There's not too many Thai restaurants north of Baltimore. Fortunately, there is Thai Rainbow. It's a cozy little Thai restaurant in Middle River, at the White Marsh exit. The menu has all the traditional Thai dishes. The pork satay skewers have a nice grill smoky flavor. The panang curry is perfectly creamy and tangy. The beef namtok had generous portions of beef steak. It was surprisingly not very spicy and needed additional chilies. Pro tip, ask the server for the chili pepper condiment tray (see photo) so you can individually spice the food. The best reason to go here is that the food is reasonably priced. If you live north of the city and want delicious Thai food at a reasonable price, this is the place to go. read more

Extremely fast service for a restaurant; it operates more like a carry-out with a dining room. The music was also a vibe; I just wish the AC was up a tad bit higher. The drink menu is super limited - they only carry water and coke products BUT they are BYOB! The dishes were a fairly healthy portion (we had three boxes of leftovers) and a great price. The sauce was reminiscent of a lighter version of brown sauce you'd get at a Chinese restaurant. Drunken Noodles: 9/10 (according to my partner) Good flavor, everything tasted fresh, and the noodles were cooked well. The only detractor was that the tails were left of the shrimp. Basil Fried Rice: 1,000/10 OMG this was the best fried rice of my life. I tried it specifically because of the yelp reviews and they did not do it justice. If you've read any of my reviews, you know I'm a sauce girl - I think sauces make a dish. This fried rice doesn't need any sauce! Been looking for a new Thai spot since our last one closed. It's been years since we had Thai food (unless you count having it in Myrtle Beach in June - I don't because it was horrible and I didn't eat more than a couple bites). We were over on Rossville Blvd doing some eye doctor stuff, and Thai Rainbow was kinda on the way home. Oddly enough they do not have take-away menus, which was a pain because I was hoping to see an updated listing of what foods were available, and you don't always get that with online menus. My boyfriend was told to either use the menu on the wall, or the website. I didn't really want to get out of the van cuz it was chilly out, and I wanted to streamline going home. So we ordered online. It was fine, except that my boyfriend had just had his eyes dilated and was having a bit of trouble with the glow of his smartphone. We had the 8 piece wing appetizer. They were perfectly fried. I usually don't eat a lot of chicken skin, but I kept these all to myself. They weren't sauced, but there was a small container of something resembling a very runny duck sauce that I used because I love sauces. Jeremy had pho (beef broth, meatballs, slices of beef) but was unimpressed with the noodles, and did not finish it. We gave it to a friend the next day for lunch, who mixed some red curry into it. So yeah, we also had some Red Curry (coconut milk, bamboo shoots, bell pepper, basil, Chinese eggplant), with duck, which was spicy but not overly hot. I loved the big pieces of eggplant, but I may be the only person I know who loved eggplant (besides my mom). It came with rice, but we didn't use it because Jeremy is diabetic. We didn't stop there. We also had Drunken Noodles (wide rice noodles, basil, bell pepper, green beans and onions) with duck, because who goes to get Thai food and doesn't get drunken noodles? The noodles have a great chew to them. We picked out the green beans, though, because we're not fans of those - ever. Will definitely get this again. Jeremy also had Beef Cube Steaks (Beef flank steak deep fried to a crisp and sautéed with oyster sauce and onion). There were also mushrooms, which I ate because Jeremy doesn't dig the fungus. He was surprised that it was an entire steak, served with lo mien and a side salad (dressed with what could have been ranch). Delightful. We don't usually get beverages, but I can't resist milk teas. Mango for me; passion fruit for Jeremy. It was a wonderful meal. Will return. read more

Overall great! This was our not our first time. The server was nice and accommodating. Although I wouldn't recommend if you are looking for a quick bite because it gets busy especially on weekdays at lunch. The food were okay with a good presentation. Drunken noodle is nice for first-timers. For coffee lovers, I'd suggest their Thai coffee. First time diner so I can only speak to my experience. My jasmine tea tasted like fish water and the pad Thai was not very well prepared.

I stopped in for lunch yesterday. The space is nicely decorated. We ordered two lunch menu items. The portions were relatively small. The Penang curry is my staple and was Thai Spicy which I appreciated. The curry was a little thinner than I would have expected. I ordered a side of broccoli to be added into my curry -- I was given maybe 4 small pieces of broccoli. My dining partner ordered the crispy noodles with pork. The meat was a good quality. The sauce was lacking flavor and unappetizing because it was thick and coagulated. I'm not sure if I would return unless I planned to BYOB. read more

