This is definitely some of the best sushi I have had in Maryland. I would not consider myself a sushi expert, but this is fresh and made to order. Many places make the mistake of making everything ahead of time, and refrigerating it which takes away from the flavor. Good food and I'll be getting food from here again. They did a good job on making a mild orange chicken for me. But I get the sense they really don't like single diners, regardless of how much food they order or how busy it is. Bigger groups seem to get better taken care of and they don't rush the check from you (I signed the check and one of the workers took it before I even put the pen down). So disappointing! We ordered a pretty simple lunch, and even after checking, and rechecking on the phone, and at the restaurant, parts were missing. The teriyaki chicken was so bland, it tasted like boiled chicken, and the fried rice had no flavor. The best part of that meal was the broccoli... The sushi, pretty simple salmon rolls, you couldn't even taste the salmon, only the seaweed. It was also sloppy, and falling apart. This is the place to go for Sushi in the Bel Air/Fallston/Forest Hill area. Everything is super fresh and the rolls are large. The staff is friendly and helpful. I enjoy the Maryland Sea King roll and the Special Tempura Roll. The prices are a tad higher than its competitors, but that is to be expected and is worth it due to the larger rolls. We used takeout for a quick family meal and were very pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the food, but NOT the quantity. The moo shu pork was delicious with crisp vegetables and tender pork. We ordered basil chicken (a little bleh, but with crisp veggies) and the stir fried vegetables with brown garlic sauce. That was a real winner!! On the downside, the takeout portions were very skimpy, unlike most other Asian restaurants in the area. For as commercial an experience as it should be, given they are opening other restaurants in Maryland, Chopstix works really well. I have been to both the Perry Hall and Forest Hill locations and the latter is by far the most impressive. The decor is beautiful and not gaudy as one would expect in Americanized Asian restaurants. A wood relief of Guan Yin and a water wall are among some of the cool eye candy that greets you as you enter. The sushi bar looks great and it is common to see up to seven sushi chefs behind the bar on a busy weekend evening. I splurged and got the sushi boat after a hard workout day at the gym. The variety of sushi rolls and sashimi was unmatched with anything I've had in the surrounding area. The rolls were packed with tender cuts of fish that were succulent and savory. The gyoza was good and the menu itself is quite large boasting Japanese, Chinese, and Thai options. Definitely worth the trip. read more

To the point....ordered carry out, three meals. Just average. Asked to have beef and broccoli made hot and spicy but it wasn't, just bland. Hunan beef supposed to be spicy...NOT, bland. It's nice that there is finally a solid sushi place near my folk's house. I have ordered from here a few times and dined in once. The sushi is fresh and the specialty rolls are fun. My only issue... the pricing of their basic rolls is absurd! Asking over $5 for a basic Spicy Tuna Roll is crap. Most sushi places of this caliber I have been to offer basic rolls at $2.99-$3.99. There was nothing special about their spicy tuna roll that made me think "Wow, I get why they charge more!" They have zero competition and most Harford county residents I have no clue about sushi so I guess they can take advantage of charging more but I travel all over the US and eat sushi at least twice a week...from high-end sushi places to hole-in-the-wall dives and I find ChopStix to be a little pricey almost ripping people off! If you are looking to grab a few rolls for lunch or dinner its a fine place to go. But if you want to meet up with friends or family, I would drive the extra 20 min to Towson where you get more bang for your buck and better variety of rolls. read more

It's clean and the service is fine. If you're used to sushi from seriously good places, you will be let down, as we were. The smoked salmon used in one of the rolls was extremely questionable tasting. Another was dry and stiff, if that makes sense. We spilt a meal to start, and quickly realized this wasn't going to be a satisfying dinner for either of us and asked for the check. With a barely touched meal shared between 2, I would have inquired if there was something wrong as a waitress, which didn't happen here. Very confusing experience. I've been here many times and loved it. I came in for lunch today and ordered the sesame chicken lunch special that included wonton soup. The soup was great but while I took a few bites of the entree I noticed it was lukewarm. I took a bite of the broccoli and it was ice cold. I immediately lost my appetite. I just wanted to get out and have them cancel my check. The owner insisted I pay for the soup! I didn't want to make a scene so I just paid 4.72 for a cup of soup??? Come on man! That's just wrong and I hope this review will be seen and read by others so the manager changes his stingy policy. read more

