Jerry, the owner, was excellent with communicating with me and my insurance company and all around very helpful throughout the process. He assisted with my rental car and even went above and beyond by fixing a flat on my spare tire without me even asking. The repair work came out fantastic. I saw the review by the person with the SL560 and needed to post one…read more First, it's always possible a mechanic might not catch your problem OR that there might be multiple issues contributing to a problem. I have a 96 S500 coupe (before it was called the CL500). I had a stalling issue where it would suddenly stall and then not start up again for hours, if at all. I brought it to the dealer, the dealer recommended about 15K in parts to randomly replace that might fix it. I didn't go for that of course. I brought it to an indy shop that's no longer around and they did days of testing and couldn't figure out what the problem was. Basically I then used it for 2 years, only driving in the summer because the stalling issue didn't happen. I think I spotted Nick on Yelp just because I was curious about giving it another shot and figured I'd ask him if he was up to diagnosing it. He did and I was shocked to get a call in a couple of days that it was ready to pick up. Honestly, I had the dealer prior to their 15K estimate to do diagnose it and they told me the same thing ... but then they couldn't start it when I went to pick it up. I picked it up and I was a pretty surprised, it was running better but I still figured that it would soon stall out and I'd have it back to Nick. Nick charged me for the very reasonably priced Mercedes diagnostic which included some re-learning for some of the computers plus $25 for the part. The years of problems were down to the fuel pump relay, somehow many sincere mechanics had missed that the relay was only working intermittently. Nick was honest, charged a very fair price, he was diligent in the diagnostic, and checked/reset a bunch of things while he had the Mercedes Diagnostic system connected. Since then, I've been happy to recommend Nick's shop for other Mercedes owners. Thanks Nick! P.S. with a car like this, and for the SL560 folks, it's a good thing if you can replace some of the simpler stuff yourself. In trying to chase down the problem myself, I replaced the air-intake, the throttle body, all the little hoses, various sensors. All this seemed to help the car run better/smoother but didn't fix the stalling problem until Nick got to it. BTW, all those little rubber hoses looked like new but simple fell apart with a slight pull.

He plugged in his computer and explained what he was looking for, then brought me along on a test drive, pointing out a couple of sounds I hadn't really noticed. Then when he put the car on the lift, he brought me underneath with him and showed me everything he was looking at. He found that all four brake rotors were rusted (which I got the dealer to fix for free, saving me $700), but gave the car the all clear besides that. Overall, an extremely friendly and useful experience. Here's the kicker, though: because he had made me wait for 20 minutes or so, he insisted that I not pay him anything for the inspection. Wow.

He then charged me an extra 150 dollars on top of the extra money he got from my insurance company, because he lied about how much the insurance company pays for labor. He also said he charges extra 150 dollars because of the superior work that his business does as opposed to other auto body shops. On top of all this, I had to bring my car back to the shop because they did not properly finish the job and reconnect rear lights which is a safety issue his excuse was my technician said that the car was all set. That is terrible and shorty work on his part to let that car leave his shop with the break lights not working! I would never take another car there because of the poor quality of work and the greed of the owner Dave, who cares about making money and screwing people over rather than just being honest and doing quality work for the money that they are allotted through the insurance company.In closing, he stated to me that I just have to submit paperwork to my insurance company to retrieve my 150 dollars back. The insurance company laughed at me and said he straight lied to you, and NO OTHER AUTO BODY SHOP ON THE BORTH SHORE CHARGES ANY ADDITIONAL FEE.

I brought my car into Boxer to have them do an oil change - here is what the bill lists as services…read morethey perform during an oil swap: Lubricate and check chassis, change oil and filter, check air filter and breather filter. Check all fluid levels and tire pressures. Perform basic safety inspection, road test vehicle. I watched the entire process, here is what they did: They changed the oil and filter, maybe checked (some of) the fluids. Nothing else. Most concerning, once they lowered the car off the lift, they started it and DID NOT check the oil level again. Like most shops they pre-measured the oil to add to the car after draining the old oil. This is a fine system as long as you get all the old oil out (spoiler - this doesn't happen as consistently as you might think). Too much or too little oil can have disastrous consequences. After an oil change, you run the car and re-check the level. This is peak half-assedness. I wouldn't come back here again or recommend that anyone does.

Finally brought it to Boxer Motor works (which I should have done in the first place) and he informed me the cat converter was under warranty. He was right. Brought it to my subaru dealership and they fixed it for free. Saved me over $1000. He easily could have not told me it was under warranty and done it himself. Gotta respect that. I'll be bringing my Subaru to him for all future work.
