We have driven by this restaurant for years and decided we wanted to give it a try. We were disappointed when we called to find out that they do not take any reservations. So, we arrived early on Saturday to meet friends for a 6:30 PM dinner time. This is a small restaurant with 8 tables total with seating for approximately 27. The restaurant is charming and cozy. We were lucky there was a table for 4 by the window. It was a rainy evening, and the restaurant was chilly. It is a BYOB with no corkage fee, which is very nice. Our friends arrived shortly after we did. They served us water right away, and we asked for wine glasses which they brought as well. Because I was cold, I ordered decaf hot tea. Their menu is quite extensive. My husband decided on the Grilled Salmon with the Terriyaki sauce. He was not thrilled - he did not feel the salmon was fresh. I had the Shrimp Stir Basil, which was decent size portion of stir-fried onions, bell peppers, fresh basil leaves, carrots, string beans, zucchini, and snow peas in a brown sauce served with white rice. I did ask for no spice on my dish. Our friend ordered the Wonton Soup, which looked nothing like the Wonton Soup she was used to - the dumplings were completely different looking - she did eat them, but she did not eat the broth as she did not like the flavor. I tasted it, and it was not good. She did enjoy the order of Spicy Tuna Roll she ordered - she did say it was very spicy. Her husband had the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura, which he said was very good. Thai cuisine is definitely in my top three. That said I met with a friend at Fuji San for dinner. I almost always get chicken pad thai when it's on the menu and this night wasn't any different. Additionally, we ordered the kitchen sampler to try a variety of the appetizers. It came with spring rolls, tempura veggies, fried tofu, shrimp and chicken paired with three different sauces for dipping. I especially enjoyed the cucumber and sweet chili sauces. My favorite from the sampler was the tempura veggies and the spring rolls. The chicken pad Thai was delicious and coooked just right. There are about 8 tables in the dining room. It's a small family owned restaurant with accommodating and attentive customer service. The prices are right and definitely a nice spot for solo dining, family outting of even a date night. read more

Not impressed at all. Portions were small for the price. This food did not taste good. I expected better given previous reviews.

We ordered take out this past Sunday evening and it was a bit late in the evening. Web site said they close at 8:00 PM and since it was a little after 7 I thought I had plenty of time. The waitress that answered my call said they were closing earlier than usual and if I could be there by 7:30 they could take my order. Appreciated their honesty. Glad we went, as it was our first experience and they didn't disappoint. All the food was fresh and delicious. read more

I love Thai food and have gotten carry-out from this restaurant in the past. It has been fair to good. Well, the experience last night was very disappointing. I ordered Chicken Satay which was so tough I could not eat it. I couldn't even get it off the skewer. It went out. I ordered dumplings which I think they make. I ate them, but they forgot the dipping sauce. I wasn't happy. The chicken dish was OK. It was spicy which I like. The only complaint here is that it was a meager portion. Fuji San is located in a strip mall on York Road just a couple of lights north of Target. You might miss it if you're not paying attention but it's right next to Wingstop and Cold Stone. I wasn't sure if it was open since you couldn't tell if the open sign was on but then again the sun was shining directly on it. It's a small family place with about 10 tables in there. I didn't really look around too much but it looked like your typical Asian restaurant. Service was amazing! I believe her name was Tiffany and she was quick to get us seated, got us waters and was so polite and attentive the entire night. Another reason why we would go back. Overall the food we great and I think this might be the best Thai food in the area. We saw all the reviews about the Drunken Noodles and so we had to get that. It was spot on and the portion size was perfect for one person. Great flavor, perfect temp, and was not at all greasy. The Egg Noodles were quite excellent as well and definitely a dish that I would come back for. A decent amount of meat and veggies to go with the noodles. Might add that the noodles were all cooked perfectly. We also ordered the Panang Curry with chicken. It's not something I would normally order but after having it here, I think it'll be something I have in the future. Located in a strip mall, this unassuming restaurant is decent. Looking for a Thai place, I found Fuji San on Yelp. It was easy to get a table for four on a Saturday night. The service was good. The spring rolls with shrimp were really good. The duck entree was tasty. The red curry dish was pretty bad. I ordered chicken and regretted that after the first bite. The chicken was either boiled from frozen or had been reheated. It was tough and tasted raw. I struggled with getting it down, as I was dining with friends and didn't want to spit it into the cloth napkin, no matter how discreet. I poured the entire bowl of rice into the dish and only ate the rice with broth, as the vegetables were crunchy and also raw. The broth was really good, but I left hungry. Don't plan to return, but at least I tried a new place and everyone else enjoyed their meals. And I didn't get sick, as I expected! Yay. read more

I went to lunch here today and it exceeded my expectations, it was very, very good! I just moved to Maryland from California where we have a lot of great Thai restaurants to pick from and I will definitely be coming back to this one. I ordered the drunken noodles with chicken and my mother-in-law ordered the fried rice with shrimp and to share we had the eggrolls. Everything was so fresh, a lot of flavor in the sauce and perfect portions. The waitress was extremely kind and accommodating to my young baby. The Drunken noodles were great! We didn't love the gyoza or the miso soup (we prefer more of a miso flavor and less seaweed) though.

