duck curry as well as a side tonkatsu appetizers and miso soup . All the dishes came out looking very well plated and tasted delicious . The portion is also very generous and I ended having to take half of the duck curry and katsu home in a nice Togo reusable bag. Thank you Chubby curry . Will definitely be bringing friends here again read more

Made out to the Soft Opening private event that was hosted by the Chubby Cattle Group with a couple friends. I tried both the Tonkatsu and the Chicken Katsu Kare and both were delicious. When I bit into that pork tonkatsu, the meat exploded with juices similar to something you would see in Anime. The meat was so tender and had a great mouthfeel and pairs well with the sauces provided or even dipping it into the curry sauce that was with my Chicken Katsu dish. Speaking of the Chicken Katsu, yes, it was also delicious -- I did have a comment that maybe the slices can be made smaller because I kind of prefer more curry sauce to meat ratio when eating Chicken Katsu Curry. Service from the staff was excellent and the waitstaff was definitely on point with attentiveness. Shout out to Elaine (I think -- sorry I might've misheard the name). Overall good times, wish a location would be more local to me in the future, would eat again! #chubbyclub read more

The ambiance is great, and the service is on point tonight. Shout out Jason and Joyce for the great service. Regarding the food ordered, we tested out 4 entrees. Overall, it's pretty spot on. We did mention a few tweaks with the salad because it strangely didn't come with any sauce (just with a lemon slice), which it seems some of the majority feedback they received tonight. The one dish that I did have my spotlight on would be the Udon Curry (Udon Know Me). Sweeter side of the curry, which I enjoyed and very earthy. Udon had nice chew but not too mushy. Recommendations with the parking situation there is a parking structure nearby where it's 2 hours a few and 5 dollars flat, so it's pretty nice actually. The overall experience of getting there / eating I would recommend read more

Thank you so much to our server, Troy! He was so helpful. This restaurant was yummy and amazing, worth going for!

A friend and I came here for the first time today and we both loved it. Very easy to give five stars I wish I could give Ten. I had the vegan curry dish which is rich with flavor. My friend had the beef curry and I think I saw tears. Our servers were Blair and Charlie, both top notch. Both were very personal and enjoy talking about the food. Blair is a jewel. I recommend trying a variety , take a friend or two so you can sample each other's food. This place I highly recommend. The price point is very reasonable. I'd say this place gives off "elevated casual" vibes when you walk in, but it didn't hit the mark for me. The I think I also had high expectations for this place, since it's part of the Chubby Cattle family. I think this place is a good value when you get the unlimited curry lunch special, but it's not worth it for dinner because I've definitely had better tasting curry for less money. It didn't give me that unami flavor satisfaction and the service was okay when I went. read more

Excellent Japanese curry!! I love Japanese curry and will always miss Curry House (Rip), so when I saw this restaurant being featured in an article I knew I had to grab my Curry House loving friend and try this. It didn't disappoint!!! If you want customization on the spice level they don't have that, and their base curry isn't spicy (Japanese curry is usually a bit sweet); but the flavor is great and I think it's prepared with a lot of heart and good ingredients. They also have this side spicy sauce you may add to your dish to spice it up (super spicy). We added the combo with fries (curly!) and miso soup (love it- not too salty). My chubby curry's beef curry had a lot of big beef chunks that's tender but still had the nice chew. My friend's hambagu beef patty was very nice and meaty with strong beef flavors. It's a bit on the pricy side but it is Beverly Hills. What's great is there's a public parking structure right across the street with two hours free! Oh and I have to praise the taste in music of whoever is in charge of it - all the Japanese pop songs I love I can prolly sit here all day. Please stay in business, I gotta come back! Or better yet, open one in SGV! read more

This was my first time dining in the restaurant. I've had the Wagyu beef curry a few times to go and it was pretty good. This time I got the chubby curry Wagyu beef steak rice bowl (recommended by the server Jay, thank you) and I liked it! The Wagyu was cooked perfectly like medium rare with a slow cooked egg which was also cooked to perfection. Although I do wish the rice was a bit softer. Definitely recommend trying this out and I would be back to try the katsu. I also made it a combo with the miso soup and small curry fries (the miso soup was a bit overly salty) the fries was so crispy and flavorful. For a small fries, there was actually a lot definitely worth your money. Overall everything is priced fair especially being in Beverly Hills area. Parking was a bit confusing cause I thought it was street parking only but it you pass it a little there is a public parking structure (2 hrs free before 6PM). Shoutout to the server for letting me know and double checking for me!! The inside is pretty spacious and has a decent amount of tables with a open kitchen area. read more

A group of us came here for the DineLA lunch special. Their options sounded great, and we all ordered different things in order to share. Some of us had the chicken katsu and others went with the wagyu option. Everything tasted great. The portions were huge, and we definitely received more than we expected. What also impressed me was the pricing. I felt everything was reasonably priced. They have some unique options for Sake as well. I am really glad I came and tried this place and look forward to returning. The staff member we dealt with was really nice, but I felt she was a little overwhelmed with being the only one on the floor taking care of multiple tables. read more

I loved this place, the food was yummy. The prices were a little on the high but overall pretty good.

I've gotten the chicken katsu curry and the stonepot curry and both were really salty, oily, and tasted really strongly of butter. The restaurant itself is pretty vibey with anime figurines and uno at each table. I honestly will not come here if you are craving authentic japanese curry. But it is a cute little spot for a casual date. The to go bags are pretty cute (although not super practical for re-using). read more

We were supposed to have a light dinner, but we opted for @chubbycurryla in Beverly Hills. I saw they had a Wagyu Burger and had to get it. It was interesting with the curry flavor.
