I give this spot 3 stars the wait is crazy long, which I totally understand because the space is smaller than the one in SoCal, you get 1.5 hrs to eat as much as you can but the service is slow so that 1.5hrs include the wait time for them to bring all your order out and the time you cooked the food. We did the Gold Tier and It was good, our server Josh is excellent he took care of us, his very attentive and always checking if we need more meat, I love this server As far as the meat not sure why I find it more tastier when I dine in at their Rowland Height branch in LA and the portion over there are more generous than on this location. read more

We had a 6:00 pm reservation on a Sunday and, despite a long quoted wait time of 123-153 minutes for walk ins, we were seated within 15 minutes, which was appreciated. The ambiance remained pleasant, though slightly smokier than before. Service was noticeably improved. Staff were attentive, plates were cleared quickly, and overall hospitality was much better than our first experience. However, food timing was still a bit slow, especially as it got busier around 7:30 pm, when restocking also seemed to lag. Food quality was generally solid. Top tier dishes included the wagyu short ribs, which were very tender, and the M8 9 wagyu otoro, which had the perfect amount of fat and crisped well. The Argentine red shrimp were sweet and fresh, and both the carpaccio and hand rolls were impressive for an all you can eat menu. The fruit and egg tarts were also very enjoyable. Some dishes were less successful. Certain wagyu cuts like the steak and brisket were tougher than expected, and the wagyu knuckle was not a favorite. The steamed eggs had a great texture but could use more flavor. The new style of grill tops felt a bit flimsy and made it harder to properly grill some of the meats. For a regular silver tier price point of $58, it may be a bit harder to justify for those mainly focused on meat, since the short ribs were the only cut that consistently stood out. In comparison, places like Thirsty Cow (in Garden Grove, CA) at a similar price point offer a wider variety of strong meat options. That said, the additional offerings here such as the fresh high quality fruit, good milk teas, and egg tarts helped balance the experience and made the price feel more reasonable overall. Finally came back to this area and knew this place was on my hit list. Checked in a right before 4pm and was sat around 6:40pm. Come early for the waitlist. Each table has a tablet to order from so no need to flag down your waiter. Cici was amazing at explaining everything for our first time and cooked our first round to make sure we were able to enjoy the meats. Best service we've had in a while. Thanks Cici! It was our first time as a family visiting the area and we decided to check out this restaurant for my dad's birthday. The wait was 3 hours, but there was a shopping outlet across the street. So we checked in our name and then shopped around the outlet. The restaurant texted us when the table was ready. We loved the restaurant and the fun atmosphere with delicious food. Our waiter was named Marin! He was AMAZING!! It was our first time here and Marin explained everything throughly to our family. Marin had excellent customer service and welcomed us warmly. A5 wagyu is really good. However, whichever option you choose, it's limited to how much you can get. The all you can eat options are a drastic difference. The sushi options are pretty fresh. They do accommodate gluten free meet without the sauce, but there will be cross contamination due to the shared grill, unless your entire party are gluten free eaters. My only complaint is that the gluten free options could be more clear. some of the sushi I had to continuously as the waiter to place the order without the sauce. We've gone to Chubby Cattle location in Monterey Park in So Cal a few times and enjoyed it, so we were so excited to see that Chubby Cattle has come to the East Bay. Unfortunately, we felt that this location fell short compared to its other location in So Cal. Our friend was able to add us onto the waitlist online, and we waited about 3 hours before our table was ready. There's a picture of the menu stating you can't do the waitlist online, but maybe that menu picture is outdated. This location is very small compared to the Monterey Park location, and I'd highly recommend a reservation (if they let you make one) if you have a large party. Our server was great; he went over the meats with us, what he recommended, and cooked some of the meats for us when we were starting. However, we ordered the exact same meats that we got at the So Cal location, and it just wasn't as tender or juicy compared to their other location. Our food did come out quickly though. The ventilation also isn't the greatest, or at least in the back area of the restaurant. The self-service section is very narrow as well and is quite a busy area since the workers and customers need to pass through that space. Our server had informed us that there wouldn't be any fried food that day (can't remember if it was due to food stock or the equipment not working), so that's something to keep in mind as well. We also noticed that there were a few items that this Nor Cal location didn't have compared to its So Cal counterparts. Overall, I'd say this is maybe worth visiting once, but having tried the Monterey Park location which was much better for us, we won't be back. read more

