First time trying Thai food and Siam House did not disappoint. Friday night before the opening IU football game and we expected to have to wait but fortunately we had good timing and got right in to Siam House. My daughter is a very picky eater but we were all very impressed. The food was delicious. The portions were more than generous and the atmosphere was palpable. I was a little overwhelmed by the size of the menu but the waitress was helpful and made great suggestions. I had the tiger garlic and pepper. My wife had pad Thai and my daughter has noodles but ate several bites of my beef. We will be going back the next chance we get. Delicious! read more

Service I ordered an appetizer, it came out with my meal, the fresh salad rolls - the paper was so thin and rough that they fell apart, i got them with chicken - only 2 of the 4 had chicken, should give more peanut sauce instead of that little tiny deriving, I ordered papaya salad it was ok, I asked for medium spicy it was maybe mild at best, the Thai iced coffee was good read more

Excellent Thai restaurant with high marks for food, service, and atmosphere. I've tried the Thai fish cakes, sweet and sour saute, pad bus sa ra com, mango sticky rice, and Thai iced tea and coffee. The savoury dishes were all super flavourful, cooked well, and generously portioned. Maybe this has something to do with the dishes I got, but I think the flavours here are generally more intense than the other Thai restaurants I've tried in Bloomington, and their spice levels might be a little higher. I've been somewhat underwhelmed by level 3 (out of 5) at other places, so I tried level 4 the first time I ordered here, and it was a little too hot, so I went back to level 3 the next time, and it was just right. The Thai tea and coffee were both very good, especially the coffee. It almost tasted chocolatey. The service is consistently on top of it. I was there on Valentine's Day, and they were slammed but had enough staff on the floor for it; the food was quick as usual and everyone was still very friendly. I also love the atmosphere here. The building is one of the converted houses on 4th St, and there are different dining rooms, some with lots of windows, all filled with interesting decor, and there's also a very nice patio during the warmer seasons. The only problem here is, unless there's a back entrance I don't know about, I don't think the building is wheelchair accessible; you have to go up a few stairs to get to the main entrance. read more

Siam House is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Bloomington. Every dish I've ever had is flavorful and made just right every time, and the staff that work there are impeccable. They quickly get you seated, take your order, and get your food. The building/house they are in works great for smaller or larger parties, and their selection of food is perfect. Siam House is a Bloomington staple that I have been to several times. I generally get the basil fried rice, but decided to switch it up and get the volcano chicken this time around. The chicken was juicy, spicy, and paired perfectly with the rice. Siam House is arguably the best Thai spot in Bloomington and I would definitely recommend it to anyone in town. All were great, fresh ingredients, served in concert, and quickly, too. This was a family meal, and all were delighted, including the children with chicken fingers and fries. We're trying to expand their horizons, but picky eaters are tough. The appetizers were especially good, and each has their own different sauce. My order was well-spiced, and there was enough taken home for a second delicious meal. This is perhaps the best and most consistent Thai food in Bloomington. I'm normally in and out of Bloomington for work, and on one particular trip, I decided to try something a little different. I had done some Yelp searching for must-try food spots and saw this location pop up. While on campus at IU, a student also recommended this eatery. Students are usually pretty dependable when it comes to the best food places, so I decided to give it a try. I was on IU's campus, and it was roughly a 12-minute walk to get there. There's so much to see in this college town, which made the walk enjoyable. The weather was perfect, so I really enjoyed the stroll. I arrived at the location on a Wednesday evening around 6 p.m., and it was packed! After tasting my food, I understood why. I couldn't quite decide what I wanted to eat, but I ended up choosing spring rolls and fried rice. The amount of food that came with this simple order was massive. I was literally full for the next 24 hours! If I had known how large the portions were, I definitely would have shared it with someone, but I enjoyed every bit of the meal. The server who took my order was very patient and even recommended what was good on the menu despite how busy it was. I visited during the summer, and both the inside and patio were filled with guests. If I ever return to Bloomington, I definitely plan to come here again--next time, I'll bring some guests! read more

