We had a fantastic time here listening to the Kevin St. James band play live jazz!! You can check them out every Tuesday night! The service was really nice! The food was underwhelming. The nachos were good but we opted for the added chicken on top which was a mistake. That chicken tasted dry and freezer-burnt. The Dublin spring rolls were decent. The drinks were ok. I got pretty weird tasting old-fashioned. I would definitely go here again on Tuesday nights for the live jazz, but I will probably eat before and stick to some simpler beverages!

Stepped in this place one late night after work because I was hungry and they did not disappoint. The bartender was cool. I asked how good are the fish tacos and he said I promise you they are good. And he was right. 3 good sized tacos with onion rings and I set for the night. Great atmosphere, food and prices.

First time trying this place. Overall would recommend! Ordered chicken parm but the portion sizes weren't that good. They gave me more pasta than chicken and overall just wasn't the meal I expected. Didn't try the fish and sweet potato fries but looked good. Grilled chicken tortellini and it was tasty. I would order it again. Service is quick and you're able to get seated quickly. Atmosphere is peaceful and very clean.

I went to eat dinner and participate in Trivia Night on Wednesday evening. To start off with the good, I really enjoyed Trivia Night. It's one of the best trivia nights I've been to here in New Haven, and the best thing is it's every Wednesday! There was a broad range of niche trivia topics so everyone has a chance to participate. It's definitely a fun place to be if you want to hang out with friends and work out your brain. If you get first place, you get $50 off your tab, and if you win second place, you get $25 off your tab. This definitely raises the stakes of the game! In terms of food, I would say that it is very mid. I ordered a draft cider which arrived in a timely manner, but other people in my table had to wait a very long time for their drinks to arrive. I ordered a burger with a side of onion rings. The onion rings were not the standard thick onion rings, but resembled curly fries. They were thin, flavorless, and crispy. The burger was very dry and also flavorless. I'm sure that there are probably better options on the menu. My friends did say that the curly fries and wings are good. However, from my experience, I would not order the burger with a side of onion rings again.

Such a fun place the last time I was here was probably 3 decades ago. The place is exactly the same as I remembered. We went to see a band here tonight and had a great time.

On a dark and rainy Sunday evening we arrived at this restaurant only to discover all the street parking was filled so we opted to valet park. The restaurant was fairly busy early in the evening and the adjoining pub must have been filled with patrons celebrating someone's birthday because it was quite loud early on. We were met at the door and seated at a large table next to the window where throughout the evening we watched a steady stream of people carrying pizza boxes from Modern Pizza. The restaurant is very casual with dark woodwork throughout that could use a little touch up. I tendered our expiring Groupon that included an appetizer to share, 2 entrees and 2 glasses of house wine to our waiter. He suggested we start off with the pan seared scallop appetizer which would have been our first choice had I not prepared the same dish for dinner the evening prior. Instead we chose the fried calamari with spicy Sicilian sauce. We then were served a very generous, almost a loaf, of warm crusty bread along with EVO. Our appetizer was soon served and it proved to be a winner as the squid were tender, delicious and spicy. Entree prices initially seemed to high, but a fresh mesclun salad gently dressed in a balsamic vinaigrette is included. We each chose rack of lamb as our entrees which included mashed potatoes and a medley of fresh vegetables with summer squashes predominating. I was expecting a 1/2 of rack, but we received a full rack of lamb served medium rare as requested. There was a delicious crust that complement the tender lamb. Neither of us came close to finishing our entrees so lamb redux is on our agenda. Service throughout was excellent.

So the only thing different from when this came out was I ate the other SMALL piece of lobster. $34 people... for this

Go to Amici Tavern for great and portion to price steak. I'd give our server 5 stars. She was very nice, attentive, accommodating, probably the best server I've had in a while. 2 stars for the place. We got the groupon ($92) value for $63. NOT $92 worth of food by any means! Comes with one app, 2 entrees less than $30, and 2 glasses of wine. The wine was good. The pre dinner salad was literally a pile of romaine lettuce, with some sour balsamic. No thanks. Antipasti was okay, nothing great... more bread than anything. Entrees tasted good but the portions... what!? See my photo!!! $34 (had to pay extra for this entree) for a very small piece of filet, 2 pieces of lobster the size of my index finger and 2 shrimp. I asked for just veggies on the side, so more asparagus that was soggy. We were SO hungry after long days of work... ate, paid and left. Will never be back again for dinner... maybe for the bar and drinks on the patio. That was the best thing about this place. And for an "upscale" restaurant that's supposed to be Italian... the decor was horrible, not invited at all. There are finger paintings and kids drawings all over the place. Not to say that it's not cute, but for an adult restaurant? A little weird.

