I went there on a recommendation from a Viking Taxi cab driver last year when I was having a TON of problems with my Jetta. I was new to the area, and looking for a mechanic right by my house. I called ahead, and dropped off my car around 8 AM (right when they opened) - explaining the problem (my automatic transmission wasn't working so well - it didn't change gears fast enough when I was going down the highway). The mechanic assured me that he would assess it and give me a call around noon to let me know what the problem was and the price estimate to fix it. 12PM came and went. At 2PM I finally called him - and he said he hadn't gotten around to even looking at the car, but that he would in "just a minute" and to just come by around 4PM and he'd tell me what needed to be done. So, I lost an entire day of work, and headed down to get the damage report. The mechanic then proceeded to tell me that my engine was "shot" and that I had to replace the entire engine, quoting me an estimate of about $5,000 or something equally crazy. I took my car keys and RAN. And took it to another mechanic who fixed a misfiring sensor for $200 within the hour. My engine's fine. I almost got robbed by this place. Go somewhere else! read more

It was the afternoon before Christmas Eve and our car had a major oil leak! Amongst a blown gasket and a few other major issues. My husband is in the Coast Guard and so he is away more than he is home. It was a few days before he was going to leave for a two and half month patrol. And yet again, I was going to have to take on the roles of a single parent. I was afraid that our car wouldn't be fixed before he left and that I would get the run around by a mean mechanic. Being a female, a mom and not knowing anything about cars, I was very hesitant to just randomly pick an auto shop but having a little one, I needed to pick somewhere close to home. I just hoped that I would find a good one. Fortunately, I have a friend who is a bus mechanic and so I can confirm with him whether or a not I am getting an honest answer from any mechanic I go too. I called at least 15 different places and all of them said "can't do anything till after Christmas" and by then, my husband would be off. But then suddenly, I get a call back from Chris's Auto Repair and he said "no problem, bring it in 20 minutes" So I did. Chris was very out going and nice to talk with. Even over the phone, he was polite and cheery. He even offered me ride home since it was freezing out and it was raining but a friend of his, who was taking his truck home, gave me a ride home...right around the corner. All friendly gentlemen. Chris said that he would look at it. He mentioned that on Christmas eve they only work a half day and our car wouldn't be fixed till Friday evening. The day after Christmas. Christmas Eve afternoon, he called, told me all the mechanical terms at me which to me, was a bunch of gibberish, but then he broke it down to simple terms. He told me the actual parts would be cheap, but that it is the labor that it would cost more especially since our car is an old rare car that they don't make anymore. It is an Acura Vigor from the 90's. He said it would be a lot of nuts and bolts. With everything, the ball park figure would be $300.00 and this before he ordered the parts and before he actually took the car apart. Not a bad estimate! From past experiences of having a 1983 Honda Accord, I was very familiar with pricing and labor in general...I doubled check with my friend who is a bus mechanic and he said that Chris was being honest and the price range sounded about right. I called Chris, told him to go through with it and thanked him for taking our car under such short notice and right before the holidays. Friday comes along, I had to make a quick trip out West but I called him. Chris told me that everything was as he said, that the car would be done that evening and the price would be just a little under $300 as he mentioned. Not only did he stand by his word but he even did us an extra favor! Me being out west, my husband not being able to drive and having no license, I asked Chris if he could just drive our car around the corner to where we live and please park the car in our drive way. I told Chris that my husband would be home to meet him. I told him that my husband doesn't drive but that we needed the car Saturday afternoon once I arrive home. Chris said "sure, no problem" Chris fallowed through with his promise! That evening, Chris drove our newly fixed car into our drive way. My husband paid him and Thanked him. We had our car back in a timely manner! At a very affordable rate! There was no BS, nothing but honest answers! Granted, he was a little slow on calling me back but that is expected with mechanics, especially right before Christmas where every thing is crazy! Chris was AWESOME! I can't thank him enough for keeping his word, being prompt, honest, and of course, being at a very reasonable price! I told Chris that if we ever have any problems, that I would definitely go back to him. And that is the truth. I would and I will. The nice thing too, is that Chris delt with me, not my husband and so I felt that Chris was genuine with me and didn't pull any bs beacuse I was a female. Nope, and I have a lot of respect for him and his business. It was funny because when I was taking a Viking cab, in conversation, I told the driver t t my car was being fixed and before I even mentioned Chris's name, the driver said that Chris's Auto Repair was the best place to take it! The driver had then mentioned that his mother had taken her car to Chris's, that Chris was very honest with the old woman, charged her a very affordable rate and had her car back in a reasonable time. The driver's mother since then, has had no problems with the car but was extremely happy with Chris's work. The mother was so happy, that she even called Chris back to thank him for his good honest work! Our car sounds great! It is doing very well in this winter season and we don't have to worry, our car was taken care of! Gotta go to Chris's if you need your car fixed and at an affordable price! read more

