Hibachi grill
Claudia C.

This was in response to a birthday invitation, a buy 1 get 1 offer. When we stepped in the door, it was like we slid into a magazine, just so impressed with the beauty and atmosphere. Very professional. We were seated at 1 of the flat top Hibachi grills, only us. A small family came in later and was seated at the next 1 over. They ordered sushi, I hear it is outstanding here. We ordered, and then the process started, a bowl of mushroom soup. This was a clear broth with a fresh mushroom and a few shards of mushrooms, very tasty. Also included was a small lettuce salad with house dressing. Honestly, I have never had such a crisp, fresh lettuce salad. I'm totally impressed so far. Then the wait began, the chef or people were busy preparing the lunch, it seemed to tale forever, probably because we were anxious and hungry. It arrived on a cart just loaded with the actual ingredients and a variety of sauces used in the cooking. The presence of the bigger than life chef quickly calmed my impatience. Come to find out, our talented chef was from Indonesia. His name was MoMo. He went to work with all the flare you'd expect. He even made a volcano out of raw, soon to be cooked onion rings. Wow! Then, the rest was dramatic culinary artistry. Fried rice, veges, shrimp, chicken, and scallops all combined to make a delightful presentation. The taste was equal to the whole process. The thoughtful staff brought over take-home containers most of the way through the meal. Then the check came, and they honored my birthday coupon. The surprise there was the 18% tip added to the total bill as 2 meals, nearly $10. There is a sign declaring about the tip as you enter. This was a very good experience, but we probably will not return. The service and quality are in place and impressive. The upcharge for the tip was a bit much. I am one of the people who like to regulate the tip based on the food, service, and the cost of the meal, not an imposed figure. And I would have easily tipped at least 18%, I just don't like being told what to tip.

The food was great, the drinks were good ( a bit strong), I had the mango martini. There was great service, great prices, parking is good. I went during happy hour, and they had good choices! The ambiance was good, the crowd was light for it to have been happy hour however I enjoyed it. It's pretty inside as well. It's a good date night option as well!

Went with a group of 8 for dinner(you will not be seated unless the whole party is there). We went because the reviews battles with Kobe. It's cheaper and at the time closer to where we were. The sushi rolls were soo good I recommend the Birds nest and Baltimore roll they were nice to share with the group. I do prefer this places steak over the others it was still tender the next day. I don't like that they used spaghetti noodles. The portions are smaller compared to Kobe but I do love that they don't cramp everyone into one room. There's room to move around and view the restaurant and enjoy the time. I might come back just to try some more if I'm ever in the area

My family loves this hibachi place! The food is always well prepared and full of flavor. They also have great sushi! We love the Maryland Roll and they also have a great drink menu. The service can be a little slow on a busy nice but all of the employees are very nice and helpful! The chefs are also always very engaged and friendly. Additionally the restaurant has a very chill vibe!

Kabuto has not failed me YET!!! I went to treat myself for dinner and could not figure out where to go. I wanted something hot and delicious. Something sizzling. Something savory. Then Kabuto popped into my mind. The last time I came here was right before the Covid-19 pandemic hit hard (early March 2020). I sat at the bar and had the most delicious meal! Steak and shrimp hibachi combo. It came with soup, salad, fried rice and yummy noodles. The steak was seasoned to perfection and their shrimp are plump and sooo good! I got the exact same thing for dinner yesterday evening (August 8th, 2020). With our state continuously allowing and disallowing sit-in dining, I wasn't sure how everything would go. I made the drive to the restaurant. There weren't many cars in the parking lot, so I assumed that it wasn't a busy day & that I would have a quiet dinner at the bar. I was WRONG! Lol! The restaurant was carry-out only. They only allowed two customers in at a time. When I made my way inside, I was greeted by a huge blocked off wall at the entrance of the dining area. There were signs on the clear barriers that read "phone orders only". I walked back out to my car and made the call. The transaction was quick and friendly. I already knew exactly what I wanted- the steak (well done) and shrimp hibachi combo. Now, I had a not so awesome experience from another Japanese steak house on my birthday. The protein seriously was lacking and they did NOT include salad or soup! That meal was close to $40, whereas this meal was $25 and change. HUGE difference with WAY BETTER quality. When I got home, I set everything up and went to town. I didn't eat my soup, but everything else, I demolished. The steak and shrimp were delicious. The steak was medium well, which didn't bother me too much. I prefer the crisp of well done steak, but it was still really good. The shrimp were just as perfect as ever. The rice and noodles were well seasoned and the salad was fresh. Everything was so good, I honestly will probably come back again for dinner tonight. I'll just make sure to call ahead this time! 5 stars.