The server and host Tommy was awesome, from his friendly demeanor to his flavorful recommendations. He was a one stop shop handling the door, serving, running food and the food delivery orders! In a rather modern strip mall, this unassuming place manages to pack in a bit of charm, great food, and reasonable prices. I grabbed a lunch order (10.99) of Drunken Noodles to go. The smell was great, they didn't go light on the garlic - and while I would have liked a little more spice, it packed some great flavor. The chicken in it was just okay - seeing photos of the shrimp, I'll probably go that direction next time. The highlight though was the thai iced tea. One of the best I've had in Maryland. A word about the staff. I put in my order with an estimated ready time of 12:40. It shifted to 12:51, so I headed down there, only having a short window to grab lunch before a meeting. At 12:56 the hostess apologized and said it would be ready in about 5 minutes - it just needed to be backed up. I had to go, so I told her I would be back for it in about an hour. Visited Thai Rainbow on the recommend of friends who are regular diners. Service was super friendly and the food was tasty with sizable portions (we had enough to take home for dinner the next day). I had the Basil Fried Rice with #2 spice level and it had a nice subtle flavor, which I like Definitely save room for dessert. This review is hard to write because our waiter was amazing!!! He was the only one on the floor serving, hosting, cashing people out and he was stretched very thin. However, it was an hour and a half and all we had gotten was our appetizers which came out at different times over the 1 1/2 we sat there. One appetizer was still frozen when we bit into it. This was my first time here and no way will it be my last! I have no idea why this place never came up on my radar before but I'm so glad it did. This place is in a very nice and up and coming location. As soon as I walked in two employees greeted me. I first noticed the cozy ambiance and then I noticed how clean it was! There were people sitting and eating and as soon as I ordered I turned around and there were people constantly coming in. The man that took my order asked what type of food do I generally like, once I told him he suggested a very popular dish which was the curry stir fried. I took him up on his suggestion and I can now see why it's popular. It was delicious! It is extremely rare to find authentic curry that is perfectly seasoned to your liking. Thai Rainbow was such a pleasant surprise! Tucked away in a Baltimore suburb strip mall, this restaurant is pretty decent. The pad thai was flavorful while not being too saucy or sweet-- just how I like it. The Esam Papaya Salad tasted just like my favorite spot, but substituted the cabbage for lettuce. The Massaman curry was nutty and sweet with a hint of heat. I prefer mine with more peanuts and green beans, and I could do without the pineapple chunks-- but all just personal preference. The portions are incredibly generous for the price. Everyone was so kind and welcoming even though they were approaching closing time. I will definitely be back again soon. read more

The food was great, although if you're looking for a traditionally Thai place, the food here seemed to have a bit more of a Chinese spin on it. That is my only real complaint--But it was delicious all the same. I will say the consistency of the flat noodles in the drunken noodles dish was incredible. Some of the better textured flat rice noodles I've had! The mango sticky rice was a must -have. We also ordered the chive dumplings and I highly recommend them. And the service was wonderful. We've ordered from this place 4 times I think since we moved here. I love the flavors for everything they serve. The staff has been super friendly the few times I've been to pick-up as we've only done takeout. Service is also good for being made fresh and ordering through the Yelp/GrubHub app. If there's a problem, they call and let us know beforehand and we work out a solution or just take off the item. I consistently order the spicy basil friend rice with beef or shrimp and bf orders the drunken noodles. As critical as I am with Thai food places, I was pleasantly surprised that it tasted how I expected and that is authentic. The portions are typical and there's a lot of food, so I usually have leftovers for the next day. The shrimp have always been cleaned before being cooked into my food, which is big for me. I think my only real gripe about Thai Rainbow is that 2/4 times I've ordered the spicy basil fried rice, it hasn't been spicy at all. Which, I know some people aren't big on spicy foods even if it says spicy on the menu, but we love spicy and I would expect it to be spicy every time I order it. Their spicy is magic because it's hot, but the flavor is 100% still there. read more

1/14/24 was the 2nd time I ordered from Thai Rainbow. The 1st time was 4 years ago and I ordered the red curry. it was okay, not enough flavor. Well, my husband is new to Thai food, and he loves Thai Aroma in Elliott City. But we ordered from this place, pad Thai shrimp, calamari and papaya salad. The rice noodles were dry and the entire dish was made poorly. I don't know if the food was old and reheated or what. but it was super salty. The calamari was salty and chewy. We could not eat it. $76 wasted, we did carry out. Thai Aroma has tender calamari and the flavors, texture of the pad Thai are balanced. If you have never had good Thai food, you may think this food is good. But if you have had good Thai food, this place doesn't come close! read more

I ordered $87 worth of food)for 2 people..that's a lot) online yesterday (December 27th). I asked for the Chive Dumpling(5), and was sent 3 Chive pancakes (at least that is what I think that they were). When we called, we were told that they do not have the dumplings anymore! I stated that they were on the menu. I was NEVER offered a solution, much less an apology. Also, my friend ordered the red curry with added shrimp. Instead, we were given chicken. The crispy shrimp appetizers were hard and stale. The pad Thai were dry..with the noodles stuck together. I am SO sad! This was my FAVORITE Thai restaurant EVER! The first time I had the Yellow Pad Curry I became an instant addict. Lately, their food has gone down hill. A few weeks ago, my friend ordered some cashew dish and it didn't have cashews! Last week I picked up Yellow Pad Curry and it was overcooked and not fresh at all. The food was so good my first visit I decided to go back and try it again to make sure it really was that good and there indeed was a pot at the end of the rainbow!!! I have tasted the Pad Thai, fried rice, pad curry and the green curry (pot of gold)! All the food is so tasty and fresh. A bit of a warning tho...this place is not for the 'soft mouth' because they do use spice. I will say again that all the food is amazing but the Green Curry hands down is the best I have had by a wide margin. It's spicy, sweet, and seasoned all at the same time. Having been to Thailand for extended visits many times, enjoying the food, I have come to expect US Thai restaurants to let me down. Finally, I was not disappointed. We had the spring rolls, fried rice, pork curry and wings. All were excellent, but the pork curry was exceptional. I felt like I was in Thailand again. The rice was spicy, as it should be, but if you don't like spicy food, choose wisely. The wings were different and I would recommend them to anyone to try. These were not spicy, so anyone can enjoy. The food here is excellent and as close to being in Thailand as I have ever had in the US. This is the first and only US Thai restaurant I will return to. read more

First time at this restaurant. I ordered the Panang Curry with Chicken. It was delicious! This is one of my favorite dishes . The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that the curry sauce was very thin. I brought it home and used corn starch to thicken a little. The flavor was great though. I interacted with two employees. Both were very pleasant. My take out order arrived very quickly.