Great spot for carry out! The drunken noodles were great, the curry was flavorful and they have my favorite Thai dessert, sweet sticky rice with mango. I liked the veggie spring rolls, but the crab wontons were just ok. The front of house staff was kind and helpful and the order was ready right on time. They do have a few tables inside but I have only done carry out. If you're in the area and looking for Thai food, this is a good choice for the locals. read more

Every time I come home, I always go to Fuji San. The food is always consistent and spectacular. It is exactly what I ordered and done very well. The servers are always very enthusiastic about making sure you are happy. I try to try something new every time I go and have yet to be disappointed. Surprisingly good food! Upon entry I was a little skeptical as it's a tiny establishment, located in a tight strip mall, off a busy main road. My supervisor and I stopped in for a quick lunch on a Friday afternoon around 12/1ish. It wasn't busy at all and we were seated right away. They don't have "lunch specials," like we're used to BUT they have an expansive lunch menu with affordable prices. My supervisor and I ate for $25.00 (tax and tip included). I had the shrimp fried rice and my supervisor opted for the drunken noodle (level 2 spicy). As our waiter sat our food down, the aromatics of our dishes had me salivating. Lol. Was fully prepared to have a lukewarm experience here. It seems very suburban Asian, with many countries cuisines mashed together. I wasn't feeling well and it was FREEZING, so I stared with the wonton soup. Best. Choice. Ever. It was so delicate and garlicky and flavorful! The actual wontons were filled with shrimp, which made for an interesting texture at first. I want to drink nothing but that broth for the rest of my life. We shared a papaya salad - perfectly spicy. I'm allergic to carrots, so they left those off for me. I really appreciated it. The peanuts and dressing were all just the perfect amounts. I finished with the pad Thai with tofu. It was actually quite unique! The sauce was really nicely spiced with lots of garlic. The noodles were chewier than usual (in a good way) and very thin. I loved it! read more

We just moved to the area and we're so happy to have found this fantastic place so quickly! We ordered the Gyoza, Chicken Fried Rice, and Chicken Pad Thai to go. Even after a quick stop at the store, the food was still hot when we got home and it was delicious! There is corn in the fried rice which isn't my favorite, but it was still really great. This place has the best Pad Thai in the area. I have food allergies and they are accommodating, something other Asian food restaurants occasionally struggle with with me. Total surprise. We had low expectations based on the unassuming exterior in a nondescript strip center, and the unassuming decor. We like Thai food, but had a picky 87-year-old with us, who is spice-averse (and slow service averse, and noise-averse...) so our expectations were as low as our needs were nigh. Fuji San did not disappoint at all. Deep, imaginative menu of all of the Thai favorites, as well as an extensive sushi menu that really lets the customer pick and choose what they like and skip what they don't. Service was fast and prices were reasonable for what you get. We were in early on a Thursday evening. We'll try it during a more peak time and report back. Whether its worth a trip from afar remains to be seen, but inasmuch as we are up and down York Road a lot, this place definitely is on our go-back-again list. read more

After my most recent visit, I have to downgrade this place a star. The food is simply not as good as it once was. I ordered green curry, a staple for me, and found it too brothy and bland, which came across as somewhat watered down. The flavors and richness that characterize any good curry simply weren't there. My husband was similarly unimpressed with his noodle dish. They need a new cook here. I'm also giving restaurants a hard time when they automatically put straws in the water glasses. I'm not old and infirm or a toddler, and no one else really needs a straw in their water. This practice has to stop, and when I told our server, he agreed, but told me the owners are resisting. This is a solid three star place if you're craving Thai food and maybe some sushi and can't decide. I work in Towson so it's easy to swing by here to pick up some Thai food. Prices for lunch are comparable to Thai restaurants in Towson, the apps are a little on the higher side. I usually get their drunken noodles which is really good with one exception- they love to add filler veggies that just don't belong. As a Thai person, I'm a bit offended to find zucchini in my drunken noodles. That's just wrong. I've also had their pad Thai which is pretty good and authentic. I think that also had some filler veggies that didn't belong. As for sushi, I asked for tuna tataki one day, you know seared slices of tuna. They gave me tuna tartar, the cubed ceviche like tuna. I still ate it though. It was fresh and tasty but a bit spicy. Wasnt what I expected but still good. Service is a-ok. Usually quite quick with the food but not real personable. Was looking for a place for Thai food while I was in town for business and found Fuji San on Yelp. It was close to my hotel so I gave it a shot. I did not try the sushi but I had a Kitchen Sampler appetizer and Pad Khing which is ginger with vegetables and chicken over rice. The sampler platter was very big and a good mix of most of the appetizers. The pad khing was not bad. I wish it had more ginger in it but there was a lot of vegetables and it had good flavor. The service was good and the ambience was good enough. Typical small Asian place. read more