Unagi
Jude T.

Not a bad place, but the chicken teriyaki was just kinda ok. My unagi was pretty good, I'd say. The noise level was high, as to be expected, and their menu had a lot of photos of things they don't actually have on the menu any longer, but looked good. Service was ok. But the waiter kept walking by while we were trying to get his attention for a few minutes. Price was a bit higher than I'd have liked for the whole experience. There are definitely better, similar places out there.

Friendly service, food was good. We sat at a regular table not a hibachi table. The onion soup is excellent.

Ask the Community - Kabuto

Is it reservation only?

Nope! Safe to walk in! However, if you plan to eat there on a weekend evening, it can pretty busy. A reservation would be recommended, especially if wanting hibachi.

Do they do any birthday specials?

No.

How many people can one hibachi grill fit?

We were able to fit 10, with room to spare. I'd guess 15-20.

What time is happy hour?

Made my reservation for party of one at By the Docks When I arrived. I was greeted quickly (bless her) and explained I was a little late. While I was waiting for her to see me she received a call and made a comment about "who books a reservation 15 minutes ahead of time". (Well that's actually what I did.) and when I said that's actually what I did. The hostess looked at me and said "well you don't count" smiled and then she then sat me. My server, Leslie greeted me. I ordered my food (crab and lobster egg rolls), and a glass of the house white wine (a yummy Pinot Grigio) to pair perfectly with my seafood egg rolls. The interior was bright and open with bronze and wood accents The wine came out about five minutes later and then I proceeded to wait for roughly 30 minutes for the appetizer that was meant to be my entrée to come out. the appetizer came out hot and fresh, chock full of lump crab and lobster laying on a bed of the Asian slaw.. shoo mercy, everything tasted great, but by then my wine was empty. Parched lil bit. I opted for the strawberry cheesecake. (Shout out to Yia Yia's bakery, y'all know your desserts!) People, It was the size of my head and creamy and light and the tartness of the strawberries was on point. I mean it was so good, it'd make ya push your granny in the creek, good! When Leslie brought out my check she let me know they comped the wine for the delay on the egg rolls.. Well shucks... that, y'all, was great service recovery. Turned my first experience here from meh to well, bless em... Hot tasty food, (even a delay can happen on the best of nights), and a yummy dessert.. By the Docks.... We will be back!

The blackened salmon, despite its look, was nice and moist and deliciously seasoned. Underneath the salmon was the corn medley which was just ok - it didn't really add anything and I wish it had more corn. The deviled eggs with crab were yummy, the shrimp cocktail was just ok (I don't think you can get much flare with those), the crab dip *drool* scrumptious, and not pictured is the Mac n cheese which was cheesy and tuna and the Cadillac margarita - I love a good caddy and theirs made my top 5 list! Parking is easy, made a reservation for a Saturday evening, didn't feel overly packed - I'll say it again...we will be back.

When my food arrived, the wings were not all flats. I politely brought it to the server's attention, and she apologized, saying she would have four additional flats made and brought out on the side at no extra charge. The extra flats arrived, but when I received the check, there was an additional $5 charge for them. Since the original server had left for the day, I explained the situation to another server, who then brought over the manager. After I explained what had happened, the manager seemed skeptical at first, as if I was trying to get something for free. Eventually, she agreed to remove the $5 charge. To make matters worse, when I asked for a to-go box and a side of blue cheese because my original blue cheese had been thrown away, I was told it would cost an additional $0.75. At that point, I was frustrated that I was being charged for a replacement of something that had been discarded by the staff. I paid it, but the entire experience left a bad impression. The overall interaction felt like the restaurant was constantly looking for ways to add extra charges and nickel-and-dime customers. Customer service should focus on making things right when mistakes happen, not creating additional frustrations. Unfortunately, between the service issues and food quality, I won't be returning and would not recommend this restaurant to others.

I left most of the skin behind, but ate some of it because the portion was so small. I had to eat something. Please have the chef look up what fish and chips is supposed to look like.