I recently moved to Winthrop from downtown Boston and have been looking for a place to service my 2008 Jeep Wrangler. When I went to my old neighborhood shop in Back Bay. Ell Bern Service, to get a headlight bulb changed, they told me my brakes needed to be replaced and that it would cost around $450 for the rear brakes plus another $250 for a rear caliper that needed to be replaced. I decided to wait since my Fiance and I were buying a home in Winthrop and we were cash strapped. This week I called Christopher's and spoke to the proprietor, who quoted me significantly less than what Ell Bern had quoted me for the rear brakes and the caliper replacement. I said great, go head and do the work, and perform an oil change while you're at it. Expecting a $500+ bill, I arrive and Christopher charged me $35, just for the oil change. He said he inspected my brakes and I had just under 50% pads left, which did not need to be replaced. He also said my caliper was fine and did not need to be replaced. In addition, he tighted a shield under my car that had been rattling and driving me crazy. I absolutely could not believe it -- this guy had the go-ahead to perform hundreds of dollars worth of service and I would have never known that I didn't need it. He chose to be honest and tell me the truth. He didn't even charge me for the time it took them to put my car on the lift, remove the wheels, inspect my brakes, and tighten the loose metal piece. If you ask me, he didn't charge me enough for the work he did. Honesty and integrity are qualities I truly admire in people. I have a 2006 Saturn Vue with over 190,000 miles. My brakes went and I took my car to Chris. I told him I didn't want to put too much into the car given the age and condition. I wait for his call assuming my car is trash. When Chris called me and said it was an easy fix and only about $150 I couldn't believe it. Chris is great, friendly, honest. I generally don't feel compelled to write reviews online but this is one occasion that I felt as though it needed one. Being relatively new to the area and in need of a mechanic as my truck breaks down more often than it should, I didn't know which mechanic to bring it to. I don't make a lot of money and wanted a mechanic that was honest, reliable, and trustworthy to fix my truck and charge me for only what was necessary. I usually do all of the work to my vehicles that I can, but some jobs are just left for a garage. Even with a mechanical knowledge, I still get nervous bringing my vehicle to any mechanic wondering how much he will get me for. I decided to give Chris's Auto a shot. My truck's idle was running erratically and it also needed an inspection. To make a long story short, Chris is now the mechanic that I will go to for any vehicle problems. Why? Because he was polite, informative, honest, very knowledgeable, and solved my vehicle's problems without costing me a fortune. He understood my concerns and worries, knew that without a truck I wasn't able to make it to work, etc. He even gave me a ride home after leaving my truck there to which he asked me if I needed a ride. That was cool. So if you are wondering which mechanic to go to, I'd highly recommend bringing it to Chris's garage, hands down. Very honest, repairs are done in a timely fashion and they will tell you if they can't get it done quick if they are waiting for parts or they are extremely busy. Reasonably priced even for the smallest repairs. Highly recommended. read more