Eh. Mediocre at best. We wandered here Friday night for Sushi. Ordered several rolls, none that knocked our socks off. We also ordered veggie spring rolls that were fantastic, papaya salad that had too much fish sauce, and the winner of the night- chicken drunken noodles. The drunken noodles could have been spicier, but we stopped eating everything else to focus on the noodles. Sauce was good, chicken was moist, and veggies plentiful. Service was blah in this small establishment that had a strange smell. It seemed like a family who didn't really want us there. Fuji San is my favorite place to go for sushi or thai. I was a regular at San Sushi (the sushi restaurant that closed right across the street) and although I was so sad to see it close, I did not have to fear having to find a new sushi place because san sushi and fuji san have the same owner! For anyone who had enjoyed the food at san sushi before, Fuji San does not disappoint. The only difference is now there are more thai options! The sushi is always fresh and delicious. I usually have a variety of the fresh fish and it always is perfect. I would have to say though, if you are calling in a carry out order make sure to be very specific about what you want!! I order carryout from here all the time and last week the woman who took my order got it very wrong. I had ordered the spicy salmon roll (which is listed pretty obviously on the sushi menu) and instead got a sushi hand roll, which is not at all what I wanted and was very disappointing. Besides this time, i have not had any issues! Outside of sushi the soups are delicious, the sesame dressing for the salad dressing is amazing, and my go to is the shrimp pad thai which never disappoints. read more

My friend & I ate at Fuji San on 4/12/15, but I'm only getting around to reviewing it now. I'm baffled at all the 4 & even 5-star reviews I'm seeing of this eatery, because our experience there was sub-par. Another reviewer said: "Why isn't this place busier"? I'd suggest that the experiences here are likely inconsistent. Our first impression of the place was good! The decor is welcoming & casual. Fuji San has an open ceiling, which gives the impression of being in a repurposed industrial space. The combination of that with some traditional Thai figurines & a a sushi clock (!) indicated a sense of whimsy. We came pretty late, so it was mostly empty & we were seated right away. Service seemed..not rude, but they were terse. Although it was over an hour & a half 'til closing we got the impression they wanted us to finish in a hurry so they could go home; a kid was doing homework at the bar. We promised them we'd be speedy eaters as we were starving. Because we were so hungry we started with the Kitchen Sampler. This is a platter of fried appetizers that includes chicken satay, vegetable spring rolls, tod mun, tempura & tod gung. The tempura was a little heavy, the satay a little dry but the bikini shrimp were good. Overall, the presentation wasn't the most appealing, but it was hot out of the fryer & we were staving. Thus, our first impression of the food wasn't too bad. For our entree we decided to get an order of Pad Thai - which is a good, better safe than sorry option to judge a place you're unfamiliar with - & a couple of pieces of sushi, which is always a roll of the dice when you're not familiar with a place. With the edge off our hunger we slowed down to really taste the Pad Thai, which came out first. Like the appetizer platter, it wasn't bad. It wasn't transcendent; it wasn't awful. The noodles had good texture; there was a pleasant snap of lemongrass, or maybe tamarind - I'm not sure. But that almost-sour tang Pad Thai is supposed to have was there. Then the sushi rolls came out. Remember that "roll of the dice" comment? Well, I failed my saving throw versus an icky evening from here on out. The first sushi was a Dragon Roll & the other was a Rainbow Roll (I think). Now, why do I not remember what kind of roll the other was? Because we didn't eat it. My traveling companion smelled the Dragon Roll & said something smelled off. Eel can be kind of strong, so I doubted her at first but I also smelled something not quite right about the roll. & the other had the same aroma. It wasn't all-the-way spoiled..just..not fresh. I'm lucky enough to have eaten some good sushi, & a very little bit of outright bad sushi. The one time sushi made me ill it smelled like the sushi on 4/12 at Fuji San. I made myself take a tentative nibble, but couldn't bring myself to eat more. The smell was too off-putting. I wanted to mention this to our server, but my friend sent the rolls back uneaten when I got up to wash my hands. She explained that it didn't smell or taste fresh, & that we couldn't eat it. Now this is where customer service comes into play. We hadn't been rude; we didn't make a scene. But the manager/owner/whoever was there that night charged us *full price* for inedible food. Didn't even offer to take one of them off of our bill. I was starting to feel kinda sick to my stomach, & we were two hours away from home. So I wasn't up for arguing. But what kinda place does that? If it's late & you're having an off night, mistakes can happen. That's part of running a restaurant. But if customers say the food isn't edible, & they clearly ate everything else, & don't seem to be jerks - *believe them*, & don't make them pay for food they can't eat. I didn't want to screw their server over so they got a minimum tip. But I'd never eat here again. When I started writing this review I had it set to two stars - one for the decor & one for the Pad Thai, which wasn't the worst I've had. But the more I remembered about this meal the less I liked it. Clearly lots of others had a different experience than we did & your mileage may vary. If my miles bring me back to this part of Maryland, though, I know where I'm *not* going for dinner. read more
