Lunch buffet to go
Xiao Y.

If you want legit Chinese food at an incredible value, come eat here! I did the lunch buffet option to go -- $12.99. The crab Rangoon and fried chicken wings are excellent!

When the food is being prepared by a family and served by them you the quality is going to be top notch..that is exactly what you get at Chow Bar. The food is outstanding and the portions are very generous. Definitely a must visit and we plan to go back there soon.

Food was pretty good even though I don't think we got that we ordered, lol. Somehow I think the language barrier had something to do with it but it worked out in the end. My son ordered salt and pepper pork ribs and I believe he got sweet and sour ribs. I ordered Szechuan shrimp and I believe I got salt and pepper shrimp. My husband got Mongolian lamb and I think he said it was lamb. lol. Like I said it was all still pretty good. We also ordered the combination appetizer which was just ok and the crab rangoon was probably the best item on it. We will definitely be back even though there was confusion.

The menu is rather lengthy and hard to read if you don't already have in mind what you want. There's literally so many options. The interior could use some modernization. But, it's a nice place for the most part. In my opinion, they have the best crab Rangoon I've ever had the pleasure of consuming. Absolutely creamy and delicious ! The costing wasn't too hard or stale. Perfection. I also had the chicken stir fry udon. It was good, but I'm not sure if I would order the same thing in the future. I wish I would have ordered a bubble tea, I think I missed out there. Definitely go try the crab rangoon !

authentic Chinese food. settings outdated little. But the two dishes we ordered are actually very good. Price seems reasonable too. Recommend

This place is a hidden gem if you're a fan of good Chinese food. Located just outside the Sample Gates at Indiana University, it's easy to find and there is a private parking lot behind the restaurant. Yes it's hard to find parking in dwtn Bloomington for free. The food was real good and came out piping out, fresh and delicious. Oh and fast too. Prices are super reasonable compared to others in the area for quality food. The only negative is the ambiance. There is little decoration and a not well laid out floor plan but that's okay if you're going there for the food. Enter through the back and you'll pass the bathrooms, kitchen, supplies. We didn't get the buffet which at most restaurants, offer a different selection and quality of food. Big portions, low prices, great food!

We had heard good things about Chow Bar and ordered takeout for my birthday and Lunar New Year celebration (not exactly, but close enough). Each of us ordered two things and we received a bounty of culinary riches. The food was exceptional, fresh, perfectly spiced. So good!

This is not a Korean style sweet & sour pork

Judy's Kitchen - Vegetable lo mein, Thai milk tea w/ boba

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Bloomington and even better, has the seal of approval…read morefrom my Chinese mom! Judy's Kitchen is a Taiwanese style kitchen meaning they serve roasted meats like pork (Char Siu) and duck. They also have some Taiwanese staples like their popcorn chicken and beef noodle soup. They also have bubble tea made from real ingredients like taro or red bean as often times, boba places use powder to make the tea base. Before we moved from Bloomington entirely, my fiancé and I wanted to eat here one last time. He got his favorite, the hot pepper chicken, and I got the beer noodle soup for the first time. Both dishes didn't fail us. The hot pepper chicken is stir fried in a lot of chiles but actually isn't as hot as you think. It has a slow build and is tolerable for something with an average spice tolerance like me! The beef noodle soup was heavenly. It's similar to pho but is sweeter and more gingery. You need to try it to understand! I'll miss Judy's so much and hope it's still around when I visit Bloomington.

The lo mein was very…read moretasty, the noodles were tender, there were lots of vegetables, and the sauce wasn't too oily. The serving size was perfect for dinner. When I first saw the Thai milk tea, I thought it looked pale compared to the distinct orange colour most Thai tea has, and I worried it would be weak, but it was actually a nice milk tea with a subtle Thai-style spice, and the boba were supremely good. The guy who takes orders comes off as very unfriendly. I am used to no-nonsense Cantonese service and I don't think that's what this is; it feels like he doesn't want you to order. The first time I tried to order here I kind of got intimidated out of it because he told me it would be a 20 minute wait for food as I was just opening my mouth to order and the way it was delivered, I thought that was his way of telling me to go away. There was no 20-minute wait this time (I guess they were less busy) but it was the same vibe. I do intend to eat here again and look forward to it, I'm just not setting high expectations for the service.
