This was not made clear anywhere online that I saw, so it was lucky we had cash on us. The interior is pretty simple with some seating. The parking lot is not the greatest. There are several small businesses located in the same strip and less than 10 parking spots. The food was good. I will say that it is very much not Americanized Chinese. Which is good, however, the spice levels were far beyond what is typical for the dishes I normally get. It was so good but so, so spicy. The chili chicken had me SWEATING. First time visit to Lucky Express. Oh this is the real deal!!! I had Gen Tso Chicken and egg rolls. Possibly the best Gen Tso I've ever had. So good. Can't wait to go back. Hands down, my all time favorite fast food Chinese restaurants in town. I asked if they had sweet and sour pork and they told me no, but they have other pork options. I got home and took my food out and they made me sweet and sour pork!!!! All this food was only $26, and it's absolutely amazing. My favorite Chinese food spot in town! The owner is always super friendly and sweet, and the food tastes home-cooked and fresh every single time. Prices are somewhat on the higher side but 100% worth it since the quality is always so high, and the portions are great. There is also plenty to choose from their menu. It's one of those true hidden gems -- small, unassuming, but consistently excellent. Everything feels made with care, and you can really taste the difference. Excellent Chinese take-out. There's some seating as well. The sauces are exactly like I want them, spicy or not-so-spicy, depending on the dish. Not super oily, and the oil is fresh, barely noticeable. Vegetables are crisp, not overcooked. I don't live close by, but it's worth the trip when I want Chinese food. I ordered delivery from here and at first I thought it was a bit pricy, but once I saw the huge portion sizes it totally made sense. The food itself was amazing. The green beans tasted so fresh and still had a bit of crunch too them, and were so flavorful with the garlic. The tofu was also really great. The sauce was the perfect level of salty, sweet, and umami, and the portion was huge, I was able to eat it for dinner again the next day after frying it up with some rice. This place used to be a frequent haunt when I lived in Bloomington. Always teeming with students and a very stern lady used to run it 13 years ago, not anymore though. On our way back from Spring Mill Park, we decided to keep our hunger at bay till we reached Lucky Express. Things seemed almost the same and food definitely good as before. We were hungry and nostalgic and wanted our kids to experience the food we had raved about, so we ordered too much ! Pork Dumplings that my son absolutely loved and wouldnt share. Veggie lo mein that was quite good and shared amongst us. Chilli chicken and Kung pao chicken - each bite flavorful and packs a punch! We got a lot of leftovers to enjoy later and wish we had more. My fiancee and I ordered from here, I got honey chicken, he got satay chicken and pork dumplings...AMAZING FOOD!!! Top notch flavor all around the board!!! The lady that runs the front of the house is ALWAYS so kind and generous, but today she went above and beyond!!! She included free spring rolls into our order! I heard good things about this restaurant and I was really craving Chinese food so I called to order. The lady who picked up the phone was really nice and made sure to remind me it was cash only. Thanks! I ordered the salt and pepper fish fillet and it's good! Crispy on the outside, soft and fresh on the inside. I like how the salt and pepper seasoning is not too overwhelming, but I do wish I had a side of hot chili oil with it. It would be even better with more spice! And the rice is HUUUUUGE. Really enjoying my newest way of exploring the real deal Szechuan style food! Here's what I do: Order on DoorDash whatever I want (cilantro fish, egg fried rice, veggie lo mein, egg rolls, and salt & pepper intestines are some of our frequent go tos), and then I just select a random higher priced one and make a note to Mei, the woman that picks up when you call or takes your order when you go in. On that order I tell her I'd love to try something new and could she please replace this dish with one of her favorites. She gives us stuff that's not on the DoorDash menu (but likely is on the huge menu on the wall when you go in), that's true Chinese food that we probably wouldn't have even thought to try had she not suggested it. We've done this twice and loved her selections both times. Now I'm making it part of our weekly delivery routine. I love that they pay special attention to food allergies. She knows that I'm allergic to shellfish (I remind each time anyway since I carry an epipen) and she always takes care to give safe foods the whole family can enjoy. I love that their spicy food absolutely brings the heat but that they offer things at every spice level. They truly love what they do and you can taste it. You'll love what they do too! read more

Nice little Chinese restaurant. It's mostly a take out place. They have some tables inside. Parking in the back and a few spaces in the front. HUGE menu! Most entrees are about $10-12. It was our first time so we ordered a few different dishes. The woman behind the counter was very friendly and helpful with our questions. All dishes we ordered were great! Portions were very generous and very well seasoned. I liked how they lined the takeout containers with aluminum foil so the hot food doesn't burn through the container. I wish we had a place like this in Indianapolis - this would easily be in the top 2 or 3 in Indianapolis. Only better spots are in Chicago...this spot is that good. I'm not a big Chinese food eater. It has very little, if anything, to do with my preferences: I just didn't grow up on it. South Indian households aren't particularly known for their fondness of Chinese food, and our understanding of it goes as far as Indo-Chinese cuisine, IF that (Manchurian and Hakka Noodles, anyone)? This might be why, despite an attractive menu that had me reminiscing on my father and my's love for PF Chang's completely non-authentic Mapo Tofu, I didn't make it to this hole-in-the-wall gem until I reached my senior year with a mission: to try every restaurant in Bloomington. With a trusty companion (and here less-than-adventurous tastebuds) keeping me company, off we went. I ordered something I knew I'd like: Fried Tofu with Broccoli. I can't give you too many details, simply because it was so long ago that I don't really remember what sauce this was even in. I just remember thinking, "DANG, that's good! Like, really good." The meal came with such a large mound of rice that I took it home and ate it for the next week, in different iterations. It was then that I realized that all Asian cuisine and its purveyors have something in common: they love to feed people, often in massive quantities. Often times, this food looks simpler than it actually is but behind that mask of simplicity lies a complexity that's difficult to unravel. Revisited Lucky Express on a whim last Sunday. Wasn't sure they would be open due to Spring break, but they were, much to my delight. Great lunch specials and great food! I have only been once but plan to make this my go-to Chinese takeout. I had heard good things and adore szechuan cuisine, so I made sure to get some cash out the other day to give it a shot. I ordered the szechuan tofu lunch special and it was delicious. Portions we're plentiful and the price was unbeatable. I didn't notice the full menu on the wall until after I had ordered, but next time I definitely plan to order off of it because the options look more authentic. I definitely want to try their stir fry tripe and mapo tofu. One thing that I noticed was that the rice is especially good. It was just white rice but you could tell it was fresh and had the perfect moisture content. I'm so used to getting old/dried out rice from Chinese takeout joints so this was a welcome surprise.