I came here for my birthday and already expected a long wait, so I checked Yelp's waitlist ahead of time. After looking into it, I realized the best time to come is on a weekday around 4 PM. Once it hits 5 PM, the wait can easily jump to 90-120 minutes. Luckily, we arrived right at 4 and got seated immediately. I've been seeing this place all over social media for a while, so I really wanted to see if it lived up to the hype--and honestly, it did. The menu is a bit confusing at first with the different tiers, but we ended up going with the Gold tier. It includes all-you-can-eat American Wagyu, plus each person can order one Japanese Wagyu. They offer a huge variety of food--sushi, Wagyu, burgers, fries, fried tofu, soups, milk teas, egg tarts, and even a salad bar with fruits, veggies, and mushrooms for grilling. Usually, salad bar items can be low quality, but everything here was surprisingly fresh. The fruit was sweet and not dry, and the milk teas were actually better than some dedicated boba spots like Sharetea or Quickly. Of course, the highlight was the meat. Everything was tender and melted in your mouth. The Japanese Wagyu was high quality, and the American Wagyu selection was also really solid. There were so many options that I honestly lost track of what I ordered since the meats aren't labeled when they come out. Service was excellent. Our waiter was super helpful--he explained everything clearly, helped us choose the best meats, signed us up for their membership for a deal, and even got us a free meat item. He also suggested taking milk tea to go, which was a nice touch. The ambiance was really cool--it felt like you were walking through the streets of Korea, with architecture that resembled traditional Korean buildings. My only complaint is that this location is very small, with only about 21 seats, which explains the long wait times. Tip if you're gonna come here, Yelp has a waitlist and it shows you kind of the times that you have to wait the most so I would study that and figure out what time is the best for you in your group to come. Overall, I highly recommend this place. It's definitely worth the money for the quality you get. Just try to come early to avoid the wait. If you're in the San Jose area, they're opening new locations in Great Mall and Santa Clara this winter, which should help with the crowds. In my opinion, this is the best all you can eat Korean BBQ spot in the Bay Area right now, and it's not even close. read more

My friends and I came to Chubby Cattle to see what all the hype was about. We purposely went on a random Wednesday for lunch and there was no wait. I know during peak hours, like dinner, the wait can go up to two hours. We were able to get seats immediately. The interior design reminds me so much of Japan, and it was really nice. Our waiter thoroughly explained everything to us, and we ended up getting the gold package. Ordering on the iPad was very easy. You just need to be mindful to put in all your orders at once because if you miss something, you have to wait about five minutes before ordering more. My friends and I tried a wide assortment of items, such as their red shrimps, sashimi, carpaccio, squid, calamari, Tom Yum hot pot, and all the meats. Their meats are relatively thin, so it is very easy to accidentally overcook them. I learned that you want to flip the meat as soon as you see a little bit of blood rising through to the top. I thoroughly enjoyed the finger meat and the brisket. I definitely appreciated that our waiter was very hands-on and helped us cook some of the meats to ensure we didn't overcook them. They also had a very wide selection of side dishes. I really enjoyed the kimchi and white radish. I also liked that they had milk tea available in addition to fountain drinks. They offered a wide assortment of fruit as well. Even though this place has a 90-minute time limit, our waiter allowed us to stay a little overtime. I definitely think this place is worth trying, but go during non-peak hours because I am not the type of person who would wait two to three hours for food, especially if you are fasting before an all-you-can-eat meal. This one was a major miss for us. Everyone we spoke to gave high praises for this restaurant. We finally sat down after being on the waitlist for 2 1/2hr and the place is poorly ventilated. We ordered the diamond option which provides you with the option to select all the premium wagyu cuts and seafood. We tried all the meat cuts and I am not sure how they can call it A5 Wagyu. I've had A5 Wagyu many of times and this definitely was NOT A5. There were cuts that we just couldn't chew and had to toss it out. The premium seafood was the worst. We ordered the Hokkaido Uni and seared salmon nigiri. The Uni was the most disgusting things we ate, it taste as if it was dry freezed, it was a ball of dried something with a slight Uni flavor. The seared salmon did not taste like sushi grade, it had a refrigerated taste to it. We really had high hopes for this place, we first wanted to try it in Los Angeles but the lines were too long, and finally got to try it in Pleasanton. AYCE Japanese wagyu? Sign me up! They have 3 different tiers (silver, gold, diamond) to