Today I cut 10inches of my hair off to donate. My hair stylist was Penny and she was AMAZING! I've been growing my hair for 3 years now and decided I needed a change. All I knew is I wanted it short but didn't wanna buzz it. When I arrive and penny was asking me what I wanted as far as length, I really could only respond with "I don't know" because I really had no idea what I wanted. She must specialize in people not knowing what they want. Penny cut off all my hair without it looking like I just got my hair cut. I may not be the handsomest of men (my mother thinks otherwise), yet every time I walk out of here I feel like I'm worth a million bucks. Great haircuts will do that for you. I found this awesome spot via Yelp after trying a few other places in the area (Floyd's and the like). I had spent anywhere from $20-$50 for haircut at these other places and all were subpar compared to the cut you get here. I didn't realize this was important --- a friend of mine who is a hairstylist at a $250 salon in SF (wtf?!!) mentioned that it's important for men's cuts to be cut by somebody with a barbers license. Both Norene and Leandra have one, and they are also great stylists. They do a great job with the clippers (awesome on fades --- no lines), they are very meticulous on hard parts, and can of course use scissors. They also do a great job with the straight razor (hence the barbers license!) --- makes your hair look a lot better. I appreciate the straight razor shave for the neckline as well as the shampoo (all standard with a normal haircut). At the end of the day I've stop requesting specific haircuts. I walk in and and just say "do your thing." I just know I'm going to walk out of here with a great cut as I completely trust anyone here to do a great job. Oh by the way, the prices are crazy reasonable (does that even make sense?). I wouldn't waste my time for money elsewhere. It kind of kills me to say that because I'm a selfish SOB and don't want this place to be bursting at the seams (it's already busy). Just make sure you set up a time by calling ahead! I spent a long time looking for a nice salon to go to after deciding I needed a haircut after the long lockdown sojourn. Chopz was appropriately already ranked as the top spot in Denver on Yelp, but I did look at other contenders. It was Chopz that got back to me the fastest and had abundant room in their schedule to fit me in the next day, if I preferred. I was still a little nervous because I thought that being so popular the place might not match my tastes well, but I found that it was in one of my favorite parts of Denver. When I got there, the stairway up to their quiet little loft was an inspiring and atmospheric experience, and their very affordable prices ($40 for my long hair) were displayed as if to promise that such a place is not out of common reach. I came up to find that the lady that had talked to me on the phone was the owner and operator that would also be cutting my hair. I had prepared detailed points on what I wanted, intended for a less idyllic stylist, but she glanced at my one photo and did exactly what I wanted, unique and radical for myself. She was very responsive to minute, ill-worded suggestions about the shape of the back and the like, and gave me exactly what I wanted, which I couldn't have imagined myself. Also, I asked her the most random haircutting questions wondering how immense her experience was, and lo and behold she HAD cut the hair of people with tic disorders, and HAD been asked to purposefully give a terrible haircut- only a very friendly person could draw conversation out so openly! Even her customers were friendly, and we all laughed about the sheer amount of hair that had been removed from my head. In short, it was the best haircut and haircutting experience I've ever had, offering a great deal more than a regular old cost cutters- I will be returning when due in a couple months and recommending to everyone. I will never go to another barbershop as long as Chopz is around. I feel welcomed as soon as I walk up the stairs and am greeted by one of the amazing hairstylists that work here. Each stylist I have had takes a great deal of time to make sure that my haircut is carefully done and methodically carried out. I have never felt rushed so long as I have come here which is definitely something I can not say about other shops.