Food was excellent as usual but it took forever to order once we received our food the waiter never came to check on us then they switched waiters on us towards end of meal also took a unreasonable amount of time to receive check and box for leftovers and I don't think the second waiter ever planned on seeing if we needed change because I payed in cash and never saw him again. I'm hoping we came here on an off day but the service and speed of our meal was just horrible and hardly anyone was in the place. We came for lunch around 1. I ordered the Pearl River Roll which is my fave and a combo lunch and my friend ordered California roll and a combo lunch. The soups came soon enough but we finished them and waited, and waited and waited. My friend was getting a little impatient because we had somewhere to be in an hour. We watched our waiter in a conversation with the two sushi makers. It seemed very intense, loud and long. I finally saw my pearl river roll sitting on top and we waited, and waited but it never got delivered and we did not see the California roll....but the conversation they were having continued. If we could not get our sushi we thought our meals should have come out, waiting this long. Finally my friend went up to the front counter and asked what the heck was going on. The waiter like woke up and said oh, not ready yet....yes not ready because your asleep at the wheel and forgot you had customers. We asked to pay for our soups, which they said not to worry about and we left. For a place with hardly anyone there, maybe this will make them realize why. No need for me to ever go back here. The regular Chinese food is just mediocre anyway. I noticed the time when I got in my car and we had been there almost an hour with no food. read more

What a disappointment. A place with the potential for terrific atmosphere sorely lacks in the food. Sushi was chewy and served on a cramped plate. Chicken was tough and served with only a smidgen of vegetables. Even the edamame was meh. $50 for a family of four and we would have been happier at the local chain food restaurant. I would give them 4 stars for food but 5+ for their always excellent customer service. If something isn't right, they will go above and beyond to make it so. The food is always at least "good" but usually very good. Sushi is always fresh. For the last 12 months I have eaten here more than any other restaurant. I see no reason not to continue on a regular basis. I love several of their specialty rolls, their Singapore Rice noodles, crab fried rice, their pepper tuna is outstanding.....I could go on..... Been there quit a few times with my bf but last 2 times we've gone; we sat in the barside. The food was excellent but after 8pm or so; the karioke machine was turned on and got very loud. So loud to the point where we couldnt hear each other talk or eat. If you want a nice quit dinner, either go before 8pm or ask for a seat away from the bar. My wife and I frequent the Forest Hill location with great anticipation! Many places near by are pricy too for the specialty rolls but we find Chopstix to be far better in quality and presentation. As in every other place, normal rolls are just that (except California roll), the dinner food, we always order extra for leftovers and have never been disappointed! My best friend's wife is from Tokyo and she loves their Sushi, can't beat a true Japanese woman's opion!!! read more

My Coworkers and I went here for lunch. I have dined at this location several times for dinner and enjoy it here. However, my lunch outing today was not so enjoyable. The food was great, if I could get it in my mouth before the waitresses took it away. One of my coworkers had asked the waitress to leave her unfinished soup on the table because she was not finished with it. When her main course was being served, simultaneously, another waitress came in and swooped up her soup. My coworker had not noticed it at that time, but soon realized the waitress had taken it and asked for her soup back (they brought her a fresh bowl back). For myself, I had not finished my Miso Soup right away, but set it aside to work on it throughout my meal. The next thing I know the waitress swoops in and takes my soup without even asking if I was finished with it. I had ordered sushi and was 90% through with my sushi when the waitress returned and asked if there was anything she could take away from the table. While she was asking, she took my soy sauce dipping bowl away with soy sauce still in it and I still had sushi on my plate. I felt like I literally had to hover over my sushi plate so she wouldn't take that away either. I did finish my sushi (which was fantastic by the way), but as I was taking the chopstix out of my mouth, on my last bite of sushi, my plate was swooped out from underneath me, leaving me with enough time to toss my chopstix on the plate as she was walking away. I found it very rude and rushing. Which I could not understand why we were being rushed, as there was no lunch crowd waiting to be seated, and plenty of open booths/tables. I could understand them taking dishes away if clearly there was no food left on or in it, or even if there was paper trash from straw paper on it. BUT if there is food still left on/in the dish, PLEASE ASK ME IF I'M FINISHED BEFORE TAKING MY PLATE AWAY! I have never had this type of experience at dinner times when I have gone, and will still likely return for dinner meals. However this experience has tainted mine and my coworkers choices for lunch outings. read more