choose from. We went with gold since it's the best bang for your buck. The meat was fresh, tender, and you can taste the quality of it. The seafood was fresh too, can't go wrong with anything here. Khoa (server) took really good care of us, checked in often, and made sure we always had what we needed. He was friendly and made the whole experience even better. The only downside is the wait. Even a year after their grand opening, it's still really busy. If you're coming on a weekend be ready to wait around 3 hours. The waitlist starts at 11am, but they don't open until 11:30 so it's worth getting there early. Other than that, we'd definitely come back! Do not be fooled by the huge crowd in front of the door because this was not anywhere worth the 6 hour wait for me. We put our name down in person at 4:30PM on a Friday, the Yelp app told us to come back for our table at 7:30pm....we were not seated until AFTER 10PM. The huge crowd of people consists of essentially impatient and unhappy diners who were wrongly told to come back 2 hours before they could actually be seated. Anyway, we were willing to overlook this if the food is as good as the hype but we let pretty disappointed. Both the service and the food were incredibly mid for our experience... THE GOOD You order via touch screen, which I thought was great, but the screen's touch interactivity is pretty poor...despite the restaurant being new. We opted for the gold package and the premium meats were actually quite delicious. I really liked those. However, all other meats (aside from the 5 premium options) were incredibly disappointing, and not much different from a budget KBBQ. The premium meats btw, you only get one order per person. None of the cooked items on the menu stood out to me. I am a HUGE Mikiya fan (their sister restaurant) and the food quality here did not meet what is offered at Mikiya. THE BAD Because we were seated at 10pm, we only had 30min to order food instead of the full 70min like a normal meal. We felt incredibly rushed. Many items from the food bar was also gone (like the sliders) by the time we started eating and they were never replenished, even though the servers said they would be. THE UGLY There is something seriously wrong with the grills and ventilations in this place. It's NOT like a kbbq where they have air ducts, the smoke from the grill kind of floats out into the air. To the point where the whole restaurant is SO hazy and smoky that I have serious concerns for the lung health of the servers who have to constantly be in that environment. (I've attached photos in an attempt to show you how smokey it gets.) The grills are either too hot or too cold, and I've been to a lot of BBQ and I've never seen grill fires as intense as the ones here. The flames will come up a foot up and out of the grill. We could've been serious burned multiple times. I've seen the fire truck parked outside this restaurant multiple times before. It doesn't seem safe. The icing on the cake was when our server somehow "scammed" us to buy a $28 membership? She told us that we would get two free memberships because we purchased the gold dining package. So, after our meal was done, we followed her instructions to download the Chubby Cattle app and she inputted some data into the app and helped us checkout for the "free" membership. It was not free. We found out the app charged us $28. A disappointing experience made worse by poor communication and lack of clear wait expectations from the start. read more

Insane 3.5 hours wait after we're on the waitlist, but we lined up about 1.5 hours before that just to get our name on the list. It's so crazy, but we wanted to see if it was worth it. We got the diamond tier which is the highest tier they offered. I enjoyed their side dishes, their kimchi, bean sprouts and wasabi octopus were so good, it paired well to cut the fattiness of the wagyu. The meat quality, sooo delicious and melt in your mouth. My favorite was the dry aged Australian lamb. It's a new type that just came out!! They only give you like a sliver of a slice for it but man....1000% worth it, the flavors were out of this world! The limited dishes like the foie gras wagyu nigiri and uni caviar wagyu nigiri were fantastic. In addition to the wagyu, you can get seafood to grilled as well, I especially loveee the type of shrimp they offer here. It was soo flavorful when grilled up. Still thinking about how sweet and smoky they were! Their other dishes like tom yum soup, egg steams, sushi, wagyu rice, all complemented well with our meal. The service was excellent, our server come by often to check on us, although they did forget a couple of dishes, after we reminded them, they brought it out with promptness. The ambiance were okay, there was some mishaps happened on the table next to us, but our servers were great at getting it under control. I felt that the restaurant could expand soon based on how successful it is right now. The restroom could use a little more maintenance. Been avoiding Chubby Cattle because every time I'm near, I see a huge crowd outside but I finally got to try it with some friends and it was such a unique experience! We went big and opted for Diamond Tier. I was a little disappointed in the A5 meats because the first few pieces I had were chewy, but everything after that was great. Most