I've brought in my car a few times; sometimes small things like an oil and air filter tuneup, and then a bigger operation of all new brake pads and rotors with new tires and new calipers all at once. John and his team were always straight forward with me on what they saw, and options to fix things and I always got my car back by the end of the day. Today they just did a quick check on an engine sensor that came up on my dash this week, and found I just had a sensor that was grimy/dirty and no service was needed. John and Charlie are amazing (as well as their mechanics who do a great job). We have been bringing our cars there now for a while. For example, today, my wife's Jeep grand Cherokee AC went out all of a sudden and she needed to get it done quickly given that it's been in the 80° range last day or two. Their prices are roughly 2/3 of what the jeep dealer charges and they got her in immediately when I called and they had her out in about an hour. Took my Honda civic here because the clutch wasn't working. The owner told me he could replace it for $500 cash. Two weeks later it broke ( fifth gear would not work.) I purchased aftermarket wheels & wheel locks for my Jeep, and somehow lost the key for the locks during my cross-country move. Well, I'm almost overdue for a tire rotation... and still no key. I spent the week calling different shops for quotes, and they all seemed confident they would be able to help. To my surprise, SIX of those auto shops refused to work with aftermarket product or just didn't have the right tools. Right when I was about to accept defeat, I pulled in to the seventh shop of the day, Top Auto, where John assisted me. Great service. I was driving to work and just as I was going into the Ted Williams tunnel my transmission stopped changing gears. I was able to keep moving only at about 25 mph and I made it out of the tunnel. While limping along 1A I spotted Top Auto repair with a big sign that said transmission. I pulled in and left my car with them. The repair only took 2 days and it runs like new. It was a good experience as far as break downs go, but John the mechanic and owner was fantastic. At first prior to scheduling an appointment, I spoke to a gentleman he was excellent. I arrived at the front desk, and the experience was utterly disgusting. The front desk smells like cigarettes, mess everywhere, and I had to stand there for four minutes as the front desk woman complained to who knows who. As I stood there forced to over hear the conversation, the woman goes, can you make sure they pick up "the black people" in a Condescending tone. I walked away, neither did she care or bother to ask me why I'm there at any point. I will not support any business who employees such a person. read more

I visited Top Auto Repair in Revere this morning for my regular oil change. I was pleasantly surprised to meet Marnett, the new General Manager. She was very welcoming and professional. A great addition to the garage. As usual, Raffy, one of the mechanics performed the oil change quickly. As a customer, I must say that it is always very reassuring to see him working on my car. He's fast, efficient and trustworthy. Today, unexpectedly, I had to replace my front and left lower ball joint, luckily at a good price. It could have been worst. :) I definitely recommend this shop because not only they are open 7 days a week (from 8am-5pm) but they are efficient, honest and affordable. So happy to find this team! This was the most open, communicative shop I've worked with (and with my car's extensive history, that's saying something). Top Auto folks were friendly from the get-go, clear about how to get the car towed to them, gave me an honest and reasonable quote for the issue I thought I had, and kept me updated. Turns out my car had an issue that needs a dealership fix, and they've gone above and beyond to help me take the next steps to find the warranty report and info on how to remedy it, even though the issue won't fall under their care. If anything comes up (and I'm sure it will) I will definitely be going back to Top Auto for the fix. read more

