We spent the weekend in New Haven area primarily to sample the pizza. After 2 days of pizza we just wanted to have a good Sunday breakfast as we left to head home. This place is clearly a local favorite as the small parking lot was full, but we lucked out as someone was pulling out as we arrived. The service was top notch! We were greeted by a friendly young woman who seated us right away in a 2 person booth. The place is your classic stainless steel exterior and the inside was packed with happy patrons. The people in the booth next to us said they rarely dine out but they frequent Georgie's for their food. We were served by 3 different young women who were super friendly and professional. Before we got our food I was thinking I would come back for the service alone. Now the food. I ordered Georgie's omelette with home fries. 5/5. Excellent omelette and though the home fries were just potatoes they were cooked with some crunchy bits that simply elevated them. Laura got the eggs Benedict and she loved it. 5/5. We also ordered the buckwheat pancakes with blueberries and bananas. These were the best pancakes I've ever eaten 5/5! On top of it they serve organic food and locally sourced ingredients. The diversity of their staff was another added feature. This place is special!!! Laura and I agreed that it was the best meal we ate during our New Haven weekend. We came in for a quick lunch. Service was speedy and friendly. Our meals came out well prepared-- the French toast and bacon were especially delicious! Our one piece of feedback would be that the burger was expensive ($20) for a pretty basic burger. We would have been happy paying $16 for it. read more

This place was excellent! Not at all what I was expecting. I was just out visiting customers and needed to stop somewhere to kill some time and grab a bite. Customers don't want to see you on lunch break. I got a tomato bisque soup, which was absolutely awesome. One of the best I've had in a long time. Then I got a Greek salad with salmon on it and that was absolutely delicious too. It had the grape leaves which normally honestly I don't like in the salad and I really enjoyed them. Visiting CT once again we always pass by this diner. Sometimes opened sometimes not. Happened to be open as we were passing so we said let's pop in. As we entered was greeted and showed to our seats. Hot chocolate made with milk and fresh whipped cream, all natural foods, lots of gluten free offerings and just delicious food is what they do. I literally drove 40 minutes when I found out this restaurant had VEGAN French toast. Not many places have exciting vegan options. French toast? Forget about it. As a Los Angeles native, I am so used to a city having vegan options. I didn't know what to expect. When I tried the French toast, it was THE ABSOLUTE BEST FRENCH TOAST I've ever had. First time visiting Georgie's. It was a Sunday morning. The hostess and waitress were kind and welcoming. They are efficient in cleaning tables and getting folks in. For drinks we had the fresh orange juice and coffees. We ordered buckwheat pancakes, hand cut fries, Georgie's omelette with home fries, and a veggie omelette with fresh fruit. The juice was delicious, and the coffee was good. Omelettes were great as well. The buckwheat pancakes were also good, tad more greasy than I think necessary but it's nice that there is a vegan pancake option. Similarly with the fries, you bit into it and just tasted oil, as of the oil was not hot or they were sitting in the oil too long, the fruit was not fresh with some of the fruit brown in appearance. There aren't many places with vegan options near WH/Orange/Milford, probably this is the only place with a big vegan menu and hence I decided to do a take out order while I was in the area. My family and I ordered a bunch of items from here and sadly everything was average at the best. The vegan wrap I got had mostly boiled potatoes. Rest or the items were greasy. They said we were crazy traveling nearly 2hrs from home to West Haven/New Haven CT but the joke is on them-they are the ones missing out on perfection! My foodie buddy and I search for adventures and culinary delights and Georgie's was her find! What a find! Our love of Drive-ins, Diners, and Dives brought us here (diner). So glad it did! The pastrami sandwich on homemade brioche bun was tender, not fatty, melt in your mouth perfection. Super flavorful! The goat cheese, sausage, spinach omelet (Tuscan) was rich, creamy, deliciously spiced but the highlight was the creamy whipped goat cheese within. Worthy of a culinary eye roll. My favorite dish here. Home fries are typically hey they are cooked potato chunks but here the fresh potato flavor comes through and the chef knows exactly how to serve them (not mushy not too Al dente). Excellent! The Carmel apple French toast on homemade bread truly melted into your mouth. The softness of the bread along with the crisp tart apple pieces and the sweetness of the fresh whip cream and Carmel sauce was a superb bite. Seriously even the coffee here was excellent and the fact that they have nondairy creamers! This lactose intolerant foodie thanks you! Georgie's Diner was a total surprise to me and will definitely be a spot on my regular go to list!! First the decor and set up of the diner is totally retro and so very cool. It is on the small side so get there early before it fills up. I went straight at 5 and had non problem getting a table. But very shortly after the tables started filling up rapidly. The menu is expansive and best of all they have a section for vegan dishes!! And the selection of foods is not your run of the mill vegan foods. For example I had the tempeh Reuben which was DELICIOUS and crave worthy! My daughter had the chicken Caesar wrap and was also craving nutella pancakes, so we ordered both and she was not disappointed with either! The fries are RIDICULOUSLY amazing. Totally hand cut and fried to perfection. The service here is friendly and very attentive. I am definitely going to be a repeat patron at Georgie's Diner! read more

