I have a 2012 Camry. As about a 180,000 miles on it and still runs and drives like new thanks to Mully's Automotive! Unfortunately I needed new brakes and rotors all the way around. I never shop around anymore because I always get the best quality of service and price here but you're but for curiosity curiosity I checked with 2 other places. Well known care care local chain gave me a quote of $280- over what I paid here. And the Toyota dealer wanted a crazy $412- more than my cost at Mully's. Once again I saved hundreds, got higher quality parts and better service here!!! read more

****This is an update, check out the original**** I hate to strip this place of a star, but unfortunately I must. Don't get me wrong, this place is still awesome. They take good care of their customers, do not charge exorbitantly large rates (some charge about 100 to diagnose a check engine light) They also have a ton of expertise under their roof, and, as far as I know, will not try to rip you off. They explain the problem to you, so you know what is going on with your vehicle. While this is all great, the following things cost this place a star: * They do charge a little more labor than some other mechanics. (Not in terms of per hour, but in terms of hours they bill for) * When I leave my car to them because something is wrong, they do not always call ahead with the price, and ask if I want to go ahead and do it. While there were instances where I had gotten an estimate beforehand, there were also instances where I left a car with a problem I was not aware of, and got a call; that car was ready, and costs X dollars. (If you ask, however, they could probably call to authorize any work) * They are not the best about calling back, they will call when your vehicle is ready, or when there is a diagnosis on a problem (may have to ask for this call) but if you ask for calls periodically on the status of your vehicle, you may not get them. * They have an agreement with SureCritic, which is great for them to have honest feedback on their business available to the public., however, while I understand it is the norm to have to opt-out of such things in America, I did not even know that SureCritic was provided with my information (phone number, name) Don't get me wrong, the guys who work here are great, honest, know what they are doing, and will take very good care of you and of your car. The above are just my "complaints" where as while they are still one of the best mechanics out there, these are the few things holding them from a perfect rating. read more

The first time we brought our car to Steve we had a blown clutch. He fixed it within the time he said he would and as he was describing the mechanics of the clutch, he looked like he was getting tears in his eyes. This guy loves and knows clutches. We have a Subaru Forester and they are known for having clutch issues (found info about this on all sorts of Subaru customer forums). So anytime we have had a problem w/the clutch sticking (the main problem), Steve is great: fixes it right away and he works hard at getting it done right. When we were looking at buying a used car, we had him inspect the potentials and he always gave us feedback that helped make the decisions much easier. We picked a great car and went into the decision w/eyes wide open, thanks to him and his expertise. I'm definitely a fan and have recommended him many times over to friends and family, who have also been pleased with his work. read more

Contrary to what Katy N. says, I am NOT a family member or connected to Mully in any way, except for being a loyal customer. My wife and I have had Mully do work on several of our vehicles and have been completely satisfied each time. Mully is an honest mechanic and businessman. If the work does not absolutely have to be done, he'll tell you. He most certainly does not jack up prices and will tell you exactly what he pays for the parts that he uses. If there are cheaper parts out there, he will tell you that there are and why he chooses not to use them (always for reasons of quality). Mully is dedicated to his craft. On my most recent trip, when Mully called me with several options and estimates, he explained everything in great detail and did not pressure me in any direction. HE KNOWS HIS STUFF: we talked for about 20 minutes, and he is clearly passionate about cars. I would recommend Mully's to anyone looking for a reasonably-priced, honest mechanic who takes great pride in his workmanship. Some other reviews say that it might take you awhile to get your vehicle in (well worth the wait), but I haven't experienced that: I called Monday afternoon, got my Jeep in Wednesday morning, and had it back that afternoon. Mully even took time to explain to me exactly how I should seat the new brake pads. He told me the whole story about how they're baked in a 600 degree oven, etc: again, this guy is passionate about cars, and you can hear it when he talks about them. Love 'em! My wife's family has been going here for years, so whenever my wife's car needs a fix or something, we take it here. Never had any problems, and they really treat you well here. I don't know crap about cars, but they explain the repairs in a way that makes sense, doesn't make you feel like an idiot, and give ya a fair price. I had recently moved to the area and was worried that a new place would try to sell me on things I didn't need or overcharge me but after my first experience at Mully's I left feeling relieved. They were straight to the point about what I asked from them and didn't try to convince me I needed extra things that I hadn't come in for. They were reasonably priced, super friendly, and relatively timely. They even took the time to give me some advice in terms of registering my car to a new state and inspection information. I will 100% be going back to them for all my future car needs! Update: I returned months later for an oil change and the owner made sure to squeeze me in, even though that meant he did the oil change himself. He even put air in my tires and replaced a small part free of charge. They are extremely considerate. Highly recommend! read more

