I usually go to Mala Town, but I wanted to try somewhere new, so I decided to give this place a try. I got their wok-fried spicy dry pot, which Mala Town doesn't offer, and really enjoyed it. They have a great selection of meats, seafood, and vegetables to choose from. I asked for a hot spice level, and you can also choose a complimentary noodle options or rice with your meal at the cashier and I got potato noodles. They also have a sauce station where you can mix and customize your own sauce. The inside was clean and the overall experience was great. I'll definitely be coming back!

This was a solid 3-star spot for us. The soup choices my fam and I had were tasty, the add-ins were generally good, price ($15.99/lb at the time of this review) reasonable, and the ordering process was smooth. I like that they secure seats for you before you order (we have been to other places where you end up panicking with your hot bowl in hand as you try to vulture for a table!). Items we particularly liked to select: the regular sliced meats, fish, chrysanthemum greens, mushrooms, fish balls w/roe, bean curd, quail eggs Items to skip: marinated meats (what's the point if it's going to get all cooked up in the soup?), beef tendon (too much weight), soft tofu (it's good but bear it mind, it's half a tube of it so it's pretty heavy!) Overall we found this to be one of the better spots for make your own hot pot. Bonus points for coming in a clay pot so everything stays piping hot from start to finish.

free side of udon, decent, was full, i ate some of it

I am very impressed with the quality their malatang delivery. I have had malatang in-store or delivered from different places, I prefer low carb high protein meals but these malatang places when you order delivery, they usually make you choose carbs plus a minimum of 6 different toppings, so my dream bowl of malatang which has plenty of beef and plus a little carbs never come true. Back to Chuanhi's delivery, they offer free side of carbs like udon or rice, plus 1.5 lb of whatever meat/seafood/veggie combination you prefer. And of course I got my dream beef bowl. For the broth I picked beef tallow, its tallow so its a lot of oil, still delicious. Will definitely order again!

Chuanhi Clay replaced Jeonju and is located right next door to Boiling Point. We came here on a Sunday and got seated right away. My boyfriend and I shared one pot and ordered the smashed cucumber salad. There is a one-pound minimum, and it costs $15.99 per pound. We chose the tonkotsu broth, which was really good. I haven't been to any other malatang spot that offers tonkotsu broth. I wish the cucumber salad had been a bit more garlicky, but it was really spicy. I also liked that the food was served in a clay pot and that they include noodles in your pot for free. Overall, I'm not sure if I'll be back since there's so many other malatang places around here but it's worth the try!

We were pleasantly surprised at the array of toppings available! Tendon, crawfish, every fish ball you can imagine, veggies, noodles, and more. The meat quality was great too. Sauce bar was solid. I loved the beef tallow Szechuan broth. It was spicy, rich and served piping hot! My husband elected for the tonkotsu which he equally enjoyed. For our side, we shared the cucumber dish which was garlicky and spicyyy! It was so addicting. Try it! Service was friendly and prompt. We will definitely be back!

Chuanhi Clay always gets packed quickly and that's because their food is tasty! I love how they use clay pots so your food stays warm. There is decent parking in this plaza once you enter you take a tong and a bowl and you make your way down the line filling your bowl with ingredients that you want kind of like how a salad bar works. Their staff gives you a table number, so you know where to sit. You then make your way to the register and choose the type of soup base (you can also get it dry instead of having a soup base) and noodles you want for no extra cost. They also have other noodle options for extra charge. After register, they will give you a number so they know where to deliver your food. If you pay by cash they give you a free drink. Their sauce bar is at the corner of the restaurant. The place is pretty clean. Service is ok and staff are always busy. Overall ingredients are great and I like the selections. Been here a few times already and will continue to come back!

This place hits the spot if you are really down bad for malatang. I think a big difference is that there isn't that much variety to the items but the broth was pretty good. One thing I really liked is that the soup comes out piping hot.

As more malatang spots open up in the area, I'm not mad at this one. There were a bunch of new items that I have not seen at other spots. The options are endless. They even have a pretty solid sauce bar that is constantly refilled. Got seated right away and the restraint started getting busy after 12pm mark. I also really like that they have more broth flavors and non typical ones at other malatang places. Just because, I'm starting to get bored of the common ones they have at others. Another bonus is that they also come with free side of noodles with your pot so you don't need to add that in your bowl. I like that they also use clay pots which keeps the soup hot throughout the entire time you're eating, what a nice touch. They have appetizers and other drinks that I'll be sure to come back and try! Chaunhi Clay for one of the top three malatang places here in the south bay!