of the meat here was solid, especially the thinly sliced ones but I actually thought the seafood was the best! The salmon was super fresh and I loved the squid. Overall, all the food was delicious aside from my first few bites. I loved corn cheese, the rice dispenser was super cool, and all the sides! My main disappointment was when the host rushed my party to leave our table shortly after being told we could place our last round. With tax and tip, we were paying over $100 per person so while I respect that there are other parties waiting, we should've been given the time to finish the last round we ordered. We had such an amazing experience at Chubby Cattle, and a huge part of that was because of our server, Josh! With so many Wagyu and meat selections, we honestly didn't know what to order. Josh knew exactly which cuts were worth trying and guided us through the menu with the best recommendations--and he was right every time! What really impressed us was that Josh went above and beyond by helping cook our meat and literally didn't stop cooking for us! We barely had to lift a finger. Endless options of delicious high quality meats, seafood, appetizers, drink bar, dessert, snacks - eating at this place is truly a unique experience in a good BUT ALSO an overstimulating way. (I'll get into that..) So great if you want a good, well rounded restaurant experience. While on the pricier side for ayce bbq, it's really a luxurious experience you're getting here. You're definitely able to get your moneys worth and it feels fair for the quality you're getting. While the menu options are plentiful, ordering and looking at the menu is a lot. The design of the menu is self service, but built almost as if it were to make you spend more time looking through it than being able to eat. Idk if it was just me and my group that thought that. The other overstimulating part was how tiny the space was, it felt so cramped in the self service area because all the drinks and appetizers, rice, sauce things were there and so everyone was crowding the space. The rice dispenser is super cool though! And I love the milk tea. My one gripe is that the grill is like a checkered surface but some of the cuts of meat are super small or thin, so it really sticks to the grill and then meat juices drip into the fire and results in a huge flame that burns your food. You really have to watch what you're cooking very carefully. I think it would be so much better to either have thicker meats or change the grill type entirely. It's true - the wait time is horrendous (we had to come 30 min before opening to wait in line to get on the wait list then we were seated an additional 30 min after). BUT once you're seated, the service is quick and the servers are extremely helpful and nice. Though, I must have been misinformed about one thing... I was told that I could upgrade from my Mikiya membership for free to include access to Chubby Cattle and even got the help of a server, but for some reason I was still charged so I was very confused by that. Overall I think this is a great restaurant experience for people that haven't done anything like this before and looking to try something new. But at $100 per person after taxes and tip, it's hard to rate this at 5 stars. The Gold tier only allows a single order of select premium meats, the time limit feels rushed, and the Yelp waitlist closes around 4PM on busy weekends. The bigger frustration is operational: 20+ unlabeled trays of raw meat arrived, making it impossible to know what you're eating. We asked the waiter why there aren't labels and even he agreed that labels would be so much more helpful. Also- Skip the sushi entirely. Overall- If you zero in on the right cuts, there are some incredible bites here, but go in with calibrated expectations to splurge on KBBQ. - Otoro & A5 Premium Cuts -- The best of the night. Melt-in-your-mouth and worth every penny -- just frustrating that the Gold tier only allows one order. - A5 Foie Gras & Uni Nigiri: Both excellent, genuinely elevated bites. - A5 / Wagyu Brisket: A standout, beautifully marbled. Better than I thought. However, when we left around 3pm, there was only 3 parties waiting and it said wait time is 10-15mins. So now I know next time to go around 3pm. Lol We got the gold tier which included only one of the special menu and dish. But even the diamond, you only get 2. So that was kind of annoying. If diamond offered unlimited, then we might have gotten that (like Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House - their sister restaurant) So we got a5 waguy short rib and a5 ribeye. This was our second time at Chubby Cattle. Best tip is to arrive before they open. Get on the waitlist when they put the tablet outside and then wait for a text when they officially open. The restaurant has plenty of seating. After we got seated, we went to the self serve stations where we can get drinks (soda or milk tea), soups, Portuguese Egg tarts, veggies, rice, ice cream, condiments, fruit and more. The only downside is that it's very narrow in that area so it does get crowded :( Our waitress RACHEL was super nice and explained the menu to us. She was very attentive and stopped by our take frequently to check on us and to change the grill. Food was SO good and fresh. I was lucky my friends cooked for me- I kind of just ate wha was placed on my plate. Each table has sauces and salt + pepper to complement the meat. Everyone loved the milk tea. Tastes like HK milk tea :) Bathroom was clean and fully stocked with "girl necessities" and mouthwash. You can also grab lifesaver mints on your way out. Chubby Cattle offers Silver, Gold, and Diamond tiers for their AYCE experience, depending on how luxurious you want to go.     