We have been bringing our vehicles to Mully for the past 4 years. He has worked on all of our cars - Honda, Subaru, and Jeep - and has been very honest about everything. He is VERY fair on pricing (we needed a part for a jeep and he charged us less than any other mechanic or supplier or the internet and he said he'd look for a used part). However, since they offer good prices, excellent service and can fix almost anything in a day, they are very busy. It usually takes about a week to 10 days to get your vehicle in - but it's worth the wait! read more

As a woman who knows pretty little about cars, it was SO important to me to find a car place where the mechanics take the time to explain what the heck is going on to you. Every time I have to bring my car in, whoever I'm talking to really explains what the problem was, shows me the parts that they bought, and breaks down the cost for me. I just had to bring my car in a few times over the past couple weeks because they couldn't quite nail what was wrong- but once they did, they bought the part, replaced it, and didn't even charge me the labor for it... likely because of how many times I had to bring it in. I'm just glad it's fixed! I highly recommend Mully's- except that leaves me conflicted because then they'll get busier :) read more

My Jeep has been there twice & both times very satisfied & pleased. The last time was to have a fender & grill replaced, also the rear wiper motor was shot. It was all done pretty quickly & nicely. The only short coming is because he is one of a few honest mechanics they do get busy. read more

Mully was a godsend to me last fall with my '03 Jeep Liberty. I came to him after my steering failed while pulling into a parking lot on my commute home. Had just moved to the North Shore, and my old mechanic in Waltham was no longer convenient. He also quoted me several hundred dollars more than Mully for the same repair (power steering rack). Mully was trustworthy, reassuring, and there for me when I needed him, twice. (My alternator failed on Christmas Eve, while on the way home with the Christmas roast.) Both repairs were done efficiently, and as another review noted, without any upsell. These are just the kind of people you need when you drive an older vehicle. I dunno. They have misdiagnosed my failing starter and did a close to 500 dollar carbo-vaccuming, or something, claiming that the sluggish start was due to sludge build up. Unfortunately when my starter actually failed, they were too backed up to deal with me and said that it would be about a week before they could look at my car. Wonderful experience! I had called around for a quote on my breaks and they explained everything to me and gave me the best price. I have referred a few friends who have had the same great experience. For example, a friend needed an expection stinker, there are only 3 places that do that in salem. Mully's is a very honest garage and does great work. I went to have my brakes done and was expecting to pay for all new brakes. They checked them first and found that the front were in great condition (they did have a squeal ) and the backs just needed adjusting. Its not easy to find a good mechanic but this place is my go to place now. I inherited a car that had a check engine light on that I brought to two places in the area and they told me it would take a lot of time to actually figure out. I couldn't get it inspected and finally brought it here. They figured out the problem in a day and their price was reasonable. I had them do a complete check on the car to see what it needed for inspection and they were upfront, honest and I can't recommend them enough. It is a very busy place though, they do a lot of business in the Salem area so make sure you set up an appointment. Need a mechanic, you've found one! read more

We asked to get two tires replaced. Turns out we had a shattered rim on one of them. They tried to find a replacement for us but had no luck. They were able to outsource the welding of our rim for an insanely low cost. They gave use that at cost for the welding. Beyond expectations for customer service. He can be gruff but he's just getting things done. I will take my car to him every time. read more