New restaurant soft opening! 15.99 per pound. Lots of options. Complimentary rice noodle or potato noodle. Service was good. Place was clean. There's soup and dry option. Appetizers like skewer or smoked duck. Because it's serve in casserole. The food was super hot. I would suggest to give apron for customers that need. Would be nice to have Hand sanitizer for the utensil and bowl area.

I came here with my boyfriend on a Sunday around 11:16am and we were the first ones there. This is very typical of most malatang restaurants where you walk in, and start selecting diff food items. I was really excited to try the northeast flavor because they top the bowl with this creamy tahini sauce. I got mild spiciness, and it paired so well with the creamy tahini sauce. They have various options, and I really liked the fish balls with rice cake! You can also pair your bowl with potato noodles or rice noodles for free. We both got the potato noodles and they were chewy! Great place for malatang but I just dislike how close the tables are placed together.

nice presentation :)

i came here on a tuesday afternoon. there were a few customers already. the self-serve area is clean. the pricing is per pound decent, at $15.99. there are at least eight varieties of soup. i tried the mild beef broth and the szechuan beef tallow soup. the mala flavor in the beef soup is immense. if you like the numbing, this would be a perfect option. my add-ins were spinach, pea sprouts, crab sticks, bean curd, tripe, lamb slices, and beef slices. each order comes with a complimentary rice noodle or potato noodle add-on. the add-ins were slightly overcooked. the beef flavor in the beef broth could be stronger. the tallow soup is delicious. the seating area has a lot of tables. they should play some music to enhance the ambiance. i also ordered the lamb skewers, which were cooked fine. the spices are a bit too sweet for my palate though. this place is relatively new and has a lot of potential!

Highly recommend trying the Wok Fried Spicy Dry Pot if you're in the mood for something flavorful and exciting. I can't wait to return and explore more of the menu!

Perfection! - The veggies and rice/ noodles come with the meat and broth that you order! Veggies come with cabbage, spinach, squash, and carrots, and tofu. Their menu has additional add ons! I typically go for the fish balls, tofu, and quail eggs! I didn't think it would be a large amount but it sure was! -THE MEAT!! OH! you can tell the quality of this meat is up there! it's not underwhelming thin- in fact you taste that meaty fatty flavor! I go for the Toro belly and the kobe beef! I have yet to come back and try other meats tho. And i definitely will be back ;) - Drink vibes? oooh i love me some Yuzu! The server even mentioned a Yuzumosa which I will definitely come back again for - The service was really friendly and attended to us throughout our lunch/ dinner. Customer service is A1! PARKING: decent parking, it's around other places so it is in a lot but if it is a busy time it would be pretty hard to try and get a space. PLACE: fairly big, but not too big, would have to combine a few chairs and tables to accommodate to bigger parties, the sauces and everything are already on the table, so are the dishes as well. FOOD: We got the ultra, Tom Yum Tonkotsu & Shiro Miso Soymilk - Tom Yum tasted really good and it paired well with the meat, the Shiro Miso just tasted more like miso soup than actual soy milk mixed in. American Wagyu & Black Angus Beef Toro - I feel like the American Wagyu was a little too fatty for my liking, or it could be the other way around lol, I kind of don't remember which one was which but one had amazing marbling that melted in your mouth. We also got lychee beer, which was super good, didn't even taste like beer. We had like 3 glasses which is funny because we aren't drinkers but it was so delicious. I recommend any of their fruity beers. Edamame - don't really recommend, comes cold and some pieces were not really good.

We came in with a party of six for dinner on a Monday evening when the restaurant was relatively quiet, with only a few other tables occupied. We asked if it would be possible to combine tables so our group could order multiple broths and enjoy the meal together because sharing one pot for a party of 6 gets a little crowded, but the request was denied despite there appearing to be plenty of available space. As the meal progressed, our broth became extremely cloudy and thick from cooking. We politely asked if we could receive a fresh pot of the same broth--not a different broth, just a new pot so we could continue enjoying our meal. Unfortunately, this request was also denied. The broth flavoring was also underwhelming and started to taste the same after our first refill. What made the experience disappointing was the lack of flexibility and willingness to accommodate reasonable requests, especially during a slow service period. Customer service and hospitality are an important part of the dining experience, and we left feeling that our concerns were dismissed rather than addressed.

