We loved this place! I got the beer battered "fish" sandwich and my partner got the triple B and both were delicious!! Would definitely order it again!! Service was really great, the guy working there was super nice. Overall, it was a great place to dine!

This review is only about their food. I have been following 'The Cannon' on social media since they opened a few months ago. I got a chance to try them today, I opted for a pick up. They offer vegetarian and vegan food and a few drink options. There is this cute seating area inside. They share their daily menu and Tuesday night special menu on social media (instagram). I tried their lentil nachos (something I have never seen anywhere else), jackfruit nuggets, sweet plantain and vegetable quesadillas. Both plantains and nuggets came with fries. The nachos and jackfruit nuggets were delicious. There is option to substitute cheese with vegan cheese, so both quesadilla and nachos came with vegan cheese. The quesadilla has eggplant inside and it kind of tasted bitter, so I had to remove those eggplant chunks so it was messy, still tasted delicious. Overall, it was delicious and this place is a good addition to the vegan/vegetarian restaurants in the New Haven area. I didn't get a chance to try their drinks, the pictures look super nice, so I will soon be back to dine in/try the drinks.

Nothing more to say about this place other than "good vibes". The owner/bartender and the chef are both just so pleasant. The food is so good, that my husband (HUGE Arsenal fan, not so much a plant eater, loves it!). Honestly, The cannon was a selling point when trying to convince my husband to move to New Haven. During games, the place is packed! On non-game days, there is always something going on, music or otherwise. Highly recommend

I'm back! The restaurant is located on 829 Main St. in Manchester, CT. They offer an authentic…read moreBritish gastropub experience with traditional food like Fish & Chips, Scotch Eggs, and Shepherd's Pie, alongside cocktails and ales, in a setting that often features live music. It's known for its unique atmosphere, popular dishes, and is a good spot for groups, with happy hour specials available. The pub operates on a first-come, first-served basis and is a popular new addition to the local scene.  For my first drink, I'm having the Bramble on Rose. This is made with Bombay Gin, fresh lemon, rise water and blackberry syrup. It's their take on a 1980's classic crested in SoHo London. For info on its history, go to: https://www.diffordsguide.com/encyclopedia/1655/cocktails/bramble-cocktail-its-inception-told-by-its-creator. It's served in a 16oz glass so it gets a bit diluted. Still, I like the taste. I am starting with their Soup of the Day which is the cream of chicken/mushroom. This is hot and delicious! That's a big spoon. I'm also having a side Caesar Salad (light on the croutons). This is just right! It tastes great! For my entree, I'm having the Mandu's Masala made with sautéed chicken, tomato, mild or spicy (spicy, as hot as possible) curry sauce in a yogurt cream sauce served with Basmati rice and grilled naan bread. This is considers the UL's national dish! This is nice and spicy! That's a lot of food! I loved the cute, little pieces of naan. The sauce is thick! I love it! For my next drink, I'm having the House Cup. This is a traditional British cocktail well known for its herbaceous and referring taste. It is made with Pimm's No. 1 Liqueur, fresh lemon, mint and seasonal fruit. This is well garnished and tastes great! For dessert, we are trying the Panna cotta. Panna cotta ('cooked cream') is an Italian dessert made with sweetened cream thickened with gelatin and moulded. It may be flavoured with coffee, vanilla, or other flavours. Wow! This is great! What a great meal here!

Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right downtown Manchester on Main Street is this gem where Lucky Taco once stood. It echoes the standard British pubs and taverns from across the pond with deep yellow lighting, woods, exposed brick walls and open floorplan kind of vibe. It was lively, energetic and welcoming! Service: Lara took excellent care of us and she was very helpful! I had no issues at all. Food/Drinks: On the table when we arrived was an Irn Bru which is a SUPER popular drink sold in Scotland, often beating Coca-Cola in sales. It tasted like orange licorice, but it was actually pretty decent. Our first appetizer was an order of Crisps which were like thick cut potato chips with some garlic parmesan seasonings which I actually enjoyed! There was plenty of flavor from each component involved. Next up was the 007 which was their spin on the martini James Bond orders! In it is Wheatley Vodka, Bombay Gin, and English Tea Infused Lillet Blanc. It tasted like a dirty martini and was pretty strong! Smooth as well. I enjoyed it. Next up was a dish called Toad In The Hole which is Yorkshire pudding stuffed with smoked sausage then topped with caramelized onions and gravy. I have never seen anything like this before, but it was so strange, but pretty decent! The Yorkshire pudding was a bit eggy and dense. The gravy was a must though, since the other components of the dish lacked the salt that I was seeking. Next up was the Cloth Of Gold Old which is an Old Fashion with a twist which contained Old Forester, fresh lemon and honey. I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure why the mention of Old Fashion was on the menu unless this is supposed to differ from an "Old Fashioned". No matter, moving on. Next up were the Potato Pom Pom which are fired potato balls served with a house-made cheddar cheese sauce. It sounds like a simple dish. The cheese was thick, majorly cheddar-y. I really, really liked these! They tasted like a fancy tater tot. The potato inside was so soft and tender and the exterior was so crispy. My last drink of the night was the Bramble On Rose which is their take on a 1980's classic created in Soho, London. In it is Bombay Gin, fresh lemon, rose water and blackberry syrup. This was my favorite drink of the night. It was fresh, had some herbal flavors and the rose flavor made itself known. I really, really liked this drink and would certainly order it again. Lastly, the quintessential Fish & Chips! It's Atlantic cod in a brown ale batter, served with musky peas, chips, tartar sauce and a curry sauce. The curry sauce was surprisingly fantastic. I was blown away and absolutely needed more of it. The mushy peas resembled guacamole, but I had no idea how I was supposed to eat them. Lol. Were they a sauce? I don't know, but they tasted exactly how you'd think they'd taste. The fish was also fantastic. It was light, yet greasy and crispy. Value: The most expensive thing on the menu is $22.00. This place is not expensive at all so you certainly won't break the bank. Portions are decent size too. In conclusion, I absolutely enjoyed myself here and highly recommend you (reading this) to check it out! British food is... unpredictable if I must throw a word on it. Lol. Like, I almost couldn't predict what some of this stuff would taste like because I had never had anything like it before! Now, I'm a believer!

The shepherd's pie was another standout, cozy, flavorful, and wonderfully filling. And do not skip the bread pudding -- it was absolutely amazing and the perfect sweet finish to the meal. The only negative was our booth: right in front of the door, so every time it opened (and it was often), we got blasted with cold air. Next time we'll sit further in or upstairs. If you're running around Old Saybrook and need a quick, hearty meal, this is the place to be.

With some good and some not-so good, we concluded that we aren't likely to return -- in spite of the really yummy tartar sauce (more on that in a moment). Penny Lane is a bit of an English Pub-style restaurant on two levels. We ate upstairs since the lower level was filled (steps, no elevator that we saw). Service was slow to nonexistent. It took us ten minutes to get recognized by a server who asked if we wanted something to drink and took another five minutes to get it. After we ordered we waited 25 minutes to get our food. We got no drink refills. Maybe service is better in the first floor? Ah, the food. Fish and Chips is essentially pub food, so that's what we got. The crust was light and buttery, quite good. The fish was utterly without any sort of flavor, as bland as could be imagined in your worst imagining. The tartar sauce was super good, but it just couldn't disguise the fact that the fish was tasteless. We also tried the poached egg and corned beef hash, which was ok though the hash was kind ... well, and of a hash, unremarkable at best. Conclusion: There was little that was appealing in our experience. Oh yeah, another ten minutes to get our bill... a long afternoon.