Honest; I have to start the review with this word. Been a customer for 15 years and it's consistently good service and fair prices. He even called to say "I can get the part cheaper if you can leave the car overnight". WHO DOES THAT? An honest business like Steve Mullins has. If he can't do it, he'll steer you right. Don't let the back-lot look of the business scare you. It's no-frills master mechanics that do it right and take ownership. The tire pressure light was on on my Toyota Yaris. Mully was the sweetest guy ever. He lifted my car and checked the tires for any holes. Then he filled it with air and didn't charge me a penny! We have been bringing our cars to Mully's Auto Repair in Salem for several years. There are 3 main reasons why we are repeat customers. First, Mully really knows his stuff when it comes to cars!! We've had a variety of issues with our cars, and he always seems to know exactly what's wrong (or how to find out), and what to do about it. Secondly, they are quick and efficient; although they are busy, they are always able to see us in a reasonably short time, and their turnaround time is pretty fast too. Last but definitely not least, Mully is committed to providing service at a reasonable price, so you never feel like you're being taken advantage of (something I do find concerning about car repair in general). I've been to Mully's a couple of times sonic I moved to Salem last July and I've had honest and reliable service when I've gone. Mully has taken the time to let me know what work it needs done and the prices have been fair and reasonable. So, last year I needed to replace all 4 tires after driving/moving across country and the place who changed my oil told me I needed my brakes done and recommended to go the mechanic next to their store. Sensing a scam I went to Mully's to have my car checked and he changed out my tires and told me the brakes were fine. I was in this week to finally get my brakes done, after pushing them a little too much. I was able to bring my car in the morning I called without an appointment. He offered to give me a ride back to work, since he had to test drive it anyways, but I already had a ride. I hate finding mechanics when i move and I'm totally glad i found this place! read more

This place is, unfortunately, the kind of auto shop that gives mechanics a bad name and an untrustworthy reputation. This repair shop allegedly "replaced" the clutch in my Subaru-the whole apparatus-clutch kit, bearings, etc. I have taken such great care of this car and have been driving a manual for over 10 years, this has been an exceptionally reliable, fun car to drive. I should also mention that the shop owner was aware that I was leaving town the day after getting the car back....and sure enough, after driving the car for only a few hours, the clutch felt awful. The car was driving worse than before I brought it in!! And, my car was making a whining noise whenever the clutch was out (this would turn out to be a problem with the bearings). After attempting to call the shop and determine why the car was running worse-surprise! I of course never got a call back, but I had left town so I wasn't their problem, right? Wrong. I am their problem now because the car just had to have a clutch replaced and all the bearings, AGAIN. Now, to be clear, I had not been driving my car since that month that the clutch was allegedly replaced because it was working so terribly. A tire also blew out so I definitely wasn't driving it. I brought the car into a Subaru dealership and the first thing they tell me-YOU NEED A NEW CLUTCH. The awful vibrations and grinding from the clutch was a sure sign that the clutch had been in there for a long time...... Amazing, right? The dealership technicians were shocked by the condition of the clutch, a clutch that was allegedly only 30 days old! The clutch was found to be a mess, old, cheap Korean parts were thrown in there, the bearings were a mess. What a job. Thanks alot Mully. I just got robbed by this auto shop. I would have used another word but it is probably not appropriate for a yelp review. Don't ever bring your car here unless you intend to end up getting all of this "work" done again. Great prices? Yeah, probably because they know they are stealing from you and all they have left of a conscience is to at least charge you a little less, but not much. This is quite an unfortunate experience. I now understand why most people who want the job done right when it comes to their cars automatically go to the dealership. At least the dealership works with proper parts, guarantees their work and are skilled in particular cars. This auto repair shop thinks that they can just get away with stealing, lying and cheating customers because they have no knowledge of cars. Well, I did my research Mully and I know you screwed me and this has just begun. I hope that at least one person reads this review and ignores all of the other "good" reviews (probably family members) so that at least they don't get taken for a ride by this shop. we recently moved to the northshore from cambridge and needed to find a great, honest, trustworthy and fair mechanic for our two 99 subarus. why is finding a good mechanic and/or dentist so difficult?! well, after searching yelp and finding mully's i was pleased with all the great reviews. i ended up taking my car in for a new exhaust system - something i wasn't prepared for as i was thinking i only needed a quick patch job on a pipe. steve mully was amazing. he didn't gouge me with the prices for the parts or the labor. he explained everything very concisely and offered to show me the old parts when i picked up the car. the job was not cheap but would have been much more expensive had i taken it elsewhere and i'm certain i would not have been so satisfied going elsewhere. last week we took in our other subaru for a new wheel bearing and, again, steve mully was brilliant. i am thrilled to have found this place and will continue to take our cars there for as long as we remain in the area. read more