I'm back! I love this place! It's quiet here ) it's only a Tuesday) but we're late (arrived at 9:15…read morePM). There is no shortage of decor here! I like the huge carafe of ice water and the spicy potato chips! For my first drink, I'm having a Negroni. A negroni is an Italian cocktail, made of equal parts gin, vermouth rosso (red, semi-sweet), and Campari, generally served with ice, and commonly garnished with an orange slice or orange peel. It is considered an apéritif. They also have an Obi Wan Negroni made with Cold Brew Infused Campari instead. For my first food item, I'm having the Cream of Mushroom soup with chicken. Cream of mushroom soup is a simple type of soup where a basic roux is thinned with creamor milk and then mushrooms or mushroom brothare added. This is delicious! It's nice and hot with a lot of shredded chicken. For my entree, I'm having the Brussels Sprout Salad made with shaved Brussels sprouts, spring mix, bacon, pomegranate drizzle, silvered almonds, shaved Parmesan and lemon vinaigrette dressing. Look at the height of this! This tastes great! I am also having a side of mushy peas. Mushy peas are a traditional British side dish of marrowfat peas that are cooked until soft and mashed into a mush. The dish is especially popular in Northern England and the Midlands, and often eaten with fish and chips or served as part of "pie and peas". Here's a quick overview of mushy peas: Ingredients** Traditionally made with dried marrowfat peas, but can be substituted with frozen peas or green split peas. I love this! It's nice and hot.,What a rare treat! This is hard to find anywhere! I'm also having a side of cold slaw. Coleslaw, or "slaw" in North America, is a side dish of shredded cabbage with a vinaigrette or mayo-based dressing. The word "coleslaw" comes from the Dutch term koolsla, meaning "cabbage salad". Recipes vary by region and can include additional ingredients like carrots, apples, raisins, or celery. Coleslaw originated in the Netherlands in the 18th century, but references to similar cabbage salads appear in ancient Greek and Roman medical texts. This is the best! Nice, thick dressing! For my last drink, I'm having a Godfather. The Godfather is a sweet and strong cocktail that blends Scotch whisky and amaretto liqueur. It's typically served in an old-fashioned glass over ice and can be garnished with an orange twist. The drink became popular in the 1970s disco scene and is named after the 1972 film starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. Some say bartender Joe Scialom created the Godfather to capture the movie's spirit. This is done just right! Good job! What a great meal here!

Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right downtown Manchester on Main Street is this gem where Lucky Taco once stood. It echoes the standard British pubs and taverns from across the pond with deep yellow lighting, woods, exposed brick walls and open floorplan kind of vibe. It was lively, energetic and welcoming! Service: Lara took excellent care of us and she was very helpful! I had no issues at all. Food/Drinks: On the table when we arrived was an Irn Bru which is a SUPER popular drink sold in Scotland, often beating Coca-Cola in sales. It tasted like orange licorice, but it was actually pretty decent. Our first appetizer was an order of Crisps which were like thick cut potato chips with some garlic parmesan seasonings which I actually enjoyed! There was plenty of flavor from each component involved. Next up was the 007 which was their spin on the martini James Bond orders! In it is Wheatley Vodka, Bombay Gin, and English Tea Infused Lillet Blanc. It tasted like a dirty martini and was pretty strong! Smooth as well. I enjoyed it. Next up was a dish called Toad In The Hole which is Yorkshire pudding stuffed with smoked sausage then topped with caramelized onions and gravy. I have never seen anything like this before, but it was so strange, but pretty decent! The Yorkshire pudding was a bit eggy and dense. The gravy was a must though, since the other components of the dish lacked the salt that I was seeking. Next up was the Cloth Of Gold Old which is an Old Fashion with a twist which contained Old Forester, fresh lemon and honey. I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure why the mention of Old Fashion was on the menu unless this is supposed to differ from an "Old Fashioned". No matter, moving on. Next up were the Potato Pom Pom which are fired potato balls served with a house-made cheddar cheese sauce. It sounds like a simple dish. The cheese was thick, majorly cheddar-y. I really, really liked these! They tasted like a fancy tater tot. The potato inside was so soft and tender and the exterior was so crispy. My last drink of the night was the Bramble On Rose which is their take on a 1980's classic created in Soho, London. In it is Bombay Gin, fresh lemon, rose water and blackberry syrup. This was my favorite drink of the night. It was fresh, had some herbal flavors and the rose flavor made itself known. I really, really liked this drink and would certainly order it again. Lastly, the quintessential Fish & Chips! It's Atlantic cod in a brown ale batter, served with musky peas, chips, tartar sauce and a curry sauce. The curry sauce was surprisingly fantastic. I was blown away and absolutely needed more of it. The mushy peas resembled guacamole, but I had no idea how I was supposed to eat them. Lol. Were they a sauce? I don't know, but they tasted exactly how you'd think they'd taste. The fish was also fantastic. It was light, yet greasy and crispy. Value: The most expensive thing on the menu is $22.00. This place is not expensive at all so you certainly won't break the bank. Portions are decent size too. In conclusion, I absolutely enjoyed myself here and highly recommend you (reading this) to check it out! British food is... unpredictable if I must throw a word on it. Lol. Like, I almost couldn't predict what some of this stuff would taste like because I had never had anything like it before! Now, I'm a believer!

With some good and some not-so good, we concluded that we aren't likely to return -- in spite of the really yummy tartar sauce (more on that in a moment). Penny Lane is a bit of an English Pub-style restaurant on two levels. We ate upstairs since the lower level was filled (steps, no elevator that we saw). Service was slow to nonexistent. It took us ten minutes to get recognized by a server who asked if we wanted something to drink and took another five minutes to get it. After we ordered we waited 25 minutes to get our food. We got no drink refills. Maybe service is better in the first floor? Ah, the food. Fish and Chips is essentially pub food, so that's what we got. The crust was light and buttery, quite good. The fish was utterly without any sort of flavor, as bland as could be imagined in your worst imagining. The tartar sauce was super good, but it just couldn't disguise the fact that the fish was tasteless. We also tried the poached egg and corned beef hash, which was ok though the hash was kind ... well, and of a hash, unremarkable at best. Conclusion: There was little that was appealing in our experience. Oh yeah, another ten minutes to get our bill... a long afternoon.

The bar seating was full, but we got right in upstairs at a cozy larger dining room. Service was excellent, professional, and did a great job. The menu was attractive. Lots of different drinks, classic pub food, your typical burgers, and fish and chips kinda stuff. But also a lot of other goodies too. I had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich with fries. It tasted good, the brioche roll was very fresh. I could have been seasoned more. I wasn't wow'd by it, but it was good. Fries were average, but tasted ok. I think the pricing was reasonable. I would definitely give Penny Lane Pub another try. I'm guessing though in the summer this place is tough to get into, just the vibe I got.
