Lou and the guys at Hubs are very cordial and most important trust worthy. Word of mouth is the best marketing and when a mechanic does a decent job and is most importantly TRUSTWORTHY they have my patronage and my advocacy. I have dealt with many mechanics in the past who have very likely to most definitely overcharged me and certainly charged me for items and labor on my vehicle which absolutely did NOT need repair and which I absolutely did NOT ask for them to do. I can trust Hub Starters, because in my experience they have told me to not do things which weren't important or a safety concern when they could have easily made money from me, but instead put their service before profits. read more

Hub Starters are liars and thieves. They up-charge for work they never do. They robbed me for almost $1,000. Before you think that Hub Starters might not likely be doing the same to you if they haven't already, taking advantage of honest, hard-working people who (they think) don't know anything about their car or engine, ask yourself this: must you always drop your car off to be serviced for an extended period of time? Do they give you a hard time about sitting and waiting for the work to be done? If so, when you pick it up, have them point out to you what work was done. Take pictures before, and take pictures after. Make sure that the work is actually being done. I am a full-time college student and a single female. I am new to the area. I have recently had to start my life over from scratch. I don't have family or friends here. I work for the City and moved here for work. A little over a year ago I found and bought my car. It is a 2004 Ford Taurus. It is my only asset. As much of the work that my car needs done that I am able or capable to do, I do it. My friend and I attempted to to do a tuneup. We did alright, but unfortunately we were only able to change the front three spark plugs and wires on the engine. We couldn't finish it and do the back three, because generally one must take the manifold off. (Alternatively, one might access it from underneath with the use of a lift kit. This I don't have.) Since moving here to Malden, I have had my car serviced at Hub Starters. I was referred by a coworker and someone whom I had thought was a friend. I needed the break pads replaced. While I was waiting for the break pads to be done, I spoke with the owner about some other work I needed done. In particular, I told him that I needed the tune up finished - the back three spark plugs. He told me that they wouldn't have time to do it that day due to the fact that the manifold would need to be taken off and that it would take some time, but we made tentative future plans for me to bring it back to have it done. Fast forward - while at work at my other job one day, my car wouldn't start. I thought it was the starter. I rented a car on my lunch break, expecting to have to have the car towed into Hub Starters for further repairs. When AAA showed up, the service agent was able to jump my car off of the jump kit. It wasn't the starter, it was the battery, he said. He could have replaced my battery right there, without charging me a thing that day. Hell, I could have changed my own battery. Instead, I asked him to tow the car to Hub Starters. I would get the work done that I had been putting off and desperately needed - primarily the back three spark plugs and wires on the engine At the end of the day, Hub Starters charged me just under half a grand. This was to change the battery, replace the drivers side mirror I had broken, but mostly, to complete the pain-in-the-butt tune up I needed so badly. I picked up my car and drove off, and didn't think twice about it. Until my car started intermittently stalling. Then, one day, I popped the hood, and lo and behold - the same old spark plugs and wires. Hub Starters charged me a small fortune for work they never did. I went to Hub Starters to straighten it out. Surely this was an oversight. No way did they intentionally charge me almost $1,000 for work they never did. The battery and the mirror, I could have fixed that myself. I popped the hood to show the owner. The first thing he said was, "these are new wires," fingering the back plugs' wires. Until I pulled out the old matching front wires we had changed, still stored in my trunk. So then he says, "hold on, give me a minute, I'll figure this out." He goes into the shop for a few minutes and then comes back. He has my receipt in his hand, and he tells me, "we charged you for three spark plugs. We didn't charge you for the wires. You didn't ask us to change the wires." I'm floored already. Who ever heard of anyone changing the spark plugs but reusing the old wires? "So you changed the spark plugs but not the wires?" "Yes," he says. I'm about to pop the wire off one of the back plugs to see if they were new plugs. "We changed these ones," he tells me, pointing to the three front spark plugs. The plugs I had already just changed. The plugs that were brand new. "Why would you do that?" I asked him. He said, "because we ran a diagnostic and the machine told us that was where it was misfiring." I didn't need a diagnostic. I needed the three spark plugs on the back of my engine changed. Hub Starters ripped me off and stole almost $1,000 from me, and I still need the work done. Hub Starters, my Cash App is $LittleHypocritic, if you want to return the money you stole. read more