I went with the Gold tier because I couldn't pass up the A5 Miyazaki short rib and ribeye, plus their wagyu nigiri (featured in the photos). The quality and marbling were seriously next level.    Another fun perk? Their self serve drink bar with milk tea, soft drinks, and even slushies -- perfect to cool down between bites.    Pro tip: Go on a weekday for lunch if you want a better shot at getting seated. It pains me to leave this review but I think this is just not our kind of place. Came here before opening, put our name on a waitlist and was seated within 5min of opening. So far so good. We sat down, the lovely server explained how everything worked and we started ordering. The countdown showed on the screen. From the time the server finished the spiel the countdown showed 1:08? I was confused. Shouldn't the countdown start when we put the order in? Took us a bit to figure out what we want. Took them 10min to get the first order to the table. Our server told us just put the next order in. But we don't know what we like yet... so this is confusing. Then we realized they missed some of our order. I asked her for help and she was so sweet and actually hunted down our order. So we waited a whole hour for that 1 thing The buffet area was small, very very small. The rice machine is in Japanese and I had to find someone to make it work (he had to push something on the screen). Trying to find someone to help was a challenge. Since all the workers are so busy. The wagyu slider ran out within the first 40min. But I have to say the buffet area is clean. So great job crew. Now to the meat. I don't know why, but we were not impressed. We did the silver level and only two of the cuts we would actually reorder. It was nothing special. The miso cut and another one I can't remember. The brisket was ok. Maybe we didn't do something right. The bbq grill was interesting. It was thin cross wire (instead of a metal plate) and we have trouble getting our slices cooked. I mean it's nice because nothing was sticking but took us a good chunk of time to cook thin slices of beef. The hand rolls were also just ok. The unagi was the best. Gyoza was ok, the skin was a bit thicker than expected. Tofu was also just ok. We love tofu but we didn't order a second one. Chicken was also just ok. Regular chicken karaage dish. My kids want me to add that they have the best French fries. They are seasoned crispy fries. I guess this is just not our kind of place. But I'm glad people like it. read more

I had higher hopes, but still a fun experience. This place is popular. Wait times can be up to 2 hours even on a weeknight. The online waitlist system is definitely appreciated! Service was friendly and informal. You can order on demand using the tablet at your table which is convenient. Food generally comes out pretty quick. They also have a bar with some banchan like vegetable sides and a white rice dispenser. The quality of the sides was pretty good. The takoyaki was perhaps my favorite. I do wish they had more vegetable based sides and also more veggie options for grilling. The meat itself was fine. Some tasted great like the beef belly and rib meat. Others did not standout as much. The lack of beer and alcohol was felt. 70 min time limit did result in a pretty rushed feeling, which was unfortunate. Overall not bad. It's nice to have a beef BBQ option locally, but it's not a definitive, must-try destination. read more

I checked in in person around 4:30 pm and didn't get seated until a little over five hours later. Once we were seated we ordered the Diamond menu. I was actually pretty pleased with the premium items and made sure to maximize the Diamond selections. The picture here shows what we ordered for two people. After our second round we were already told to put in our last order. At that point I told my date it was all him because I was done eating the chewy regular meat. Most of the AYCE items that were not part of the Diamond selections were mid and it felt like a chore to finish them. Our server Eddie was nice. At one point I asked another worker if they could change our grill and they said okay but never came back. I ended up waiting about 20 minutes and the grill kept getting worse. The meat was cooking unevenly and starting to burn while still raw in some spots. I had to flag Eddie down to get it changed. Good luck trying to get help from other servers. Loved how the place looked. The interior was nice but the food bar was a bit dirty, and the milk tea was empty. I felt uncomfortable at one point because two of the staff seemed to be looking in my direction and talking to each other while maintaining eye contact with me. Maybe I was reading too much into it but it made the moment feel awkward... I also noticed the Yelp rating is very high, but when browsing through the page I saw quite a few lower rated reviews in the not recommended section which made me curious about the overall rating. read more
