Great Chinese American and sushi restaurant in the Perry Hall area. The unexpected absolute highlight of this restaurant is their sushi, which I give 5 stars with no hesitation. The prices for the sushi are average or maybe slightly above average for the area, but definitely well worth it. The rolls are huge with lots of fresh tasting fish. Their California rolls are huge and have Kani/crab salad with lots of Mayo mixed it - a great classic. As for their Chinese food, it was alright. I personally enjoyed all of these dishes as a Chinese American, whereas my parents who grew up in China and Hong Kong did acknowledge that it is not very authentic. Definitely targeted for the American/western palate but still tasty nonetheless. My favorite was the eggplant and the string beans. The walnut shrimp was very good too, but a little too much breading. Wasn't a huge fan of the triple delight due to the sauce being a bit salty for my taste, but it was packed with so much seafood, meat, and veggies! My favorite Chinese restaurant hands down. Have been dining here for at least 20 years, maybe longer but I don't know remember how old I was when we frequented the Towson location. Their pearl roll and sesame chicken are my absolute favorites. Even though this is a 30 minute drive (give or take depending on 696), I am never disappointed. We dine in as a family a couple of times a year as this is my mothers favorite Chinese restaurant as well, if you knew my mother that would carry a lot more weight. The outside does not have a very inviting look, just plain and simple. The design quality is on the inside. Once we stepped in, we were amazed at the decor, definitely gorgeous. We were greeted and seated promptly and drink orders in a flash. There is a lot of substance to the menu, and I would be surprised if they did not do it well. It smacks of quantity and quality from start to finish. The lunch specials,available 7 days/week, were looking pretty good, a something for everybody. They came with a generous entree, soup of choice, shrimp (1) spring roll, and choice of fried rice or white rice. The Wonton soup arrived quickly. Honestly, the broth portion was on the light side. It would do better with more flavor. The actual wonton was great. The main dishes arrived before we had finished the soup, now how's that for service? They each looked so good, and the aroma was awesome. My husband got his "go-to" dish... Shrimp lomein, it had a decent amount of medium-sized shrimp throughout, not just on top for eye dressing. It was really good and he left nothing to bring home. I got the Mongolian pork. This is a new dish to me, and I would order this again without hesitation, and it was just delicious. What really impressed me was the texture of it, a distinct vegetable al dente, and the pork was well seasoned and tender. Plus, there was plenty of sauce for it, which, in my opinion, is above and beyond desirable. I do wish we should have ordered a pot of tea. After thoughts! Others who came in were ordering it. The serving staff was highly professional in apparel and politeness. They were very On Pointe. And above all, reasonable prices, our lunches with a can of pop was just over $20. Great Christmas Day experience, even with a long wait! This place has been a tiny blip on my radar for decades and somehow I've never made it here. But this year there was a Christmas miracle! Went here with family on 12/25. The wait was about 40 minutes for a table, but that wss worth it. The food was delicious. The decor was dated, like the building...but those are just testaments to how long this place has been successful. I had unagi sushi, which was two generous portions of eel meat, cooked perfectly and presented well. I also had the General Chou's chicken, their version of Gen Tso's. The inside of the chicken was tender and moist while the outside was crisp and covered in a flavorful sauce that was neither too sweet or spicy, but somehow managed to be just enough of each. Some broccoli came with it as well as a large bowl of rice. Waitress was nice and did great table service. Prices were what you'd expect. read more

I really miss the Towson location. I had been going there for at least 10 yrs. I've driven out of my way to the Perry Hall location since Towson closed and it's always hit or miss, more miss than hit. My last 3 visits the food was not good. I've expressed my issues with mgmt and just last night instead of apologizing and offering me something to compensate for the continuous issues he gave me 45 reasons why my fried rice in my last order was horrible and how fried rice is prepared/ served. I haven't been to the Orient restaurant in Perry Hall in awhile. It was disappointing. We went for lunch and I wanted to get something good since I don't get out a lot. The lunch specials came with a spring roll, (which had no flavor) and fried rice ( yuck...the worst I ever ate..bland no flavor no onion) My meal was just so-so. We ordered food from here a few weeks ago because we had my family over. Everything we got was delicious from the Mongolian beef to the pork friend rice and wonton soup. They only thing I was disappointed with and tends to be a common thing is that the chicken and broccoli was not in brown sauce. My family and I were introduced to The Orient about 4 years ago by friends. They actually took us there for lunch and we all really liked it. Plus we were new to the Perry Hall area and as I am sure you know - finding your Chinese Restaurant is very important when you move. We are not dine-in folks but we have ordered take-out from there since that day. It's always very consistent and the delivery guy is so nice and pleasant. Just picked up wonton soup , shrimp fried rice , and hunan chicken and it's not good at all. Soup had no flavor at all , it was yellow in color but absolutely flavorless. Shrimps in the fried rice were dried up and tough, like it was old . Rice was mushy. Hunan Chicken had this funky taste to it , like someone's bandaid had dropped into the food!! Disgusting ! We picked up the food and decided to return it but it's better not to . We don't want them to remake it . The sushi was good and fresh, the entrees were pretty good, I had the king pau scallops and it was mostly peanuts a fair amount of scallops but no vegetables. We were never offered anything but water to drink. We were celebrating a birthday and let them know but it didn't seem to matter. Prices were medium too high. Not a fan. I got egg rolls and lo mein. The lo mein was flavorless. It was so bland and included mushrooms for some reason. It just didn't work. The egg roll was all cabbage and there was one whole shrimp randomly in the middle of it so the majority of bites were just cabbage. Also, it didn't come with sweet and sour sauce. Hooray, The Orient has opened back up for carryout! Anyone that knows me knows that I am not the biggest fan of Asian food, but man, I have been missing this spot. They are my favorite Chinese food carryout. The Szechuan Chicken is my go-to (no celery please!) and I live for their hot and sour soup, a great cure for any cold. The only item I don't love is their egg rolls, too big and doughy for me. We always get their shrimp fried rice, and the chicken and broccoli in brown sauce is another favorite. My parents swear by the moo goo gai pan and shrimp lo mein. This is a solid option by all standards and the staff is pleasant and helpful. After a failed attempt to visit a Downtown sushi spot (Saturday night on the weekend before St. Pattys day... ), we decided to head a little closer to home. After perusing some of the reviews for sushi spots, we decided to come to the Orient.. Top priority was good sushi of course. Next BYOB. Parking was great.. There is a lot right at the restaurant. The decor is a bit outdated with 80s type pastel decor. But this is the only cons that I can think of. We were greeted by a friendly host and seated right away. The staff was very pleasant. On to the food.. We got our order of Wonton strips as soon as we sat down.. And because we were super hungry, our second order was brought out just as quick. The Kirin roll was amazing! Tons of crab meat was spilling over the roll. It was so fresh! I absolutely loved everything about it. The Towson roll was another one that I really enjoyed. We ordered the Lava roll which our waiter did explain was a baked roll.. This was not my fave.. The texture was a bit off putting.. It wasn't gross but just really not what I expected. I would NOT order this again. This is a place that I could see becoming a regular at. It's not fancy, but you get good food for a good price. Good friendly service. Great parking.
