Amazing doesn't do it justice. The mushroom wrap is exceptional. The taste, texture, flavor.. unreal! Add friendly, welcoming, attentive staff, chill vibes. You know when you walk into a room and there are nothing but good folks? Get yourself to the Cannon for that kind of feel. This review is only about their food. I have been following 'The Cannon' on social media since they opened a few months ago. I got a chance to try them today, I opted for a pick up. They offer vegetarian and vegan food and a few drink options. There is this cute seating area inside. They share their daily menu and Tuesday night special menu on social media (instagram). I tried their lentil nachos (something I have never seen anywhere else), jackfruit nuggets, sweet plantain and vegetable quesadillas. Both plantains and nuggets came with fries. The nachos and jackfruit nuggets were delicious. There is option to substitute cheese with vegan cheese, so both quesadilla and nachos came with vegan cheese. The quesadilla has eggplant inside and it kind of tasted bitter, so I had to remove those eggplant chunks so it was messy, still tasted delicious. Overall, it was delicious and this place is a good addition to the vegan/vegetarian restaurants in the New Haven area. I didn't get a chance to try their drinks, the pictures look super nice, so I will soon be back to dine in/try the drinks. read more

At first I thought "The Cannon" was just another sports bar. Then I heard they have an all vegan menu! And it's delicious! Now, it is a sports bar but it's very different from most of that type. The place is home to "the Gooners" which is the nickname of the Arsenal football club in London, UK. Sunday mornings is when the big screen tvs are dedicated to the sport known here as "soccer". Some night they have some cool live music, free! Sometimes jazz, sometimes a dj spinning vinyl. But they definitely had me at "vegan". read more

My gramdma was visiting from Georgia and was looking for a vegan or vegetarian restaurant to celebrate her birthday. I liked the food because it was delicious and my entire family liked the fish and chips. My granddaughter Maeve loved the fries alot. It was the best experience of her life (her word) it was so delicious. I will be back there to eat again ans have more fries. The cauliflower bites wete a hit. The best part was the Shirley Temple. This place was great. It's a hole in the wall and I had to search for a vegan restaurant in the area which was not easy because The Cannon didn't come up quickly in any of my searches. We came here to watch an Arsenal soccer match while we were visiting New Haven and it for real made me want to move to New Haven just so this could be my local pub. It was quite boisterous during the match because Arsenal fans gather here, but everyone was lovely, friendly and kind. There are lots of beers on tap. We ordered food --tofu breakfast bowl and a "premiere" -- and it was tasty and quite filling. The food menu is amazing for vegans, but if you're not there are still some familiar foods, like French fries. As for ambience, it's nothing special but has a bright window at the front if that's what you're looking for. Since the space is long and narrow, you can find a darker, cozy space in the back. I can't love on this place enough. It's the corner bar I've dreamt about for years and was never able to find in CT. i.e. think (insert corner bar with food name here), but with good food, and a nice staff! The food, ALL VEGETARIAN or VEGAN is spectacular. Seriously, the best vegetarian quesadillas I've ever had. But everything on the menu thus far is great! Plus, if you're sick of small bars that seem to have nothing but IPAs on draft, then the cannon is your place. They have the greatest lager on the planet on draft, Jack's Abby. Nothing more need to be said. The space is cozy, with a bunch of large TVs. The staff is friendly and attentive. The prices are more than reasonable. Parking on the street nearby is a breeze. AND they're dog friendly!!! (Make sure to say hello to Hendrix!) I freakin' LOVE this place. read more

Skyller, their head chef, is an absolute maestro in the kitchen -- taking you on a flavorful journey all around the world, whether it's curry noodles, a church plate, or lentil nachos. I'll start out by stating that I don't give 5-star reviews readily and I probably would've given The Cannon a 4.5 if I could. This is the kind of place New Haven doesn't have enough of. I visited The Cannon for the first time with my partner and another couple. It was a Friday night around 6:00. The place is small, but accommodating and comfortable none the less. The bartender was attentive and polite. The service was fast. My partner and I each ordered the fried fish and chips. The fish was hearts of palm based with convincing seafood seasonings. The batter was thick. . . and juicy. . . a little too juicy. It could've been that the oil was too cold, it wasn't fried long enough, or it wasn't drained properly. Unfortunate, because the taste was great, but it sat in the stomach pretty heavily. My steel-stomached partner wasn't as affected by the grease. The sauce that came with it was a great accompaniment. The steak fries that came with it were done well. I was hoping for mustard to dip them in which they didn't have, but to compensate they had ketchup and hot sauce. We spent over an hour at The Cannon and you could tell as the evening went that The Cannon is easily a neighborhood favorite. There is no set menu which is pretty great. Anytime you visit you can expect something different and delicious. We'll go back and would encourage anyone in the area to check out The Cannon. read more

I went there last night with my son. He recommended it so thought I would give it a go. He tried the door twice. Didn't open. I tried twice. Same. Realized it was locked. The hours sign showed they were open for another couple of hours and all lights were on. There was also no sign that said they were closed early. As we were walking away, a woman opened the door and started chastising us for "rattling the door" and then thought it was a good idea (and fun?) to educate us on how doors work. I'm glad that place is doing so well that they can piss customers off just for their own entertainment. As for myself and anyone I speak to, I'll be happy to share my experience. Went to The Cannon before normal business hours to watch an Arsenal match. Welcoming environment and great bar service & selection. They had a small bar menu for food and i ordered THE BEST ZUCCHINI FRIES I HAVE EVER HAD. Zucchini fries are easy to mess up but these did not disappoint! I am so happy this place exists! They have a rotating vegetarian menu and everything I ordered is excellent. The reuben and "fish" sandwich were incredible. The servers are also the owners and they are great and attentive people. There is a nice crowd and they play good music. There is a wide array of beers and liquors to choose from. I wish they had a specialty cocktail menu, but they are newer so that may come in the future. read more

Been meaning to eat here for a minute and finally made it over. Interior is laid back and makes you feel like you can sit and chill for a while. Enjoyed a pint and a gooey grilled cheese. Best part were the hand-cut fries seasoned with Old Bay - they made me nostalgic for my Baltimore days. Was too full for the cardamom cake but I guess that just means a trip back - soon! Be careful where you park - there are a couple of spots in front of the restaurant but most of the street is zone parking. Plenty of spots on Chapel before you get to Dwight. read more