Nice retro diner look, like something from The Jetsons. Fair sized lot, but only a few cars in it, at a time (9:15AM) when you would expect it to be busy. Inside, only one other couple in a booth. The diner, circa 1956, definitely has a retro, classic diner look and feel. Everything except mini juke boxes in each booth. Brian, our server, was great. Very attentive. Menu has some interesting choices, and they make their own corned beef hash. I order CBH with 2 eggs over, grits, and rye. My best friend, Locomotive Breath, formerly known as Pots & Pans, just has coffee. The food was phenomenal, spectacular, every good adjective that one of my Yelp friends uses to describe her meals. Seriously, the grits were right up their with the best I've ever had, as was the CBH. The food was 5-star worthy. Why the overall rating of 4 stars? Cost. Prices, in my opinion, were exorbitant. Unfortunately, both the food and the service were just not up to par. The service we received today was rather mediocre. They advertise that they use quality fresh organic ingredients. Our server was very nice and it's nice that they asked about food allergies instead of having people telling them. It's a smaller space and gets packed for breakfast/brunch time. The parking lot is small, but there's a stop & shop lot across the street. They also have some outdoor seating too. I think that most times I have ordered their French toast when I go here. It's always a treat when I visit the area because it actually feels like a diner and their french toast (Maya's breakfast) is delicious! We love Georgie's. Cute little diner in West Haven that gives you a true old Diner experience with a inclusive and modern menu. The vegan and gluten free offerings, in addition to the regular menu, are extensive. It's easy to sit down as a mixed group of nerds and have them all met. Whenever we have ordered the wait staff always confirms if it is an allergy to take even more care in keeping their patrons safe. As for the food, everything is made fresh. You can even see with the chicken fingers that they are literally a sliced chicken breast made into chicken fingers. I look forward to the vegan breakfast options (I'm very lactose intolerant), ESPECIALLY the cashew cream. I can, and will, try to spread that sweet dairy free goodness on anything I can while there. The dessert menu has seemed to be hit or miss. I've had some incredible dishes that I hope to see when I go back. I've also had some disappointment ones like the vegan pies I got last visit. This is not a greasy spoon, far from it! The food is fresh delicious and homemade quality. Tuscan omelette w/ goat cheese spot on, could have eaten this dish all day long. If only this restaurant were open later, every day, and in New York City, I would eat here every weekend and not care about the result. Situated right by the train tracks, this vintage diner has the makings of doing it right. The big portions, a homemade Hollandaise sauce for the Eggs Benedict, an exquisite milkshake, I loved all of it, save for the tart orange juice and the high prices. Very cute, retro style diner with a wonderful vegan offering on the menu. We were a little disappointed by where they ended up seating us -- a small two-top in the middle of a huge party of pre-teens that spanned the tables around us. They seemed sweet enough but it was difficult to really even hold a conversation. Our waitress was a bit flustered (probably by the large party) but still polite. We ordered the vegan pancakes and the sweet potato hash, both of which were delicious. I was disappointed, however, that at such a vegan friendly place I had to ask for oat milk twice. My coffee initially came with a side of cream from the girl running drinks. I confirmed if it was oat milk, she said no and said she would be right back with it. She was quick and I trusted she grabbed the right thing. Made my coffee and started drinking only to realize I was drinking cows milk... something I haven't done in a long time. I flagged our waitress down who corrected the issue and assured me she personally poured the oat milk. Ambience: 3/5. Food: 5/5. Always loved Georgie's for as long as the West Haven location has been a diner. Love their menu but one too many times the salt content in almost every single dish is intolerable. If this message isn't replied to let us know they can fix, unfortunately I wont be returning after trying different menu items and just don't experience this level of sodium at any other establishment in the rare occasions we dine out. Fabulous experience at a diner we met family at halfway... we had the buttermilk pancakes with the creamy butter and real maple syrup. They were homemade and tasted it too. Really delicious some of the best pancakes I ever had. I ordered the HOMEMADE yogurt parfait. Fruit was fresh. LOCAL honey was OUTSTANDING. and I dislike honey but this was sensational. The yogurt was truly creamy and had the perfect consistency. Greek yogurt YUM. Berries were delish too. Eggs and home fries all cooked to perfection and homemade.