These guys are amazing! My car was dead/stuck in my driveway after the barrage of winter storms. Not only did they come to my house to get the car started they also took it with them to the garage. Something AAA couldn't manage to figure out! They took great care of my car and got everything fixed for an incredibly reasonable price. He even suggested things I should look out for in the future since my car is over 100K miles. To top it all off Chris took my car to get inspected because I had a rejected sticker! I never would have expected them to go above and beyond in the ways they did Customer for life. And I will be telling anyone who will listen how great these guys are. Thanks! read more

Still, he gave me what I needed at a fair price (better than the competition), did a great job, and his guy finished faster than he even said he would. I have such good luck at Christopher's. My car was stalling and Christopher fixed it and, really, could have charged me anything because I have no idea about cars (which I'm sure comes across). Anyway, the charge for that repair was $25. And then I was told by a tire shop in Cambridge the other day that I needed brakes, and their quote was $175 more than what Christopher quoted me. I just picked up my car and felt so grateful and happy that I have a mechanic I trust! So I logged on to yelp to throw him some stars. read more

Christopher's Auto rocks! Always comes through for us. We just had Christopher and his crew service our car for the 4th time (all different issues - some regular maintenance). We were able to call him with an emergency, have him fix it that afternoon, and get the car back to us for a trip we couldn't cancel. On a previous visit (clutch), we had him perform the work and GET THIS, when we arrived to pick up the car, the actual cost was lower than their quote (said quote was hundreds less than anyone else). Ten years ago the clutch on another car I had died and I paid hundreds more back then than I did this time. When we moved to the area a couple years ago, we were hoping to find someone we could trust. Recent auto repair experiences had not bolstered our confidence. I live about 20 minutes away from Winthrop and I still make the trip to Christopher's for any problems with my car, no matter how big or small. My family and I have been coming here for years.Chris is an awesome, honest guy. He gets he work done when he says he will, and if something else comes up such as a part not coming in, or he runs into something else with the car he always calls to let you know why ahead of time. My car is 20 years old and I've been in a few car accidents so I have had to see him a handful of times over the past couple of years. Thankfully, so far whenever I have had to have any problem fixed my car is in and out of the shop in a day or two and *knock on wood* has not needed to be fixed again. His prices are very fair especially considering how quickly the turn around is, he's not the type of guy that would rip anyone off. He is always honest with me, telling me if he thinks something with my car can wait to be fixed or if it needs immediate attention. This place is awful!!! I went there once to get an oil change and a belt replaced and left there with my oil overfilled and the belt was never replaced. Also, I saw the mechanic coming out of the liquor store and getting into my car. When I asked him about this they said they were TEst Driving it. Very shady place. The owner, Chris, and his mechanic Joe, both wreaked of POT!! I would tell everyone to stay as far away from this place as possible. read more

THIS PLACE IS THE REAL DEAL !!!!! I read the other reviews before I tried this mechanic but wanted to see for myself. I tried with a simple oil change and I was in at 8:00 and out at 8:16. No problem. One month later I had the dealer look at a problem and they couldn't figure it out. I brought it to Christopher's auto and he promised me himself he would find the problem and fix it. Son of a gun 10:40am I got a call saying the car is ready. He also offered to pick me up at home and get me to his shop ( what shop does that ? ) the price was fair and the service was awesome. All I can say is, maybe the other person should go to another place and see the service others give. Im sure you'll go back to Christopher's once you see the difference. read more

Just over a year ago I came home to visit my parents (in their 70's) and my dad was taking the car in to a new repair shop his friend referred him to. I tagged along to make sure they weren't taken advantage of (even though I'm totally clueless). Christopher did a few repairs, the car ran great and later my husband came to town and said the repairs had been done at a great price. We took our own Honda Civic into Christopher for some work before our drive back to NYC and once again, we were thrilled with the price and and service.