Great auto shop! Conveniently opened on a Sunday. Brought my car in for a busted radiator, which they had no problem fixing, at a very reasonable price and time. They also pointed out some other things I already knew I had issues with, like a spring bolt on exhaust, and a busted end link. I was gonna do on my own, but they gave me the right price and I had them added on. Had my car back in 2 days, driven it for a week, and all is perfect in the world as of now. Marnett was great! I have been here *many* times & I can honestly now say that I only trust Top Auto with my car & they have always come through for me. I have a 12 yr old Honda which has had all the problems old cars eventually have (200,000+ miles on it). Last week, I had an emergency after someone hit my parked car & left it undriveable. I waited overnight for Top Auto to open because I didn't want to have my car towed anywhere else. Tyranny was slipping badly. Brought it in at 10am. They explained there was a leak in the transmission line, and maybe all it needed was fluid. Filled with fluid and it ran fine. We had them fix the lines /leaks. Could have told us a replacement tyranny was needed approximately 2000.00 but fixed the whole problem for 500 Great Job!!! An honest shop is a great find. I highly recommend Top Auto Repair! I drove up to the Boston area from NJ last night during a snowstorm and hit a pothole and blew out my tire. I brought it in this morning and they were super friendly and helpful and went above and beyond to get me a new tire quickly- especially knowing I wasn't from the area. They gave me a choice of tires at different price points which I appreciated and went and picked up the tire themselves to expedite the process. I had my car back in under an hour and a half from bringing it in. I was worried getting the new tire would be a whole weekend event but they saved my weekend. These guys are amazing. They do great work and have good customer service. I have a 2009 Nissan Murano that was stalling out. I took it to Nissan and they couldn't figure out the problem. They said it could cost me thousands to have them diagnose the problem. I brought it to my local mechanic and he kept it for 3 months then told me it would cost thousands to fix all of the problems and the car was junk and said that I should just get rid of it. Growing up on the North Shore and having friends and family all over the area it is still hard to find trustworthy mechanics. I have a 2013 Impreza and I came in and pretty much offered any amount of money to install a new transmission as soon as they could. The owner right away came over to my car and took it for a test drive and a general inspection of my concerns. He showed me the options for the replacement parts on his computer. If I wanted to he could've done the work for me, but told me based on the year and the mileage it wasn't really worth it. He also offered to check out a new car for me so I don't wind up with the same problem again. I really appreciate the authenticity I felt from the interaction with John, as well as speaking with his crew members on the previous day. He runs a good job with good guys working there. Great service, friendly staff, overall a great experience. I was going out of town for LDW and my brake light went out. I didn't want to drive on the interstate without brake lights, but I called a few places that weren't able to get me in right away. Then I called Top Auto and told her my problem and I was able to get in within an hour. The sensor was going crazy, it wasn't clear what the issue was but it seemed to be more than just a blown bulb (which I had also replaced about three months prior). Our car was having a few problems that needed to get fixed. We had been procrastinating getting it fixed for a while due to our budget restrictions. Since we are new to the area we didn't know of any places so I searched online and found Top Auto. When I showed up at Top Auto the place didn't seem like much but as soon as I started talking to them I was astonished by their knowledge and efficiency. Even before I told him what my issues were he knew exactly what needed to be done. I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to cars but at Top Auto I felt like I was learning. He showed me exactly what the problems were and told me what my options were. They looked at my car immediately and within 15 minutes I knew what needed to be done and how much it would cost. What blew me away was that the repairs were way less than I thought that they would be. Every thing was fixed by the end of the day and our car has been running great ever since. Don't take your car here under any circumstances. I brought my car in, and they tried to make me pay $150 for a part that I ended up buying new on Amazon for $20. (And which ended up not needing to be replaced in the first place.) At another point I brought my car in to have the battery replaced; I paid for a new battery, then found out later that they gave me a used one, which died soon afterwards. Not only that, but it turned out that the battery was put in completely wrong. I called AAA when it died, and it was installed so badly that they guy assumed that I had put it in myself, and that I didn't know what I was doing. He couldn't believe that a professional (although I use the term loosely) had done the job. But when I told him that I had it done at Top Auto, he understood, and said that they're pretty well known for doing low quality work and overcharging people -- he said that when he picks people up for AAA he never tows cars to them anymore. Between their exorbitant prices and low quality, I would very strongly recommend against taking your car there. read more

Brought my car in for what I thought was transmission issues, but after a quick inspection from John's team, it turned out that the problem was with my exhaust system. Don't be fooled by their title, they do more than transmissions. They were able to yield together a part for my system that would have cost me x2 the price through the dealer as well as clean up my engine, etc. They did a great job for a very fair price and now my car is running like it did when we first got it. Moreover, they were able to complete the process in time for my wife to make her work meeting, finishing the job an hour earlier than their initial estimate. These guys are in Revere but they are just over the border from East Boston, and are only a few miles from downtown Boston, the North End, Waterfront, Charlestown, etc. (They're convenient for me, because I live in the North End). They work on their own cabs, but also on customer's cars. I tend to trust garages that do a lot of taxi work as they're usually very matter-of-fact, efficient, and cheap -- no fancy-Dan service writers standing in flocks behind counters telling you that you have to bring your car in a week from Wednesday and it's going to cost you X thousands of dollars. Just call them, they usually say, bring it in right away, and they go right to work. The reason I'm writing this Yelp review -- I have no relationship with the owner or the garage, other than as a customer -- is because, several times over the last two years, I've had something go wrong with my car -- making a funny noise, light comes on, that kind of thing. And believe it or not, up until today, it just happened that every time I took it over, the owner came out, did a quick check, and said to me, "You don't need any work done, you're just a little low on brake fluid/power steering fluid/etc., and out he comes with a bottle of the stuff, pours a bit of it in, and sends me on my way, problem fixed, no charge! Today, as it turns out, I had some brake work that needed to be done, but I was laughing with him today over the fact that at last, I was able to actually pay him for some services rendered, after all these months! I'm not kidding you, this is exactly what happened; he did not know me from Adam before I showed up there the first time; and these guys are as honest, in my opinion, as the day is long. They have a lot of mechanics, work quickly, and charge very reasonable prices; they also work on the more expensive German cars -- BMW, Porsche, VW, Audi -- as well as regular cars. I joined Yelp today just to write this review, and quite likely, I'll never write another one -- I'm not given to such things -- but I wanted to let people in Boston who need car repairs done quickly, honestly, and inexpensively, about this place.