I can't believe this place. Lou, the owner, is not only reasonably priced but the more important quality is that he is HONEST ! Do you know how tough it is to find an honest mechanic ? I am a repeat customer for life ! Thank you Lou ! read more

very disgusting behavior , very disrespectful . Was making a delivery to them to help them out (through door dash) guy was being very rude and started cussing because he didn't understand what DoorDash was and didn't understand that he needs to sign for delivery before receiving because he is very incompetent! read more

This is my second review with Hub Starters. I have never met a more genuine and caring businessman, than Lou. He is so honest and does not try to upsell you. His pricing is very fair and the gentleman at his shop are very respectful and patient. I told Lou "something is making a noise with my car but I don't know what." So I basically asked him to take a shot in the dark. He figured it out within a few hours and was able to repair my car. Thank you again for affirming there are good businesses in this world! read more

I always bring my car to Hub Starters. They are the best. They are Reliable, reasonable, and dependable!!

They are nice people but I had a bad experience. They charged a diagnosis fees of $85 for air bag light and informed me that it can't be fixed because they don't have proper equipment. Well, if you don't have proper equipment you should inform me upfront. Without getting the issue fixed, giving $85 doesn't make sense to me. Before writing the review, I wanted to resolve the issue amicably but it was in vain and unprofessional. I also didn't find their service cheaper, it's on par or more with the equivalent branded auto repair shop where you will have the surety that the issue will be fixed. For conventional oil change, they charge $40 which everyone does in $20. read more

Brought a few vehicles in for oil changes, they've been friendly and helpful every time.

Without question, this is the most honest, fair and reasonable place ever for car repairs. I've been a client for more than 20 years and I have never been dissatisfied with the service, price (generally lower than I expect) and the honesty with Lou, who owns and runs the place. There is no where else to get work done, just HUB. If I could give 10 stars I would read more

I brought my truck into Brian and his crew to have my rear brakes done he absolutely went above and beyond to make sure they were done right. The whole team was friendly and very professional, and at the end the price was far and my truck is running great. I would highly recommend Brian and his crew at hub starter's in Malden you won't be disappointed!! read more

My 2009 Jeep Wrangler engine blew out...needless to say a very big and expensive job no matter where she gets fixed. I asked around where to get my engine rebuilt or replaced and a couple people said the same place...Hub Starters in Malden. I was skeptical and cautious due to the fact Ive been taken advantage of by so many repair places on small jobs let alone replace a whole engine! Lets just cut to the chase....they quoted the job upfront and pointed out all the potential pitfalls. I received daily updates and text pictures of the job in process! End result...the job was done early, just under budget and most important the car runs perfect. Thank you Hub Starters for making a stressful experience as good as it gets! Thank you Brian and Lou! read more

After my alternator went on me on the freeway AAA toed it here and they had an alternator replacement done the next day. Efficient and quick service! I would recommend to anyone needing a mechanic. read more

I recently went to Hub Starters for the first time this past week, and I am now a customer for life. Knowing very little about cars, I am so thankful to have access to a mechanic that I can trust. Fairly priced, excellent work and a family style business that is well run. I really felt that they went out of their way to accommodate me. I hope not to visit soon, but I won't be using anyone else. Thank you Lou and Brian! read more

It was my fault to send my BMW to them. They don't know much about it, not even sure about oil change. Eventually visited another garage and fixed the problem. More regular cars should be OK at their place. read more

Have you ever had an experience when you could talk to your mechanic and they spoke on the same level where you understood each other? This place has that going for it which is just a start. They answer the phone. They call you with updates. To top things off, they do great work and are very reasonable. When you find a great shop like Hub Starters, you stick with them. read more