My husband arrived before I did. The server asked what he wanted to drink, and he said he wanted to wait for me (because I always choose the wine), but that we'd like to start with an order of dumplings. My favorite restaurant in Bloomington by far. We are always seated quickly, food comes out fast, and it's always delicious. Located in an old house on 4th street, tables are close together and it does get loud on busy nights. With this being said, that does not impact the service here, as it is always great! Tonight I got the chicken pad Thai (I know.. not too adventurous, but it's what sounded good!) I always get a level 1 spice, which is basically sweet. Portions are large for the price. Always say quickly. Always served promptly. Always feels clean. On our most recent trip, I had the pork yellow curry with fried rice (and white rice). The curry is packed full of flavor. If you want it spicy, I recommend adding a spice level to what you want (I ordered medium and should have gotten spicy)- was lacking much spice this visit. I was in Bloomington to see a jazz concert and needed to grab a quick bite to eat. We had a party of four and the hostess was able to accommodate our time restraint. The service was quick and the food was amazing! I am always on the lookout for Chicken Satay and Siam House nailed it. The chicken was perfectly grilled and the peanut butter sauce was delicious. The cucumber relish was sweet and tasty but it lacked cucumbers! It barely had crumbs of carrot. The restaurant offered relaxed outside seating but we sat inside to get quicker service. Siam House never disappoints. I had been wanting some pad thai for the past few weeks and decided to go with some friends. We decided to go right as Siam house opened (12pm on weekends) to get some amazing food. Siam house has a homey feel and is always decorated for the season (since Valentine's Day just passed, they had so many heart shaped balloons and decorations along the walls). They have a huge selection of appetizers, entrees, desserts, and drinks and I chose the chicken pad thai level 3 spice. As seen in the photo, the serving size is huge!! I was eating and felt like I didn't even make a dent in the pile of noodles. Our food came out really fast after we ordered and were very content with the service. I absolutely loved my meal and will definitely have to come again but to try out other entrees from the menu. Definitely get here early to beat the lunch/dinner crowds!! read more

This place deserves 10/10 for food. Sooo good, and very authentic!! There are a lot of good asian restaurants in this cute college town neighbourhood , we made our way to this place to try some spicy Thai cuisine. Everything we ordered, we pretty much devoured till the last bite. To get started we ordered Thai spring rolls, which were very different than the ones I've tried before. They had a filling of glass noodles, shredded cabbage and carrots and the entire filling was sprinkled with pepper. The outer crust of the spring rolls was very crispy and overall the dish was tasting delicious with the sweet and spicy sauce. The spring rolls were Vegan. For main course, I ordered spicy Bamboo stir fry (pad ped) This would be my first time trying a main course whose main ingredient is Bamboo shoots and it definitely did not disappoint. The curry was vegan, filled with a lot of veggies - carrot, peas, broccoli, onions, basil, capsicum. I was told that they also have mushrooms in the stir fry however when my dish arrived it did not have any mushrooms! When I pointed that out to the server, she immediately replaced my dish and added mushrooms to it. They served the curry with jasmine rice (don't miss the cute heart shaped rice!) My boyfriend ordered Pad Thai with chicken, and his only complaint was that there just weren't enough chicken pieces however I think that was his ravenous greed talking!! :) Overall, GREAT place to stop by and have some authentic Thai food! Now that I have a kid at IU, we'll be checking all the great spots in Bloomington and Siam House was first on the list. As the weather was lovely we sat outside on the gorgeous and roomy patio which was perfect. The restaurant offers all the standard Thai favorites which made it hard to choose. We ended up splitting the vegetable green curry and a tofu Thai salad roll. I also had Jasmine tea (they were out of green) and my daughter had a Sweet Thai Iced Coffee. The food was fresh and plentiful- a bit expensive (about $4 more than I usually pay for curry) but it did have a nice flavor and I guess location ties into pricing. I asked for hot (level 3) but didn't find it very spicy so I'd probably move up a level if you like it hot. The salad roll had a heavy herb flavor which my daughter really enjoyed. Her iced coffee was terrific- reminded us of a Vietnamese iced coffee. Overall a solid choice for a nice dinner. read more

The second place I went to when I first came to IU six years ago. Instantly became my go to place and treat yourself meal. Finally back on campus and had to make sure I went. The texture of the flat and wide noodles were perfect and the combination of carrots, corn, onions, and green beans provided a nice crunch. 4 1/2 stars. Nice restaurant with a nice outdoor courtyard with seating. We arrived around 2:20 and were told that they were only doing take out, since they take a break at 3:00pm. The staff was nice about it, and we were allowed to sit outside on the patio, so it didn't bother us. Our food was brought out to us within 15 minutes. We ordered the yellow curry with chicken, panang curry with chicken, cashew chicken, and drunken noodles. The curries were fantastic. The cashew chicken was just ok. The drunken noodles were really good. We all enjoyed our meals, and had plenty of leftovers for later. My only complaint is with the spice levels. I ordered a 3 out of 5 but it wasn't very spicy. I should've ordered a 4 or 5. The other entrees lacked the spice levels as well. Next time we go we'll know to go hotter. Other than that, I have no complaints and will definitely go back. read more

We went here on a Thursday evening, the week before classes start at IU. There was a long line out the door just to put out names down. It took about 40 min to get a table. It also took a long time to get our food, but I think this was due to the back to school rush. Hopefully, it's better at other times. So I'm just ignoring that for my rating. For the green curry they have the two cheapest and most tasteless vegetables, green beans and bell peppers.
