I was at seafood city supermarket and needed to pick up a quick lunch for the next day. There are a couple of items I wanted to try but decided on their one item combo. You can also get just a rice bowl but I wanted to try their noodles too. My one item combo came with a big scoop of rice, stir-fry noodles, beef and broccoli, and something like a red bean sesame ball. I did enjoy everything. The noodles and the beef and broccoli were very flavorful. The food tasted fresh like someone was just making me dinner at home. The whole combo was less than $11. They also have big bun I want to try. I think the buns are their top seller cause I saw everyone buying them. They sell it warm or frozen. Another items I want to come back for are for their desserts. They have halo-halo and taho. I love taho so I'm very excited to try that. The service was great. The parking is plentiful. We wanted Halo Halo today while out in the Pomona area. Driving back on the 10 freeway, we stopped by the Jolibee across from Ikea on Barranca in West covina. The store employee informed is that they no longer serve Halo Halo. So sad!! But we had our hearts set on Halo Halo so we decided ton drive a few more miles to the Chowking on Amar for them!!!! It was well worth the drive!!! Their Halo Halo is the best in town!!! What a refreshing treat while we have this horrible heat wave in town today!! Bundle feast for dinner... Ordered via the app. It was quick and easy to do. We got the chicken and noodle bundle feast. We also ordered the bochi balls (deep fried balls coated in sesame seeds), and halo-halo. Everything was very good. The only glitch was how long I had to wait for the order. Even though i Ordered ahead via the app, I waited another 20 minutes in the store for my food once I checked in at the counter. I didn't mind waiting if that meant my food was made fresh. The food is consistently tasty. The lines are always long but move quickly. And the best part of Chowking is their employees - the staff is always sweet, patient and accommodating. But there may be some times that you have to be on top of things because if not, they'll forget to queue your order and you'll end up waiting a much longer time than expected. It's important to remember though that these people are human, prone to errors and are doing their best. They're not out to inconvenience you. They just make mistakes every now and then - just like we all do. One thing I am sure of - these wonderful Filipinos want nothing more than to please you, their customer. Just a suggestion to the staff: please try to not speak in shorthand to the customer because mistakes are made that way. When you say "you want the salt and pepper?" what do you mean, salt and pepper chicken or salt and pepper pork? Let's elevate Filipino-American customer communication and not be afraid to use longhand because that provides more clarity and better customer retention in the long run. Try the frozen siomai - they are great for quick dinners when you don't know what to make. Our family is partial to the lariat chicken which tastes like heaven. Not too much breading but it is sinfully crispy, a little greasy but so darn flavorful. My boys always pat their stomachs in satisfaction after a few drumsticks. Chowking never fails to satisfy. Try anything on the menu because I'm sure you'll love whatever you get. read more

Travelled 40 miles to have a to go breakfast. Not so long a line this Saturday morning . Got in , am the first in line!!! I looked around and people were already seated and only 1 table left so I just decided I'll have it to go. Order taker Concepcion was very respectful and even with mask on I can see her smile with the tone of her voice and the smiley eyes. I 'twas pas 8 am and I had paid for my take out order and waiting for it to be ready when I had an emergency and had to go to ER. I cannot wait for my orders and told the server, I'm sorry but I had to go and told her I will come back. Sadly, I became available at 6:30 pm A friend of mine was gonna order in the restaurant and I told her to pick up mine if my order is still ok for pick up, she will do so. I talked to their manager Ces and she said she will make a new order for me and toss the old one. I am so happy and proud of how she handled the situation. Today is National Bao Day and Chow King has a promo. Buy 6, Get 6 FREE so I ordered in advance and picked up at 5pm. When I went there 10 mins before 5pm, I went to the pick up area and lasted one of the employees for my order. It happened that the employee that I spoke with was one of the managers and he helped me right away. He made sure that all my orders (2 promo orders with additional other orders) were complete since I put them in advance. Excellent job for that male manager! Also, I would like to mention the staff who were there. People started to come and pick up their orders and they were able to accommodate everybody. I went to the one in Amar and it was very clean and well-lighted. Very professional employees. read more

The two things I come here for are the lumpiang Shanghai ("lumpia") and the sago at gulaman (which they refer to as the "black jelly" drink). I like the lumpia here because every time I've ordered it, it's freshly cooked, with the perfect inside temperature. If you order lumpia, make sure you ask for at least three packets of lumpia sauce for every six-piece order. The sauce is a must-have for lumpia. Often, they don't include the sauce or are very stingy with it. As for the black jelly drink, it's a standard sago at gulaman. Usually, you have to go to a sit-down Filipino restaurant to have this drink (or, alternatively, spend one to two hours preparing a batch at home). But, at Chowking, you can order gulaman at sago, in a fast food setting, and have it in five to 10 minutes. I've tried other items here and to be honest, nothing really stands out to me except for the lumpia, black jelly drink, and the occasional halo-halo. This is also one of the better places for halo-halo. (Halo-halo is a shaved-ice dessert, mixed with fruits, beans, tapioca pearls, ube, and ube ice cream.) read more

The food itself was fresh, hot, and really flavorful. We tried the orange chicken, Kung Pao chicken, mushroom chicken, and the string bean chicken and all were delicious. Everything tasted well-prepared and satisfying. The service was good, and it made ordering easy since the staff spoke both Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. We visited during lunchtime, and there was a line, which shows how popular the place is. Despite that, the wait was reasonable. They also have some seating available, which is convenient if you want to eat right there. Overall, this spot definitely lived up to the recommendation from our family friends. Great value, tasty food, and generous portions; I'll definitely be coming back.

There's plenty to walk around in the plaza (desserts, pastries, açaí bowls) while you're waiting and even a fountain. Once seated everything moves relatively fast. Food is stellar and of value (6 XLB for $8!), portion sizes are good, and everything is piping hot! The soup dumplings have soo much soup IMO beating out Mama Lu's which is what I would consider to be their nearest competitor. The spicy shrimp wontons are also good, but I think the flavors don't quite hit as well - big pieces of shrimp are enclosed though! The Peppered Beef Udon was great the beef pieces were tender and juicy and great textured noodles. Pro tip: If you are a first timer/came from far and waited a while don't let them seat you at the bar the experience is not as nice by far (I saw someone say it's like paying to stare at a wall - I concur) Being seated at a booth or table will allow you the full experience but I do understand there's only a limited amount of room in the bustling place.