A waitress there had told me there would be a $7 charge to do that and I paid anyway, but a waiter from our most recent visit assured us there's no charge to mix broths and that there may have been a miscommunication. Glad I asked! We always order 2 sumos: Black Angus Prime Ribeye and the Premium American Kobe Beef but we decided we love the Kobe beef more and would stick to that moving forward as it is more marbled and tastes fattier. Don't forget to ask them for the spicy drops if you also love spicy! This continues to be our favorite place for shabu.

Food quality is good, all the veggies and meat were fresh. They sadly didn't have enoki mushrooms, but they had shiitake and some others so that was fine. The beers were very refreshing and light, sort of like if cheap American beer was made to actually taste good. Like imagine Budweiser without the hint of cigarette filters and moldy socks. Especially on a hot day this was very nice. Service was fast and the servers were very nice, coming by many times to check on us and promptly refilling. Although the restaurant was pretty empty at 5 pm on a Saturday, not too surprising as it was a while before the dinner rush I guess. So... why 3 stars? It all comes down to the flavorless broth and sauce that seems to be de rigueur for shabu shabu. We tried both the "original" soy/seaweed flavor, which just tastes like water, and garlic miso, which has a very mild flavor. And then we used the two dipping sauces which I are a creamy sesame and I guess a ponzu, which I added some green onion and garlic to. The combination of the very light broths and the very light sauces is... very light. I guess someone might say you "taste the ingredients" more compared to the vastly superior hot pot where you add some flavor via the cooking medium and have a wide variety of flavorful ingredients to make a customized sauce. I can somewhat understand the perspective of wanting to mostly taste the flavors of the raw ingredients... but I don't agree with it. To me shabu shabu is basically hot pot minus flavor, and hence kind of a waste. I will say, pricing is relatively good here. Our bill was under $150 for a ton of food with everyone feeling very full. The restaurant itself is very clean and they have a large and convenient parking lot. If only it was a hot pot restaurant it definitely had all the ingredients for a 5 star review.

Sure it's smoky, and it could feel like the table is greasy, but honestly, you are in a Korean barbecue place. What do you expect? Everything is ordered on a pad that sits at the end of the table. The orders came out really timely, and the plates got cleared pretty quickly. I like the fact that everyone can choose their own broth for their hot pot, while also growing up whatever meats are ordered for KBBQ. The beef tongue was actually my favorite, which was surprising because that's something. I typically don't eat a lot of. But the cut of this particular meat was thin, making it really nice and crispy on the grill. All of the veggies were great for the hot pot, including the mushrooms. I chose the herbal broth, which was actually very balancing a nice to my greasy KBBQ. There is a whole bar in the back with sauces, and other toppings, like cilantro and onion, as well as some fruit. I honestly don't have any complaints about this place, and I definitely would be back again. For four people, the price was not bad at all considering it's San Jose. I actually think that it was one of the more reasonable places to eat, especially if you're hungry.

After about 10 minutes, she seated us with an attitude. The floor around our table was dirty, and the grill had not been cleaned. When we asked someone to clean it, we felt ignored. Our server, Jennifer, helped us briefly and then disappeared for a while. Later, when our grill was burning and we needed assistance, we could see her talking with coworkers despite our requests for help. Other employees eventually stepped in, and I sincerely appreciate them. They provided most of the help we received, and I felt they were the ones who deserved the tip. The most upsetting part happened when we tried to pay. I placed my card inside the check presenter and saw Jennifer take it away. When she returned without my card, she said she had not seen one. Her response made me feel like she doubted I had put it there. While other employees searched for my card, she stood nearby without helping. Another employee eventually found it on the floor, and Jennifer then walked over and picked it up. Mistakes can happen, but the lack of concern and effort to resolve the situation made an already frustrating experience worse. I hope the owner takes this feedback seriously and addresses the cleanliness, staff attitude, and service. We left feeling ignored and disrespected.
