Why the hell do Southern Indian restaurant serving Dosa include Peanut chutney and not the Coconut chutney. I have had Dosa last 50 years and this is one the few that serve peanut ( yucks chutney). Their potato masala is just like what my father used to make us as children, and what he learnt to make when he lived in India as a boy. I was immediately grossed out when I walked in. It's filthy. I was the only one there at 12:00 when there should have been a lunch rush. So I felt bad and ordered something anyway. Customer service wasn't horrible but wasn't great either. The cashier cooked my food and I never saw him wash his hands. **Long post** Apple and papaya fruits tasted better than buffet items with the exception of mutton curry, dosa, and coffee. Some readers, after reading the review may think this was just a one-time issue and may still want to give it a try. We thought the same after reading previous reviews, decided to go, and ended up regretting it. Of course, the choice is yours. But based on the experience, the buffet felt deliberately structured in a way that makes customers wait, lose appetite, and eventually consume less. Good * Mutton curry - Good flavor and nicely cooked. * Keema dosa - The keema tasted good, though they could add a little more on the dosa. * Coffee - Good. Just Okay * Vada - There is a lot of room for improvement. * Sambar - It was okay initially, but later refills felt more like tamarind water with a little dal. Not Recommended * Idly - I honestly don't know what to call them. The first batch was hard, and the rava used did not taste good at all. Later refills were undercooked and felt like semi-cooked rava. * Poori - Hard to describe; it was somewhere between a poori and a parotta. Very small, Thick, bland, and without flavor. * Mysore bonda - It was basically a maida ball. * Pongal - I had two spoons and stopped. I'm not sure what rice they used. It was thick and felt more like boiled-rice pongal than proper pongal. There were a few cashews in it, and getting one felt like winning a jackpot. * Kesari and fruit custard - Average. Nothing particularly to say. Missing / Misleading * Chitti garelu - I did not find what I would actually call chitti garelu. The small vadas that were served did not resemble them in taste or texture. Service It could be much better. Very disappointing breakfast buffet experience at Chopathi in Ashburn. The buffet area was cramped, items were kept in very small containers, and refills were too slow for the crowd. We spent more time waiting in line and making repeated trips to the buffet than actually eating. Several items were unavailable when we went up, and some dishes like the idly, bonda, and poori were underwhelming. The keema dosa was good, but even our second dosa order took so long that we gave up waiting. What made the experience worse was the management response when we raised a genuine concern about delayed refills--they treated it as if we were asking for special treatment. I'm a HUGE fan of Indian Cuisine and this place did not disappoint. 10 out of 10! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! This location was next to a Chipotle (what my kids wanted) and I decided to give it a try. Everyone inside was super nice and the service was top tier. The only thing I didn't like was I couldn't get a paper receipt but that's no biggie! The restaurant was super clean and the air was on blast. I'm always cold so I decided to sit outside where they had ample seating. I ordered the butter chicken and garlic naan bread!! When I tell yall this was some of the BEST butter chicken and Garlic Naan that I've had. Food was made to order and tasted fresh. Today I had the pleasure of being served at Chopathi. I must say from the service to the food, five stars is not enough recognition. I had the curry chicken(butter chicken), rice and garlic naan and it was amazing. The price for the food is a great value. The place is big and cozy. I don't understand why the lines aren't wrapped around the building but they need to be. I strongly recommend that if you are into Indian cuisine and in the Ashburn areas you give his place a try. Went there for lunch (next to the excellent Parrandos). No inside seating or wait staff so I had to order at counter. Initially a very confusing experience with clear slant to veggie food. Not a single "popular" mainstay dish. No tikka masala, vindaloo, korma etc. clue 1. No visible customers clue 2. After a very confusing explanation that was like pick a protein and sauce type thing, the manager actually asked what I wanted so I got chicken curry medium and hot. One came with rice which was decent. The other dish came with chopathi which is a thin crepe. Had veggie samosa which was ok but nothing special. The chicken curry was bizarre. The sauce was of a granular texture and pretty much devoid of any real flavor. Just weird slurry made with no interest. The real kicker was the chicken which was probably boiled and then hacked up, meaning It had meat with bits of bone and bits of skin. Just thinking of it makes me nauseous. It was probably the way they do it back home but I have never had curry like this before and that is not a compliment. Just the task of trying to fish through the granular sauce with my plastic fork to prise the dark meat off the bones and skin was something I will never endure again. You have been warned. read more

Here's the kicker, I told them I want masala chai at 11:14. 12:00 I ask for masala chai, I was told they're making it. 12:30 I asked for the masala chai again, I was told it's going to take another 30 - 40 mins. 12:35 I was told they don't have milk and won't be making any more until the evening. Mind you, I watched them unload a car trunk full of milk. Regardless, overall I waiting over an hour to finally be told they will not be making a part of my order. I took the items and when I got home no rice. I called and they looked at the receipt and told me that rice was separate. I have never been to an Indian restaurant where they make you order a side of rice. Also I didn't know so they should have asked. This is an update to the previous review. The food is still great especially biryanis and wraps but I just wish they keep this place cleaner. The tables are always dirty. You have to clean them by yourself. Don't even get me started on restrooms! OMG! So so bad and stinking! Cleanliness should be worked upon! Me and my husband are regulars here and love their food but we don't like the mess in there. Few of the servers are not so polite and helpful. One of them actually rush us to get out when they were near closing time. Not cool! First time being here and the food was surprisingly very good for a fast food place. I ordered a chicken dosa (never had one before in my life). Initially I was a little doubtful if I made a right choice. They ask you what kind of sauce you want for your chicken and I got chetinaad (medium spicy). IT was PERFECT! Also ordered samosa chaat, but not too happy with it because I didn't really see any samosa, it was all Chana and the other stuff with all the sauces. Not great for dates or family get-togethers! The restaurant is full of cheap non-recyclable plastic. Attached one of the pictures with the amount of non-recyclable plastic trash we made for just 3 people. Wish I could give 0 stars for their environmental impact. Approached one of the employees behind the counter to check with them on their stance on these polluting products and suggested if they can use reusable items or compostable items which doesnt cost them any more than what they pay for these cheap stuff!! "No." In addition to my wrap, I'd also ordered Paneer and when I got in the car, I realized they didn't include any rice. There are other reviews written about the lack of English on the menu. I really have no problem with that, unless of course I get served something that's potentially dangerous. We ordered the onion roti which came with two dipping sauces. The dipping sauces are not described anywhere on the menu in any language nor are they introduced when served. One of the dipping sauces was a peanut sauce. My daughter is allergic to peanuts. She had an immediate reaction. Dear Restaurant owner - If you don't want to put English on your sign that's OK. But you better make sure that people understand what they're being served especially when they didn't order it, ie- dipping sauces. The reaction from the staff was borderline "I could care less". The bowl they offer is far from delicious. The paneer has no flavor, the chetinad sauce was just brown water.