Went in for a simple bulb change a couple weeks ago; one bulb change and the guy charged me $100 (they are $35 for a pair at AutoZone) then when the same bulb went off again a few days ago we brought it back in and this guy tries telling us we have tons of electrical issues. We tried asking what exactly the issue was and asked him to explain it but he kept cutting me off, raising his voice and telling me it was going to cost ALOT more. He got even more upset when I kept asking questions and told me he wanted to talk to someone else about my car... Horrible horrible man with no manners no tact and no Customer Service skills and belittling me which i can only assume is because I'm a woman... Brian you are the worst individual I've ever encountered and i wouldn't recommend your services for a junker. read more

I always went to valvoline because i felt like it was the best. Then I came here and I was 100% wrong. There prices are so reasonable, and unlike valvoline it's not kids working in your car it's trained professionals. After going here I will never EVER go back to valvoline or any mechanic shop for that fact again read more

Called for a starter today for a 25 year old truck, and they had one ready in an hour. Why would anyone go to an auto parts store for a starter or alternator. Prompt service, great prices, It doesn't get much better than that. read more

I went to Hub Starters & Alternators because I needed a new alternator. All the workers were nice. They know how to talk to us customers. But they installed a rebuilt alternator without my permission. I paid them thinking that they installed a new alternator. Later that day, I looked at my receipt and it said "rebuilt alternator". I didnt know what that meant and I didnt try to find out what it meant because like I said, I thought they installed a new alternator. A few weeks later, the low battery light came on. I thought my battery needed replaced. My friend looked at my car & said that the alternator was bad & that the alternator was rebuilt. This is when I found out what rebuilt meant. I came back to Hub Starters and they gave me another rebuilt alternator. They didnt charge me anything. They gave me no problems. I give them credit for that. But the reason I had to back to them is because they installed a rebuilt alternator without my permission. If they were honet they would've installed a new alternator & I would not have had to go back to them. read more

I brought my Charger to Lou 2 years back in hopes he would fix a racking noise int he engine. He installed used spark plugs and changed the oil, and sent me on my way. 30 minutes later the car died. Not only did they use used parts, but they didn't fix the problem and charged me 420.00. I brought the car to another place and I was told the bottom half of the engine was gone. I had to replace the engine, minus the 420.00 that was stolen from me by Lou. STAY AWAY. THEY ARE NOT TRUSTWORTHY read more

I have gone to hub starters for 20 years and have only great things to say. Here's an example of how good Lou n his mechanics are: I bought a brand new honda crv n took it to Lou for an oil change. They mention my left stabilizer link has play n ask if i have heard a noise. I had heard a noise, but thought it was me over hearing things. They say take it to dealer cause it's under warranty. I do. It took the dealer three times to diagnosis it. The first time they found no noise... The second time they tighten things...the third time yup they said it was the 'left stabilizer link,' which I told them to check it on visit number one n two. Thanks Lou! read more

I'm a recent convert to Hub Starters. I started working in Malden in August and asked around to figure out where to take my XTerra, which has had a variety of issues in the last year or two. Like another reviewer said, it didn't take me long to know this place would be my new go-to. Not only do they do good work, but they take the time to explain what's happening with the vehicle, the work that they do, and what might need to happen in the future. Best of all, you can feel confident that you are not being taken advantage of. I am currently in the process of recommending Lou and the rest of the crew at Hub Starters to anyone who will listen. read more

I've been bringing my Kia Optima to Hub Starters for the last 2 years and have been very happy with the customer service, service to my vehicle and quick turn-around. They also double-up the paper floor mats to keep my tan interior looking clean! (Thanks guys!) Five Stars! read more

I've recently brought my 2003 Honda Pilot in to Hub Starters for the first time. As soon as I walked in the door I knew I would never go to another shop again. Everyone that works there is so friendly. The guys there explained everything they did, I know to most that doesn't mean much, but to someone that doesn't really know all that much about cars it meant a lot, I never felt like i was being taking advantage of or like i was being sold something I didn't need. They answered every one of my stupid questions without making me feel stupid. They did awesome work for decent prices. I have recommend these guys to everyone i know. read more
